Chapter 9: Battle Factory

Decided to add more to this chapter even Noland and Paul using four Pokemon instead of three. Basically I decided to add more action to this chapter as well as the outcome of Paul's victory thus having Gliscor learn a new move. Sorry for the change, I hope you all enjoy the chapter. No bad reviews or comments, they won't be tolerated.

The next day Paul and Hilda returned to the Pokemon center in Cerulean City and after no response from Misty's three sisters their youngest sister returned the time of Paul challenging the Battle Factory was on next. Paul decided to gather four Pokemon.

Paul decided to do some research on Noland. "So he let his opponents choose which of his Pokemon they want to face. Not surprising since Reggie battled him before and I was there too."

"I see that sounds cool," Hilda commented. "So what plan do you have in mind."

"You'll have to wait and see," Paul replied not looking at the girl.

Hilda huffed but calmly smiled. "I suppose you'd say that but no matter I shall cheer you on."

Paul and Hilda went on their way to the Battle Factory.

Eventually, the two arrived there and approached the front door. Paul approached the door and knocked on it.

The door opened to Noland's assistant Sergio. "Oh a new challenger, what is your name?"

"I'm Paul from Veilstone City and Sinnoh Region." The purple-haired boy replied. "I'm here to battle Noland."

Sergio smiled. "Good follow me please and my name is Sergio." He escorted them through the factory. "As you might've guessed Noland is in his lab he does a lot in there and his inventions blew up three times in the past month."

"I hope we don't get caught in it," Hilda muttered with a sweat drop.

"Oh I wish was though. Noland is a great guy but when comes to inventions he kind of messes up quite a bit. But no matter he's still a great boss and I have the utmost respect for him." He turned to look at Paul. "I assume you know how the Battle Factory works?"

"That's right, I looked up information online and read that he lets opponents choose Pokemon they wish to battle."

Sergio smiled. "Yup. Here at the Battle Factory, we allow the challenger to choose his opponents. Anyway, here we are." He opened a huge door.

KABOOM

An explosion was heard causing smoke. "Dear me, Noland must've messed up again." Sergio joked.

"Is he okay?" Hilda asked sounding concerned.

"Don't worry about him. I'm sure he's fine." Sergio said with a smile. "Noland you alright in there,"

"Yeah, I'm in. What are you doing in here anyway?" Noland called through the smoke.

"We have a challenger ready to face you."

"It's been quite some time, where is my opponent?" Noland was standing up and appearing from the smoke.

"That would be me," Paul answered.

Noland studied the young man. "Strange haven't we met before?"

"That's right, you battled my older brother Reggie."

"Ah yes Reggie he was a powerful opponent of course but I'm even stronger than before. So you're his little brother. I hope to see how strong you too." He then began to gesture to follow him. "Right this way." He took the two trainers outside to an area where there were many Pokemon that Noland owned.

There were many different types of Pokemon to choose from. Paul saw Venusaur, Machamp, Breloom, Rhyhorn, Lairon, Camerupt, Pinsir, Golduck, Manetric, Sandslash and Trapinch.

Paul observed the prevolved Pokemon knowing that if they weren't strong he knew he wouldn't be able to test out his Pokemon's levels and make them stronger. So he had to think of another best way so he turned to look at Noland. "Excuse me what Pokemon did you use against Reggie?"

Noland scratched his face. "Well, it's been so long that I can't remember the Pokemon I used. "

"That's fine, what about the Pokemon you used against a trainer named Ash,"

Noland was suddenly interested. "Oh you know Ash, well I used an Articuno while he used his Charizard, I admit the battle was intense but he won."

"No way Ash battled an Articuno!" Hilda yelled in surprise.

Paul smirked. "If that's the case then I'd challenge your Articuno." Noland waved his hands gesturing. "Sorry, but I can't you see Articuno isn't mine per say, it's still a wild Pokemon we just became friends but I never captured it so I'm sorry."

Paul was a little disappointed but had another idea. "So what is the strongest Pokemon you have besides Articuno."

Noland had that answer already. "Sandslash, Manetric, Venasaur, and Machamp." That was good enough for Paul. "If that's the case I'll battle all three of them."

The battle factory brain smirked with interest. "I see, you're quite the interest trainer, very well then."

Paul and Noland went to the battle field where the ceiling opened Sergio was outside the battle box. "I'm ready when you two are!" Hilda was watching the battle on the platform. "Now the battle between Paul from Veilstone City and Battle Factory Brain Noland will be three on three battle. Will you both send out your Pokemon?"

"Right Manetric come one out," Noland said as he sent out Manetric.

"Weavile stand by for battle!"

The two Pokemon called out and were ready to battle.

"I'll start Weavile Swords Dance!" His dark ice Pokemon did a sword-like dance using its claws.

Noland smirked. "Raising your Pokemon's attack power is, interesting but I have something else in mind." He decided to make his move. "Manetric use Charge!" The electric-like canine's body was covered in electrical surges.

"Weavile use Blizzard!" A strong blizzard was summoned and engulfed the electric canine which hurt it a bit. "Quite strong, Manetric keep using Charge!"

Hilda was confused. "Why isn't Noland having his Manetric dodging it,"

"Keep up the Blizzard!" Weavile did and was dealing some damage as Manetric kept using Charge.

"Well, I guess this is it." Hilda guessed but then she noticed that Noland wasn't worried but was smiling like he was waiting for something.

Manetric then shook off the Blizzard.

"Ah!" Paul exclaimed.

"Wea-vile?"

"Manetric use Discharge!" Noland commanded as the electric canine unleashed a powerful electric shock from every direction of its body which dealt an electrical blow to Weavile.

"Oh no Weavile!" Hilda exclaimed with worry.

After the electric attack was done Weavile fell on the ground with dizzy eyes.

"Weavile is unable to battle, Manetric wins!" Sergio announced.

"As you probably guessed I used Manetric not only to boost its special defense using Charge but to also power up its electric attack as well." Noland explained.

"So that's why he kept using Charge," Hilda said looking impressed. "I have to admit that was a good strategy, so Paul can't let his guard down."

Paul returned Weavile. "Nice job Weavile..." He put its Pokeball and took out another. "Charmander stand by for battle!"

"Fire-type Pokemon, interesting," Noland commented. "Manetric us Spark this time!"

"Charmander dodge it!" Paul commanded.

The lizard Pokemon did so. "Now use Flamethrower!" Charmander unleashed a fiery breath at Manetric. "Dodge it!" Noland called.

Manetric did but its side got burned a little. "I have to admit that was a lucky hit, but your Charmander has talent," Noland said with a smirk. "I can picture it becoming a Charizard someday."

Paul didn't know if that was a compliment or not. "Enough talk and let's battle, Charmander use Fire Fang!"

"Double Team and surround Charmander!" Noland commanded.

Manetric created a bunch of clones of itself and surrounded Charmander. "Now use Shockwave!" The electric canine Pokemon released a jolt of electricity at the lizard Pokemon.

"Use Dig!" Charmander dug itself into the ground just as each shockwave missed it zapping its other illusion copies and causing them to disappear.

Noland and Manetric gasped in shock for a second. "No matter, Manetric be prepared, Charamander will emerge from anywhere!"

"Now Charmander do it!" The lizard Pokemon hit from underground dealing super effective damage.

"Manetric!" Noland exclaimed.

"Now finish it with Flamethrower!" Paul commanded.

Charmander unleashed its fiery breath which engulfed Manetric dealing massive damage.

Once the flames burned away Manetric was seen barely standing trying to endure the damage it took. "Man..e..tric." Manetric fell on its side fainting.

"Manetric is unable to battle, the winner is Charmander!" Sergio announced.

"Charmander did it!" Hilda cheered.

"Good job Charmander," Paul said despite not smiling.

"Return Manetric," Noland said returning the electric canine. "You did a good job so take a nice long rest. Paul you did great I didn't expect you to take down Manetric and using Dig was a good strategy too." He placed Manetric's Pokeball away and took out another. "However this battle is getting started. So go Sandslash!"

"Charmander use Flamethrower!" Charmander hit its sand mouse-like Pokemon with its fiery breath.

"Sandslash is Dig too!" Noland commanded.

His sand-like mouse dug into the ground but Paul smiled. "Not a good idea, Charmander uses a Flamethrower in the ground."

The flamethrower was sent into the hole where Sandslash dug which made it come up flying in pain. "Ah!" Noland exclaimed in shock.

"Whoa!" Hilda remembered that strategy when she was battling against Charmander using her Bulbasaur. "Now Charmander use Fire Fang!" Paul commanded.

"I admit that was unexpected," Noland commented with a smirk. "This is far from over, Sandslash use Crush Claw!"

Sandslash's claw glowed white and collided its attack with Charmander's Fire Fang. The two attacks caused an explosion and caused the two Pokemon backward but got back on their feet.

"Now use Rollout!" Sandslash curled into a ball and rolled towards Charmander dealing super effective damage.

"Uh oh," Paul said.

"You'd better be careful, Rollout gets stronger and stronger the more times it hits so you better have a trick up your sleeve," Noland warned with a smirk.

"That's a good strategy," Hilda said looking impressed.

"Charmander use Flamethrower!" The lizard pokemon unleashed its flame breath but Sandslash kept rolling along and hit its opponent again. Char!"

Paul gritted his teeth. "Darn this is not good any more hits and Charmander is done for." Just then Charmander's flame got brighter and lit more fire. "What is that?" He knew it wasn't blaze so he took out his Pokedex. "Charmander's special attack Rage gains more power the more times it's hit."

Paul smirked. "Then let's keep this up, Charmander use Fire Fang!" The lizard pokemon opened its mouth and its fangs caught fire then lunged at Sandslash who kept rolling.

Charmander took another hit but kept its Fire Fang lit up dealing more damage caused Sandslash to unroll itself. "Sandslash no!" Noland called out in shock.

"Charmander go!" Charmander charged ahead at Sandslash. "Quick use Slash this time!" The sand mouse used its left claw and swung its claw at the lizard. "Quick catch it with Fire Fang!" The lizard its fiery fang to catch the sand mouse's claw.

"Nice try but now that Charmander is close Sandslash gets use its free hand, Slash again!" Sandslash attempted to do so. "Quick use Flamethrower at point blank!"

"Char!" The lizard Pokemon called out as its flamethrower engulfed the same mouse.

Sandslash was hit hard but got up on its feet. "This Sandslash is stronger than I thought." Paul thought. "Let's end this now, Charmander use Flamethrower!"

"Quick use Dig once more!" Noland commanded as the sand mouse dug underground. "I can read you like a book, Charmander use Flamethrower in the hole!"

"Behind you!" Sandslash appeared quickly behind Charmander. "I used one of the holes that you dug already for a sneak attack since your Charmander was close to it, now use Slash!"

"Charmander catch it!" That was risky but he would have to take that chance which Charmander miraculously did so. "That's quite the Charmander you have there, but now Sandslash use your free hand again!"

Sandslash began to its other claw for a Slash attack, Paul got nervous but then noticed something else which was Charmander's second hand glowing red. "That's Dragon Claw!"

"It learned two new moves in one battle!" Hilda exclaimed in surprise.

"I never saw a Pokemon use two new moves in a battle before," Noland said impressed.

Charmander used its new Dragon Claw move to deal damage on Sandslash's face but took more damage due to the boost from Rage. "Slash!" The sand mouse cried out in pain. "Now finish with Flamethrower!"

Sandslash was engulfed by the attack and burned to a crisp. Once the attack was finished its body was burned all over and then it fainted on the ground.

"Sandslash is unable to battle Charmander is the winner!" Sergio announced.

"That was quite the comeback," Hilda commented. "I admit Paul knows how to put on a good battle than I thought."

"Sandslash return." Noland looked at its Pokeball. "You did great now take a rest." He turned to look at Venusaur. "Venusaur, you're up!"

The Seed Pokemon walked in the center of the battlefield. "Saur!" It spoke rearing to go.

"Charmander will need rest, better call it back," Paul returned the lizard Pokemon to its Pokeball.

"A wise choice," Noland commented. "A trainer needs to make their Pokemon needs to take a break."

"Froslass stand by for battle!" Paul threw his next Pokeball and out came the snow Pokemon.

"Wow, what's that Pokemon?" Hilda took her pokedex and scanned it. "Froslass, the Snow Land Pokemon and an evolved form of Snorunt. It freezes its opponents to temperatures of minus sixty degrees. In order for it to evolve from Snorunt, it would have to be a female and use a Dawn Stone."

"A Pokemon from the Sinnoh Region, this should be good," Noland smirked confidently. "Venusaur start this off with Sludge Bomb!"

The Seed Pokemon opened its mouth hurling countless sludge balls.

"Froslass freeze that with Blizzard!" Paul commanded.

A strong blizzard wind was released in the air freezing the poison sludge balls but Venusaur was partly frozen too. "He froze the Sludge Bomb!" Hilda exclaimed.

"Not bad," Sergio commented astonished.

"Don't let this get to your head!" Noland said his confident smile not leaving his face. "Venusaur don't let the freeze get to you!"

"Venusaur!" The Seed Pokemon roared shaking off the ice. "Now use Sludge Bomb once more!"

"Blizzard again!" Paul commanded.

The Snow Land Pokemon froze the sludge bomb attack once more. "Now use Hail!" A icy mist appeared in the sky and big chunks of ice began to fall down on the battlefield damaging Venusaur.

"Wow, now Venusaur is taking damage while Hail won't do a thing to Froslass!" Hilda said excitedly.

Froslass then disappeared stunning Seigo, Hilda, and Noland seemingly. "Where did Froslass go?"

"That's Froslass Snow Cloak ability which is able to make it disappear in due Hail." Paul answered with a confident look.

Noland smirked. "I see, so you think I won't be able to find Froslass when its disappeared in the mist. A fine strategy, but, I have a back idea." Paul looked at the Battle Frontier Brain with puzzled look.

"Venusaur use Sunny Day!"

Venusaur's flower began to glow brightly like the sun itself and the sun in the air started to heat up which made the hail disappear and exposing Froslass.

Everyone was astonished and stunned. "No way!" Paul exclaimed.

"He was able to cancel the Hail effects and expose Froslass!" Hilda added.

Seigo was impressed. "Never expect less from Noland when comes to a trainer like him."

"Paul, if Sunny Day this won't effect your ice attacks however that doesn't mean your out of the woods yet," Noland said. "Use Synthesis!"

Venusaur was enveloped in a bright light recovering its body from the damage. "Thanks to Sunny Day will increase the healing of its Synthesis by 2/3."

Paul didn't flinch. "That's quite troublsome, but, I'll continue giving my all."

"I like your fighting spirit," Noland chuckled with his eyes closed before reopening them. "I think its time we end this round...Solar Beam go!"

"Oh no, not the Solar Beam!" Paul yelled looking worried.

"Thanks to Sunny Day, its Solar Beam will be able to power up more quickly," Noland informed.

Venusaur's back began to glow as sunlight energy was gathered inside the flower. Instantly, the floor opened up releasing a yellow beam of energy at Froslass.

"Froslass use Ice Beam!" Paul commanded.

The ice beam and solar beam soon connected but the grass move was able to push through nearing its opponent. Paul had a faint smile on his face. "Destiny Bond..." He whispered which his Pokemon heard as it fell down unconscious but not before releasing dark shape-like eyes that enveloped Venusaur.

"Froslass is unable to battle...so-" Sergio abruptly as he saw Venusaur laid on its stomach with dizzy eyes too. "Both Pokémon are unable to battle!"

Noland was a bit stunned. "Wait, how did that happen?"

"I used Froslass use Destiny Bond, I knew its chances of winning this round would be slim, so to make sure its battling wasn't a waste, I had it use Destiny Bond the moment it got hit by your Venusaur's Solar Beam." Paul explained.

Noland chuckled once more. "I have to admit you got me there. I wasn't expecting your Froslass to know a Ghost type move like that. I wouldn't expect nothign less from Reggie's little brother." He turned to look at Machamp. "Machamp, you're up!"

"Machamp!" The four-arm Pokemon proclaimed.

"Charmander stand by for battle!" Paul threw out his third Pokeball.

"Charmander!" The Lizard Pokemon said.

"Charmander use Flamethrower!" Paul commanded as the lizard Pokemon unleashed its attack.

"Machamp take it!" Noland commanded as his fighting Pokemon just stood still taking damage. "Why didn't he dodge it?" Hilda wondered.

Machamp just stood and then its eyes opened. "Good, now Payback!" Machamp unleashed a dark energy that hit Charmander dealing massive damage. "Char!" The lizard Pokemon was sent flying and landed on its back. "Char...mander."

"Charmander is unable to battle Machamp wins!" Sergio announced.

"That's a move called Payback, it doubles when the user is attacked before using the move," Noland explained with a confident smile.

"I can see why this guy is Battle Frontier Brain," Hilda said looking worried. "Now both have only one Pokemon remaining, however, Paul's last Pokemon didn't battle so he still has a chance."

"Charmander return." Paul looked at its Pokeball. "You did good so get some rest." He placed his Pokeball back into his pocket and got out the last. "Gliscor stand by for battle!"

"Gliscor a flying type Pokemon too, so, my fighting won't be much effective, but, that won't matter after this," Noland declared. "Machamp use Bulk Up!"

The Four Arm Pokemon began to pump its muscles and glowed dark red.

"Now Machamp's Attack and Defense will be increased." Paul commented. "But, that won't be enough to stop Gliscor!"

"Use Sky Uppercut!" The flying scorpio pulled back its right pincer and extended upwards at the muscle champ Pokemon. "Nice move but so is this, Use Ice Punch!" Machamp's fist turned into ice and punched the flying Scorpio in its side dealing super effective damage.

"Uh oh, if that attack lands again and again Gliscor won't be standing up again," Hilda said with worry. "I hope Paul has got another strategy."

"Use Knock Off!" Gliscor raised its left pincer and knocked the muscle Pokemon on the head. "Nice try but that's a dark type so using that move-" Paul wasn't finished. "Use Sky Uppercut!" This time it dealt a close-range attack which dealt some damage. "Now use Sky Uppercut again!"

"Catch it and use Vital Throw!" Machamp caught Gliscor and threw it to the ground.

"Gliscor take to the sky!" Paul commanded as his Scorpio Pokemon flew in the air.

Noland figured this would happen. "Nice try but that won't save your Gliscor! Use Stone Edge!" Machamp summoned out several stone edges and launched them at Gliscor.

"Use Sandstorm to blow them away!" Gliscor released a stream of sandy wind changing the course of stone edges.

"Ah! Mach!" Noland and Machamp exclaimed in shock.

"Now use X-Scissor!" Gliscor crossed its pincers creating a blue x-pattern.

"Machamp counter with Focus Blast!" Noland commanded.

The Superpower Pokemon gathered blue energy between its four hands and a blue energy ball appeared between them and hurled it at Gliscor's attack. Due to Bulk Up's effect, Focus Blast was able to overpower Gliscor and land a hit.

Gliscor was sent flying into the sky even higher almost losing control of its flying.

"Oh no, Gliscor!" Hilda called out in horror.

"Wrap this with Stone Edge!" Noland commanded.

"Ma-champ!" The Superpower Pokemon summoned out countless Stone edges and launched them at a falling Gliscor.

"Gliscor, I know you're stronger than that! Regain control of your flying and show me your power!" Paul encouraged which was unlike him.

Upon hearing those words leave its trainer's mouth, Gliscor reopened its eyes regaining control of its flying and began to fly directly at Machamp while its body began to glow in a light-blue color through the stone edge attack.

Noland and Machamp were stunned at this new move. Paul was sharing the same reaction. "What did move Gliscor learn?"

"Wow, Gliscor has learned Acrobatics!" Hilda stated in amazement. "Its a move that's used in the Unova Region!"

Paul smirked. "Well, not bad."

"This won't change anything, use Ice Punch with all your fists!" Noland commanded.

Machamp's four fists began to envelope in ice and was about to throw them all until Gliscor was already near and tackled its body against the Superpower Pokemon landing a super effective attack.

"Machamp no!" Noland yelled with wide eyes as he saw his Pokemon crash into the wall creating a dirt cloud.

Once the dust cloud was gone, there was Machamp sitting on the ground with its head tilt to the side unconscious with dizzy eyes. "Mac...Mac..." It spoke.

"Machamp is unable to battle Gliscor wins! The victor is Paul from Veilstone City!" Sergio announced raising his arm in Paul's direction.

"Alright, Paul won!" Hilda cheered excitedly.

"Machamp return." Noland held out his Pokemon's Pokebal and returned it with a proud smile. "I'm very proud of you, now take a good rest."

Paul smirked. "A job well done, Gliscor." Gliscor gave a small nod with a small smile.

Hilda approached the purple haired trainer. "Paul, that battle was awesome!"

"Geez, you got to be noisy about it," Paul muttered.

Multiple vein marks appeared on Hilda's head. "Noisy, I'm praising you and you say I'm noisy!" She barked comically pinching the boy's cheeks.

"Ow...ow...cut that out!" Paul spoke in a muffled tone due to the pinching to his cheeks.

Noland approached the purpled-haired trainer which made Hilda stop her pinching. "Paul, you have defeated me. Your Pokemon were impressive. Plus, your Gliscor and Charmander learning new attack moves was astounding, its obviously they trust you a lot." Paul turned to the Battle Frontier Brain. "Yeah, I intend to make them stronger than ever too."

"Glad to hear it. As a Battle Frontier Brain of the Battle Factory, I award with this the Knowledge Symbol." Noland handed the symbol which Paul nodded and bowed. "Thanks and I learned something from this battle too, so I enjoyed it."

Noland smiled. "So did I..." He opened his eyes and began to get something from his pocket. "I almost forgot you take this case it'll hold your Battle Frontier symbols." Paul smiled a little. "Thanks..."

Paul walked over to Hilda who was excited. "You won Paul, though I admit you got me worried so don't that." The purple-haired trainer huffed. "Hmph, shut up." That caused the girl to pinch his cheeks. "I was just teasing you jerk!"

Sergio snickered a little. "This is quite the scene."

Noland had to agree. "Well anyway, I wish you good luck with your future battles in the Battle Frontier." Paul glanced at the man. "Thanks." Noland wasn't finished as he turned to Hilda. "I wish you good luck with your gym battles Hilda."

The Unova trainer smiled. "Thank you, I will give it my all!"

The two trainers left. "Paul, your Charmander and Gliscor learning new moves was unexpected, I wish this Ash kid was here to see this." Paul didn't say a thing but smiled softly. "Anyway, let's get going I need to see if Misty has returned yet!"

Hilda ran off instantly. "Man, she's a pain," Paul muttered but ran off after his traveling companion. "But it's worth having her around I guess." He knew he was getting to traveling with another person, but it didn't too bad though the girl was still noisy though he didn't tell her that. For now, he'll continue to do what he can to win the Battle Frontier and do what his brother Reggie couldn't.

Winning the Knowledge Symbol was a start but Paul knows his future battles at the other Battle Frontiers would be tougher so he's got to keep training and getting stronger and learn what it means to become one with Pokemon.

End of chapter.
