Little Toy Bikers and a Woman on the Run
"
Chapter 429 SpongeBob On A Happy Face
"
By the time they returned to the ER waiting room, Chibs had joined Clay and Kozik in the back corner of the ER. The medical staff had done a good job clearing out the ER leaving only a family and a woman with a toddler waiting.
"Let's talk a minute in the chapel," Jax suggested. "At this hour, it should be empty."
The guys walked into the chapel and just as Jax predicted, the chapel was deserted.
"So what happened?" Clay asked.
"Sack kicked the door and I thought he was going to crap his pants," Jax said.
"There was some flash and some bang," Opie explained.
"From now on, if a door needs kicking, the Prospect's going to be doing it until he gets it right," Jax said.
Jax was praising Sack MC-style. Sack puffed out his chest clearly pleased by Jax's words.
Juice's phone buzzed. He looked at his phone quickly checking his email and text messages.
"Still no Tig," Juice said.
"You think Salazar could have something to do with Tig being MIA?" Chibs asked.
"If we don't hear from him soon, we're going to have to look for him," Clay said.
"We didn't go inside the chair factory," Jax said. "Esai may have left some more presents. Some that might do more than flash and bang."
"I'll call Unser in the morning," Clay said. "He can tip the county about the possibility of bombs being there. Don't want anyone getting blown."
"Once more, SAMCRO serves humanity," Opie said.
"Sometimes in secret and special ways," Jax added drily.
The guys chuckled.
"We've got to deal with the Esai/Salazar problem before there are more of us in the hospital or dead," Jax said.
"Meeting Monday afternoon," Clay said. "We will come up with a plan."
The guys returned to the ER waiting room. A short time later, a portly red headed man in blue scrubs introduced himself as Dr. Nelson, the doctor treating Happy.
"Your friend has been lucky. He's got a few cracked ribs, contusions and scrapes. No broken bones. There's a mild concussion and some minor swelling in the brain that we need to monitor. It will probably resolve itself with medication, but we are keeping him tonight and possibly tomorrow night. No motorcycle riding for six weeks."
"I suspect he won't follow instructions," the doctor continued pausing briefly while the guys laughed. "You need to help him with that and see that he follows directions. You can visit him in small groups for a few minutes. He needs sleep."
"Thanks doc," Clay said.
"It's going to be hell watching over him," Kozik said after the doctor left them.
He and Happy shared a small two bedroom house a few minutes from the clubhouse.
"We should do it Scarlett style," Jax suggested. "Drug his food so he sleeps."
The men nodded. Knocking Happy out with drugs was about the only way to make sure he didn't do something stupid. They could find crow-eaters to help watch over Happy, but they wouldn't be able to control him.
"Or we could tie him to the bed," Chibs suggested.
"That would work too," Kozik said. "It's going to be hell whether we drug him, tie him up or both."
"Good thing we have a prospect, eh?" Chibs said.
Juice's phone buzzed again. He checked it.
"It's Tig. He's OK," Juice said. "He's a couple of hours away."
"Tell him he can visit Happy tomorrow," Clay said.
Juice sent a reply to Tig.
Clay and Chibs were the first to visit Happy. They didn't stay much more than five minutes before leaving.
Jax, Opie, Kozik and Juice were clustered together talking. Sack looked on nervously from a distance.
Prospect," Jax said, "come here."
Jax reached inside his cut and pulled out the SpongeBob bandages.
"Your mission . . .," Jax began.
"That you have no choice but to accept," Opie added.
"Is to get these on Happy's face," Jax said.
"If you're caught, you will be disavowed," Opie said.
"Disemboweled?" Juice asked.
"Just disavowing should be good enough," Jax said. "He can keep his guts."
"How you do it is up to you. You can put them on Happy's face or convince one of the nurses to do it for you. Just get them on his face and don't let him catch you," Kozik said.
"You definitely don't want him to catch you," Juice warned.
"Who knows what he'd do," Opie said.
"Get it done. We're not waiting around all night," Jax said.
Sack took the bandages and headed down the hall towards the nurses' station. Jax, Opie, Kozik and Juice watched as Sack talked to two nurses. Jax could tell by the way the women were smiling that Sack had picked the nurse option for completing his assignment.
They watched as a thirtyish nurse with dark blonde hair prepared a tray, took the SpongeBob band aids from Sack and headed down the hall to Happy's room.
"Let's go," Jax said. It wasn't good enough for Jax to have SpongeBob on Happy's face, he wanted to see it being done.
Sack was hovering around the door of Happy's room when the guys walked past him into Happy's room.
"How are you doing?" Jax asked.
"Great," Happy said enthusiastically.
The sedatives had worn off so he was only feeling the painkillers. Happy got higher than the average person from opioids.
"Short visit, guys," the nurse said. "I'm going to give him some sleeping medication in a few minutes."
Happy's arms were still restrained to keep him from ripping out his IV.
"I was riding fast when this hay truck suddenly appeared. All I could do was lay the bike down and slide. So much fun."
"Good way to get yourself killed," the nurse said tartly.
"Uh-huh," Happy said. "Fun."
The nurse shook her head. Sack had come into the room and was standing in the doorway.
"There you go," the nurse said to Happy. "I'll be back with sleeping medication. You have until then to visit quietly."
"You should come by our clubhouse Friday night," Kozik said smiling at her.
"I just might do that," she replied smiling back at him.
Kozik put his hand over his heart dramatically.
"I sure hope so."
The nurse's smile got wider as she passed Kozik on her way out the door.
Happy had two SpongeBob band aids near each eye, one on his forehead and one of his left cheek.
Jax and the guys tried not to laugh at Happy in all his SpongeBob's glory.
"I think I'm ready to leave," Happy said. "Kozik, can you unstrap me so I can go?"
Jax had a new appreciation for the way Scarlett had taken care of him. She hadn't given him the chance to insist he was OK. She'd just drugged him without asking.
"If you stay," Jax said, "there are hot nurses who will give you a sponge bath in the morning. Think how much fun that will be."
"Remember that one porn movie Ima did where she was a nurse and she wore that latex nurse's uniform and gave a guy that sponge bath," Kozik said.
Happy nodded his head, his eyes shining with excitement.
"She did things with her tongue," Happy remembered, "and it was pierced."
Jax thought it was a little like getting a kid all pumped up about Christmas only to reveal the next morning that there was no Santa, no presents and someone had stolen the Christmas tree. Well as long as they kept Happy strapped down, it should be OK.
"Pictures," Jax said taking out his cell phone.
"Great idea," Opie said.
"Sack take pictures of us with Happy," Jax said handing his phone to Sack.
The guys bent down and posed with Happy for a dozen or so pictures. Happy smiled broadly in each one obviously having a great time. Sack returned Jax's phone to him. Jax quickly sent pictures of Happy to all the guys' phones.
The nurse returned with a glass of water and a little paper cup with pills in it.
"Time for you to leave. He's going to be under heavy sedation to help his body heal."
"If you take the straps off, he'll pull his IV out," Kozik warned.
"Yeah, we discovered that when he was transferred from the ambulance," the nurse replied.
"He really does behave best when he's knocked out," Kozik added.
The guys left Happy's room. Kozik lingered outside the door waiting for the nurse to finish with Happy so he could talk to her.
Jax knew this was the lull before the storm because come Monday, they were going to be hunting hard and without stop until they found and killed Esai and Salazar.
