Hi, everyone! Welcome to Book II of the Mizuki series. I hope you all enjoy this story as much as I did while writing it. Please feel free to review, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Disclaimer: I don't own My Hero Academia or any of its characters. Mizuki, however, is my own creation.
Let's start with the story, shall we?*
Chapter 6
The preparations for the exam began for all students. The finals were approaching and every opportunity was either used to study the mind or train the body. The students of class 1A were all preparing in their own way.
A specific pair of twins were both hitting the books, giving it their all as they studied their minds together. However, one twin was also devoting his time towards tutoring while the other twin devoted her time towards training.
They each had a tight schedule, yet both making time for each other with their normal early morning jog sessions. Katsuki was driven by his need to surpass everyone who dared to near him and Mizuki was by his side, training to keep that position.
A gentle knock reached the male teenager's ears, his counterpart peeking in soon after. Mizuki smiled warmly as she held a mug filled with coffee in each hand. He turned to look at her as she stepped inside the room.
"I thought that you'll need some fuel to keep the engine running. I made it just like you like it." She handed the mug over to him, glancing at his neatly laid out desk. "How's the studying going? Are you destroying those calculations?" She asked and he scoffed.
"Of course, I am, idiot. Like hell I'll let you beat me again in ranking. You only got lucky in midterms. This time it won't be the same," he told her, Mizuki humming softly as she took a sip of her coffee and enjoyed the warmth that washed over her.
"Good luck with that," she said in a mischievous tone and chuckled when she received a glare from her brother. "I hope you're giving enough effort to Red as well." Katsuki's brows twitched as he took a sip of his coffee.
"That's easy! I can do both without even breaking a sweat," Katsuki replied and Mizuki smirked. She didn't expect less from the male. Then again, she also knew him better than he thought she did but she wasn't going to tell him that.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. I only came in to check up on you to make sure you don't push yourself too hard," Mizuki told the male and then ruffled his hair, earning a growl from him. He slapped away her hand and glared.
"I don't want to hear that from you!" He countered and Mizuki chuckled in reply. It was true. She was usually one to take it one step further. They both had that annoying trait inside of them. They would break themselves down and rebuild to get where they wanted to be.
Mizuki chuckled and went to exit the room, winking at her brother. "Love you too, Explodo-kill. Don't be late to go and play tutor," she said with a wave. She heard an inaudible grumble coming from his room as she closed the door and shook her head.
She stayed in contact with the redhead male as they studied, making sure that her brother wasn't too hard on him. Though, it would seem that Eijiro was honestly giving his all despite her brother's peculiar methods.
Mizuki, on the other hand, had training of her own to attend to. It was made a secret by both her and Izuku, Shoto the last person who would say anything. After all, he also knew the subject was taboo when it came to her brother.
She let out a sigh, stepping inside her room and closing the door behind her. She was well aware of her brother's brimming rage and could only hope that nothing was going to happen during the practical exam to have him snap.
She threw her shirt off, changing into a pair of comfortable exercise clothing. She wondered when he was going to start to realize that he was going about wrong when it came to Izuku. When was he going to realize the green haired male didn't look down on him?
She thought about their relationship a lot these days as she trained with Izuku. She was worried for both of them and she was put in an uncomfortable position. They both meant a lot to her and she hated it that they didn't get along. Especially since Katsuki never gave Izuku a chance to speak.
She ran a hand through her hair, a breath escaping her lips once again. She glanced at herself in her mirror and trailed her fingers further through the spikes. She grabbed a hairband and put her hair up in a small ponytail. She blinked through her contact lenses and then smirked, hands resting on her hips.
She glanced at the time on her phone, noting that she was still early for the training session. She could at least get in a while of running before she met Izuku at the beach. Then she would already be warmed up as well.
"Mom! Dad! I'm heading out for my jog! I'll see you later!" Mizuki called out as she ran down stairs, heading straight towards the front door. Katsuki had blinked as he stepped outside of his room, his sister's blur passing his crimson eyes quite fast.
He clicked his tongue and ruffled his own hair as he walked off towards the bathroom. The only time they trained together was during their morning jogging. They both came to an unspoken understanding that it would be best to train separately.
She had been running off to training with a smirk of excitement plastered on her lips and it made Katsuki briefly wonder what exactly she was up to. Then again, this was Mizuki. She was probably excited to see the sunset.
"What a dork."
Mizuki breathed heavy as she continued a fast pace, her legs burning with each leap she took and her muscles straining against the movement. Sweat glistened on her skin, fists moving by her sides and her heartrate reaching a steady rate.
She needed to make sure to keep her stamina up and to keep her legs strong. She fought mostly with her lower limbs and needed to ensure that they grew stronger to use her Flash Step. She wouldn't have enough time to develop her temperature control any further but at least she could keep her endurance.
She recalled Izuku's words after he informed her that they would face off against the same robots of the entrance exams and she couldn't help but be sceptical. She thought of how easily Shoto blew past them and the same with them. Would they really make it that easy?
This was U.A. It could be that they were going to upgrade the robots and incorporate the support course. She paled. If they incorporated Mei, they were in for a real amount of trouble with her crazy ideas.
Speaking of which, she hadn't been able to spend much time alongside the pink haired female. The last time they conversed was when she returned the leg braces, only to also receive a scolding from Power Loader. He wasn't impressed that we used unauthorized equipment despite being impressed at the design.
He was a peculiar hero.
"Mi-chan!" Izuku's voice reached her ears, the scruffy haired boy coming in front behind as he too jogged. Mizuki smirked. Speaking of a peculiar hero. She watched as he grinned, matching her pace after a few fast runs.
"Good to see that you're already warming up, Izu-kun. Now I can start kicking your ass sooner," Mizuki said, eyes gleaming brightly with mischief. The green haired boy sweat dropped, a light laugh escaping his lips.
"You're really cruel when you want to be, Mi-chan." Izuku then smiled, feeling his heartbeat heightening slightly at the fast pace. "I appreciate it. I need to get stronger to meet everyone's expectations," he said, Mizuki humming in reply.
It was true. Izuku needed to work much harder than anyone else in her class when it came to catching up and staying at the top. He received his Quirk late and still needed to find a way to fight optimal using it.
"…Izuku deserved it more than anyone else out there…you better made sure that you deserve him…"
Mizuki still felt the same as the day she confronted Toshinori and she doubted it would change, even if she learned the full truth. She hadn't seen him since that encounter and the contact she had with All Might was kept to a minimal as well. Izuku didn't talk about either of them either. It was better that way.
"Nah, Izu-kun, how about a little race?" Mizuki spoke up, big green eyes glancing next to him. "The first one reaching the wooden bridge on the water, wins." Izuku glanced towards the spot she pointed at and then paled slightly.
"What are the conditions?"
He felt a shiver run down his spine at the dark smirk he received and swallowed thickly. "The one who loses, gets a sucker punch from the winner," Mizuki replied and he sweat dropped. He figured it would be something like that.
"Are you ready?" Mizuki asked and his eyes widened. She wanted to do it already?! He took note of the sudden rise in temperature next to him and gasped. She was going to use her ultimate move in public.
"W-wait! M-Mi-chan!"
"GO!" Mizuki exclaimed, exploding from her spot, Izuku nearly blew away from the shockwave she caused. He caught sight of her and then shook his head, activating his own Quirk and running after the crazy girl.
Her flash step enabled her to bounce off in the air, minimalizing damage by not touching anything at the heightened heat. He was still amazed every time she used the technique, the speed and nostalgia giving him excitement.
Mi-chan is as fast as always, but I've also gotten faster! Izuku thought, and moved fluidly. Green sparks rippled off his body as he approached the wooden bridge, catching up with her. Mizuki caught sight of this and then smirked.
She brought her hands behind her back, Izuku's eyes widening. She used a high intensity explosion on her feet accompanied with normal explosions from her hands and blew past him. He yelped at the sand that washed over him, bringing his arms up in front of his face.
She can use her explosions simultaneously? Isn't that a bit too much? He thought, coughing as he dusted himself off from the sand that sank onto his clothing and skin. He saw Mizuki stand on the wooden platform, steam emerging from her feet and her breathing heavy.
She smirked and made fists in victory. "I won!" She called with a laugh and he blinked. He caught sight of the state of her shoes and turned blue. She melted right through the running shoes she had been wearing.
"Um, Mi-chan…"
Mizuki glanced down at her fete where Izuku was pointing and then chuckled. "Yeah, these are an old pair that I've wanted to get rid of for a while now," she kicked off the melted material and sighed happily at the freedom of her feet.
"I didn't know you could use your normal explosions alongside your flash step. I thought you needed absolute concentration not to overheat your body," Izuku said, catching his breath and Mizuki wasn't far behind.
"I do. It was a gamble. I honestly thought I was going to either blow myself up or overheat!" She said, laughing and Izuku blinked. She knew the consequences and still tried something that reckless? Once again, she amazed him.
"Alright, Izu-kun! Pucker up!" Mizuki cracked her knuckles and he swallowed thickly. She walked towards him and he tensed his entire body, not knowing where she was going to hit him. He clenched his eyes shut as he waited for the devastating hit.
It never came.
He hesitantly opened one of his eyes, peeking to see what was going to happen. He then received a solid punch in his gut, her aim for his solar plexus as good as ever. He coughed, his brace better than he expected it to be.
"Right, what do you want to train today? We did movement training yesterday, maybe we should focus on type of possible attacks today," Mizuki continued, not fazed by the boy who gently hold his stomach.
"Type of attacks?" Izuku looked down at his one hand palm. "My main attacks are in my fists. I tried using my legs once but it was only for a distraction. I still have a long way to go," he said with a frown and Mizuki chuckled.
"Don't we both?" He gave her a blank look. "My main attacks are kicks since I don't have much power with my fists as I would like to have. I have to focus on vulnerable spots on my opponent to bring forth the effect I want," Mizuki said and Izuku cupped his chin.
"A strong attack would be more effective if the target was correct. Then the type of attacks we need to focus on is attacks with intended targets?" He said and Mizuki grunted. Izuku then smirked and clenched his fists as he stepped into a stance.
"I'll be in your care then, Mi-chan!"
Mizuki balled her own fists, stepping into a comfortable stance. "Same here, Izu-kun!" She didn't waste any time with attacking him full out, fist drawn back. She attacked his face, the male dodging as he moved to the side and brought his own fist up.
Mizuki gave him a solid hit on his bicep by using the side of her hand and moved to the side, punching him in his short ribs. He gasped in pain, his wrist soon flicked, spun upwards and before he knew it, he was staring at the sky.
"Again."
She gave him a smug look as he lay on the ground. She held out her hand towards him and he gave her a grateful smile. As soon as he put his hand in hers, she pressed into a pressure point. He yelped as she pulled him closer and gave him a solid headbutt.
"You're too gullible, Izu-kun. Never trust your opponent to help you, idiot," Mizuki said, watching as the male held his head where she hit him. Her training sessions were merciless, but he was indebted to her ways. He would definitely get stronger this way…and hopefully be able to beat her one day.
The truth was, he would always aim to be stronger than Katsuki and to conquer the image of the male inside him. Yet, he wanted to win against Mizuki as well. She who had always been by his side in support. He wanted to show her that all her support had paid off to get him to where he always wanted to be.
"Get up, Lazy-ass!"
"Yes!"
Meanwhile…
A brown-haired female stood by the counter of the café as she waited for the drinks that her costumers ordered. She smiled after receiving the two drinks and picked up the tray before walking over towards the costumers.
"Hah? How could you possibly get this one wrong, idiot?! Do you really have shit for brains?!" Katsuki yelled at the redhead that sat opposite from him. He hit him repeatedly on his head with a rolled-up paper, pointing at the notebook.
The waitress paled at the male's demeanour and feared to move closer towards the angry ash blonde teenager. The redhead seemed to be unfazed by the blows and the sharp tongue. He frowned deeply, staring at what he wrote in a mixture of frustration and confusion.
"Um…" The girl nearly screeched as she jumped when Katsuki glared at her. "S-Sorry f-for disturbing y-you! H-Here are your drinks! Sorry!" The waitress put down their drinks, bowed and then rushed off.
Katsuki scoffed and pulled closer his juice, taking a sip as Eijiro tried to figure out from the notebook what he needed to do. He was still struggling with the second page of the exercises and somehow still didn't understand it.
Eijiro blinked, rubbing the side of his head rapidly as he scribbled on the paper. Katsuki eyed his carefully, crimson eyes staring intently. Eijiro then blinked. Katsuki watched as his expression spelled out that he finally understood something.
"Ooooooh! I get it! Thanks, Bakugou!" Eijiro told the male and Katsuki rolled his eyes at the male's gratitude. He watched as Eijiro finished with the calculation, his answer finally correlating with the one that Katsuki had found.
"It's about damn time! You were starting to waste my time!" Katsuki snapped at the male. Eijiro laughed lightly and went to take his drink, crimson orbs still eyeing the calculations. It took him a while but he felt confident now that he finally understood the concept.
Katsuki's aggressive and unorthodox ways was helping him much more than he expected. He was surprised. Of all things that Katsuki was good at, he didn't foresee that tutoring someone was one of them. It was almost unfair that he was skilled at everything.
The only flaw that he had was his terrible mouth and attitude at times. His sister on the other hand seemed to be only bad at cooking. They spoke the same at times but her attitude and compassion had people drawn towards her while people admired Katsuki's strength and perseverance.
He found his thoughts trail of to Mizuki as she flashed in his thoughts. He thought a lot about her during the week of study. They communicated with texts and talked from time to time but things were a bit too hectic to actually spend time together.
"…In the end, I fell for everything that was Mizuki…"
He recalled what he said that night and felt his cheeks heat up. He didn't regret telling her mother and brother how he felt. On the contrary, he wanted them to know that he called deeply for her and he hoped that he would be able to say it to her soon.
He felt a whack on his head, an angry ash blonde male glaring at him. "Why the hell did your pen stopped moving?! You're thinking of dumbass things again! Concentrate!" He scolded and Eijiro laughed sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head.
"Sorry about that! I'll concentrate!" He said and then looked back at the work. He eyed Katsuki as the male scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest. Eijiro blinked and then put down his pen, Katsuki frowning.
"Nah, Bakugou, can I ask you something?" Eijro asked the aggressive teenager, his facial expression becoming serious. This was his chance. He doubted that he would get another opportunity such as this.
"If it's about what we just covered, you can forget it. I already explained it to you three times. You need to use that airhead of yours and listen! I thought you started to understand it!" His tamper grew, a vein pulsing out of his head.
"It's not that." Katsuki gave him a blank look, Eijiro's tone of voice making him frown. He could see in the orbs starting at him, that he had something on his chest. He could feel a wave of uneasiness wash over him but kept it to himself.
"Spit it out, Kirishima."
"About the other night… I meant everything I said." Katsuki's brows knitted together. He was talking about the nonsense he spouted in the kitchen. He still clearly remembered everything that was said since he carried his confusion along with him.
"I really like Mizuki. I find my thoughts instinctively going back to her and always look for her smile when she's around. I want to be by her side and I want to become an important person to her," Eijiro said, Katsuki's gaze and frown intensifying tenfold.
"I've been wanting to go through with my thoughts for a long time now, but I don't want to do so without your permission." Katsuki's eyes twitched when Eijiro bowed in his seat. "Please let me go out with your sister!" He asked.
He wasn't talking about a date and that was what hit Katsuki the hardest. Eijiro was asking his permission to ask Mizuki to be his girlfriend. Mizuki told him that Eijiro wanted his approval to take the next step in their relationship and he stated that he didn't care who she dated.
However, it was entirely different now. This was real. Eijiro wanted a serious relationship with his sister. His sister. He knew he said that she could do what she wanted. He lied. He wasn't alright with anyone dating his sister.
The thought of Mizuki leaving his side for another made him cold to the core. It was ridicules, yet he couldn't help it. Mizuki's eyes only needed to stay on him. Mizuki was only allowed to stand by him where he could protect her. He was enough. No one else.
"What the hell makes you think you're good enough for my sister? Do you think that you'll be enough to deserve to stand next to her?" Katsuki asked the male, his tone low and dangerous. Eijiro pressed his lips together as he stared at the wooden table below.
"…Get it in your thick head, Red. I like you. Not anyone else. I pick you…"
"Because she picked me." He looked Katsuki straight in the eyes, the male's crimson orbs briefly widening. "I know that I still have a long way to go to become the man she deserves. I'm prepared for anything that may lay ahead," Eijiro said and sat confident, eyes gleaming.
"…Promise me that you won't ever think that you're not good enough…"
"I know that I can be good enough for Mizuki. I know that I can make her happy. I'll work hard to stand next to you both. That's why I ask for your permission to become that man," Eijiro said, Katsuki's wind blown away.
He wasn't trying to steal Mizuki away from him. On the contrary, he was aiming to stand next to them both. He was going as far to ask permission when he could easily bypass the ash blonde male and ask the question.
Katsuki disliked it. A lot.
He didn't want to approve of anyone. He didn't want to think that anyone was good enough for his sister. He didn't want anyone else by his side except Mizuki. It was supposed to be just the two of them…
"You've got a lot of balls, Shitty Hair, I'll give you that." Katsuki bit the inside of his cheek, mentally cursing at the male. "You always talk bullshit and somehow manage to pull off stupid stunts. It's irritating to think that you think you stand a chance with Mizuki," Katsuki growled out, Eijiro frowning.
"Listen here, Kirishima. Your guts aren't enough for Mizuki. Your hard work isn't enough to even come close to her. Your dedication is up to shit…" A shadow fell over his eyes. "So, you better work on that before you think that you'll ever be the man she deserves," he said.
Eijiro blinked, eyes traveling towards the twin brother who sat across from him. He could feel happiness burst out of his chest. Katsuki had a complicated way to gives across what he actually meant.
"I promise! You can count on me, Bakugou! I'll show you that I can-no, will be exactly the man she deserves!" Eijiro exclaimed, making a fist. Katsuki gave him a smug grin, pulling a thumb over his neck.
"I'll murder you if you become anything less," he threatened and Eijiro grinned from ear to ear, nodding. He did it. He received Katsuki's permission to finally take the next step in his and Mizuki's relationship.
It felt surreal, almost like a dream. This was it. he was going to take the next step and hopefully, Mizuki was prepared to take that step with him. He needed to stay confident and believe in himself, only one thing on his mind.
How exactly was he going to ask Mizuki Bakugou to be his girlfriend?
Later on…
Mizuki hummed happily in thought as she sat by her desk, her computer connecting to the software that she and her friends shared. It was a busy day and now it was time for her to sit back and relax while conversing with her crazy friends.
"Aaaaaaaand, welcome back to the Rinako-only special! You're tuning in with the one, the only, the aspiring, the breath-taking… Rinako! Today, we have two very special guests on our show!" Rinako's face popped up and Mizuki stifled a laugh.
Rinako Hamasaki
Quirk: Water transition
"Firstly, we welcome the smartest girl on the planet earth! She memorizes anything in a blink of an eye, has a weird obsession with guys and is probably one step away from conquering the world with technology, Akira!" Rinako's voice echoed and Akira's face came onto the screen.
Akira Chino
Quirk: Eidetic Memory
She wore her usual impassive expression, a bag on chips in hand as she snacked. She always came prepared when it came to facetime with Rinako. She would always act like it was a reality show and the audience would be the cute stuffed animals on her bed the microphone obviously her hairbrush.
"Next we have our little lovesick friend. She's tough, she'll blow you up without a second thought and she'll explode through the fashion industry if she doesn't kill her brother first. We have the hot and endearing, Mizuki!" Rinako introduced and silently clapped, making mock cheering sounds.
"You know, I thought that the crowd would become more mature but as always it's as immature as the host," Akira stated, holding out a chip and then taking a bite. Rinako pouted and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Shut up! They're part of the family! I would never even dare to throw out one of my own children! I'm not as heartless as you, Techno-kill!" Rinako snapped, Akira smirking at the nickname. She kind of liked it.
"I can see that you two are still energetic and alive. It doesn't look like the finals are getting you down at all," Mizuki finally sat down by her desk, pulling a piece of cloth along as she stitched and her two friends flinched.
"Hey, what happened to your face?" Akira asked, pointing at the screen. Mizuki blinked and raised an eyebrow. "You have a nasty bruise on your left cheek. Did that asshole of a brother hit you?! I'll dissect him!" Mizuki chuckled and shook her head holding a hand up.
"I was busy training with Izu-kun," They turned white in shock, mouths gaping. "He managed to get a good one in. I'm very proud but the poor guy couldn't stop apologizing." She snickered as she remembered him bowing and shouting apologies.
She didn't mind the bruise she conceived at all. On the contrary, she was wearing it as a trophy. He stopped holding back and caught her off guard. It hurt. She wasn't going to lie, but it showed her that he was once again one step closer to becoming a hero.
"Mizuki-chan, I know that you want to help him where you can but don't you think you're going to make more trouble between him and your brother? I-I mean, you said that he's been edgy for a while now. I'm worried that he's going to lash out," Rinako said and Akira nodded.
"It's smart not to tell Explodo-kill about your secrets but if it gets out, someone's going to get it. Besides, you shouldn't be helping the enemy. Bad juju," Akira pointed out and Mizuki rolled her eyes.
"You're too worried. You keep forgetting who's the older twin here. They need to start realizing that I'm not picking sides. I'm only helping out my boys," Mizuki said and Akira frowned. That was not how Katsuki was going to see it at all.
They all knew him too well when it came to his relationship with Izuku. He bullied and beat up the boy and Mizuki was always there to pick him up with encouragement. She was in the middle. She might not realize it, but she was the one under the most stress.
"Can we please not talk about boys tonight? I want to have some fun with my girls and forget about the awfulness of my astronomy books. Can we do that?" Rinako requested and had the other two nodding in agreement. That's why they had these calls, to encourage and support each other.
"Don't get your panty in a twist, Teddybear host." Rinako gave Akira a glare, her cheeks puffing. "Let's see… Tonight we have 'would you rather' questions. Huh, sounds like fun!" Akira grinned and Rinako paled.
"No! Anything but that! Who put it on the list?!" Akira smirked evilly and Mizuki chuckled. "You devil! You know that I can't make such important decisions! I can't make up my mind about…anything!" Rinako said and Akira shrugged.
"That's exactly why this is going to be fun." Rinako sniffed and Akira rolled her eyes at the dramatic behaviour. "You wanted up to do something fun each night of the exam week to make up for the stress. Don't go bitching about it," Akira said and Rinako let her face fall in defeat.
"Don't worry, Rinako. I'm sure it'll be fine. I'll start us off, okay?" Mizuki said and tapped her chin as she thought. She would have to make a question that was introductory and not too hard for Rinako to decide.
"Would you rather want arms for legs or legs for arms?" Mizuki asked the question and smirked. "I would rather have arms for legs. I would never want to replace my hands with anything. Designing is important."
Akira cupped her chin. "I'm going to have to agree with you. If I have arms for legs, then I'll be multitasking like a pro! I can program, study and drink coffee simultaneously," Akira stated and Mizuki laughed.
"I… I want arms for legs! No legs for arms! Ugh! I can either pedicure for life or manicure for life! But having arms as legs is going to look weird but having legs as arms is going look just as weird! I hate this game!" Rinako whined and let her head fall onto her desk.
"Calm down, Drama Queen. You'll find one that you can actually answer. It's my turn next." Akira pulled out a list of questions she made and had the two girls turn blue at her preparedness She made a list beforehand.
"Oh, I like this one. Would you rather randomly time travel 20 years ever time you yawn or teleport to a different place on earth every time you sneeze?" Akira asked and received blank expression from her friends. Mizuki burst out laughing, nearly falling off her chair from the weird question while Rinako panicked.
"Sneeze! Sneeze!" She answered quickly and they gave her perplexed expressions while she paled. "I mean, how many times would I travel through time in one school period?" Akira and Mizuki both burst out laughing, tears daring to form in the corner of their eyes.
"It's not funny!"
"It sure as hell is! I love this!" Akira laughed and wiped the tears from her eyes. "I would take the yawn one. Imagine through how many ages I'll be able to go through and what I'll be able to experience and memorize!" She said and Mizuki chuckled.
"Me too. I could see different fashion styles and get inspiration for any possible designing," Mizuki pointed out, the girls shaking their heads. That was practically all this girl was thinking about when answering these questions.
"I don't have anything to ask… Akira, you made a list, right? Just go one with that. Besides, I have an idea that I'll have more luck in answering with your ridicules questions," Rinako said and Akira's face darkened, causing them all to pale.
They were in trouble.
Katsuki let out a breath as he stepped inside his home. The entire day was damn tiring to help Eijiro with the simplest of things. A park of his was starting to regret that he offered to help him while the other part of him was making sure he could do better in tutoring than that damn ponytail girl.
All he wanted to do now was eat, get in a good sleep and wake up early for his jogging and training session. He rubbed the back of his head, and briefly paused when he took a whiff of an aroma that lingered around him.
"Katsuki, is that you?!" He grunted at his mother's booming voice. "Go and call your sister for dinner! It's nearly ready!" She called and he scoffed. He barely came home and he already had work to do.
"Call her yourself, Old Bat!"
"I'll be sure to give your portion to Mizuki with that attitude, Mister!" Mitsuki yelled from the kitchen and Katsuki gritted his teeth. His stomach growled as he angrily stomped upstairs, his fight lost against his mother.
Mizuki was probably back from her jogging and studying. If he recalled her schedule correctly then she was currently… He paled. She was busy talking to her two friends over video call and that was the last thing he needed right now. A bunch of teenage girls talking about nonsense.
He heard laughing coming from the room, his mood sour but not as much as he wanted it to be. He could feel the calm and happiness from his sister. It washed over him in waves and was quick to get rid of his irritation.
He went to knock, his ears perking when he heard Akira ask a question. "Would you rather begin every sentence with 'Hey, idiot' or end every sentence with 'haha, I was just kidding'?" Akira asked and his brow twitched. What where they doing?
"I feel like the second one would be very bad and you're going to have to rethink the construction of your sentences. Like, your dog's is still alive, haha, just kidding… I'll rather go with the first one," Rinako said and Mizuki chuckled.
"Me too. I'd rather act like Explodo-kill than try to say something cool and then mess it up," Mizuki said and a vein popped out of Katsuki's head. He practically kicked off the door, sparks appearing all over Mizuki's skin while her two friends nearly fell over in surprise.
"What did you say, Fabric Conditioner?!"
"Well, if it isn't the man of the hour. What's up, Captain Asshole?" Akira asked as she poured oil on the fire. She ate a chip, her facial expression impassive. Mizuki let out a breath, her heart still hammering in her chest from the surprise.
"That was close. I almost blew up!" She glared at her brother and pointed accusingly at him. "You know I hate it if you do that! Next time to come into my room without knocking, I'm going to burn down your room!" She threatened.
"HAH?! You were the one spouting crap with your stupid extras! Don't come act like you're innocent!" He yelled and then blinked at the bruise on her cheek. "What the-? Where the hell did you get that?! Were you in a fight?!"
Mizuki gave him a displeased look. "Yeah, you should see the other guy." Her voice dripped with sarcasm but her brother was livid. She saw this and let out a breath. She gave him a reassuring smirk, red eyes gleaming.
"Calm down. I was training my flash step and crashed when I overestimated myself. If you're planning to beat anyone up, then you're going to beat me up. Don't worry about it, Little Brother," Mizuki said and resisted to let out a breath when she saw him relax.
"The old woman called you to eat! Don't be late!" He shouted after a scoff and slammed her door closed. Mizuki let out the breaths he held and ruffled her hair, her two friends giving her concerned looks.
"He's worse than usual."
"You can say that again. It's like he's a walking, ticking time bomb. You really need to get your brother to chill before he really ends up killing someone," Akira said and Mizuki smiled. She gave her friends a warm look.
"Don't worry about him. He's a bit stressed for the exams. He'll get over it, he always does. He gets these outbursts when he starts to become restless and impatient. As soon as he kicked everyone's ass at the exam then he'll be back to his usual self," Mizuki said, knowing that she was going to do something calming for her brother again.
"If you say so… Just… Be careful, okay?"
"I promise I will, but you two need to keep safe as well! I'm glad that the kidnappings have started to disappear but they still haven't caught the culprit yet. I want you to stay alert and safe at all times!" Mizuki said and Akira smirked, Rinako rolling her eyes.
"Yeah, yeah. You're all such worry warts. Akira's uncle is on those people's case and pressuring them into hiding. Besides, you're not the only tough one around here, Mizuki. You keep forgetting we're friends!" Rinako said, Akira chuckling and Mizuki grinning.
"Wouldn't want it any other way!" Mizuki said and heard a call from the other side of the door and snickered. "I'll see you guys later. Good luck with the studies. After the finals, we're definitely going out to celebrate! Love you!"
"Oh! I know the perfect place! I'll be sure to blow your minds!" Rinako giggled and bounced happily in her chair until her mother stepped into the room. "Ah… Gotta go! Love you, bye!" She rang off and Akira chuckled.
"Yeah, yeah, bye. Hate you too," Akira said and rang off, Mizuki relaxing in her chair. They were a crazy bunch that always made her life colourful. She wondered what Rinako was planning and knew that it was definitely going to be something that took their breath away.
"I can't wait."
