Chapter 5: Arrival at Pewter City

The next day Paul and Hilda left the Pokemon center and journed to Pewter City where Hilda will have her first gym battle in Kanto.

Going through the Viridian Forest was simple for Paul at least since he was traveling there once.

Later the two made it out of the forest and arrived at Pewter City.

Paul and Hilda were looking around the city.

"This is place is big."

Paul didn't respond but just kept looking around the city. "You know Paul, I would like it if you cheer me on." That seemed to get her traveling companion's attention. "Say what?"

Hilda wasn't expecting that answer. "Come on its only natural for someone to see my battle, we're friends, aren't we?"

Paul gave her unreadible expression before sighing. "Fine, but don't disappoint me otherwise I'll leave you in a heart beat."

Hilda's cheeks puffed. "That's not nice!"

"Excuse me." A voice said as the two trainers turned to see a man.

Paul's eyes widened at the man's look. "Is that one of Ash's friends?" He observed the man closely but realized this wasn't Brock. "Oh right, Brock's father Flint."

The old man noticed Paul. "Oh its you Paul." The man smirked. "Its been quite sometime since you and your brother Reggie were here."

His brother's name caused the purpled haired trainer to twitch. "Sadly, I heard he's a breeder." Paul's eyebrow rose in confusion. "How do you know about that?"

"My son Brock told me that but happy to hear that he's doing good."

Paul admitted himself he wasn't too happy with his brother's decision but had to accept it. "Yeah, anyway what you are doing out here Flint?"

Brock's father smiled. "Oh just doing some shopping with my wife Lola." He turned to see the young girl. "Oh, is this a friend of yours?"

"Oh, I'm Hilda. I'm a trainer from the Unova Region." Hilda answered with a polite smile.

Brock's father was suddenly excited. "Oh the Unova Region, I heard stories about that, I never would expect a trainer from Unova to be here. This is truly a great opporunity!"

"Dear, don't get overly excited, you might scare the girl." A female voice said. A woman came and stood by the man. "Hi I'm Brock's mother Lola."

"Anyway, I see we have guests." Brock's mother said in a greeting tone. "Are one of you the challengers?"

Hilda raised her hand. "Yes ma'am that would be me."

Lola squealed. "This should be good, I look forward to seeing a battle against our other son!"

Paul raised his eyebrow. "Other son?"

"That's right, see Brock left the Gym to be a Pokemon Doctor." Flint answered. "See about a month ago he returned for awhile, however Nurse Joy from the Pokemon Inspection Agency arrived, she and Brock battled and of course, Brock lost."

Paul was surprised. "So that romeo geek lost."

Flint then smiled. "However Forrest another son of mine was giving the position, Brock convinces Nurse Joy to give Forrest a chance."

Lola shared her husband's smile. "Yes, Forrest fought hard using his Rhyperior against Nurse Joy's Latias."

"Latias!" Hilda exclaimed. "That's one of the legendary Pokemon from Hoenn!"

Paul had to admit he didn't expect someone like Nurse Joy to have a rare legenardy Pokemon.

"Yes however Forrest used his brother's hit and run strategy to make some comebacks but Nurse Joy counters and wins the battle. However she gives Forrest a good review and lets the gym stay open." Lola explained. "So the gym leader is Forrest, so Hilda when you are ready come by."

Hilda politely bowed. "I will." The two adults left.

Hilda wasn't familiar with this strategy. "This hit and run strategy sounds quite interesting."

Paul seemed to recall this strategy then again anyone can use in different ways. "Hmm, Forrest's Rhyperior must know Dig, if that's the case-"

"Hey!" His thoughts were interrupted by his traveling companion. "Paul, can you train me so that my Pokemon and I are warmed up?"

Paul looked at her unreadible expression for a moment before he smiled softly. "Well alright, we'll train for awhile then maybe tomorrow you can to the gym, if you're ready."

They went to forest again and saw an opening. "Charmander Stand by for battle!"

"Char-charmander!" The lizard pokemon said.

"Bulbasaur, let's go!" Hilda threw the pokeball and out came the Kanto's starter grass Pokemon.

"Bul-ba-bulbasaur!"

"I shall make the first move! Bulbasaur Vine Whip!" Two vines came out of the bulb flower pokemon and went straight towards Charmander. "Use Dig!"

Charmander dug itself into the ground. "Oh no!" Hilda exclaimed but shook her head. "Bulbasaur try to listen and hear where Charmander is!"

Bulbasaur listened carefully for any movements. "Charmander Slash!" It came from ground and behind Bulbasaur and delivered a slash attack. "Bulba!"

"Bulbasaur!" Hilda cried in horror.

"Come on, fight back!" Paul demanded. "I didn't start training so you can panic!"

Hilda recollected herself. "Bulbasaur Vine Whip again!" Her grass starter grew out vines again and attempted to whip the lizard pokemon. "Charmander use Dig again!"

"Bulbasaur grab its tail!" Bulbasaur used one of it's vines to grab the lizard by the tail.

"What the!?" Paul exclaimed in surprise.

"Now slam onto the ground!" Hilda commanded.

Bulbasaur slammed Charmander onto the ground with force. Despite the hard landing Charmander got up. "Good." Paul said smiling softly.

Hilda smiled back. "Now Charmander use Dig again!" Charmander dug another hole. "Bulbasaur use Razor Leaf in the hole that Charmander just dug!"

Bulbasaur unleashed a razor like leaves into the hole and the lizard Pokemon jumped out in pain. That brought back memories of when Paul used Chimchar while Ash used his Turtwig. "Good, but I'm not done, Charmander Flamethrower!"

"Chaarrr!" The lizard Pokemon said unleashing a fiery breath attack.

"Dodge it!" Hilda commanded.

Bulbasaur did but it's bulb took some damage which made it groan in pain. "Let's finish this, Charmander use Slash!" Charmander charged towards Bulbasaur.

"Quick grab it with Vine Whip!" Bulbasaur used its vines to grab the lizard pokemon. "Now slam into the ground like-"

"Fire Fang." Charmander opened its mouth and its fangs caught fire and took a bite out of Bulbasaur's vines which released it. "Ah!" Hilda gasped.

"Charmander use Flamethrower!" Paul commanded. The lizard unleashed its fiery breath attack and engulf the bulb grass pokemon burning it to a crisp.

Hilda ran over to her Bulbasaur. "Bulbasaur, are you ok?" Bulbasaur looked at its trainer and smiled a little. "Good training." Paul came over to her with his Charmander. "As you can noticed I used Charmander to use Slash to get closer and when you used Vine Whip that's when I made my move to use Fire Fang."

Hilda was getting to understand that strategy. "I see you took an attack and waited for the moment to strike back. When you had Charmander use Dig, you showed me I can use some moves that can used to fire into holes."

"That's right." Paul took out a pokeball. "Charmander return for a rest."

"Now I shall use Weavile!"

"What's that Pokemon!" Hilda wondered taking her pokedex. "Weavile the Sharp Claw Pokemon. They live in cold regions, forming groups of four or five that hunt prey with impressive coordination."

"This should be good, Pawniard come out!" Hilda said.

Paul was intrigued and took out his pokedex. "Pawniard the Sharp Blade Pokemon. Blades comprise this pokemon's entire body. If battling dulls the blades, it sharpents them on stonces by the river." The purple haired trainer smirked. "This should be good."

"Weavile Swords Dance!"

Weavile's claws glowed and did the sword dance. "I see now it's normal and special attacks are even stronger." Hilda wondered but the smiled. "Pawniard use Sword Dance too!"

Pawniard did the same dance increasing its regular and special attacks. "Now Use Metal Claw!"

"Weavile use Metal Claw too!"

The two pokemon collided their metal like claw attacks which caused them to push each other away. "It seems our pokemon are a match." Hilda commented.

"Is that so?" Paul asked seemingly unconvinced. "Weavile use Blizzard!" The sharp claw Pokemon unleashed a powerful blizzard. "Wea-vile!"

Pawniard was caught in the blizzard. "Pawniard stay strong and use Metal Sound!" It brought its metal blades together creating a metal sound that was able to break through the blizzard and engulfed the sharp claw pokemon. "Uh oh." Paul said.

"Now use Metal Claw!" Hilda commanded.

Pawniard charged towards Weavile with its metal claws and landed a hit. "Wea-vile!"

"Quick Agility!" Weavile dashed from place to place with increased speed. "Uh oh." Hilda groaned with worry. "It's speed increased."

Panwiard tried to keep track of Weavile but every time that it spotted it the sharp claw Pokemon would just move in a flash. "Now Weavile use a barrage of Metal Claws!"

Weavile clawed at Pawniard and landed a hit then another and another. "This is bad if this keeps up then Pawniard won't last much longer." Hilda greeted her teeth. "Wait, was that Paul told said before?"

"I had Charmander go on close by telling to use Slash when you snatched it using Vine Whip that was my cue to strike."

Hilda's eyes widen with realization. "That's it, Pawniard just stand there!" the command was bizzare but had to take the chance.

Paul narrowed his eyes. "Weavile, let's finish this!" Weavile unleashed another Metal Claw.

"Guillotine!" Pawniard's sharp blade glowed white and extended it at Weavile. "Agility now!" Weavile quickly dodged in a nick of time. "Oh no!" Hilda exclaimed.

"I figured you'd do that." Paul smirked. "But a good try, Weavile finish this!" Weavile then did some kind of sweep with its leg and it Pawniard's stomach and sent it flying away into a tree.

Paul was surprised. "What was that?"

"That was Low Sweep!" Hilda answered in surprise. "Its a fighting move that used in Unova!"

Paul smirked. Hilda walked over to her Pawniard and saw that it was knocked out. "Pawniard, you did a great job, so get some rest."

"I have admit you used my strategy against me that was impressive." Paul said with a soft smile. "However I figured you'd use it so I bluffed Weavile's attack and had use it Agility again."

Hilda was rather impressed than before. "I see, I have a lot to learn, but I want to continue training so that I can be prepared for my gym battle!"

Paul smirked. "Very well, let's continue."

The rest of the afternoon Paul trained Hilda, but to mostly it was like they were training each other.

Short time later.

Paul and Hilda went to the Pokemon center to have their Pokemon checked for battle. After a waiting for awhile Nurse Joy came out and told the two trainers that they're Pokemon are fit for battle.

Later that night.

Hilda was still awake while Paul was out like a light. "Paul..." She knows that its been a few days since she's traveled with this trainer but ever since he's been helping her train her Pokemon.

Despite what she was told by Tracey and the others Paul wasn't as coldhearted as the people claim him to be but he does not show much emotion. "Paul despite what people probably said about you, you helped me a little." She looked up at the ceiling. "I hope to return to the favor."

The next morning.

Hilda and Paul gathered their stuff and Pokemon then made their way to the Pewter City Gym. "Its time for my gym battle." Hilda thought. "I will win."

End of chapter.
