(Chapter 21: Getting Things in Order)
It would be the start of December and with it came a few of the Matriarchs being cycled out to the stars to go forward for missions of compliance to conquer new planets in the name of the Master of Mankind. Yet it would be despite this that Ben would find himself continuing to get used to things within the 31st Millenium and both getting to better know the Matriarchs and some of their Legions overall, but the Emperor himself who as far as Ben was concerned was a strange and enigmatic figure to be around.
(December 4th, 950. M30, Holy Terra, 2:10 Pm)
It would 10 minutes after 2 in the afternoon as Ben was currently with Forrix in workshopping not only designs for subterranean siege weaponry, but also zords/megazords that could be used as en-masse fortress-busting weapons.
"I understand that the use of the drills in question; would be useful for launching underground assaults. However, I do have to ask how we would use them going forward?" Forrix questioned as the holographic projection the drills so far were on display
"An armored drill that can burrow through enemy defenses is one thing. However, having it protect our men from enemy fire should we be spotted is another." Forrix spoke wondering how this was going to work out beyond its initial abilities
"That is why it won't simply just work as a drill, Mr. Forrix. Why stop at a drill that can pierce through this ceramite and plasteel stuff like butter, like any other one? When you can also have it double as an armored personnel vehicle too." Ben replied as he showed the armaments within
"Other than three rotating pairs of drills that can be used to punch through enemy fortifications. On the offensive side, it will include plasma cannons, twin Melta Lances, and a rocket launcher that contains concussion and fragmentation rockets. Then for defense, it will contain 4 separate shield generators. This way even if any Iron Warriors are caught in a fire-fight they have some protection going." Ben further spoke in regards to the armaments of said drill
"As a more effective replacement, why not have Krak Missiles instead of fragmentation? It would serve better to break through defenses and any heavily armored infantry." Forrix questioned
"What are Krak Missiles?...I'm still learning all about the weaponry that your Imperium has from Perturabo and Sekhmet. So you'll have to excuse me if I don't know what Krak Missiles are." Ben asked back regarding what the explosives were
"They are mainly used against heavy-infantry, bunkers and armored targets in general. Therefore they will prove a greater yield of effectiveness against enemy defenses than fragmentation missiles. In addition, to causing minimal collateral damage on impact; which would allow us to better focus on completing objectives without worry of civilian casualties." Forrix informed the Ultimatrix wielder
"That…That works out a lot better than what I was gonna do. So let's swap that out for this then!" Ben said in liking the option far better than his original idea
"Good, now then, once we have broken through the enemy lines with these drills of yours. How many of my battle-brothers can these drills effectively house, Tennyson? The operation and maintenance of these drills are one thing. However, the number than can be housed within is another." Forrix questioned
"It can house a 10-man squad of you Astartes guys. As I mentioned earlier it'll take 2 to pilot it and another to operate the weapons and targeting. Leaving 6 of you to go in rotation as needed." Ben answered back
"Best part is, is that with how effective these are, that all we would really need to do; is simply punch through an enemy's sewage systems. Not only as the best entrypoint, for an underground assault, but it works really well in breaking down their infrastructure. Then from there smash our way upwards and then its free reign from there." Ben further spoke as to how most effective the drills would be in an urban setting
"I have to admit, Tennyson. You are a special case, your approach to tactics is commendable to say the least." Forrix replied
"Thanks, as I had to learn pretty quickly that no matter where your enemy is strongest at. That they will always have a weakness you can crack open…They fortify their walls, then you dive deep and attack them from below, they have bunkers sturdier than a Tetramand, you air-strike the place and bury them in rubble. If they wall themselves off on an island, then you get a navy ready, and you set up a blockade to just lay waste to them, so they can't get any resources or reinforcements…Bottom line, there is no such thing as an impenetrable wall; every set of armor has a crack you get in-between, it's just a matter of finding where it is." Ben said back in regards to one of the tenets of his own combat doctrine
"If you were born in this millenia, you would have the makings of a damn good Iron Warrior. Thinking like that and a skill-set like yours would have you rising through the ranks swifter than most." Forrix spoke in rather liking Ben's mindset
"It's nothing, I just know that no defense is ever really 'ironclad', or impenetrable, or some other 3rd thing. It is why as much as I respect Dorn and her Imperial Fists for being great at defense. I'll say it right now that give it enough time, you can break down any wall or barrier no matter how well put together, its all a matter of patience and having enough firepower to get it done." Ben replied with a smile that came from years of personal experience of breaking down barriers of all sorts
"Careful, Tennyson. If one of those yellow-clad bastards heard that, they would burst a blood vessel." Forrix jokingly chided the Ultimatrix wielder
"If they want to get uptight, because I can break through their defenses in a matter of hours and or days. Then maybe they just need to step their game up." Ben responded with a shrug
"With your help we just might make them green with envy yet." Forrix spoke
"That being said, other than the idea for utilizing drills and subterrean warfare into our combat strategies. I would like to revisit the idea; for building these Zords you spoke with Lady Perturabo about…Having these weapons would prove advantageous to have overall." Forrix further spoke
"Oh yeah, you were wanting to get a set of zords set up for the Trident right?" Ben asked
"Correct. I believe that it would serve us well to have such potent war-machines in our arsenal. Given that our positions as her trusted advisers and the most skilled Warsmiths of the 4th Legion, I see it necessary for us to have weaponry to match." Forrix answered back
"Hey, I'm all for getting it done. The question is what type do you want yours to be? Because I know that you want it to focus on your guys's specialty sieges and breaking enemy lines." Ben asked
"Indeed, and as such I would like for mine to be some form of aircraft. This way I can implement something I have been longing to attempt with the 4th, but never the chance to do so."
"You wanna get your hands dirty in doing air raids?" Ben questioned with a intrigued as Forrix nodded
"Indeed, I believe that it is not enough to simply break through the fortifications of our enemies on the ground. We must be aggressive on all fronts, be it land, sky or even the sea itself if possible. That if we are to better wage sieges, that we must take the fight to our enemy and make it so that they must fight us on all avenues possible. This way we can better focus our attacks to breaking them down at a pace they cannot match, and in doing so theoretically expedite the process it takes to overcome an enemy." Forrix answered back
With the senior Iron Warrior believing that if they implemented aerial assaults alongside Ben's idea for subterranean attacks on enemy defenses to destroy them from within, then the process of fighting sieges would be accelerated greatly. For Forrix fully believed that if they took a more aggressive approach in regards to siegecraft and made it so that they took the fight to their enemy and smothered them with relentless bombardments and assaults from all sides that they would eviscerate their opposition at a far quicker rate.
"Hey, I am all for it, Mr. Forrix. I'm as much of a fan of taking the fight to somebody as anyone. So if you can make it sound good enough to work for Perturabo, then I'm here for it." Ben replied
"I hope that you will assist in making my case for more aggressive tactics, Tennyson. Your affinity for the unconventional is just what is needed to evolve the combat doctrine of the 4th to something greater." Forrix said back
"Sure why not, besides if it wins battles faster for you guys. Then all I can say is…let's get it done." Ben spoke to the Warsmith
"Good, and now then in regards to my Zord as you call it. I would like the focus for it to be on firepower and defense above all. I do not need it to be overwhelming in terms of speed, I will let the likes of the 5th handle that. Instead, all that matters is that it will offer both powerful armaments to decimate our enemies from above. In addition to defenses to make sure that my bombardments are an assured strike against our enemies." Forrix requested in regards to what he wanted the focus of his zord to be
"That works more than fine for what we can get down too. Just expect for it to take a beating during air-strikes, but other than it being a bit of a bitch to maneuver; you should be good to go." Ben spoke in already formulating how to go about the construction of Forrix's zord
"All that matters is that our opposition is punished far more than they can handle...Now then I feel as though the next best place to go from here, is how to about weapons arrays and targeting systems." Forrix replied
"Sounds good to me. So let's start with the missiles and bombs this sucker is gonna launch at people. Because from what it sounds like, we're making you a bomber jet and a thick boy at that." Ben said back as he cracked his knuckles and moved over towards a fresh new hologram to work on constructing the zord in question
"Agreed…I have a few ideas one of which involves Melta's and Plasma weaponry. I heard from Lady Perturabo that you had a strong affinity for such weapons." Forrix spoke to Ben who cracked a smile
"She's not wrong, you know…So with that being said, let's discuss some weapon ideas that I think you just might like." Ben replied as the two began to further discuss not only the building of Forrix's zord but also implementing plasma-based weaponry and other means of implementing underground assaults and urban warfare tactics into sieges
(The next day, Imperial Palace, December 5th, 950, M30, 1:10 Pm)
Meanwhile, in the day to follow Ben was currently talking with none other than Abbadon and Tarik Torgaddon, wherein Ben had to admit that he found himself in rather likeminded company with the members of the Mournival; with Tarik rather liking the Ultimatrix's joking light-hearted mood and Abaddon in respect for his favor for aggressive tactics.
"So let me get this straight, Tennyson. You had the ceramite balls to prank the fucking Lioness and get away with it?" Tarik Torgaddon asked the Ultimatrix wielder
"Yup, and I'd do it again if she wants to play fuck around and find out. I don't care if she's a Matriarch or whatever you call her. It doesn't mean she can't one pulled on her." Ben answered back as Tarik couldn't help but full-belly guffaw at Ben's boldness and Abbadon chuckling in respect of it
"I'll give you credit and then some, you are a brave bastard and a half. Better yet, if you are gonna have the stones to do that shit again against the Lioness, then you can count me in…To prank one of Lady Sekhmet's sisters and live to tell the tale, now that would make me a living legend in the Legion., and even the Astartes for one." Tarik Torgaddon spoke down to help Ben with a prank at any given time
"Hey, if you wanna workshop something then I'm all for it...To be honest, she looks like she can still get taken down a few dozen pegs." The Ultimatrix wielder responded with a grin that was matched by the joker of the Mournival
"I like the way you think." Tarik Targaddon said back with a wolfish grin on his face
"If the two of you are caught and are chased down by a wrathful El'Jonson. Then I do not want any part of it…that being said I wish the best in your suicide mission against the Lioness." Abbadon spoke with a mild smirk
"Oh come on Abby, I'm sure that the Lioness can take a joke." Tarik Torgaddon said to the hulking giant of an Astartes
"Yes, and I can bench-press a Warlord Titan one-handed." Abbaddon spoke back before giving a light 'slap' upside the prankster's head
"Owww! What was that for?!" Tarik Torgaddon asked rubbing the back of his head
"You know why, I told you to not call me that nickname, Torgaddon. Continue to do so, and you will be given more than the back of my hand to your skull." Abbadon answered back his arms folded as he looked down at the smaller Astartes
"Oh come on, I was just giving you a bit of grief of all. Besides, what's a bit of friendly banter between comrades? Especially with our newest one yet." Tarik Torgaddon spoke with a wide smile
"...I will give you grace on that one, Torgaddon." Abbadon spoke as he once again turned his piercing gaze towards Ben
"Tell me, Tennyson. Now that you are going to join not just the Luna Wolves but the Legions at large in the Great Crusade. I do have to ask, how much are you willing to get your hands dirty?" Abbadon questioned the Ultimatrix wielder
"That all depends, how dirty am I allowed to make it? Because I am willing to escalate things as far as their needed. So I just need to know how far I need to ramp things up to get it done." Ben answered back
"Are you willing to wipe out entire cities with a civilian populace to get things done? Are you willing to shred through miles of populated warzones, and most hive cities to get to our target objective?" Abbadon questioned Ben once more
"To all of that yes. I may be from the 21st century, but I can still get it done no matter what." Ben told the towering Astartes
"I have been in 3 wars and in those 3 wars I've had to do a lot of things I'm not proud of. But I did all of that to make sure that the greatest amount of good can and would be done. So if I have to light a city up like a Roman candle to make sure that everyone planetside can live; then so be it. Because what matters most is saving the most lives possible and if I have to crack a nation or two in half to have that done then let's gear up and do it." Ben further spoke with a grim resolve that came from him having to do what was needed to save worlds in abundance…things that cost him many a sleepless night over the years
"Very well then, in that case, I look forward to fighting with you on the battlefield. Perhaps, I will get to see what our Matriarch and her sisters see in you." Abbadon spoke
"Same to you, you big bastard…Sorry, it's just…what the hell do they feed you?!" Ben said as he looked up at the massive 8-foot-plus-tall Astartes
"We've been wondering the same thing for years…it is one of the Imperium's greatest mysteries." Torek Torgaddon replied
"Has anyone figured it out?" Ben questioned the joker of the Mournival
"If we have, it is something that either the Emperor or the Lupercal herself knows." Torek Torgaddon answered back
"My height aside, I have heard from Sekhmet herself that you are a skilled weapons maker. Is that the truth, Tennyson?" Abbadon spoke
"Yep, I'm pretty decent at it. Why, do you want me to make you guys some?" Ben asked the hulking Astartes before him
"Correct, I have yet to find a weapon that suits my needs and desire to bring down punishment onto my enemies. That is why I want you to make me a weapon that can do just that." Abbadon requested of the Ultimatrix wielder
"Wait we're getting new weapons?! I want some made too, Tennyson! Come on, help a Space Marine out." Torik Torgaddon wondered
"Hey, I'm down for making weapons for you guys. That being said, we're gonna need to workshop how we're doing this…So who going first, I'm gonna need time and a half to get this done." Ben said to the two Space Marines
"I'm going up first Abbaddon, I already know what I want mine to be. Finally, I get to have the most awesome-looking weapons in the Luna Wolves!" Tarik Torgaddon spoke in already knowing what he wanted for his custom weapons
"That's fine by me. Are you going to be good with Tarik here going before you, Abbadon?" Ben replied
"What matters is that our new weapons are made and made well, Tennyson. If it means that I must to wait so that it can be completed, then so be it." Abbadon said back
"Alright, then. So let's get to it, Tarik. Now then, how're we gonna do this." Ben said to Tarik who had an impish grin on his face
From there the next 2 hours were spent discussing weapon ideas with both Abbadon and Torik as well as getting to better know both of the Luna Wolves Astartes, which went better than he thought; given that while he managed to hit things off with Torik who seemed like a ball of fun to be around, Abbadon while seeming to mean well was very much intense in a well-meaning sort. That being said the rest of his afternoon he spent venturing forth across the Imperial Palace, the Ultimatrix wielder taking in the sights around him for all that it was worth, and even in his short time within Holy Terra; the massive expanse of it all never ceased to amaze him.
It would be when he was met by the massive form the Salamanders Matriarch; Hestia who unlike her sisters that stood somewhere between 9 and 10 feet tall, that she stood at a staggering 11 feet tall which had the Ultimatrix wielder looking up at the absolute titan of a woman. However, despite her terrifying appearance that he found himself surprised by not only how nice she was, but that she also shared his love for crafting and making armor and weaponry as well.
"So you made all of your weapons and armor from scratch?" Ben asked the towering woman
"Yes, everything that I make from my Thunder Hammer, to my armor, and even the gifts that I make for my sisters. I make it all with my own two hands over the flames of the forge and my smithing tools." Hestia answered back happy to talk with someone over crafting
"That is amazing, and maybe if I ever get the additional free time, we can talk shop on weapons making. I may not be a demigod at the stuff like you, Perturabo, Dorn, and so on and so forth. But I would still love to see how you do it sometime." Ben said to the massive Matriarch
"That sounds wonderful! I am always happy to have someone work alongside or with me at my forges…Perhaps if time will allow it, I can show you my home planet of Nocturne. It may not be as grand as Terra, but it has its own charm that makes it no less special!" Hestia replied ecstactc to have anyone come to work at her forge
"Sure, that sounds like a great idea. I just have to ask will I need to wear or bring any protective gear while I'm there? I don't know what its' like down there, but I just want to be safe than sorry." Ben questioned
"You should be perfectly fine there. Although, I would be careful around some of the wildlife there…that and our volcanoes that can become rather explosive at times. Other than that, you should be perfectly fine." Hestia answered back in not really seeing much dangers on her homeworld that should be much of a problem for him
"Alright, I will take your word for it. That also reminds me, would you mind helping me work on something or rather two somethings?" Ben asked of the Salamanders Matriarch
"What would you like me to help you with?" Hestia asked back
"Well, I have been working on designing a new set of armor for Mortarion, and I really want to make it special for them. So I was thinking that if you were up for up for it. That you wouldn't mind helping me if it isn't too much trouble." Ben requested of the towering giant
"I would be happy too, Tennyson. Tell me what do you have in mind so far?" Hestia questioned as Ben went into the messenger bag that Konstance had sewn for him during their journey to Terra
"Alright, what I've got so far is for Mortarion, I'm working on a set of armor that's going to amp up her ability to take a punch. Since I know that out of all of you she's known for being the tankiest out of all of you. So I figured why not take that a step forward and give her something that will let her be a total juggernaut." Ben answered back as he pulled out the holographic projector to show the W.I.P of Mortarions new armor
"I took the idea of what you guys call your Terminator's and took a step further. So she'll have heavy-duty armor that has baked in force-fields, redundant life-support systems, interlocking armor plates that can let her withstand an artillery barrage and keep going. Alongside a few other things that'll let her keep the fight going and pretty much power through just about anything." Ben spoke as the projection showed what looked like what if her Barbaran Plate did a Fusion dance with the Hulbuster Iron Man Armor
"That is quite impressive, but how are you going to account for the reduction in speed she will face when wearing it? It may offer her considerable amounts of protection while wearing it, but it still needs to be mobile." Hestia asked the Ultimatrix wielder as she looked at what was more akin to a heavily armored grim reaper than a suit of armor
"Well, I was thinking about putting in a set of thrusters in the legs and back to allow for bursts of high-speed movement. This way she can compensate the heavy-duty amount of armor by moving as fast as needed. In the times I've talked with her about designing it, she said that as long as she can move decently in it, and from point A to point B, then she was alright with it." Ben answered back as she showed the lower legs of the armor split apart to reveal a set of thrusters
"I would say streamline the armor so that it will be mobile enough to compensate for how massive this is going to be. Other than that I think she will appreciate being able to better endure the punishment that comes her way…Although, I do have to ask what is this that you have planned for her Scythe?' Hestia questioned in seeing a modified version of Silence in the hologram
"Oh that, I was planning on augmenting her scythe with some tech that a friend of mine; made happen. If I can swing it into being feasible with your help, then I'll be able ramp things up for her to a whole other level." Ben said in having been working on integrating Repulsor tech into her Power Scythe
"Would you mind sharing what you're going to attempt to install into her scythe? If I know what you intend to combine it with, then we would have a better chance at integrating it with Silence." Hestia asked
"I'm still figuring out how compatible it is with weapons like hers, so I'm holding off on it for now. But maybe at a later date." Ben said in still wanting to run the numbers on how Repulsor technology would work with Power Weapons before going forward
"I will give you credit where it is due, you are a ambitious craftsmen. This is going to take a considerable amount of time to complete, but I have no doubts that it will turn out fantastic nonetheless!" Was the chipper response of Hestia
"Thanks, and I know its gonna be a work in progress for sure. But I know it'll be worth it in the long run…I can just feel it." Ben said hopeful for what was one the ever expanding list of projects on his plate
"Of course, Tennyson. You are offering to aid us as needed, so the very least we can do is return the favor." Hestia said back with a gentle smile
"I just hope I can help get this Great Crusade business done. That Emperor guy told me about it and while it is still intense, I understand why it has to get done. So anyway I can pitch in, I'm ready to help give the assist." Ben spoke to the Salamanders Matriarch
"And I hope that I will see you aid us yet for the better." Hestia replied as the two continued to discuss and borderline nerd out over weapons-making and smithing
(3 days later, 11:13 Am, Imperial Palace, 950. M30, December 8th)
All the while, as the days of December continued onwards, Ben would find himself in the company of the Master of Mankind who wanted to talk and discuss things with him, namely in the way of ideals and his feelings on the Great Crusade as a whole.
"Tell me something Benjamin. What do you think of the Great Crusade overall? I know that you agree with the intentions behind it, but I know that with what you once were as a galactic war-hero of your time. That you may have your differences regarding it as well." The Emperor asked the Ultimatrix wielder
"Look, I won't sugarcoat it, when I say that the whole conquering planets thing isn't something; I'm a hundred percent for. Being a conqueror isn't really my thing. If you need a shapeshifting superhero, someone who can make you some top of the line tech and weapons, and a few other things I can list off. Then I'm your man for anything under the sun. But galactic conquest…that isn't in me as something I'm gung-ho about." Ben responded to the towering leader of the Imperium of Man
"On the flipside of that coin, I understand why you have to do it. Especially with humanity being scattered across the stars, and with potentially killer aliens out there, on top of these Chaos Gods…I can see why you have to get everyone under one umbrella." Ben further spoke in seeing why the need to bring humanity under a united front was needed
"I am glad that you can see why I am doing this, even if you do not fully agree with it. You must understand that everything I am doing, every cruelty enacted, all of it…It is to ensure that humanity can be united against all that is to come. After the horrors of the Age of Strife and Old Night, and what we have had to reclaim thus far; I have had to do things that have forced my hand into doing many a horrible thing to systems uncountable. Things that while repugnant are a necessary evil in order to ensure peace and stability for the future." The Master of Mankind told Ben in having had to do things over the millenia that had put his morals and ethics through the meatgrinder
"I understand all too well about doing necessary evils. There are some things out there, things that I had to get rid of that if I didn't…then it would've been a nightmare for everyone. As a result there are star systems that are missing a few suns and a handful of planets." Ben spoke knowing that to get rid of the greater evils of his time he had to do things that would sicken his younger self to no end
"Then it seems as though we can agree on the sentiment of doing what is needed to ensure peace is brought to the galaxy at large." The Emperor responded
"That does bring up something that I wanted to say to you; about this whole Great Crusade business." Ben said to the much larger man who looked curiously at the much younger man
"One of the main things is what exactly are you going to do once it is over? Because I don't want to burst your bubble or anything, but even if you do get humanity under one roof more or less. There is still Chaos, these Necron things I overheard Perturabo and Sekhmet talking about. On top of things from other galaxies that may come knocking on your doorstep. So I don't know if it's rude to ask this, but what is your game plan for all of that?" Ben asked the colossus of a man
"I have plans of my own to handle the Necrons in the near future. The plans to do so, can be potentially expedited with your help regarding your ability to craft technology and arms matching humanity's apex… Those contingencies and plans can be made to hold off whatever tomb worlds awaken that may house them in their slumber." The Master of Mankind spoke in knowing that sooner or later the Necrons would need to be dealt with
"And what about these Chaos Gods? After dealing with one of them, I doubt that the other 3 are just gonna politely wait around for you to finish things." Ben questioned knowing that if Khorne was anything to go by that the others were going to be equally if not moreso intense
"That is a complicated subject to approach given the nature of the Ruinous Powers." The Emperor replied
"Understand that these entities are not something that can be killed with Bolters, Lasguns, or even the mightiest of Titans…Even my daughters as strong as they may be are not equipped nor strong enough to contend against them one on one. They are beings of the metaphysical, that seek to bring ruin and annihilation wherever they tread, and it has not been for a lack of trying that I say they cannot be killed." The Emperor further spoke
"Yeah, that figures when one of them just talking to me in my dreams; makes it feel like I got ran over by a space station…Even now my blood still feels like it is on fire from being near that Khorne guy." Ben responded in still feeling the phantom effects of the Blood God contactng him
"If it is any consolation, Tennyson. Your mental fortitude is far stronger than most humans. Normally a regular person would go completely insane from sustained contact from one of the 4. So my commendments to the strength of your will." The Emperor said back in acknowledgement of Ben's incredibly strong willpower
"You don't live through what I've had to put up with over the years. Then not have an off the walls level of willpower...It's pretty much a given that I have to make my mind a steel trap." Ben said to the giant of a ruler
"Still, is there anything that you or your Imperium have to beat these guys? Because I know that we can handle their goons no problem, that's nothing to lose sleep over. But whatever these 4 want, that is a different story and if there is anything you've got that can counter them, you're gonna need it in spades." Ben further spoke to the ruler of the Imperium
"There are very few things that I have at my disposal that can truly harm them. What I do have to counter them isn't something that can be easily or readily made en masse." The Emperor said to the Ultimatrix wielder
"That is also fair…and on a side-track you could call it. I want to say to you right now; that you may want to make sure that things are up to date with everyone. Especially with your daughters and their Legions." Ben told the giant
"Why do you say that, Tennyson?" The Master of Mankind queried
"That would be because; those 4 are going to look for champions to turn things in their favor. Much like any big bad from a comic book or t.v show my day would do; for having heavy-hitters. What better champs to have than 4 out of the 18 demigods and their own personal armies that lead your empire…I'm not saying that any of them are at risk of going dark side, but I would say that keeping an eye on what goes on in their Legions would definitely be a good idea." Ben answered knowing that the 4 Ruinous Powers would eventually start headhunting for champions of their own
"I won't lie when I say that you do bring up a compelling point of worry. It is not outside the realm of possibility that they my daughters would be targets for the 4." The Emperor said in understanding of Ben's point made
"Yeah, and that's why I'm putting this out there as a suggestion. Have an eye or two on the people in their Legions just in case…So far your daughters seem like really good people, but that being said Mr. Emperor. Even if everything is fine on the outside, there may be a rotten egg or two in the mix, just lurking around. Which is why, if you don't get a watch out for it; then they just might start making the rest of the batch go bad." Ben further spoke as the Emperor gave an approving nod at this line of thought
"Wise words, Tennyson. I will speak with Malcador on having a few nodes of surveillance put forth into some of the Legions. The last thing I need are any of the Legions falling to their clutches, because of one corrupted wretch." The Emperor said back
"Thanks, I have my moments." Ben said with a small smirk
"Undoubtedly so, given the changes you have begun to affect in my daughters. Which brings me to a point of my own. One that concerns them overall." The Emperor spoke
"Look if this is about, Konstance. I just want to put it out there, that I am not trying to be a dirtbag about what we have going on. I just think she's a sweetheart is all…how we got to being on dating terms more or less is something I still can't explain." Ben replied
"While Konstnace does factor into this, I am speaking of the fact that you are one man. A man that while talented and skilled beyond most in my Imperium, are still one man nonetheless…Someone who is potentially spreading themselves too thin as it were to help improve things as they stand." The Emperor said back
"I can handle doing it just fine, as multitasking and making sure everyone gets what is needed. That's not the issue, since I can make sure they get equipped with anything just fine...The issue would be a matter of getting where I'm needed to who needs me the most." Ben said in full admittance that even with all of his transformations and skills in tech that he was still a man
"And while it is something that I applaud you for, all things considered...in terms of assisting and attempting to do so for the betterment of not only the Legions at large…That you also do this to improve things for my Imperium, that I have decided to make things easier for you going forward." The Emperor replied
"Wait really?" Ben questioned
"Yes, as understand that you are by far an extremely powerful piece on the proverbial board. One that while multi-faceted in what it can accomplish, is limited by the factor of their being only one. Therefore, I will see to it that you have a team at your disposal to help you aid the Legions as needed. Your abilities and skills shall not suffer under my watch because you have spread yourself too thin, and as such in that regard. You will officially have my backing and support to do what is needed." The Emperor told Ben who looked semi-confused by this generosity
"Thanks, but I'm a bit confused by you being this 'nice' I want to say…No offense to you, but it just feels like there's strings attached to all of this. That is why I gotta ask, what's the catch?" Ben questioned
"The only 'catch' to any of this is that what you will be doing; will have you answering directly to me. Other than that anything you do will be acting on my authority with my oversight on the matter. Other than that you will have free reign to do as needed to assist my daughters and their Legions. In addition, I will aid you in getting to my daughters as needed be it to aid them or for…personal matters as you've developed with Konstance and I assume with Fulgrim and Perturabo by how close you have grown to them." The Emperor answered back in regards to things on his end
"I'm not gonna lie, that is a damn good deal even with all those strings attached...Hell, I can't think of a better way to cut it." Ben said surprised by how relatively positive it was
'Not to mention, its; going to help me big time; by making sure I can get to where I'm needed a.s.a.p.' Were the Ultimatrix wielder's thoughts
"So I can assume that you will accept this deal?" The Master of Mankind questioned
"We have a deal, but on the condition that nothing I make be used against your daughters. Not unless it is for certain known that they've gone rogue, have gone darkside to these Chaos Gods, or some other 3rd thing…As long as we have that condition in play we are golden." Ben responded but not before inputting his one sole condition on the matter
"That is not a problem at all, Tennyson." The Emperor spoke
"Great, and one other thing that I want to do in the future, once I start hitting my stride…I want to eventually form a little something to help deal with aliens. Especially since handling them is sort of my thing." Ben replied
"What exactly do you have in mind?" The Emperor questioned
"That depends, how much time do you have to listen? Because if this can go well, I think I might have a way to help deal with aliens across the board. On the best-case scenario, there won't be a need to exterminate them wholesale. Then on the otherside of it, you at least have a way to study, counter, and contain them, in case things get rough." Ben answered back to a now intrigued Master of Mankind
"Now you have my attention….Proceed with this idea of yours, Tennyson." The Emperor spoke as Ben began to dive into his idea for his squadron of handling Xenos related matters
(The next night, 11:20 Pm, Holy Terra, December 9th, M30. 950)
Meanwhile, Ben after having a movie night with Konstance who was very much elated to spend time with her beloved in the Ultimatrix wielder, was visited upon by Branwen Corax with a request.
"Wait a sec, you want me to join you and your guys on a mission?" Ben asked of the towering Matriarch
"Yes, I was informed that an Imperial World has been taken over by hostile Xenos. They have taken over the capital of said planet and have enslaved the majority of those within it. As such the Emperor has deemed it necessary for the 19th Legion to handle the issue, and make sure it is done as quickly and quietly as possible." Branwen Corax informed the Ultimatrix wielder
"That sounds great and all, and I am down to help with a revolution and all. But I gotta ask, where am I gonna fit into all of this? Last time I checked, I'm not exactly the built for stealth type of guy." Ben questioned in wondering how he would fit into a legion based around stealth and assassination
"I will agree that you are not someone who is specialized in the art of stealth and attacking from the shadows…At least not as well as my sons and I are equipped in doing so. However, you more than make up for it by being great at shock-and-awe. Therefore, you will be perfect as our wildcard to help make sure that the planets liberation will be a swift one." Branwen Corax said to him
"I can work just fine with being your battering ram, all-around distraction, and whatever else you need…As a matter of fact, I do have a few plays that can work with some of my aliens; to get your guys in if you're up for it." Ben told The Lady of Ravens
"If it will not cause an unnecessary amount of civilian casualties, then I am in full support it. What matters most is that we not only help free the planet from its oppressors, but do so as quickly as possible. The more that we linger, the more lives are put at risk and I refuse to let any innocent lives be put in danger. Not when I can silence them at a moments notice before any of those monsters can see it coming." Branwen Corax stated her coal black eyes burning with a fierce resolve
"Then let's get it done then. All I need to know is how much time I'm going to need to gear up and plan things out." Ben said to the leader of the 19th
"We will be departing within 2 weeks time. After that, we will be making our departure towards our mission objective." Branwen Corax informed the shorter man
"That sounds like a decent chunk of time, to get everything settled…Finally, I'm gonna be able to get back in the mix! This should be something else." Ben said almost excited if not ecstatic to get back out in the field again
"I hope that you will be able to keep this same energy once things begin. This is going to be your first steps; into seeing what the Great Crusade is like, Ben. From this point onwards things will become far more difficult." The Lady of Ravens told the Ultimatrix wielder
"The Emperor told me how fucked things are going to get, so I know the risks. But none of that means I'm going anywhere, its' time for us to step up and be heroes, so let's get it done, Branwen." Ben said as a smile crept upon the pale-faced woman's face
"Agreed, Ben. I believe it is as you would say, Hero Time." Branwen Corax said back as Ben couldn't help but grin at hearing those words
"You sure know how to get a person hyped. Now let's get started on figuring out how we're doing things. We've got 10 days worth of prep time, and I am making the most of it." Ben said as he and Branwen began to walk and talk on how to get things started
That being said, whilst Ben and Branwen were talking over how they were going to liberate an Imperial World from its Xenos oppressors, back in Universe 10, Gwen was currently grading papers for the finals of winter semester for her classes; while Kevin was currently helping their teenage son build his first car. However, as she was in the midst of doing so, Gwen was subsequently jump-scared out of her chair by the sudden appearance of one Professor Paradox who had a bit of a laugh to himself at startling the sorceress supreme of Earth.
"Was scaring me nearly half to death really neccessary, Paradox?" Gwen asked as she clambered back onto her chair
"Apologies, Gwendolyn, for not calling ahead of time for a friendly visit. However, I believe I have finally made a breakthrough in the search for your cousin." Professor Paradox responded to the sorcerer whose full attention was toward him
"You mean that you have actually found where Ben is? That's great, where is he?!" Gwen asked excitedly
"That my dear is both the issue and solution to where he is, or rather when he is." Professor Paradox replied with his expression turning more wearisome
"For you see, it turns out that Benjamin wasn't simply thrown across space and time to another universe. It also appears that he was thrown into another timeline altogether. Something that makes tracking where he has landed within this universe very difficult, and in fact far more difficult than most." Professor Paradox told the redhaired sorceress
"How much more difficult can it be to track Ben down? What's different about the universe he's trapped in that makes it hard to pinpoint where or when he is?" Gwen questioned further
"It is moreso that the universe that he has found himself in, operates on a completely separate set of rules. A set of rules with occupants that makes coming into and out of that universe very dangerous to set foot in. Much less stay apart of for long periods of time." Professor Paradox answered back
"It sounds like you are speaking from personal experience?...Have you been to where Ben is trapped before?" Gwen asked the multiversal time-traveler
"Yes, a small handful of times actually. During my adventures across the endless universes of the cosmic fabric of reality, I have ventured to many dangerous places, places I seldom set foot in. Those worlds are dangerous so much so because their occupants are a threat to things on such a scale that I found myself lucky I wasn't torn apart on a subatomic scale…Even then such a thing would be preferable to the dark fates that could befall someone in that universe." Professor Paradox informed the redheaded sorcerer in regards to the cosmic dangers of said universe
"I didn't think you would find another one like that, Paradox. Especially after the one where I went power crazy and turned into a evil god of magic." Gwen said in remembering that particular adventure
"Yes, it is actually one of the few times where I am glad Benjamin used Alien X. That universe among many others where either of or both of you 'broke bad' as the kids these days say, are better left kept that way." Professor Paradox responded knowing that that universe among many others were better left untouched
"Yeah, and honestly I am glad that we have it that way. That 'field trip' still gives me nightmares to this day." Gwen said back in seeing that adventure among others as a cautionary tale regarding her magic
"Even still, Gwendolyn. The place that Benjamin finds himself now a part of, is one of eternal war. Granted, I believe to the fullest that he will very well thrive there; given his disposition as a man of action. However, this comes at the cost of him walking the fine line he has always found himself walking; since he began his tenure as a hero. Even more so once he not only obtained the Ultimatrix, but with Albedo's help; in perfecting it." Professor Paradox spoke
"I am sure that you of all people know that Benjamin is prone to wrath; when left to his own devices…Something that over the years, you, Kevin and those before and after the Chimera War have become well acquainted with." Professor Paradox further spoke
"Ben always did have anger issues…don't get me wrong I love Ben and he will always be like a second brother to me. It's just that the things I have seen him do when he gets angry, and I mean really angry are terrifying. The Anur System is still recovering from what he did to take down Z'Skayr, not to mention that even with all of our diplomacy work over the years, I don't think that the systems under Vilgax's rule will ever recover. The Chimera War was the angriest I ever saw Ben and the fact that he went on a genocide run to kill Vilgax for good…the countless planets he led to be snuffed out, out of sheer spite against him. That war pulled out the worst in my cousin." Gwen said in reflection of the years she spent fighting alongside Ben in the Chimera War
Wherein the redheaded sorcerer while always being one to fight alongside her cousin and stand ten-toes deep in the worst of it, had also during that time saw that he had become the most wrathful, spite-filled, and vengeful version of himself during that time. The weapons he constructed, the relentless attacks on cities turned to glassed-over ruins, to him having scorched entire planets down to extinction to kill Vilgax and his soldiers…it saw the worst of her cousin be pulled to the forefront.
It was why in the aftermath of it all, she could still remember the rage and anger that came from him, and that while he still acted as a hero to save and protect lives, that the Chimera War also had him crossover into becoming a full-fledged destroyer of worlds to the point where even if he didn't get slingshotted to wherever he was now. That Gwen could say that with the numerous atrocities he had to commit to turn things in their tide that, Ben was discussing a hiatus if not retirement from being a Hero and within the Plumbers from the amount of war-crimes and heinous deeds committed.
"I will not lie when I say that dreaded war brought out the darkest parts in everyone. Even now it feels as though Vilgax even in death had the final laugh. Those truly were dark times to persevere through." Professor Paradox responded
"That is the understatement of the year, Paradox…I am just glad that its behind me now, and that I can focus on raising Devlin and working as a teacher." Gwen said back
"Indeed, and your son is becoming quite the strapping young man? How old is he now 15, 16 perhaps?" Professor Paradox queried
"He will be 17 next month. Honestly, it feels like time has flown right past me most days, I still can't believe that next year my little boy will be a young man…Where does it all go?" Gwen said still in disbelief that her son was going to be an adult in what felt like the blink of an eye
"I could answer that, but I feel as though it would become semantics given my expertise." Professor Paradox spoke
"But that being said, and shifting things back towards our original topic. Getting to Benjamin while not impossible is incredibly dangerous, and that isn't even accounting for the time period he has landed in." Professor Paradox further spoke knowing that the journey would be rife with peril
"I understand, if you are able to I would appreciate it, but if it is as dangerous as you say. Then I won't force your hand." Gwen said back in understanding of where the time traveling immortal was coming from
"I will see what I can do about making a trip in the near , if I do this for you Gwendolyn, I will request that a hospital room be made ready for me. The last time I visited the universe where your cousin now resides, the occupants suffice to say were not very pleasant. Interested in my presence, yes, but pleasant company…let's just say that one of them in particular is a very abhorrent gardener and leave it at that." Professor Paradox spoke in still having chills from one of his adventures leading to that abhorrent plague-infested swamp that could be called a 'garden''
"Thank you, Paradox. I appreciate it, when you and if you get the chance." Gwen said
"Of course, and as always with my visits no matter the brevity. Remember to be kind to yourself Gwendolyn, despite everything you have gone through these past few years closing into a decade. You have done exceptional for yourself; when most others would have crumbled. For that I commend you as an outstanding person." Professor Paradox replied with a smile that gave rise to one on Gwen's own
"Thanks, it hasn't been easy, but I am doing the best that I can." Gwen said back
"And that much I will applaud you for." Professor Paradox spoke
"Nonetheless, I will take my leave and prepare for a potential trip to make contact with Benjamin. If all goes accordingly, I may be able to make a jump to him unscathed." Professor Paradox added before disappearing in a burst of chronal energy
'Wherever you are Ben, I just hope you aren't in too much trouble. Then again, knowing you, you have probably already dove headfirst into something…Good luck and godspeed doofus, I miss you.' Were Gwen's thoughts regarding when or where her wayward cousin was
And so as Ben continues to get to know those within the various Legions of the Adeptus Astartes as well as strike a worthwhile deal with the Master of Mankind, we also see Ben sign himself onto his first real-deal mission with Branwen and the 19th; to help liberate an Imperial World from Xenos control. How this will all go for our resident Ultimatrix wielder; is something you will have to wait and see about in the all new installments of, Ultimate Alien: Primarch Force!
Alright, that'll do it for this one, as I hoped that everyone has enjoyed this chapter and everything that went into, because I've got a good feeling about what's coming up next and I hope your ready for it. Hence why, I will also say thank you for everyone who has stuck around this far into the story, and I hope you will continue to do so as we continue into the craziness that is this story.
So with that being said, this is Pravus666 signing off until next time. Wherein our next chapter will see Ben in his first outing into the Great Crusade. In the meantime, stay tuned for all of that good stuff to come.
Part 1 Theme Song: Black out the Sun by Sevendust
Random End Song: Sugarcoat by Breaking Benjamin
Now then onto the reviews of the previous chapter.
KharaBELLA: To the first one, I'll just say that it was enough that Ben got the job done, at the expense of needing a few pounds of Icy-Hot for his pelvis. To the second question, Ben will be interacting with more of the Chaos Gods soon. In fact, I have something planned with Ben and the Iron Warriors that will get Slaanesh's attention onto him.
ex555: When Big E and Malcador find out about Swampfire's abilties, I imagine that they'll have him revive some dead worlds, given that its a nice way for him to come in after a planet gets wrecked and fix it up again. Also, for the next model of Space Marine armor, its gonna take a pretty decent jump in what it can do...Think closer to what the Gravis Armor is like for the current 40K setting on roids.
XxGargantuaxX: That's what I thinking too in regards to if Ben could or would scan a Space Marine and get something out of it. Also, I hope that Professor Paradox's telling Gwen of how he's tracked Ben down answers your question. Since its both a alternate universe and timeline situation if that makes any sense.
smallszay: Yep and Ben will continue to do so in future chapters, its just going to take quite a bit of finagling to do; with the Legions and where everyone is at. Given that there is a lot of ground to cover and Ben will have both no shortage of chances to pitch in, and also make the fun conundrum of which Legions he'll have to pick and choose to help. Also, I will look into Warframes in the future, as I have seen a few clip of them so far and I actualy like what I've seen so far with them (will invest in research into them with future chapters)
