Chapter 7: The Nerd Returns.

Previously Paul and Hilda were on their way to the Pewter City Gym where Hilda had her first kanto gym battle with its gym leader Forrest and one of Brock's younger brothers.

Hilda fought using her Dewott, Bulbasaur and Pawniard while Forrest used his Geodude, Nosepass, and Rhyperior. Each Pokemon fought hard, Forrest and his Rhyperior were having the upper hand however Hilda's Dewott evolved into Samurott the final evolved form of Oshawott.

Samurott completely overwhelmed Rhyperior and defeated it thus winning the gym battle and earning the Boulderbadge for Hilda.

Now the time is continue to the journey to Cerculean City where Paul will challenge the Battle Factory.

Now the two come arrive at Mt Moon.

"This cave we have to go through it to get to Cerculean City." Hilda pointed out.

Paul scoffed. "Yeah, I know that." The other trainer's cheek got puffed. "Hey, no need to be snippy about it!" She began pinching his cheeks. "Ow, I traveled here before or did you forget that already,"

The unova trainer let out of her partner's cheeks and huffed. "Well, just don't get seperated."

The two went inside as they did small drops of water dripped on the ground. "Man, it's a bit dark inside."

Paul took out his pokeball. "Charmander stand by!"

"Char-char!" The lizard Pokemon said. "Charmander, use your flame to help us get through this cave." The lizard Pokemon nodded.

Then a two pair of glowing eyes were watching them from shadows.

The two continued through the cave.

Above them was a swarm of Zubats. "Look up there." Hilda whispered. "Zubats a swarm of them. It looks like they're asleep."

Paul narrowed his eyes. "Charmander return." He put its pokeball in his pocket. "We're going to have be cautious one noise and they start flying around."

Hilda nodded but as she took a step she stepped on a puddle of water and made a splash sound.

That sound made the Zubat to wake up abrutly and causing them to squeak around and surround the two trainers. "Get away from me!"

"Grr..." Paul growled in annoyance. "Now Weavile-"

"Dusknoir use Night Shade!" A voice commanded.

A Dusknoir came out and unleashed a shade of dark energy at the Zubats and caused them to shake in pain. "Now to wrap this up, use a barrage of Shadow Punch!" The ghost pokemon extended its fist and unleashed a shadow like fists at the zubats causing them to flee away.

"My, just when I'm having a perfect exploration through Mt Moon, I run into some trainers." The other two trainers turn to see a young man with glasses. "Paul, its been quite some time."

It was Conway a trainer from the Sinnoh Region and nerd at that. "What are you doing here?" Paul asked looking annoyed.

"Gee, its nice to see you too." Conway replied with sigh but was expecting that reaction. "I can see you haven't change as much." He looked to see Hilda and he pushed back his glasses. "I see you have a friend with you." He grinned. "Funny, I figured you would travel alone from what I heard."

Hilda sweat dropped. "Uh, do you know this guy?" She pointed at Conway while glancing at Paul. "Yes, he's at trainer from Sinnoh and also a guy Ash battled in the Sinnoh league."

"I got a name, Conway is my name." The nerd trainer smirked. "Anyway, what is your name?" The unova trainer was little creeped out. "I'm Hilda, I come from the Nuvema town of the Unova Region."

This got Conway's interest. "Oh? I heard of the Unova, I was doing some research after my loose in the Sinnoh League, of other regions."

"That's when you heard of Unova." Paul guessed.

Conway chuckled. "Correct however I already had plans of coming here, I came here early."

"Does that mean you challenged the Pewter City Gym?" Hilda asked. The super nerd smirked as he took out a badge. "Yes, I won, if you're wondering what Pokemon I used in the battle, the three were Slowking, Heracross, and Dusknoir." He fixed his glasses. "I studied a little of the gym leader and the Pokemon he used, I came up with the strategy to win." He took a breath. "Anyway enough chit chat, I was on my Cerulean City, though I stopped here to find any new Pokemon but that's when I saw you two."

Paul wasn't too amused by the nerd's company. "Is that all, popping out of nowhere like a ghost pokemon."

Conway huffed. "Well actually I just wanted to stop by and see how were you doing Paul." He fixed his glasses. "I heard you lost to Ash but it was a close match, I must say you would've won if Infernape's blaze didn't activate.'

Paul narrowed his eyes."Honestly I did well, but I'm going to get stronger and defeat the Battle Frontier once I do, I will do what my brother couldn't do."

Conway smiled a little. "Interesting you have a brother, but that's no concern to me, however-" That caused the purple haired trainer to raise his eyebrows. "That influence is something that Ash shows once and awhile, I see that he's influenced you in some way."

"Shut up." Paul muttered. "Anyway, Hilda and I need to get through this cave so we'll be going."

"Wait, Conway would you like to join us on our journey?" Hilda asked which got her partner turn around with annoyance.

Conway fixed his glasses. "Sadly no, see I usual do my things my way. That aside I'm going to look for any new Pokemon I can catch, train some of my old ones and challenge the Cerculean gym. However I be willing to join you until we make it out of this cave."

The trio continued through the cave. Geodudes, Zubats, and Paras encounter the trainers but were overpowered.

Then finally the trainers arrived at the exit of the cave and saw the light. "There is the exit!" Hilda pointed out.

"Sadly this is where we depart for now." Conway said. "However I have a request."

"What kind of request?" Paul asked not facing the other guy. The super nerd smirked. "I would like to have a battle with Hilda." The Unova trainer gasped in surprise. "Why me?"

"Its obvious that I never saw Pokemon from Unova, I assume you brought some of your region, am I right?" Conway explained.

Hilda nodded her head confirming Conway's question. "Also let's make this battle more interesting." He took out a large sack and took out an egg. "If you beat me then this I shall give you this Pokemon Egg."

Hilda was astonished but excited. "Oh! I accept your challenge! Plus this will be a good to get warmed up for my next gym battle."

"Good. This shall be a double battle." Conway said with a grin. "If you win I'll give this egg, however if you lose then forget it."

Hilda punched the air. "I will win, you can bet on it!"

Paul was annoyed but seeing this battle might give him some ideas for his future battles. "I'll watch then."

"I choose Shuckle and Slowking!"

"Shucklet and Slowking?" Hilda wondered taking out her pokedex. She scanned Shuckle first. "Shuckle the Mold Pokemon. When Shuckle places organic materials in its husk like shell, the items are transformed into unique juice. Shuckle are naturally shy and are the most often found hiding beneath rocks."

She scanned Slowking. "Slowking, the Royal Pokemon. It has Tremendous intelligence and intution. No matter what the situation it stays calm and collected."

"Those two look powerful." Hilda whispered. "However I have faith in my Pokemon." She took out two pokeballs. "I choose Samurott and Bulbasaur!"

Conway fixed his glasses with interest especially at the girl's water pokemon. "A Samurott huh? Interesting a Pokemon from Unova, this should be good."

"I shall make the first move, Shuckle use Withdraw!" Conway commanded with calm face.

"No matter, Bulbasaur use Razor Leaf!" The bulb Pokemon unleashed razor sharp leaves. "Saw that coming, Slowking use Protect." The royal pokemon shielded itself and its tag partner. "Ah!" Hilda gasped.

Paul narrowed his eyes. "This going to get tricky."

"No matter! Samurott use Aqua Jet on Shuckle!" Hilda commanded.

The Forminable Pokemon was covered in water and jet towards the Mold Pokemon. "Samu-rott!"

"Hmm, Shuckle use Withdraw again and Slowking use your body to protect it!" Conway commanded calmly.

Shuckle withdrew in its shell again which glowed while Slowking used its body as a shield which left Hilda in confusion. "Is he losing on purpose?"

"Now Water Pulse!" Slowking put its hands together and creating a water orb then tossed it towards Samurott landing a hit. "Samurott!" Making it slide backwards.

"Shuckle use Withdraw once more!" The Mold Pokemon's shell glowed again.

Paul groaned. "I can tell this guy wants to use Withdrew then use Power Trick to exchange its increased defense to offensive." He glanced at his eyes at his traveling partner. "If that happens then her Pokemon won't stand a chance."

Hilda began to wonder something. "If Conway is strong as Paul claims to be then he must be up to something." She glanced at Paul noticing that he was looking at Conway. "He must know something I mean he was at the Sinnoh League with Conway as well." She looked back at the super nerd. "I'll have to see what Conway is planning, which means I'll have to attack, Bulbasaur use Razor Leave on Shuckle!"

"Now use Power Trick!" Conway said with a grin. "So that's what he was going for." Hilda thought in surprise. She looked at Samurott. "I know its a long shot but I'll have to faith in Samurott can hold against it."

"Now use with Gyro Ball on Bulbasaur!" Shuckle began to spin around towards Bulbsaur. "Samurott block it!"

The Forminable Pokemon went in front of its partner and block the attack. "I know your attack was just powered up but Gyro Ball is a Steel type move and those attack won't do much damage on a water Pokemon." Hilda pointed out.

Conway smirked. "That maybe but I got other ideas." He put his hand under his chin. "Use Psychic Slowking!"

The royal Pokemon's eyes glowed blue and lift up the water pokemon up in the air. "Now sent it flying!"

"No way! Bulbsaur use Leech Seed!" The bulb pokemon spouted out seeds out of large bulb which were planted onto the Slowking and grew leaves around its body and causing its energy to be drained. "Uh oh!" Conway said in shock but then realized something. "Wait you were setting me up!"

Hilda smiled. "Sorta, I knew you were up to something so I attacked your Shuckle again then you would reveal your strategy, then you used Power Trick to switch your Shuckle's defense with its offensive."

Conway put his hand under his chin with interest. "Yes that's when you used Samurott shield its partner from taken serious damage, of course you're right Steel type moves won't do much damage on water pokemon."

"Right, Leech Seed will keep weaking Slowking as long as the battle continues!" Hilda stated. "Now Samurott use Razor Shell!" The Fomrinable Pokemon drew two of its seamitars and both had light blue blades.

"That's new!" Conway exclaimed. "But I ain't going down that easily, Shuckle Gryo Ball again!"

Hilda smiled. "I figured you'd do that, Bulbsaur use Vine Whip from underneath!" Conway and Paul gasped at the command.

Bulbasaur whipped Shuckle from underneath causing it to fly upwards which made Shuckle emerge from its shell. "Oh no!" Conway shouted in shock.

"Now use Aqua Jet!" Samurott surrounded itself with water and shoot itself up the Mold Pokemon. "Not so fast, Slowking use Psychic!" Conway commanded.

Slowking was about to but it cringed in pain as more of its energy was being drained again. "That Leech Seed is becoming an annoyance."

"Bulbsaur Razor Leaf at full power!" The bulb pokemon unleashed razor sharp leaves from its bulb which slashed the royal Pokemon from head to toe. "Ah! Slowking!"

Samurott continued its attack against Shuckle which lande a super effective move and caused it to fall down to the ground.

Shuckle was knocked out as for Slowking was barely holding on but its energy was finally all drained which the Royal Pokemon smiled a little before falling on its back. "Slowking!"

Hilda was astonished before she jumped in the air. "Bulbasaur and Samurott we did it!" Her Pokemon went over to her and hugged her. "You both were great!"

Paul smiled a little as Conway called back his two Pokemon. "Slowking and Shuckle you both did well." He walked over to the girl. "Hilda, I have to admit you battled really well, even gambling to find out my strategy despite Shuckle's new power up, quite risky but still you won." He took the egg. "This brown Pokemon egg is yours now."

Hilda smiled with joy. "Alright, I can't wait to see what Pokemon will hatch." A pair of clapping hands got their attention. "That was a good, I have to admit it was good to watch."

Conway smirked. "Getting a compliment from someone that didn't get along with Ash and his friends is something I didn't expect. I should share this with anyone that knows you."

Paul just shrugged. "Do what you want."

"Either way, I won a Pokemon egg, Bulbsaur and Samurott you both will get a new teammate!" Her two Pokemon were excited as they jumped with joy.

Conway fixed his glasses. "Anyway I must be going to train some more before I challenge the Cerulean City gym so you guys later." He waved before running off.

"He's quite smart." Hilda commented.

Paul scoffed. "Let's just go, once we go there we'll need to go the Pokemon center and decided if we must exchange any of our Pokemon and to see if they're fit for battle."

Hilda nodded. "Yeah, let's get going!"

So after battling the trainer Conway and winning. Hilda recieves a Pokemon Egg but what kind of Pokemon will hatch from it. For now she and Paul are on their way to Cerulean City for Hilda's next gym battle and Paul's first Battle Frontier challenge.
