Marinette thought she was dreaming as her phone rang on Christmas morning, and she buried deeper under the covers. She was thinking of roasting turkey, a roaring fire, opening presents under the tree,
that was until her husband, Adrien handed her the phone that read "Work".
Marinette listened for a minute, then pushed end call, groaning and sinking back under the covers. "I'm guessing that wasn't the pet store calling you that your getting a hamster?" Adrien teased. Marinette sighed, tears pricking her eyes. "Someone called in with the flu, and they need me to sew on buttons. On Christmas!"
Adrien watching as she begin to get ready. "I'll be fine, and we can do something this evening." Marinette whirled around. "Love, I'm not upset for me, but for you." Adrien looked puzzled. "I don't understand." "When I was fourteen, I promised myself you'd have a good Christmas and all the ones here after. And now I can't cook you a nice dinner and…." Oh. She was crying.
Adrien got up, padding over to her in his slippers. "Princess?" he said, softly. She batted his hand away. "Don't," she cried. "Cat Noir deserves so much more then I could ever give him." "Marinette." He lent down, laying a warm hand on her knee. "You give Adrien and Cat Noir your love everyday, with smiles, cuddles and kisses. I know without a shadow of a doubt that you love me, even if it means the unexpected happens at the worse times, and believe me, I'm used to the unexpected."
Marinette sniffled, wiping her eyes, then burying her face in his shoulder. "Did anyone tell you your the best husband in the world?" Adrien chuckled, stroking her hair. "Yes, love. And who knows? Maybe I'll surprise you."
To Marinette's surprise and relief, the day went fast, and she hummed a Christmas song as she hurried up to their apartment. "Adrien? Plagg? Tikki?"
Why was the apartment silent? And why were the lights off?
Just then, the lights flicked on, and Hawaiian music belted out of the speaker, and Marinette doubled over in laughter as Adrien danced into the living, doing the luau.
"You've always wanted to live on a tropical island, so here we are. Melekalikima, My Lady."
"Huh?" "It means, Merry Christmas, my love. See, I told you we'd surprise you!"
Marinette felt the tears gathering in her eyes once again, but this time they were happy ones as she rushed into Adrien's arms with joy.
