Chapter 1: A Dragon Found

A baby's wails shot through the night sky. A frail and malnourished body that looked like it had the nutrients sucked out of it could be seen. A closer look shows that the body was female, with dark skin, and long, poofy hair.

The wails got louder as the baby could now be seen, cradled in the late mother's arms.

The baby was of a brighter skin tone than his mother but still much darker than most, if not all that reside in clover.

His hair was short as he was just born, but were already in loose coils. The newborn had gold eyes with jagged, slit pupils as well as small but noticeable black marks extending from his inner eye corners, resembling a bird of prey. In his mouth two fangs could be seen with no other teeth present.

In conclusion his appearance looked very odd, almost demonic; at least when compared to normal townsfolk. As the baby kept crying a torchlight as well as a voice could be heard.

"That is a baby I heard." the unidentified figure had said. As they searched around they found the malnourished body of the mother and gasped."what could've done this?" The person could now be seen, their feminine and horrified face illuminated by their torch.

The woman had on the basic tunic and pants of the residents of the realm. The real eye catcher though was the purple gem embedded in a choker around her neck. Which didn't really fit the rest of her outfit. She was of a light complexion with sea green eyes and red hair.

The red haired woman approached cautiously as she wasn't sure if this was actually a baby anymore. As she continued moving forward she saw the body rustling! She yelped and jumped back in a panic. The body kept rustling as she could now see that there actually was a baby. It had moved what the woman presumed was his mother in his panic.

The woman approached much more confidently, and carefully picked up the baby which was crying even louder and had even soaked the ground with his tears.

"you certainly cry a lot! Though if I was in your situation I'd definitely be crying too"

The woman exclaimed as the baby's tears started going into overdrive."okay, this is ridiculous" She said with an exasperated look; right after though she had a look of realization as she said "I know exactly what to call you, Tear!" The baby had actually stopped crying at this and simply looked at the woman with his head tilted.

That's when the woman noticed his features, along with another odd one; the baby had long pointed ears. "Okay, that's really weird, not even mentioning his pupils and those eye marks, and those fangs?……. What did I just find? The what I'm presuming is his mother looks human, this baby almost looks devilish. Maybe it's a side effect of his magic?" the woman thought, trying to convince herself that this was just a regular child. Though she wasn't entirely sure, she didn't think that this was some devil child but he definitely didn't look normal; and if you weren't at least normal, you'd never make it in this world.

A Few months Later

Tear was now crawling around as the woman looked after him. They were outside right in front of a cottage house. The woman had a peaceful smile on her face, though it quickly soured as she remembered that she had to go get some more food from the village.

"I can't take Tear into public spaces with his appearance, but I hate leaving him here alone. He's always crying when I come back and it just breaks my heart." The woman thought out loud. "But what choice do I have? I can't just not go, otherwise we'd both starve." With a resigned sigh the woman made up her mind and went to go pick up the 3 month old.

With a very slight grunt of effort she picked the boy up and locked him in."alright at least now he won't be in any danger. Whether from the villagers or the wildlife." As she stepped away she heard Tears crying and sighed to herself as she flinched.

She had to leave him here. Besides she'd be back soon anyway; it'd be just fine.

As the still unnamed woman walked the path to Ochre village she was humming a tune. Eventually the first houses came into view and she picked up the pace into a jog.

As she was jogging though, a person was sneaking behind her. He had tan skin, curly black hair, and small lips. A sharp nose and small grey eyes were his most defining facial features.

"I know you're there" the still unnamed woman called out.

"Ah man." The man said with a playful tone."and I thought I had finally got you Circe." Again the man said in a playful tone to the recently named Circe.

"I don't know why you thought that, I'm unsneakable!" Circe said with a mock-pompous and cocky voice. "And besides, you stepped on a branch like a minute before, heaven."

"I was hoping you didn't notice that" Heaven said with a dejected pout.

"Well, I ought to get going. I need to get so much food for that boy of mine" Circe said with a grin. "Oh yeah, I forgot you had a brat, you've never introduced him to me and you barely ever mention him. If I didn't know any better I'd think you're trying to hide him."

"Well I'm glad you know better than" she said with a slight seriousness in her voice.

"Welp, bye Heaven" Circe said with a small smile. "Yeah, bye Circe." Heaven said with an equally small smile. Circe continued down the path to the market, greeting anybody that saw her quickly. "Well she's certainly in a rush" a man said. "Yeah I know, that's how it's been for the last few months." Said the woman next to him.

Circe walked to one of the fruit stands with a quickened pace. An old looking man with grey hair and a happy smile said as he turned around"Hey Circe, haven't seen you in a couple weeks. What can I get for you" the man said. "Hey Eenai, I want the same as usual, 2 dozens of carrots, Broccoli, Apples, Bananas, and pot potatoes."

"You know, you never explained the sudden change in the food you buy.""if I didn't know any better, I'd think you have an extra mouth to feed" Eenai said with a curious glint in his eye.

"Yeah, I don't know why but I've just been craving greens, and fruit lately. She lied."but seriously what is wrong with that kid, he's only 3 months old and is eating apples and bananas like they're all he got." Circe thought in annoyance.

While Eenai was packaging up the order he noticed the annoyed look on her face. He didn't question it though as annoying her even further was not a risk he was willing to take. "alright, I've got it all bagged up for you." Eenai said kindly.

"Thanks, have a nice day Eenai" Circe said happily, the hint of annoyance was gone and was replaced by a bit of endearment. Circe handed him 300 yul and went on her way.

She fortunately didn't run into anyone on the way back and got home in 30 minutes. When she arrived she could hear the sound of crying as she couldn't help but sigh again with sadness. As she walked in she picked Tear up and gave him an apple. Almost immediately the weird eared boy stopped crying to focus on the fruit.

"Your love of fruit will never make sense to me." "But at least it's cheap, if you ate meat like this I'd definitely be broke" she said jokingly as Tear continued taking off chunks of the apple.

After he was done with the apple Circe took the core and burned it with her magic. She wasn't a mage and she definitely didn't have much magic, but she did have a few spells that were pretty useful in a scuffle.

Tear's unfocused gaze zoned in as his pupils turned back into the jagged slits that looked similar to some lizards; just staring at the small flame.

"Oh man, that's only slightly creepy" Circe said with a nervous sweat drop. She turned off her magic and Tear's eyes unfocused back into circular pupils.

Circe walked back out and placed Tear down. Tear started crawling around and after about 5 minutes just stopped and stared at something.

"Tear?" Circe said as she walked over. When she got there she saw that Tear was looking at a small lizard, his pupils were dilated into slits and he looked to be gathering himself.

"You're not gonna do what I think you are, are y-" as she was interrupted by Tear, pouncing at the lizard with a shout. Unfortunately the shout scared the lizard off and he missed completely. Tear just sat there for a bit as Circe watched to see what he would do. Tear's pupils went back into circles and he immediately started crying.

Circe ran to him and picked him up. As she cradled him with a sweat drop. "Just what is up with you?" She thought.

Tear stopped crying after she picked him up and started reaching for her face."aww, do you want to hug your mama?" She said endearingly as she leaned in.

That was a mistake.

the moment she was is reach Tears eyes turned back to slits and he shot at her with his mouth open wide and fangs at the ready. Luckily Circe noticed this last second abd dodged back just in time not to get her nose taken off.

"WHAT THE HELL!!" Circe shouted. "Do Not EVER Do That Again!!" Tear looked at Circe with semi understanding as his brain underdeveloped brain worked overtime to compute what she was saying.

He understood anger and what exactly caused such a reaction. What he couldn't understand was what was wrong with what he did. To him that wasn't even aggression but more of an attempt at play.

The anger in her voice and his lack of understanding only made him feel worse. All these new feelings and experiences were too much and he felt a pressure in his eyes.

"wait, wait, wait! Don't cry Tear I'm sorry I shouldn't have yelled at you." Circe said slightly panicked. Circe brought her face back up to him. "There is no way it'll actually hurt that bad if he bites me. He's just a baby." She thought reassuringly as she prepared.

The pain never hit though as instead of a bite she felt a nuzzle. She opened her eyes and saw Tear with wet cheeks nuzzling her. "I'll take it that you're sorry too?" Circe said with a laugh.

Tear only turned his head questioningly which caused Circe to laugh even more.

Circe brought Tear back inside and gave him another apple. She took him to their bed and git ready to take a nap. "You're weird, but I definitely wouldn't give you up anything Tear."

7 Years Later

Circe couldn't believe 7 years had already passed. Tear had grown a lot in that time. He how stood at her hip and his hair had grown into these large individual coils. His ears were still sharp and didn't look scarred, so she knew it wasn't some kind of injury he got before she found him. Despite all that though the biggest change was in and from his mana. He had an absolutely inhuman amount of it, almost like he was blessed by the energy itself.

Speaking of mana, when he awakened it he grew a small tail that would come out whenever he used it. while she wasn't completely sure, she could've sworn she saw tiny horns sprout out. Not to mention his attributes which she had never seen before. It was a weird black smoke with red lightning cracking through it.

It also slowly drained the mana out of things that it touched. Which she found out the hard way when he tried shooting it out of himself and it hit her in the stomach. Had her dizzy for a few hours.

He wasn't just weird in appearance and magic though; he was weird in personality and general behavior as well. He was normally quiet but if you got him going you couldn't get him to stop. He also seemed to go from happy to mad or sad in an instant, almost like he was bipolar.

Sometimes he'd just stop and stare at you with his slit amber eyes which turned red when he used his mana, almost like he was stalking you. He was observant but forgetful. A pretty interesting character.

Her hair was a bit longer and she looked a lot wiser but also more tired. Raising a child isn't easy, especially one that doesn't want to stay in the house when she tells them to.

Tear didn't cry nearly as often as when he was a baby, but when he did it was like a waterfall.

"Be careful Tear. Magic beast sightings have been at a high lately so be really careful." Circe said with concern. "Don't worry mama, I'm way too fast for any magic beast!" Tear exclaimed with his hands oh his hips and his chest puffed out.

"Still though, be careful ok Tear" Circe said with even more concern. "Ok mama, I promise I'll be careful." Tear said exasperatedly.

"Oh yeah and remember to st-" "Stay close I know" Tear interrupted as he closed the door. "That boy is gonna be the death of me I just know it." Circe said to herself.

Once Tear got to the forest he jumped up as his nails elongated into claws. He kept climbing until he reached a branch at the top and started jumping across. "I've got to be the coolest kid alive!" He thought to himself. Unfortunately since he was too distracted thinking, he tripped and fell.

"AHHHH!" He screamed in terror as he lashed out with his claws at anything. Luckily his wild swings found another tree and he was able to slow down his descent. "Whew! That was definitely not very cool. And not very careful either." He said breathlessly as he chastised himself.

As he looked around he realized he went a bit farther than originally planned. "Ok, I'm not lost. I only went one direction. ……" he paused. "I just gotta figure out which direction that was."

After a bit of debating with himself he decided that trying to climb up another tree would help. "Ok, I think I can see the edge from here. It is a lot farther than what I was supposed to go but I'm sure mama won't be too mad as long as I come home quick."

As he started walking back he heard a howl and a weird screechy roar. "Woah! What kind of animals would make that noise?" He asked himself curiously. "Welp! There's only one way to find out!" He exclaimed as rushed over to the sounds.

Once he got there he saw two huge magic beasts fighting it out. One was a red wyvern with a small crown of plates, large wings, and an intricate thagomizer with a large red spike on the tip. The other was kinda like a wolf but blue with white fur on its chest, a relatively small head with gold horns, and a large flat tail.

Tear could only watch in wonder as the wyvern shot at the Wolf with a fire ball. The wolf had jumped out of the way and the fire ball blew a tree into splinters. "Wow! I didn't know magic beasts like this even existed!" The next thing he saw was the wolf magic beast attracting these weird glowing bugs toward it with a howl.

It then jumped at the wyvern going in for a claw strike. The wyvern managed to fly out of the way and bash the wolf's head with its talons. The wolf backed up and seemed to regain its bearings from the clean strike which had left a gash on its chin and one of its horns broken.

The wolf then howled again but this time lightning had blasted all around it as it seemed to get angry. It then threw an uppercut at the wyvern even though it wasn't close. The action was made clear though as a wave of electricity coursed through the ground as it made its way to the wyvern.

The wyvern again had dodged the attack but Tear who at this point was completely engrossed in the battle had just barely realized that the wave was going in his direction. "Oh crap!" He screamed in terror as he jumped out of the way just in time to not get obliterated by the blast. Luckily for him the two monsters didn't hear his scream; too focused on their battle to notice anything as small as him.

"I think I should go before any other stray blasts come my way." He made sure that he thought to himself just in case the monsters were a little more observant.

He immediately ran away and climbed up a tree as he looked for something to eat. He always felt like he had to hunt something but at the same time he felt an intrinsic desire to protect nature. It was so weird but after he turned six, the urge to hunt outweighed the urge to protect.

As he kept creeping at the top of the trees he saw exactly what he was looking for. A small deer like creature with blue fur and small gold horns. They tasted absolutely delicious. They had this sweet and tangy flavor that just made sense to him. They were also easy to find and fairly common.

He didn't fully leave the tree and climbed half-way down. His jagged slit eyes going from the bright gold to a deep and vibrant red.

Tear's legs spring loaded as he got ready to pounce in the mass of them. He waited a few seconds till one of them looked up and straight at him. Before it could even bleat in alarm he was already upon it with his claws out and fangs glistening.

The deer like creature tried to run the opposite direction but it wasn't meant to be as Tear grabbed its back and wrestled it down. It tried to fight back but it was too late as Tear tore its throat out with his claws and fangs.

"LETS GO! Another easy win for Tear!" He said in triumph. "I can't wait to take this back to mama! She'll be so happy!" Obviously, Tear couldn't eat raw meat so whenever he went out he usually brought something back.

Tear then picked the deer thing up and put it on his back. After making sure it was secure he was off.

When he got a quarter of the way back home though he felt something was off. Like he was being stalked. The deer's neck had been bleeding for a while. And was actually still bleeding now. That could definitely attract other predators.

After a few seconds his suspicions were confirmed as a single, non magical wolf showed itself while snarling. "You don't see lone wolves very often." Tear said casually while showing off his oddly large fangs.

He dropped the weird deer body and got ready. The wolf immediately sprinted at him, jaw open wide ready to tear him asunder. Tear didn't skip a beat as he got low to the ground and put his entire body into a claw swipe.

The only problem was that the wolf's attack was a feint. Tear had fell for it as he immediately fell down with nothing to catch himself. The wolf capitalized on his mistake and managed to grab Tear's wrist.

"Hghn" Tear grunted, keeping any cries of pain quiet. Tear put his legs on the wolf's stomach and kicked up, launching it off of him.

The wolf had a hard fall and got up slowly; giving Tear enough time to get up as well, fangs beared, claws out, and snarling. He could've used his magic, but that felt like cheating when his opponent couldn't.

The wolf decided that the deer thing wasn't worth getting injured and ran away into the bushes.

"Whew! Another close call. Hopefully mama doesn't notice my hand" Tear said nervously as he looked at his bleeding wrist. It hurt to rotate, but he should be fine all the way back to the house.

Luckily the deer wasn't bleeding anymore so he should be able to take the body back without any more problems.

After a few hours of walking he saw the tree line and started running. "Finally, it's been forever" he said. He then realized that it was dark out. Much darker than when he normally returned home.

"Ah crap, mama is gonna be so mad at me" and mad at him she was. The moment he got home, he saw his mom pacing back and forth with her hand by her mouth like she was thinking.

When Tear walked up and his mother saw him, he could see her face light up with relief! And then it immediately darkened with anger. "Where WERE YOU!!! You had me SO WORRIED!! YOU WERE GONE FOR WA-" "I know mama" Tear interrupted. "I went a little bit farther than I meant to and got a little bit lost."

As Circe calmed down she wanted to know what exactly happened that made Tear so late. "Alright then, tell me about everything that happened." She said curiously yet irritated at the same time. "Well first I had climbed a tree and got to one of the branches." He said excitedly. "Then I started jumping from branch to branch until I… well fell" he said embarrassed.

He could already see the look on his mother's face as he said quickly while holding his arms up."but I caught myself before I hit the ground and I'm completely fine." But that was the wrong choice as Circe saw the bite mark from his little altercation with the wolf.

"What Happened To Your Hand!?" She said panicked as she grabbed his arm to inspect it.

"I'm getting to that!" Tear said annoyed. "After I fell I checked where I was and saw these two magic beasts fighting!". "WHAT" Circe again screamed. Tear covered his sharp ears while flinching. "They didn't see me and I ran when they started doing big attacks at each other." Circe breathed out a sigh "good."

Tear continued on with his explanation up until he got to the wolf part. "The wolf was the one who got my hand trying to take my prey!" "Oh Yeah!, I left it outside when you told me come in!"

Tear went out to get his kill and brought it back into the house. "This could feed us for at least a few days mama!". "Yeah it could." "This is gonna save me so much Yul." She thought happily.

"Ok first off, you're not allowed out into the forest a-" "Oh Come On!" Tear jumped in."just because I got a little cut on my wrist?!" He exclaimed.

"First off let me finish. Secondly no not just because of your wrist. I didn't realize there were magic beasts of that level in the forest." She scolded. "Not to mention the fact that I can't have you brawling with the local wildlife."

"Please Mama. What if I promise not to far and stay on the floor? A-" "No." Circe interrupted this time. "I can't let you go by yourself. But I can go with you since I understand how much you love exploring." Tear's eyes watered up a little; but right before he could live up to his namesake he wiped them and nodded.

"Thank you Mama, I love you." Circe let out a wide smile. "I love you too Tear."

A couple months had passed since then. Tear was up on a tree; eyes red staring at a herd of what he learned were called Kelbi. Circe was below in bush, both were ready and had agreed that they'd get one of the larger bucks.

Once Tear had locked on to the one they wanted it was already over. He pounced immediately and managed to grab one of its developed antlers, snapping its neck and scattering the rest of the herd.

"Good Job Tear!". Circe said in praise, hand up for a high five. "Thanks mama! This one put up less of a fight than they normally do; so it wasn't as much fun as I would've liked." Tear said, not leaving her hanging.

"That's a little morbid don't you think?" Circe said awkwardly. "What does morbid mean?" Tear asked innocently. "Well….. Morbid basically means being interested in messed up stuff."

"Am I messed up mama?" Tear asked fearfully. "Of course not sweetie. You're my little boy. You could never be messed up." Circe said in a motherly tone.

"I'm Not Little!!!" Tear yelled with a blush you could see even through his dark skin.

"To me you are." Circe said playfully.

"Anyway let's get this Kelbi over to the house." Tear picked up the animal and started walking back home.

Circe hadn't moved yet as she was looking around."you okay mama" Tear said questioningly with a hint of worry.

"Oh sorry Tear it just felt like we were being watched." Circe replied. "Oh, it must've been a wolf or something. They won't come out with both of us here." Tear said confidently with a smile.

"Yeah, you're probably right. Just a wolf." Circe couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. But she didn't feel in danger so she decided to ignore it.

Little did they know what was watching them was no wolf. A man in a white robe, white braided back hair, a cross on his forehead, gold eyes, and finally four tattoos; two being crescent shaped outside of each eye and the other two being dots on his forehead.

The mother-son duo got home with no other interruptions. Tear had already skinned the Kelbi and cut out the meat. Circe was getting ready to cook it with her magic.

"It's really convenient that you have fire magic huh mama." Tear said happily. "Yeah, but I wish I could use fire magic like the royal vermilion house." She replied with a dreamy smile.

"Royal? Vermilion? What does all that mean mama?" Tear as confused. "Huh? Have I really never explained what the noble houses are to you?" Circe said as he shook his head.

"Well the nobles are a group of families who have a bunch of influence; either through magic power or money. But most of the time it's both!"

"Woah! These nobles must be really strong then!" Tear exclaimed. "Yep! But the strongest and most influential are the three royal houses. House Silva, House Clover, and House Vermilion." Circe explained.

"The Vermilion are most known for their fire magic, like mine. The way I hear they use fire is beyond my wildest dreams." Circe finished.

"Don't worry mama, I'll get stronger than every royal; and master my magic for you!" Tear exclaimed excitedly, his hands on his hips.

"With your magic power and attribute, I'm hard pressed to believe you Tear." Circe said while bending down and hugging her adopted son.

Tear hugged her back and watched her go outside. After a few minutes he heard screaming. Then suddenly, he had this terrible-no dreadful feeling. He didn't know why but something had happened to his mom.

He sprinted outside in a panic. When he got outside he saw a man flying in the air with a grimoire out. He had white braided hair, eyes as gold as his own, red tattoos on his face, and finally ears that were just like his.

Circe couldn't believe it. A man with features just like Tear's had just popped up. A look of calm anger on his face. "Give me the magic stone on your neck human" the man said.

"Magic stone? Human? What the hell is this guy talking about?" Circe thought. "I have no idea who you are! Why would I give you my very important things for no reason!" Circe yelled angrily.

"I'm giving you one chance; and one chance only! Give me the stone!" The man yelled back even angrier than she did. "No Way!" Circe again yelled.

The man then immediately seemed to calm down as he brought out his grimoire. "Fine then, you leave me no choice."

What caught Circe's attention was the fact that the grimoire wasn't normal. It was a 4-leaf! "This is bad. A lot worse than I thought! This isn't some random mugger!" Circe thought fearfully.

Then her worst fear came to light. "MAMA!" She heard. Circe turned around as her heart dropped. "Tear, Get Out Of Here Now!" Tear stopped at the loud and fearful tone his mother took.

"Mama who is that guy? Why is he here and why does he have his grimoire out." Circe was about to reply when the man appeared right before Tear.

"Hello old friend. I am Licht. Leader of the Eye of the Midnight Sun."

"Eye of The Midnight Sun? Leader? Why did he call Tear old friend?" Circe was starting to panic. She couldn't even tell when this guy moved. Since he was distracted she decided to take out her grimoire.

As Circe had gotten a spell ready Licht had looked over his shoulder directly at her. Fear overtook her but she managed to push through and attacked.

"Fire Creation Magic: Wild Fire" she exclaimed as with her hands up as 5 fire balls rained down on him. "Oh no Tear! Did I hit him?" Luckily Tear had rolled out of the way after hearing the spell called. Licht on the other hand had disappeared.

"You didn't heed my warning, human" Licht had said smoothly, just a couple feet behind her.

Licht's grimoire flipped to a page. Circe readied to dodge it but as she hear the words it was already too late. "Light Magic: Light Swords of Conviction!" the moment Licht had completed the chant a flat blade of light with two equally sized blade on both ends fired at her.

She couldn't react in time as the light sword stuck into her stomach. "MAMA!!" Tear screamed out in anguish as she cried out.

Circe collapsed as Licht walked over to her to grab the magic stone. When he was halfway there though a ball of black smoke with red lightning though out it whizzed passed him.

"STAY AWAY FROM HER!!" Tear screamed in anger. Tear ran at him eyes red as can be with tears flying out.

"I've never seen magic like that before. I can tell you're gonna love it when you come back." Licht said happily. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!" Tear was still screaming getting even angrier at his lack of attention.

Once Tear got to the man he tried to tear him apart with a claw strike. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be as Licht grabbed his wrist. "I'm sorry brother, but I'm going to have to harm you."

"What Do You Mean Brother!?" Tear said with more confusion than anger. Suddenly Licht's grimoire flipped to a different page. "Light Magic:Bright Judgement Whip" out of Licht's hand came a long whip of light that smacked Tear in the face and sent him sprawling back.

Tear struggled to stand back up as he almost fell back over due to the dizziness he was feeling. Once he came to, his magic exploded out of him as cried out in rage.

Once he stopped the tail that could barely even be seen had fully formed. The tail was long, covered in black scales, and had a sharp curved barb on the underside. Tear had stopped crying as he sprinted at licht again.

"Light Magic: Bright Judgement Whip" Licht called out. Though this time the initial strike missed as Tear had jumped slid under it. Licht didn't cancel the spell though as the whip started lashing out wildly.

Tear had managed to dodge a few of the lashes but eventually his mad dash was cut short as he got hit in the gut. Tear was sent flying back but landed on his feet and kept going.

Licht was shocked at the fact that this kid was able to take two hits from his whip even if he was holding back immensely. Tear had kept pushing forward and this time when the whip came towards him he grabbed it and flew around wildly.

"I have to do something. My son is giving it his all right now and I'm here, not even moving!?" Circe had thought to herself. While she had passed out due to the unexpected pain of the sword in her gut, she had woken up rather quickly.

She wasn't able to move and she could feel herself bleeding out. She knew that this was probably her last day and she accepted that. But not without at least assuring her son's survival.

"Get up Circe! Your son needs you! Come on! Please, just Move!" She continued to encourage and beg herself. She had managed to get her arm positioned at Licht.

She hadn't used a lot of magic but she decided to put everything she had into one attack. Her grimoire flipped to a page as she called out her strongest spell "Fire Magic: Scorched Earth!" A circle of fire appeared around Licht which he luckily didn't notice. Suddenly the circle of fire brightened as flames rose in a pillar that consumed Licht.

"Yes!!" Circe said. A smile on her face despite the blood dripping out of her mouth and the pain in her stomach.

"I wouldn't celebrate just yet Human" Licht had said, right next to her. Circe's smile dropped instantly as it was replaced by a look of utter shock. "how?" She thought to herself. Though almost like he read her mind, he replied "I'm not a fool human. I saw the fire around me. And even if I didn't. I'm a light mage. You'd never catch me with an attack like that."

Circe could only look in shock as all the hope left her body. Tear's blind rage had stopped when he saw his mother's all out attack. Seeing it do nothing had the same effect and replaced his rage with hopelessness.

As the adrenaline Tear had built up drained he found it harder to stay awake as he passed out. Licht looked at him with an endearing smile which dropped when he turned his gaze to Circe.

Licht bent over and tore the magic stone off the choker and left without another word. Circe couldn't believe how bad things had gotten so quickly. Just thirty minutes ago they were getting ready to have a meal. Now Circe was on death's door and her adopted son probably wouldn't wake up in time to talk to her again.

"This is definitely not how I imagined my last day alive." She tried to joke with herself. She tried to drag her way to Tear but didn't get very far. A lack of blood and magic really takes a toll on your strength and stamina.

Since she knew she wasn't gonna make it she decided to try and burn her last words in the grass for Tear to read. Though even that was almost impossible as she only managed to get one sentence out before her magic power completely drained.

"This is seriously the most pitiful thing I've ever been a part of." Circe said, joking to herself.

"Sorry son, I won't be able to see you surpass all the nobles now." She said solemnly, coughing up blood.

"Well, at least i got to be a parent before I died. And a damn good one if I say so myself." And with that, Circe had drawn her last breath and passed away.

A Few Hours later

Tear had just had a terrible nightmare. His Mom had died to a creepy dude with weird tattoos and features like his, and he had gotten his ass beat by said dude. Which is how he knew he was dreaming. Some guy just shows up, kills his mom, and beats the shit out of him for no reason? That sounds like some stupid dream.

But then as he fully woke up he realized something. "Why did I go to sleep outside? Did mama kick me out or something?" He thought outloud.

Tear got up as he looked around. It was pitch black but he didn't have any trouble seeing. Another one of his weird quirks he guesses. He looked around and saw something that shook him to his core.

A body. Hair just as red as the blood around it.

"Mama?". Tear said scared. No answer.

"Mama!?" Tear said louder. Again, no answer.

"MAMA!!" Tear full on shouted. And for the last time, there was no answer.

Tear couldn't believe his eyes. His mother couldn't be dead, it wasn't possible, it would never be possible. He ran over to the body and immediately started shaking her, panick in his voice.

"Mama, Please wake up!" At this point Tear was crying so much that ground around him darkened. Tear continued to shake his adoptive mother's body to no avail.

Tear didn't know what to do. He was sad, confused, panicked, but the more he processed, the more his feelings changed. He got less confused. He got his less panicked. He even got less sad. His tears stopped flowing. His body stopped moving. His brain stopped thinking.

there was only one emotion present in his mind right now. And that was pure, utter Rage. His magic surged around him, the grass around him died. He didn't notice it in his anger but his mothers body started getting torn apart.

he looked around as he saw something that took him out of his blind rage immediately. A message that read "I'm more proud of you than you'll ever know, I love you Tear." It was kinda hard to make out with all the dead grass around it but he was able to read it.

The calm didn't last long though as his rage surged even further. The magic around him became even more volatile as the black, magic draining smoke spread further. Circe's body was completely torn apart in the storm of magic and the small peices got scattered into the wind.

Tear made no noise in his rage as his mothers note burned itself into his memory. His mind was focused on two things, his mother's final message, and a message of his own. "Kill Licht!". That was it. Just running over and over again

"Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!""Kill Licht!".
