Watchtower

Morning

Chloe was at the computers, making sure everything was up and running when Lois walked up behind her.

"Glad to see you're back…you are back, right?" Lois added uncertainly and Chloe was silent for a moment.

"I don't know. When I put on the helmet…it was like I could see things clearly for the first time in a long time. I don't regret the time I've spent with Clark, helping him become who he was meant to be…but I don't have much to show for it besides a marriage that was broken even before Jimmy died and a career that ended before it really got started," Chloe said with a sigh. "I want more than just to be Clark's sidekick all the time. I want…I want what you and Clark have, a partner, someone who loves me and will stand by me, no matter what."

"Is that why you went to Barry first?" Lois asked and Chloe stiffened. "I remember when you got home from camp all those years ago, you would go on and on about him. You had the biggest crush on him."

"That was a long time ago," Chloe dismissed.

"You sure? Because I see the way you look at him. And I just…I know what it's like to feel a certain way about someone and trying to ignore it," Lois said, thinking about all the time she spent denying how she felt about Clark. "I just want you to be happy, Chlo'."

"I know, Lois, and I appreciate that. But I'm not even sure he feels that way about me," Chloe said with a sigh.

"Only one way to find out," Lois pointed out gently and Chloe was silent for a beat.

"Doesn't matter right now. We need to get to the Brownstone. It's almost time," Chloe said after checking the clock.

The Brownstone

Not long after

Oliver was staring at the picture of Bobbi he kept in his wallet; thinking about what he had seen when Olivia had dropped him in the future. He was so lost in thought; he almost didn't hear someone come up behind him. Almost. But that training never really went away.

"Thinking about her?" Sara asked as she sat down next to him.

"I'm always thinking about her, always trying not to think about her. But more so since…" Oliver trailed off.

"Since your trip through time?" Sara guessed and Oliver nodded. "I still can't believe it. Time travel? Seems like something out a sci-fi show."

"I wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't seen it," Oliver said as he put Bobbi's picture back in his wallet. "I didn't just go to the past…I was shown my future, seven years from now."

"That's…wow. I don't even know what to say that," Sara said in disbelief, taking a moment to process it. "All good, I hope?"

"It was...incredible. I saw myself, I saw Bobbi. She and I were married," Oliver said, still in a bit of disbelief.

"That must have been amazing," Sara said and Oliver chuckled.

"It was…beyond anything I can put into words," Oliver said and paused. "This should feel…weird. Me talking to you about the woman I love."

"It should, but it doesn't. We've been everything from lovers to, for a time, enemies. I just don't have the time to dance around awkwardly with you," Sara said and Oliver laughed.

"Thank you, for that. I needed a laugh," Oliver said and paused. "You talk to Logan yet?"

"So we're back to that, huh?" Sara asked and Oliver shot her a look. "No. Seems like he's got a lot going on, with the whole Justice Society thing."

"That's an excuse. I've told enough of them to recognize one," Oliver pointed out and Sara looked at him flatly. "Logan is always going to wonder about his past, so much was taken from him by Stryker. He could use some good news right now, Sara. Don't let fear hold you back."

Elsewhere in the building, Logan was looking at all the relics of the Justice Society, trying to see if they triggered any memories. They didn't, which frustrated him.

Here was a link to his past, much more recent than Steve Rogers, and yet he still didn't know anything about it.

Silently, Steve walked up beside him, looking down at the relics.

"Do these rings any bells?" Steve asked and Logan shook his head.

"No. They seem…familiar, but it's like a memory that's just out of reach. Just like the last few pieces of my past," Logan said in frustration.

"At least now, you have someone who can point you in the right direction," Steve said, trying to be optimistic.

"Except Hall is lying to me," Logan said in a growl. "He's holding something back, he admitted it."

"Considering what we're about to do, can you really blame him? Your head needs to be in the game, Logan. Can you honestly say it would be if Carter had told you about your past?" Steve asked and Logan mused for a few moments.

"Okay, fair. Doesn't mean I like it," Logan grumbled.

"I'd be worried if you did," Steve said with a slight grin.

Elsewhere, Fury and Charles were playing a game of chess, which Fury had just lost.

"You sure you don't use your powers to cheat?" Fury joked as they reset the board.

"I would never, old friend. I've just had far more practice than you. Erik and I would play often in the early days of the X-Men. I kept up the hobby even after we parted ways," Charles said and it was silent for a moment. "Tell me, what troubles you?"

"That obvious, huh? I'm…wondering how much longer I can keep this secret from him," Fury admitted.

"If you recall, I argued against you keeping it in the first place," Charles pointed out. "He has a right to know. And keeping these sort of secrets has never ended well for you, Nick."

"Maybe you're right. I'll…considering letting him into the loop," Fury said before rising to his feet.

Charles looked after his friend in disappointment as Fury walked out of the room. He knew Fury well enough to know that he would not divulge the secret unless forced to. Charles did not want to betray his friend's trust, but it did not just affect him. After the mission to The Raft, one way or another, Charles would be forced to expose the secret Fury was keeping. Let the chips fall where they may afterwards.

Later that morning, the entire group stood in the conference room, waiting.

"So Clark, when are these friends of yours supposed to get here?" Clint asked, about to take a bite out of an apple.

Only to blink when it was no longer in his hand. Hearing a crunch behind him, Clint turned around to see a young man with blond hair taking a bite out of his apple.

"He got there a few seconds ago," Matt told him as the rest merely stared, Clark and Chloe looking like they were trying not to laugh.

"Really, Bart?" Clark asked and Bart Allen shrugged.

"He asked, I answered Amigo," Bart said before tossing Clint his apple back.

"Everyone, meet Bart Allen. We call him Impulse," Chloe said with a smirk as Barry started.

"Allen? Any relation to Henry Allen?" Barry asked.

"Your guess is as good as mine. I just woke up one day with these powers, a whole bunch of names going around in my head," Bart shrugged.

"Wait a minute, wasn't Barry Allen one of the ID and credit cards you were using when we first met?" Clark remembered and Barry looked at him sharply, remembering an incident several years ago, when his wallet had mysteriously vanished during the day.

"That was you?" Barry asked as he turned to Bart, who looked a little sheepish.

"I woke up with no memories, just a name, these powers and a bunch of random names floating around in my head. Seemed like a good idea at the time to use my powers to get by. I'm not that person anymore," Bart explained.

"Look, I'm not gonna defend what Bart did, but he's one of the good guys now," Clark vouched for Bart.

"We've all had our pasts, no one's gonna judge you here," Clint said with a shrug.

"Look, I'm really sorry. But I'm a different person now," Bart said and Barry stared at him for a long moment before nodding.

"I guess there are worse things than having my wallet stolen. But I'm a lot faster now, so don't think you can try it again," Barry warned him and Bart grinned.

"I think you and I are gonna get along just fine," Bart said.

"Wow," they all looked up as a blond teenage girl walked in, looking around. "You weren't kidding when you said you had a bunch of new allies."

"Courtney, glad you could make it," Clark said and Courtney Whitmore shrugged.

"With everything going on, I was just waiting for you guys to decide to take the fight to Ross and The Accords. Glad to see it finally happening," Courtney said.

"Oh I like her," Lois said with a smile as Courtney looked over at her.

"You must be Lois. Clark talks about you a lot," Courtney said and Lois raised an eyebrow at her boyfriend. "All good things."

"Didn't know you recruited them so young," Fury mentioned to Carter.

"I didn't. By the time I met her, she was already out there in the field. But she's here, and she's part of my team. Deal with it," Carter said bluntly.

"And what are you supposed to be, exactly?" Ororo asked Courtney and a staff suddenly appeared in her hand.

"Stargirl," Courtney said in a tone that left no room for argument.

"I like you," Sara said with a grin.

"I see some things don't change," everyone turned to see a man who appeared to be in his early fifties had stepped into the room. "The Justice Society lives again."

"Indeed it does, old friend," Carter said, a smile breaking out across his face as he walked over to the man. "Thank you for coming, Jay."

"When you told me we were breaking into The Raft and going up against Magneto, I knew I had to step out of retirement. But Joan says she'll have your head if anything happens to me," Jay said and Carter chuckled.

"Fair enough," Carter acknowledged before turning around to face everyone. "This is Jay Garrick, also known as The Flash. He was a founding member of the Justice Society."

"You were called The Flash?" Barry asked in surprise and Jay nodded, looking at the younger man carefully.

"Yes, I was. I hear you've taken up my old mantle," Jay noted.

"I had no idea you even existed. I called myself The Flash because of something a friend of mine said to me after I got my powers," Barry said, glancing over at Oliver before returning to Jay. "I wasn't trying to replace you or anything."

"Don't worry about it, kid. I'm glad someone chose to carry on after me. The world needs a speedster," Jay said before his gaze fell upon Charles, and his smiled widened. "Professor."

"Hello. It is very good to see you," Charles said, a matching smile on his face as he rolled over to Jay, the two shaking hands. "It's been over thirty years. I had always hoped to see you again."

"You two know each other?" Carter asked in surprised as the two seemed to have a silent conversation for a moment before Jay nodded.

"He was an old student of mine, many years ago. Although he didn't go by Jay Garrick back then," Charles said, giving Jay a curious look and the speedster smiled tightly.

"I had to stop Magneto from finding me, we all did. He was never gonna stop looking for me," Jay said, confusing them.

"Why would Magneto be so interested in you?" Rogue asked and Jay looked at her for a long time before sighing.

"Guess there's no point in keeping it a secret any longer. My real name is Peter Maximoff…and Magneto is my father."

Oscorp

Same time

Peter crawled through a vent, stopping once he could see into the office where Norman was talking to the head of the branch.

Norman had been acting suspicious since getting out of the hospital, all hush hush with the executives of Oscorp. Peter had a feeling it was about the Goblin attack, so when he knew Norman was having his next meeting, he'd snuck into the closest vent and was now listening as Norman had a conversation with Howard.

"Your screw up could cost us everything," Norman said coldly.

"But sir-"

"Silence!" Norman shot back and Howard shut up. "Luckily, there's another option. I have…contacts in some circles. A replica of the device is being auctioned on the black market tonight. I will give you the address, and you will go there. Buy it, at any cost."

"Yes, Sir," Howard quickly agreed.

Peter listened for another moment but, not hearing anything useful, he slowly backed out of the vent.

Peter had a bad feeling about this meeting. But, if there was trouble there, then Spider-Man would be there to stop it.

The Brownstone

Not long after

"So, Magneto is your dad? That's…really fucked up," Barry said after a few moments, not able to come up with anything else to say.

"Language," Steve said, out of habit more than anything else.

"He's right though. That's…" Kitty trailed off, not sure how else to say it.

"You're telling me," Jay said dryly.

"Can't believe you never told us," Carter said, in shock at this revelation.

"Sorry, Carter. I wanted to leave my past behind, as much as possible. I ran from Magneto as far as I could," Jay said with a sigh.

"How did Magneto's son end up an X-Men?" Logan wondered and Jay chuckled.

"I could ask the same of you, Captain Terrible," Jay joked and Logan shot him a deadpanned look. "Magneto met my mother a long time ago, before he ever met the Professor. It was very brief, and then he was off. Never even knew about me until I was already an X-Men. I was a kid with super speed, so fast no one could even see me. I got a thrill out of stealing things, things no one could possibly find. That's how the Professor first found me."

"He'd stolen from a friend of mine. He quickly realized it was a mutant and called for my help. I was able to track Peter, as he was called then, to his home," Charles said as he and Jay exchanged a look, Jay laughing slightly.

"I thought for sure he was gonna have me arrested. Instead, he offered to take me to a school with a bunch of people just like me. He wasn't gonna turn me in and I got to feel like less of a freak? How could I refuse?" Jay asked with a laugh.

"I had no idea that he was Erik's son, none of us did until a few years after Erik resurfaced. It was in an…altercation with Erik," Charles said with a grimace.

"He was about to kill another student. I stopped him. I thought for sure he was gonna kill me. But something in my eyes seemed to stop him. Then, he asked for my name. So I told him, and he left. None of us really understood it at the time," Jay said with a heavy sigh.

"A week later, it was at night, the school was attacked. Erik had helped design the defenses; he knew how to get passed them. As quickly as they came, they vanished. Because they had what they wanted," Charles said, looking over at Jay regretfully.

"He had a Telepath, Emma Frost. She shut me down, knocked me out. I woke up on some island, Genosha. Magneto was there. That's when he told me that he was my father," Jay said with a heavy sigh. "Made some big speech about how he wanted us to be a family…as long as we worked together to wipe out the humans, or at least make them our slaves."

"And I'm sure you must have loved that," Logan said dryly and Jay smiled tightly.

"Even without memories, you know me well enough, Jimmy. I refused, and he kept me prisoner. I was in some sort of metal sphere that seemed designed to avoid detection from Cerebro. I was there for months, Magneto hoped he could eventually get me to come around," Jay said and a beat passed, everyone but Charles stunned into shock.

"He knew you were his son and he just…kept you captive like that?" Clark asked in shocked.

"Erik has a great capacity for justifying his actions if he believes that they are for the greater good, even including cruelty to his own children," Charles said, a disappointed look in his eye as he remembered how far his old friend had fallen that day.

"How long were you held captive?" Wanda asked uncertainly and he looked at her face for a long moment, as though searching for something before answering.

"Four Months. I probably would have gone mad or caved to Magneto…but I had someone looking out for me. My sister," Jay said, stunning them all again. "Lorna. She was also Magneto's daughter. She was younger than me; he'd fathered her about three years after he left my mom. He found out about her not long after he parted ways with the Professor. Her mother was murdered by humans when she was five and so he took her in. She was only fifteen when we met. She'd heard that I was her brother, she'd sneak down to my prison and we'd talk. We became brother and sister."

"We'd been looking for Peter for three months when Lorna contacted us," Charles took over, seeing how drained Jay seemed from his story. "She gave us Genosha's location and we headed there as soon as we could. Lorna helped stage a breakout by releasing everyone else Magneto had kept prisoner."

"She helped me to the Black Bird, came with us. We barely escaped with our lives. She left a note for Daddy Dearest, letting him know she wasn't coming back. We stayed at the school for a few weeks, I got my strength back. But I knew I couldn't stay, Magneto would never stop trying to get me to see things his way. So I left. Dyed my head," Jay said, pointing to his dark head of hair. "And changed my name to Jay Garrick."

"And Lorna?" Wanda asked and he smiled at her, which only confused her.

"She stayed at my school for a bit but, as Peter feared, Magneto came for her as well. But she was not so easily captured, he was always sent fleeing. But eventually, she tired of the fights with Magneto. She left as well, changed her name and relocated…to Sokovia," Charles said carefully and Wanda got a stunned look on her face.

"She's in Sokovia?"

"She was," Jay picked up where Charles had left off. "She settled there because she thought it was far enough away from Magneto that he'd never find her there. She fell in love with a man; he was decent enough, although no one would ever be good enough for Lorna in my book. They were happy, from what she told me in her letters. They had two children, a son and a daughter. Twins, in fact. She named her son Pietro, after me. And she named the girl Wanda."

You could hear a pin drop as Wanda stared at Jay slowly processing what she was being told. She was aware of the others saying something but she couldn't really say what it was. Finally, she found her voice.

"You're saying that my mother was-"

"My sister, Lorna. Hello, Niece," Jay said with a kind smile as Wanda tried to process that everything she knew about her family had just been turned on its head.

Yes, this version of Jay Garrick is actually the X-Men Quicksilver. He would be played by Kevin Bacon, thank you to Aragorn II Elessar for his help with the casting.

Hope you all enjoyed the backstory for how he ended up becoming Jay.

Next chapter will be the start of the breakout/ sting, so buckle up, it's about to get wild.
