After defeating Kanizaku's shadow, Ren, Haru, and Makoto agreed to a secret trip to Mementos to free Haru once and for all from her abusive fiancé.
As they left Mementos, "Thank you both so very much," Haru exclaimed. Ren, Makoto, and Haru parted ways. "Hey Mako-chan, do you have a moment?" Haru asked. "Of course, what's going on, Haru?" Makoto immediately asked. "Do you need help with your studies or something? What subject are you struggling in? Science, social studies, math?" As Makoto named a few off the top of her head.
"It's none of those subjects; actually, it's this weird feeling that hasn't gone away since first meeting Ren-kun," Haru responded. "I've spoken to Mona-chan about it and..."
"You're in love, aren't you?" Makoto asked her friend. "HUH!" she exclaimed right back. "You don't need to hide it. I know. I've hung out with Ann after school during our free time, and she's taken me to see a few rom-coms. She goes through tissues faster than a fish goes through water."
Haru didn't know how to respond to her friend. They just finished changing her soon-to-be ex-fiancé's heart. Since his shadow agreed to call off the marriage with her father. "Yes, I'm in love with Ren-kun, Mako-chan. Also, Father booked Destinyland for a company announcement. But the deposit is quite hard to get back."
Inspiration struck Makoto. "Try asking him to hang out with you during our trip there," she began, as Haru looked at her in confusion. "It's a long shot, but it could be your first official date with him. If you don't make a move on him or ask him out at least, you'll come to regret it." Makoto concluded.
"Mona-chan told me the same thing, but she said first we need to change father's heart before I make a move on Ren-kun." Haru responded. As the girls continue to talk over tea, they discuss how smart he is, getting closer to each other. "A teacher! I think he would make a wonderful teacher." Haru said while making plans to celebrate at Destinyland once Haru's father is able to hold a press conference.
Several days later, the day of the celebration arrives.
Everyone gathered around to celebrate another mission's success. "Come on, Ryuji, put the puppy dog ears on! You look cute in them," Futaba exclaimed, while Ryuji was trying his hardest to fight her off. "C'mon, man, be the voice of reason here." Ren decided not to get involved between his best friend and his sister.
He also noticed that Haru was stealing glances at him. "Hey, you've got a crush, don't you?" Ann then asked. "How did you know, Ann-Chan?" Ren asked as he went to grab some food while wearing the cat ears hat that Haru got him. "Ann sees and knows all, Haru," Makoto said. He came back and took a seat next to Haru, getting to know his date a bit more. As she went to grab his hand, she stopped because of the press conference. "Oh, it's about to start," Haru said.
"Thank you for taking the time for this press conference," a man said. He began addressing the future of Okurama Foods and the recent scandals surrounding it. As he continued to spark change and reveal the name of his boss, his eyes rolled into the back of his head. Black ooze came out, and he collapsed.
Gasp! "F-Father!" Haru cried out with all her friends at Destinyland. She was desperately trying to call home, but she didn't get an answer.
"Enjoy the rest of the night at Destinyland," she said as she continued to run home.
"What the! What happened? We did everything right!" Morgana began. Ren watched his date leave. He immediately took his leave as well, "Where are you going?" But Ren chose not to answer, beginning to take full responsibility for her father's mental breakdown.
Later in the night:
Morgana came up to the attic to find him. "Why did you run off like that? Everyone is worried about you." As Ren saw his phone blown up from all his friends worrying about him. [Ryuji: Dude, why did you run off like that?[Ann: Hey, please talk to us! We're your friends.]
[Makoto: What's gotten into you?]
[Yuskue: My friend, is something troubling you? Speak up.]
[Futaba: You're scaring us, besides you're supposed to be my key item!]
He responded in a separate group chat, explaining that he's alright and taking full blame and responsibility for the failed mission.
"I can't face Haru again. I failed her. It's my fault, Morgana. Because of me, her father suffered a mental shutdown." Ren began, but Morgana immediately interrupted him. "You were warned from the moment we decided to go after Kamashida that it was possible he could suffer a mental shutdown," Morgana said. "But I'm going to let you in on a secret. I caught a glimpse of the black-masked intruder who killed her father's shadow. His face looked a lot like Akechi's."
He was processing the information he had just learned. "I knew he'd been in the Metaverse before. Especially when it comes to our conversation about pancakes." Ren realized. He also decided to send a message to Haru.
[Ren: If you need someone to talk to, give me a call. You have my condolences.]
As Ren went to bed for the night, full of regret. "Please don't blame yourself. What happened wasn't your fault." Morgana concluded as he curled up and went to sleep.
Meanwhile, "Haru!" Makoto cried out. "Come on in, Mako-chan," Haru said, still red from crying.
