Chapter 6: Forrest the Rock Gym Leader

I made a mistake on Nosepass' compass nose, it can detect a Pokemon's magnetic energy even if that Pokemon isn't an electric type and decided to add a little more action to this. Hope you don't manage the changes. No complaining or bad reviews.

Hilda and Paul arrived at the Pewter City Gym. The Unova trainer opened the doors and inside was the rock battlefield. "This is some battlefield!"

Forrest was already on the other side, waiting. "So you arrived, " Hilda said with a confident smile. "Yeah, I'm Hilda from Nuvema Town, which is in the Unova Region!"

Forrest was intrigued with a grin. "I see, my father told me about you, I can hardly wait to see what Pokemon you'll use in our battle."

Hilda shared the same feeling. "Yes, I heard your Pokemon Rhyperior is a Pokemon that lives in Sinnoh. She took out her Pokeball. "Enough talk, let's begin our battle!"

"I'll be the judge!" Standing by the sideline was Flint. "The battle between Pewter City Gym leader Forrest and challenger Hilda! This will be a three-on-three battle!"

Hilda was quite eager to battle and knew this battle was going to be tough. "This is my first gym battle in Kanto." She glanced at Paul standing on the rail. "I know the training I did with you won't be wasted." She took out a Pokeball. "I choose Dewott!"

"De-wott." The sea otter Pokemon said.

Forrest was intrigued. "So that's a Pokemon from Unova?" Hilda smiled. Yes, I raised it from Oshawott, which is one of the starter Pokemon in Unova."

The siblings were so excited to see a new Pokemon. "Aw, that Pokemon is cute!"

"It looks strong too!"

Lola cupped her hands. "Aw so cute!"

Forrest took his Pokeball. "I see, let's get started then go Geodude!"

"Geo-dude." The rock creature said. "This Pokemon belonged to my big brother Brock and he was the original gym leader here." Forrest introduced. "He's on journey to become a Pokemon Breeder and I know he can become one."

"Yeah!" His brothers and sisters cheered.

Paul didn't say a word but he has heard of that his rival's friend before rather he met him. "So, that love struck moron once

"Let the battle begin!" Flint announced.

"Dewott use Water Pulse!" Dewott put its paws together creating a ball of water and extended it at Geodude. "Geodude use Rock Polish!"

The Rock Pokemon polished itself. "Rock Polish?" Hilda wondered in confusion.

Paul was a little troubled. "Not good, now it's speed increases."

"Now use Mega Punch!" Geodude charged towards it with its right fist which glowed white. "Geo-dude!" Its fist landed hard against Dewott's face sending it crashing into the ground. "Dewott!"

Dewott was on its back groaning in pain. "Dew-dewott." It got up and smirked. "Good job, Dewott let's keep going!"

"Figures it wouldn't go on, no matter how Double-Edge!" Forrest commanded.

"Is that risky since it causes recoil damage!?" Hilda asked with concern. Forrest chuckled. "Normally that is the case, but my Geodude has the ability Rock Head which prevents it from taking recoil damage."

Geodude's entire body was engulfed in white light as it dashed toward Dewott. "Quick use Razor Shell!" The sea otter took out both its shells as sharp blades of water formed. "Dewott!" it cried as it collided its sharp shells with Geodude's reckless tackle-type attack.

However, Dewott was overpowered and sent flying upwards. "Dewott no!" Hilda cried.

Paul was rather impressed. "Well, looks like that Geodude is on a high level."

"Now Geodude use Stone Edge and fire upward!" Geodude summoned out sharp stone edges and fired it directly upwards at Dewott which landed a hit causing a dust explosion from the stones.

Dewott fell down with a loud thud. "Dewott!" Once the dust cloud from the rocky field cleared. Dewott was still damaged but it stood up.

"This should be my first win in this round," Forrest said confidently. "Geodude wrap this up with Stone Edge once more!"

The Rock Pokemon summoned out countless stone edges and fired them all at its opponent.

"Don't give in!" Hilda called out.

Hearing those words got Dewott to react and engulf itself in water and then lunge itself down and through the stone edges then slamming itself against Geodude. "Geo-dude!" The rock Pokemon skidded across to other side between large rocks.

"Oh no!" Forrest yelled in shock.

Paul's eyes widened in surprise. "Was that Aqua Jet?"

"Wow, Dewott learned Aqua Jet, now let's go use it again!" Dewott engulfed itself in water and lunged itself towards Geodude. "Not this time, Geodude! Use Rock Polish then follow up with Rollout!" The Rock Pokemon polished itself and rolled towards Dewott.

The two Pokemon collided creating an explosion and cloud of dirt. As it cleared one Pokemon was still standing and that was Dewott while Geodude was knocked out with dizzy eyes.

"Geodude is unable to battle! Dewott wins!" Flint announced.

The other siblings groan. "Aw, Geodude lost!"

"No matter, Forrest is just getting warmed up!"

Lola agreed. "Right kids, this battle will get more interesting."

"Alright, Dewott!" Hilda jumped with joy hugging her starter Pokemon.

Forrest returned his Geodude. "Good work, you deserve a rest Geodude." He took out another Pokeball. "I have to admit a Pokemon using a new move in a gym match is quite a sight, that means I won't hold back as much, I choose Nosepass!"

The Compass Pokemon appeared. "Nose-pass." Forrest grinned. "I caught this Pokemon.

"What is that Pokemon?!" Hilda exclaimed as she took her Pokedex. "Nosepass the Compass Pokemon. Nosepass has a nose that functions as an electromagnet and determines location by moving its nose about."

She looked at the Pokemon. "Electromagnet that must mean it can use Electric moves, in that case." Hilda took Dewott's Pokeball. "Return Dewott!" She put its Pokeball back in her shirt pocket. "Now Bulbasaur let's go!"

"Bulb-saur!" The bulb Pokemon said.

"A grass type, I should've known," Forrest said showing no sign of worry. "Nosepass use Tackle!" The compass Pokemon charged with its whole body towards Bulbasaur. "Bulba!" The bulb pokemon cried in pain.

"Bulbasaur!" Hilda exclaimed in shock.

Bulbasaur was sent rolling on the ground. "Are you ok?" Hilda asked. "Bulba-saur!" The bulb pokemon answered getting back on its feet. "Good our turn now, Razor Leaf!"

Bulbasaur unleashed a bunch of sharp leaves at Nosepass. "Quick use Sandstorm!" A sandstorm was summoned covering the entire battlefield. "I have to admit that Sandstorm is something," Paul muttered covering his face with his arms.

"If you think my Nosepass won't be able to find Bulbasaur then you'd better think again," Forest said with a confident smile. "Huh?" Hilda wondered.

"See, Nosepass can track down Pokemon or electromagnet energy! I got a better idea! Nosepass use Discharge!" A flare of electricity was loosed everywhere on the battlefield. One of the electricity struck Bulbasaur. "Oh no!" Hilda cried in horror.

"Now let's wrap this up, Rock Tomb!" Boulders were hurled at the bulb Pokemon and were trapped and then squeezed between the rocks. "Bulbasaur!"

Paul's eyes widened. "If Bulbasaur doesn't get out of there then it's through."

"Bulbasaur try to get out of there!" Hilda called out but the Bulb was trapped so tightly it couldn't move an inch. "It's time to wrap this match up, Nosepass use Tackle!" The compass Pokemon charged at the boulders that had Bulbasaur trapped. "Bulbasaur!" The bulb pokemon was sent crashing into one of the battlefield's rocks which broke into pieces creating dust.

When it cleared it showed Bulbasaur was out. "Bulbasaur is unable to battle! Nosepass wins!"

"Alright, Forrest's Nosepass won!" One of the siblings cheered.

"I told ya he was getting warmed up!" Another added.

Lola was proud. "That's Forrest for ya."

Paul sighed. "Well, I see that thing needs more training."

Hilda was a little sad. "Bulbasaur are you ok?" She picked up her grass-type Pokemon. "

Bulba-saur." The Bulb Pokemon said a little sad that it lost.

The girl smiled a little. "Don't worry, next time you'll win in our next gym battle, I'm sure of it." She returned it to its Pokeball and took out another. "Pawniard, let's go!"

"Pawn!" The sharp blade said.

"Oh, another Pokemon from Unova and steel type!" Forrest said looking impressed. "Good choice indeed."

"Pawniard, use Swords Dance!" The sharp blade turned its blades into a gossip red color. "Pawn-pawn-Pawniard!" It danced.

"So you increased its attack stat. No matter use Sandstorm!" Forrest commanded.

The compass Pokemon summoned out another sandstorm. "Now use your nose to draw out Pawniard!"

Nosepass concentrated its nose to locate Pawniard.

Hilda was confused. "I don't get what is it doing?"

Paul sighed. "Your Pawniard is made of iron like steel, so Nosepass will use its nose to draw your Pawniard to track it."

This gave Hilda an idea. "Pawniard just stand there!" Forrest gasped in confusion but noticed Nosepass was following something and gave him a sign that located Pawniard. "Go after Pawniard now and use Tackle!"

Nosepass charged to where Pawniard was.

"Quick use Metal Sound!" Pawniard brought its blades together and created a horrible sound like scraping metal. "Nose-pass!"

That stopped Nosepass in its tracks. "Use Metal Claw before it recovers from the Metal Sound!" Hilda commanded.

The sharp blade Pokemon lunged towards the compass Pokemon and clawed on its forehead dealing super effective damage and jumped off of it. "Don't give in Nosepass! Use Zap Cannon!" The compass Pokemon fired an electric blast like a cannon right at the sharp blade Pokemon. "Use Double Team!"

Pawniard created copies of itself and moved around rapidly. "Not bad, but I'll use this, Discharge!"

"Nose-pass!" It loosed another electric flare and destroyed all fake Pawniards. "Pawn-iard!" The sharp blade cried in pain. "Oh no!" Hilda exclaimed.

"Now use Tackle and finish this up!" Forrest commanded as the compass Pokemon charged ahead.

"Counter with Iron Head now!" Pawniard charged with its steel head and the two collided and after a few seconds, an explosion appeared.

Pawniard and Nosepass looked at each other for a moment.

Nosepass began to fall backward. "Nose-pass..." The compass Pokemon was out for the count with dizzy eyes.

"Nosepass is unable to continue! Pawniard wins!" Flint announced.

"Alright, Pawniard!" Hilda called out excitedly.

Her sharp blade Pokemon stood proudly. "Pawn-iard!"

Paul smiled softly. "That was good I guess."

"Aw, Nosepass lost." one of the siblings groans.

"Yeah, but don't forget Forrest got his powerhouse Pokemon!" A female sibling pointed out.

Lola smiled. "Yes, this battle is getting more exciting to watch too."

"Return Nosepass," Forrest said as he smiled at the Pokeball. "You did good, now get a good long rest."

"Forrest, your Nosepass is strong!" Hilda complimented.

"I admit you got some strong Pokemon, I'd expect nothing less and Brock would've agreed too." Forrest added taking out his third Pokeball. "This is the final round, I choose Rhyperior!"

"Rhyperior!" The large drill rhino-like Pokemon roared.

"Let's see what dexter says," Hilda said taking out her Pokeball. "Rhyperior the Drill Pokemon and the evolved form of Rhydon. Rhyperior can concentrate strength in its body and expand, causing the stone in its hand to launch."

Paul was a little impressed. "This should be good."

"Pawniard use Metal Claw!" Hilda commanded.

"I figured you'd do that. Dig attack!" Forrest commanded.

The drill Pokemon dug into the ground and disappeared.

Pawniard stopped looking around. "This isn't good." Hilda groaned. "I have to be on guard."

Rhyperior emerged from the ground and sent Pawniard flying away. "Pawn-iard!"

"Oh no!" Hilda exclaimed.

"Now use Rock Wrecker!" The drill Pokemon created a huge boulder by putting its hands together. "Throw it!" The huge boulder was thrown at the sharp blade Pokemon sending it up to the ceiling as the rock broke into pieces and vanished.

Pawniard fell as Hilda caught it in her arms which showed that her Pokemon was ko'd. "Pawniard is unable to battle Rhyperior wins!"

Lola was excited as her children were. "My, this battle is getting me fired up!"

Flint chuckled at his other son's performance. "He does take after Brock, I couldn't be more proud."

Hilda carried her steel Pokemon back to where she was. "Good job Pawniard, now take a nice long rest." She looked at Rhyperior with astonished. "Rhyperior is one tough Pokemon. Its obvious that he trained well and I'm sure this Brock guy would be just as a challenge as Forrest is."

She then took out Dewott's Pokeball. "Dewott. It's all up to you now!"

"Dewott!" The sea otter said.

"Third match, begin now!" Flint proclaimed.

"Dewott, use Water Pulse!" Hilda commanded.

"De-wott!" The sea otter held out both its arms in the shaper of T and opened its mouth then a light blue orb of energy began to appear in front of its mouth and fired it at Drill Pokemon.

"Rhyperior use Dig again!" Forrest commanded.

Which the drill Pokemon did as the water attack missed. "Nice try, I figured you'd do that!" Hilda pointed out.

"Huh?" Forrest said in confusion.

"Dewott aim your Water Pulse in the hole!" The sea otter went to the hold that was just dug and fired its water orb into the hole.

Inside the hole, Rhyperior was on the back of its head and exploded too. "Rhy!" It cried as its voice was heard from the hole.

Lola and her children gasped in surprise.

Forrest was astonished. "Impressive strategy!"

Flint was quite impressed himself. "I never thought of anyone doing that."

Paul recalled Ash doing that strategy too. "Hmm, sounds like Ash's ideas came useful."

"Rhyperior, are you ok!" His Drill Pokemon came out with a determined look. "Alright, let's get more serious than ever, Use Drill Run!" It formed its body into a drill. Then it jumped into the air and rotated its body charging at Dewott.

Dewott was hit hard. "That looked like a critical hit!" Hilda exclaimed.

"Right, when a Pokemon uses this move critical hits land more easily," Forrest explained. "If I use this again and land, Dewott won't be able to get up again." Hilda gritted her teeth. "That means I'll have to make sure that doesn't happen, but if I let my guard down Dewott will take another hit and who knows if it'll stand up this time."

Dewott got up despite the damage it took which Paul saw. "I have to admit that Dewott has some endurance." Forrest saw this and smiled proudly.

"Hey, I think it's time to end this! Rhyperior use Drill Run once more!" The drill pokemon re-done its move and drilled towards the sea otter pokemon. "Dewott use Aqua Jet!"

The two Pokemon collided together but Dewott was overpowered and sent flying into a rock. "Dewott!"

Dewott was barely standing and panting. "This isn't good one wrong move and this battle is over," Hilda muttered.

"Hilda!" Forrest called out. "There is no shame in surrendering especially when comes to the safety of your Pokemon."

Hilda gritted her teeth but Dewott stood up straight. "Dewott, are you sure?" The sea otter nodded with determination in its eyes. "De-wott."

Hilda nodded her head. "Then let's give it everything we got this time!"

"De-wott!" Suddenly it began to glow.

"Whoa!" Hilda exclaimed.

Paul narrowed his eyes. "Hmm?"

Forrest was surprised. "Uh oh..."

Lola was more excited to what she was seeing. "Wow, Dewott is beginning to evolve!"

The siblings were overtaken with excitement and energy.

"Wow a Pokemon is evolving!"

"In a gym match too!"

"This is so exciting!"

Dewott's changed shape and then became a different Pokemon. "Sam-urott!"

"Whoa, Dewott evolved into Samurott!" Hilda exclaimed as she took out her Pokedex. "Samurott, the Formidable Pokemon and the final evolved form of Oshawott. Protected by armor, Samurott can defeat opponents with one sword swipe. Its glare can silence them as well."

"This is quite the sight," Lola said in amazement.

The siblings were in awe. "So cool!"

"Samurott is so big too!"

"Yeah, and this is becoming a great battle!"

"I wish big brother Brock was here to see this!"

Paul had to admit this was interesting. "Hmm, not bad I suppose."

Forrest smiled proudly. "I see your Dewott evolved, it must've wanted to evolve when you needed it the most."

Hilda smiled. "Then let's finish this!" Samurott released a stream of boiling water at the drill Pokemon which drenched it.

"Rhy-perior!" The drill Pokemon cried in pain.

"Rhyperior!" Forrest exclaimed in shock.

"That was Scald!" Hilda exclaimed. "It's a water move that's used in Unova!"

As soon as the scald attack was done Rhyperior's body was all red. "Why is Rhyperior glowing red?" Forrest asked.

"When Scald makes contact with its target then could cause burn effect!" Hilda answered.

"Oh no!" Forrest yelled but quickly regained his focus. "I ain't done and as long as Rhyperior is still standing we have a chance! Rhyperior use Rock Wrecker!" The drill Pokemon threw a huge boulder at the Formidable Pokemon.

"Samurott show them your power!" Hilda proclaimed. "Use Razor Shell!" It drew a seminar from a sheath on one of the arms and another on the other arm then slashed the huge boulder in two. "Ah!" Forrest gasped. "Rhy?" The drill Pokemon said in shock.

"Now use Aqua Jet!" Hilda commanded.

Samurott surrounded itself in water and raised in the air tackling the drill Pokemon in the chest and pushing back in pain.

"Now use Razor Shell once more!" Hilda commanded.

Samurotto took out its two seamitars and slashed at Rhyperior's face sending it crashing into a rock and falling on its back with dizzy eyes.

"Rhyperior is unable to battle Samurott wins! The winner is Hilda from Nuvama Town!" Flint proclaimed.

Hilda jumped with joy. "Samurott we did it"

Lola smiled. "Oh well, Forrest put up an awesome fight but, he lost."

Forrest smiled and took out a Pokeball. "Rhyperior return." He looked at the Pokeball. "You battled so well and I'm proud of you."

Paul clapped his hands. "I have to admit you did well." He smiled a little. "Just don't let this win get to your head."

Hilda's face puffed up. "That's how you compliment me!" Just then Bulbasaur and Pawniard came out. "Oh you two are out, guess you want to join in my victory!"

Her Pokemon nodded.

Flint laughed a little. "Youth is something."

Forrest walked over to Hilda. "Hey, Hilda!" The Unova trainer turned to the gym leader. "You won, I never thought I'd see my opponent's Pokemon evolve in battle. I admit it's quite impressive." He took out the Boulderbadge. "This Boulderbadge is yours, you earned it."

Hilda smiled and accepted it. "Thanks, it was great battling you." She raised her badge. "I got my first Kanto gym badge!"

"Sam-urott!"

"Bulbasaur!"

"Pawniard!"

Paul smiled softly. "I have to admit this journey might get interesting."

A short time later.

Everyone including Forrest's other siblings came out to bid farewell.

Hilda put her Boulderbadge in her badge case. "If you're wondering where I got this badge case, Professor Oak gave me one."

Paul didn't say a word.

"Anyway, good luck with your future gym battles!" Forrest said with encouragement. "Paul, you too I hope your battles at each Battle Frontier will go well."

Paul smiled a little. "I hope so too."

The two trainers left as Flint, Lola, Forrest, and their family waved goodbye. Hilda's first gym battle in Kanto went smoothly but she had 7 more gyms to go. Paul has his first Battle Frontier symbol and now the two are on their to Cerulean City where the Battle Factory is.
