"Welcome to your life, there's no turning back"
Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears
THE LAST TIME they saw Sevyn was a week ago, and it was starting to get to Paul. Surprisingly, he missed the pink-haired girl. She was interesting and exciting. Maybe a little awkward and mysterious, but entertaining. She liked to have fun with him, and he appreciated that.
A week ago, after she didn't show up back on the boardwalk, they followed her scent from the motel to a little cottage on the beach. It seemed their little thief found a more permanent place to stay. Something about this made him happy. Maybe it was because it meant she was putting down roots.
Every night, after waiting for a while at the boardwalk for any sign of Sevyn, they would go back to her new place and check to see what she was doing. Each time, she was asleep on her bed. He wanted to knock and see if she was okay, but David told them to give her time.
He wasn't sure why David was interested enough to want them to check on her in the first place, but he wasn't going to ask questions. He probably would have been here every night anyway, to stalk her.
Meanwhile, Dwayne had noticed that her scent outside the house was slowly fading, telling him she hadn't left in many days. He was curious about what kept her inside all this time.
David was the last one to see her. He told them everything that happened the night before, including how they spent the evening together. Despite David's temper getting the best of him, he said she seemed fine when he left. Something's off. If she was scared of them, she would have left town by now. This isn't like her. He needed to figure out what it was.
That night, Paul and Dwayne showed up at her place for their nightly check-in when they noticed something different. Tonight, a light was coming from her living room, indicating she was awake for once.
They didn't knock on the front door - how would they explain how they found her when she didn't tell them where she lived? Instead, they circled around the back of the house to see what she was doing. Luckily, she still didn't get any curtains. What they saw, they couldn't explain.
Sevyn was currently holding her stuffed bat and watching the largest TV they'd ever seen, which displayed their faces on the screen. Without a word, the two watched the scene before them for a while, trying their best to understand what they were seeing.
Dwayne called out mentally to his brothers to come and see what they were seeing. It wasn't long before the other two joined him and Paul.
David couldn't make sense of it. It was undeniably him and his brothers on screen, but he didn't recognize the other man in their cave. It wasn't until whatever Sevyn was watching showed the stranger drinking from the bottle that David had enough.
He gripped the door handle and ripped it open with such force that the lock broke. The door slammed open with a bang. Sevyn yelped and jumped in surprise, Bernard falling to the floor. She stared at them in shock before looking between them and the TV.
David knew something was up with this girl, but he wasn't expecting this, whatever this was. How were they on TV? Who the hell was she?
"Boys!" Sevyn exclaimed, her hand darting out to quickly turn off the TV.
Before she could do or say more, David, consumed by rage and confusion, grabbed her by the neck and lifted her off the couch. His face contorted into his vampiric form, and without thinking, he sunk his fangs into her.
Paul lunged forward to stop him, but Marko, wide-eyed with curiosity, held him back. He had no idea what was going on and he wanted to stop David from hurting Sevyn. The smaller vampire had questions, but it seemed like he might not get the chance to ask any.
Before David could drain her completely, Sevyn blinked across the room.
Now the four vampires stood even more stunned. They all stared at Sevyn with various expressions as she stood there before them in a different spot, holding her gaping wound. Her breath was shallow, and her eyes were wide with fear.
"Fuck! That hurt!" she screeched, wincing as she held her hand to the wound. The pink-haired girl was glad she was wearing an old shirt because it was ruined now. "Why would you just attack me?!"
"Talk! What were you watching? What's going on?" David roared, his fury intensifying with his confusion. Sevyn could see this and wisely decided not to provoke him further.
"Okay, I'll talk, just relax," she said, still terrified. This wasn't exactly how she envisioned things going, but David's reaction wasn't a surprise. With a sigh, Sevyn cautiously returned to the couch, all the Lost Boys watching her with equal wariness. She'd just displayed how she evaded them initially, but it explained nothing.
When she turned on the TV, the boys' attention shifted from her to the screen, where they saw themselves jumping off the familiar bridge one by one. Again, they were faced with a stranger they somehow knew on screen.
"What's going on?" Marko's question hung heavy in the air.
"I guess the simplest way to explain things is to be upfront. I'm not from here," Sevyn began, her voice shaky but firm. "I'm from another dimension where you guys, this whole town, exist in a movie from the 80s. When I left my world, it was 2024." It was a simplified explanation, but the truth.
Dwayne grappled with what he saw. It was undeniably him and his brothers, yet he didn't remember the events or the stranger on screen. He tapped into his reservoir of patience, determined to get answers.
"How can we trust you? If you're not from here, how'd you get here?" Dwayne asked, his brow furrowed in confusion.
"Yeah, and what's with the disappearing act? What are you?" Paul chimed in.
"I'll answer your second question first, Paul, and reassure you I'm human, I'm just a little… extra. I can teleport, or 'blink' as I call it," she explained, monitoring their reactions. "Honestly, I'm not sure how I got here. I was being chased in my car after I fucked up a job, blinked away, and... well, there was this blinding flash and a loud sound. Next thing I knew, I was here."
A heavy silence followed. They were processing the information overload, she knew. But for once, she was being truthful.
Paul broke the silence first. "That's awesome! Can we watch the movie?" he exclaimed excitedly. Marko responded with a disbelieving look and a shove, which led to them wrestling around in Sevyn's living room.
Ignoring them, the others focused on the situation at hand.
"I don't mean to complain or anything, but this really hurts. I don't know all your powers, but if someone could heal this, that'd be great," Sevyn said, wincing in pain.
Paul, eager to touch her, jumped up. "I can do that!" But Dwayne was faster.
The taller vampire approached her, cradling her head with one hand while tilting it to the side. Their gazes locked throughout. He then leaned down and swiped his tongue over the wound a few times until the pain subsided.
"Aw, I wanted to do that!" Paul whined before being tackled by Marko again.
"Some vampire lore suggests you can heal with blood," Sevyn stammered, her cheeks flushed and eyes wide with surprise.
"True, but then I wouldn't have gotten to taste yours," Dwayne rumbled with a smirk. "AB negative, rare, delicious."
"That's not creepy at all," she muttered sarcastically.
"Enough flirting," David said impatiently. "I have questions."
"Of course you do," Sevyn retorted, still bitter from the attack.
"If you know what we are, why haven't you told anyone? And why are you still here, in a vampire town?"
Meanwhile, the wrestling duo had migrated to the kitchen, raiding her cupboards. Sevyn sighed and settled back on the couch, folding her legs in. The fear had receded, but caution lingered. David, she was sure, still viewed her as a threat.
"My answer might sound crazy, but I have nowhere else to go. And believe it or not, you guys are my favorite part of the movie. I actually want to save you. That's why I was watching it – trying to figure out a way to do that," she explained.
Dwayne spoke up. "Save us from what? What happens?"
A grave expression settled on Sevyn's face. "You all die."
