Tara returned to her motel room barely making it to the bathroom before throwing up. Talking to the sheriff's investigators had been harder than she'd ever imagined. Damn Hale for bringing them in to do the investigation. They had done the good cop/bad cop routine on her. She thought that only happened on TV or in the movies.

She brushed her teeth to get rid of the strong vomit/acid taste in her mouth. She splashed cold water on her face. For a moment she studied her face in the mirror. Her face was pale and the stress had etched frown lines between her eyes. She'd aged five years in just a couple of days.

She stripped off her clothes and took a shower trying to get rid of the memory of that interview. It hadn't gone that bad. They didn't break her and she didn't blurt out that she'd waited a couple of minutes between the shots. The truth was she'd killed in cold blood but as Scarlett put it, it was preemptive self defense. That was also the truth. It was kill or be killed because sooner or later, Kohn would have come for her again only he wouldn't let his guard down the next time and he would kill her. She had nothing to feel guilty about.

The good cop detective listened as she recounted how she'd been in the bedroom when he'd suddenly appeared. The bad cop asked her over and over again how much time passed between shots. She gave him the same answer every time. She knew enough from watching cop shows to know that changing your story was the kiss of death.

In the end, she thought she'd sold her story and they believed her. Even if they didn't, they would never be able to prove anything just as long as Scarlett stuck to her story.

She pulled on an ankle length crimson T-shirt dress. Later, she'd call and get Chinese food delivered. She didn't feel like going out again.

She picked up her phone and discovered that Scarlett had left her a text message. Scarlett suggested that she come by her store tomorrow afternoon and they could go by her house and discuss redecorating. Tara quickly texted her back suggesting a time. Scarlett replied immediately agreeing to the time.

Tara had one worry that was literally haunting her. What if Kohn's ghost was in her house waiting to hurt her?
