Chapter 427 Something Stolen

Before heading into St. Thomas, Jax reached into Scarlett's glove compartment and grabbed some of the SpongeBob bandages from a box. He thought Happy needed a little SpongeBob on the face.
When he was drunk, Happy would admit that he loved cartoons especially SpongeBob because they all lived in Bikini Bottom and he thought that would be a pretty great place to live. In his non-violent downtime when he wasn't chasing pussy, he loved a big bowl of cereal and SpongeBob cartoons.
Jax remembered how he'd felt when the little kid had pointed at him and said "SpongeBob onna face". He'd checked himself in the mirror and realized what Scarlett had done to him. He chuckled thinking back to the expression on her face when she realized she'd been caught. She was a lot of fun.
They were getting closer, but there still seemed to be something holding her back from getting closer. He hadn't pushed her or wanted to ask her about it yet. This was a new version of Jax Teller. He loved her and he would be patient. And he enjoyed just spending time with her. The more time he spent with her, the more time he wanted to spend with her.
He wondered what Happy's reaction would be when he saw the SpongeBob bandages on his face. You could never tell with Happy.
Jax knew that Happy had this reckless edge to him. While he was brave, sometimes he just didn't use his brain. If Clay said they should cut Esai's head off in the middle of Charming High's Homecoming Parade, Happy would be up for it. That's why he'd nearly ended up face planting into a hay truck. Sometimes he just didn't think his actions through.
This thing with Esai had dragged on too long. Jax thought by now someone would have killed him for the bounty, but he'd escaped again. It was dangerous and they needed to hunt down and kill that bastard before anyone else got hurt or killed.
He saw Juice park his bike and waited to walk into the hospital with him. By that time, Opie had pulled up and they waited for him.
"I've already notified everyone as soon as Kozik contacted me," Juice said. He was in charge of the MC's communications and took his job seriously. "Piney's at the cabin, Bobby's in Laughlin and Chibs and Sack are on their way in.
"Good," Jax said.
"He's damned lucky Kozik was with him or he would have gotten back on his bike and tried to go after Esai again," Opie said.
The men chuckled. Opie spoke the truth. Happy wouldn't have gotten medical treatment if he'd been alone. He hated hospitals and doctors. When he was a kid, his mother would tie his hands behind his back when she took him to the doctor. By the time he was six, he could free his hands. His father had to take him to the doctor after that.
They headed for the ER waiting room together. Kozik and Clay were already there.
"Good job getting Happy to the hospital," Jax said.
Kozik shook his head.
"It was tough. I was seconds from knocking him out. He wouldn't climb on the gurney. Kept insisting he wanted to ride with the driver. They strapped him down and tried to put an IV in him." Kozik imitated Happy fighting the paramedics.
The men laughed.
"I talked to the doctor and they are running tests. They didn't want to sedate him because they wanted to assess him for a concussion but he was telling them that he was OK and he wanted to leave. Then he started saying crazy shit about UFOs and fighting Bigfoot once on a camping trip. He was just being Happy but they thought he had a concussion and he was fighting them so much, they had to knock him out with drugs so they could do the tests and figure out how bad he's hurt."
"People with head injuries fight like that," Opie said.
"Or he was just being Happy," Clay said. "Kind of hard to tell."
Sack walked in then and Kozik briefly updated him on Happy's condition.
"We ought to go check out that chair factory. We might pick up something on where that cock sucker's hiding," Jax said.
"Get on it while the trail's hot," Opie said.
"Go," Clay said. "Kozik and I'll wait here."
Jax and Opie began walking away.
"Prospect, you're with us," Jax said.
"You can show us how to kick in doors Iraq style," Opie added.
Sack hurried after the men. He was eager to prove himself.
