Chapter 3
Rin pulled her cloak close to her body, hiding her from the people who were wandering around in the town where she was supposed to meet the Gray Wizard. She wasn't sure of what she was going to expect in seeing Gandalf the Gray. She wasn't sure of what he was going to tell her. She walked into the Prancing Pony carefully. She knew that she had all eyes on her because she was wearing all black and all black was a sign of a ranger. She had spent weeks to come here traveling through wooded areas and avoiding orcs that could easily kill anyone who got in their way.
She walked to one of the back tables to be left alone. She knew that no one would bother a ranger. Just because they were normal terms of man were very dangerous. So she was a dangerous person here in Bree. Her golden brown eyes continued to look around the room. She was looking for Gandalf, but she wasn't sure when he was going to be here.
A waitress came up to me. "What can I get you?"
"An ale and some meat and bread."
The waitress's eyes widened when she realized that she was a female. "Will that be all Miss?"
Rin nodded her head. "Yes."
The waitress walked away to get her order.
Waiting for Gandalf was probably the hardest thing that Rin had to do ever. He was noted to be late. At least that is what the books that she had read always put him down as. But he always said that a wizard showed up when he meant to.
A man dressed in gray robes stopped in front of her table. "May I join you?" He asked politely.
Rin looked up and saw that it was none other than who she was waiting for. She nodded her head.
"Rin." He said sitting down across from her.
The waitress put her food down before her.
Rin tore into the bread with her hands. She looked at Gandalf. "Lady Galadriel told me that I was going to meet you."
Gandalf nodded his head. "That would be correct Rin."
Rin took a bite of bread and looked up at him in the eyes. "Care to tell me what this is all about?" She questioned. She couldn't help but wonder where exactly she was in time.
"You are needed on an adventure."
"To where?" She questioned quirking her eyebrow.
"Erebor."
Rin put the piece of bread that she had in her hand down. Well, that was not good. Erebor. She knew what waited at Erebor. "Why me?"
"You know what is to come."
She bit the inner part of her lip. Of course, she knew what was waiting at the end of this quest. Death. Death that couldn't be stopped.
"You know that there is death."
She nodded her head. "Yes…"
"You were brought here for a reason. Perhaps it isn't meant to be. Perhaps you will be able to stop death from happening."
"And Oakenshield…" Rin said softly, clearing her throat before continuing. "He won't be pleased to have a woman on this quest."
"I will tell him that you are a Dunedain," Gandalf told Rin. His eyes glowed like he knew something else. "I do not think that he will be giving you much trouble."
"When am I to meet you?"
"In a week, evening at the Shire at Bag-End," Gandalf explained to her.
Rin nodded her head. "I will be there." She said softly knowing that this quest was going to be a long one and something that couldn't be avoided. But she was willing to help where she could.
"At night. There will be a door with a glowing blue mark. That is where the hobbit will be."
Rin smiled. She would be getting to meet Bilbo Baggins. The one that started this all. The one that had found the ring and left it to Frodo at the end. This was going to be an interesting quest for her that was for sure. "I will be there."
Gandalf stood up and patted her arm. "I will trust you to that dear. Now will you help an old man to his room?"
Her lips quirked a little bit into a half smile. She got to her feet and stood under him. He leaned on her but was careful not to put any of his weight onto her. She helped him towards his room. "How can you be so sure that Oakenshield will accept me?"
"Having a Dunedain on this quest will make it all worthwhile. Granted he might not trust you because you are the race of man with some elvish blood running through your veins, but he will know that Dunedain are very skilled in healing and what they do. My dear you will be in this to prove your worth. Perhaps in more ways than one." He opened the door to his room. "Get some rest my dear and I will see you tomorrow evening."
She nodded her head. "Thank you." She said softly before going back to her table and grabbing her bag. She walked back towards where the rooms were and found hers. She went inside and began to take some of the heavy layers that she wore. She lay down in bed and blew out the candle. She kept a small blade out next to her just in case she needed it.
