Chapter 14: Gary's Sister Appears
After a crazy but fun night at Pokemon Tower, the three trainers presumed their journey to Saffron City for Paul's next Battle Frontier battle and Hilda next gym battle including Barry's too.
Soon the trio arrived at their destination.
Saffron City was more than they thought. "We're here!" Barry shouted in excitement.
"Finally!" Hilda cheered.
Paul groaned in annoyance. "Geez so loud."
The three arrived at the Pokemon center, the three gave their Pokemon to Nurse Joy so she could check them out.
The three decided to have a little snack.
Barry was stuffing his face with cheeto's with a side of soda.
Hilda groaned in disgust. "Geez keep eating like that you'll explode."
That brought an anime vein to the blonde boy's head. "How dare you say that, you're gonna to pay a fine!"
Paul facepalmed. "Geez can these idiots chill out." He drank of sip of energy drink and a sandwich as a thought occured to him. "That Battle Frontier Brain is Greta, a girl using fighting type Pokemon." His memory of his brother battling her flowed through his mind. "She was strong, she never broke a sweat."
Reggie was using his Drapion and Staraptor. "Each of them put up a good fight, only his Drapion was left while Greta had her Medicham standing in the end, Reggie emerged victorous."
Then something else occured to him. "Who knows what Pokemon she must have now." Just then the doors opened and came a woman wearing a researcher uniform. "Who's that?"
"Ah!" A young girl screamed but not out of fear but excitement.
"That's Daisy Oak!"
"Really, isn't her last name-"
Barry was interested in this. "Is she a relative of Professo Oak?"
Hilda was jumped out of her seat. "Let's go meet her!"
Paul was little interested so he got up. "This should be interesting."
Just then Daisy Oak turned her attention to the three trainers. "Oh hello, I assume you three are Paul, Hilda, and Barry?"
The three trainers were surprised. "How did you know our names?" Barry asked.
Paul had a good guess. "Its obvious that her grandfather told her about us."
Daisy giggled. "Yes, also I was told by Gary that you Paul were challenging the Battle Frontier." The purple haired trainer stared at her. "That's right."
"That look of serious is quite something." The female oak sibling giggled but then recollected herself. "As you also probably guessed I'm a Pokemon Researcher like my grandfather and Gary." She smiled proudly. "Honestly my brother has grown as far as I can remember."
"Oh, why is that?" Barry asked curiously.
Just then there was a "Ding"
Nurse Joy came out with the three trainer's pokemon. "Paul, Hilda, Barry, I'm pleased to announce that your Pokemon are fit and well."
Paul bowed his head in respect. "Thanks."
Barry instantly grabbed his Pokemon. "This is gonna to be sweet, I can wait to battle the Saffron Gym leader!"
"Hold on, I get to battle the gym leader!" Hilda put her hand in the boy's face.
Barry pulled himself away. "No way, I get to battle first!"
The two were staring at each other like glaring Mightyena's but just then Daisy Oak glared at them like a angry Snorlax. "This is a hospital, so cool it down you two!"
The two trainers froze in fear and shivered. "Yes ma'am!"
Paul was surprised by this suddeny change of demeanor from the granddaughter of Professor Oak. "That was unexpected."
The female researcher then smiled again. "Good, anyway let's take a walk together, there is a place I want to check out."
The three trainers titled their heads in wonder.
A short time later.
The gang came to the Fighting Dojo gym.
"What is this place?" Barry asked.
Daisy Oak laughed before she spoke with ecstatic look on her face. "This is Saffron City's dojo, the man in charge of this place is called the Karate King, when trainers battle him he gives away a fighting type Pokemon as a prize."
Barry was excited to hear this. "Really, does he do this every day or so?"
"Not quite, he only does this once a year." Daisy explained before she looked at the dojo. "There was a time when the two prize pokemon were Hitmonlee and Hitmochan."
"Really!" Hilda said excitedly.
"Yes, however he got a special deliver, which is two new fighting type Pokemon that live Unova." Daisy replied. "I'm here to get a look at the two new Fighting Type and observe them." She turned to the three trainers. "That's where you three come in."
The three trainers pointed at themselves expect for Paul who had realized what was the famous granddaughter of Oak was getting at. "That's right, I need you three to fight against the Karate King and win to get to see which fighting he will give.
Paul was thinking of catching another Pokemon despite that he has already a fighting type but another wouldn't hurt. "Very well, a good warm up for my battle either way."
Barry was stoked. "This is gonna to be fun!"
"I'm gonna to have to pass." Hilda put her hand out leaving everyone expect for Paul shocked. "I already caught two new Pokemon, so I'll wait before I decide to catch a new one."
Daisy smiled. "I see, that's ok."
The four entered the dojo and there ahead was the Karate King with a few of his students kneeling on each side. "Hiya!"
"Hello challengers!" A voice called out, there was a young girl with red hair. "I'm master Terri the leader of the Fighting Dojo!"
She threw punches in the air and kicks with swift without breaking a sweat. "This girl the Dojo King, I mean queen." Barry whispered to Hilda.
"It seems so, but I wouldn't judge anything."
Paul could guess this girl wasn't called the master for nothing.
"Anyway, I master Terri will have the honor of battling you three challengers!" She stood proudly with her arms crossed. "If one of you manages to win then both of you will get two of these Fighting Type Pokemon which dwell in the Unova Region!" She did more punches and kicks.
Hilda stepped in. "Oh I'm just here to watch the battling, so I'll have to pass."
Terri understood though. "I understand, no worries you can watch the battles." She looked at the two male trainers. "I see, I assume that you two are the challengers, so who's first?"
Barry stepped forward proudly. "I am!"
Terri smirked bowed her head. "Alright, what is your name?"
"I'm Barry and I come Twinleaf Town in Sinnoh!" Barry stated.
Terri was interested. "A trainer from another region, this should be good!"
The two trainers got to the battle area.
A referree was one of the dojo students. "This battle between master Terri of the Fighting Dojo and Barry from Twinleaf Town will be start, each trainer will use only one Pokemon, if one of the trainer's Pokemon isn't able to continue loses, now let the battle begin!"
Terri took out her pokeball. "Let's go Hitmontop!"
"Hitmon-top!" The fighting top head Pokemon appeared.
"Alright come on out Tepig!" Barry threw out his pokeball and out came the fire pig. "Te-pig!"
"A fire Pokemon from Unova, interesting." Terri commented with a intrigue.
"I'm first, Hitmontop use Rolling Kick!" The top Pokemon began to spin around on its top like head rapidly and going towards Tepig.
"Quick dodge it!" Barry commanded.
But before Tepig could in the blink of an eye the fire pig was hit and knocked to the ground. "Tepig!" Barry cried in shock but confusion the most. "That was fast."
"Hitmontop is fast." Paul said with his arms crossed. "Its speed is quite something when it spins on its top like head."
"Right, the more Hitmontop spins on its head the faster it gets." Terri explained. "I've been training with Hitmontop since when it was Tyrogue, we're getting even stronger too!"
Hitmontop stopped spinning and stood back on its feet. "Hit-hit-Hitmontop!" Hitmontop chanted with a confident smile.
Barry gritted his teeth. "Man, Tepig get up, I know you can!" The Fire Pig struggled to get up and it did. "Great, Tepig use Ember!"
"Hitmontop use Rapid Spin!" The top head Pokemon spun around deflecting the ember flames away.
"It used its body to deflect the Ember!" Hilda exclaimed in surprise.
Paul was impressed by this, seeing these strategies might help him in his future battles. "Wait..."
"Your battle style needs to change otherwise because other trainers might have other styles that can counter, therefore you'll be predictable." Cheren's voice said.
That's what Cheren must've meant. "As much as I hate to admit that my style must change more than I thought, so studying new ways of battling might help me become stronger and my Pokemon too."
Then he remembered something that Ash mentioned about. Remembering those times he would always try to convince him the way of raising Pokemon and how to become strong. "I'll show you a different way of battling!"
"My Pokemon are my friends, we support each other and that's how we get stronger!"
"You'll never win your way unless you support your Pokemon!"
Remembering of what Ash been trying to tell all those times was digging through his head like a drill, as far as a child that Ash can be, perhaps there were some truth to his words though it was hard for him to admit it.
"This isn't over yet!" Barry proclaimed. "Tepig Flame Charge!"
The fire pig started to stomp its feet on the ground creating some smoke and then went through it until it was engulfed in flaming charge which right into Hitmontop which hit it hard.
Hitmontop was sent backwards causing it to fall on its back. "Hitmontop no!" Terri cried out in surprise.
"Now Flame Charge again!" Barry commanded seeing a chance.
Hitmontop was hit again really fast. "How is Tepig so fast?" Terri questioned.
"Flame Charge is not just a fire attack it also increases the user's speed too." Barry explained with a cocky smile. "As long as I use it then Tepig will get faster and faster."
Terri smiled with her eyes closed. "I see, I never saw an attack that increase speed, I only saw status moves do that kind of thing, I admit you caught me off guard." She opened her eyes and got serious. "I think its time we get serious, Hitmontop use Agility!"
"I hate to admit but Barry has gotten little smarter...I guess." Paul muttered.
Hitmontop increased its speed with great ease and was able to match Tepig's speed. "Now let's try this, use Bulk Up!"
Hitmontop pumped its body up revealing its muscles and made its body glow red from all over. "That's not good." Barry said nervously. "Its the same move that Paul used against me."
Hilda was concerned. "Now Barry's got a trouble, Hitmontop's attack and defense got powered up."
Paul could see that but knew there was another problem. "Not just that now that Hitmontop's speed was increased by Agility, Barry can't win with raw power."
"Let's give it our all Tepig!" Barry called out, which made the fire pig snout fire out of its nostrils. "Use Flame charge once more!"
Which the fire pig did and charged towards the Handstand Pokemon. "Counter with Tripe Kick!" Terri commanded.
Hitmontop spung around and did a triple like kick right at Tepig's face which sent it rolling across the battle ring.
The two Pokemon's attack collided as they did both struggled to push each other away as hard as they could.
"Looks like a draw." Hilda said.
Paul thought otherwise. "I wouldn't be so sure."
His opinion was right, Hitmontop was able to push Tepig and even harder than before since its attack power was increased due to Bulk Up.
"Tepig!" Barry yelled in shock.
The fire pig was sent rolling across the ground right at Barry's feet. "You got to get up!" Tepig struggled to do so but fell down unconscious with dizzy eyes.
"Tepig is unable to battle! Hitmontop wins, the winner is Terri the Karate Master!" The referee announced.
Barry crouched down in front of his new pokemon. "Tepig, are you alright?" The fire pig looked up at his trainer with a small smile. "Te-te-pig." The blond boy took out its pokeball. "You did great, so take a good rest."
"Who's next?" Terri asked.
Paul stepped forward. "I am."
Terri observed the trainer closely. "Oh I see you got talent, I look forward to seeing what you can do."
Barry got the side. "Paul, you better win, otherwise I'll fine you."
That annoyed the purpled haired trainer but decided to let that slide for now. "I have plan to win." He thought.
Paul got to his position and took out a pokeball. "Charmander stand by for battle!"
"Char-charmander!"
"Another fire type, a starter of Kanto, this should be interesting." Terri commented with interest.
"Begin!" The referee proclaimed.
"Charmander use Fire Fang!" Paul commanded.
The lizard pokemon charged with a flaming fang.
"Hitmontop, Detect!" Terri commanded.
In the last second the Handstand Pokemon avoided the attack. "Uh oh." Paul said with a little worry.
"Use Quick Attack!" The Handstand Pokemon lunged toward the lizard pokemon and struck it in the blink of an eye.
Charmander was sent sliding across but stood its ground. "Oh so your Charmander was able to hold its ground." Terri said looking impressed. "Not bad."
Paul smiled softly. "Yes, Charmander is strong, I attend to make it stronger, we will win this battle."
"Char! Char!" Charmander said looking ready to battle.
"Ok then, Hitmontop Rolling Kick!" Terri commanded.
The Handstand Pokemon spung around and going right towards its opponent. "Hitmontop! Top! Top!
"Charmander use Dig!" Paul commanded.
Charmander dug into the ground as Hitmontop almost hit it. "So it knows Dig, good strategy."
"Now do it Charmander!" Paul commanded as the lizard pokemon attacked from underground which send Hitmontop in the air.
"Hitmontop!" Hitmontop said as it flew off into the air to a wall.
"Quick use your feet to bounce off the wall!" Hitmontop reflexed itself and used its feet bounce off the wall thus prevent itself from crashing.
"Ah!" Paul exclaimed in shock
"That was a good move." Hilda said.
"Hitmontop Rolling Kick!" Terri commanded as her Pokemon spun towards the lizard Pokemon
"Quick Flamethrower counter shield!" Paul command as the Karate master gasped at the bizzare command.
Charmander spun around using Flamerthrower which hit Hitmontop making it throw of balance and making it crash due to the burned injuries it got. "Oh no!" Terri cried out.
"Now use Dragon Claw!" Charmander charged towards with its claw glowing blue.
"Hitmontop use Detect now!" In the blink of an eye Hitmontop dodged the dragon attack.
"Charmander stand still!" Paul commanded. "Trust me on this."
The lizard Pokemon nodded remembering its Rage attack. "You can't win if you won't attack, oh well, Hitmontop use Triple Kick!"
The Handstand Pokemon landed its triple kick at the lizard pokemon which felt the damage but quickly opened its eyes feeling its power increase due to Rage. "Charmander, use Leer!" Its eyes glowed red as red shape like eyes covered Hitmontop's body from head to toe.
"Lowering my defense, quite impressive." Terri said looking impressed.
"Charmander use Slash!"
Charmander swiped its claw at Hitmontop which landed a hit and looked like it took a lot of damage. "That looked like a critical hit!" Daisy Oak exclaimed looking really impressed.
"Now let's wrap this up!" Paul proclaimed.
"My thoughts exactly, Rapid Spin then follow it up with Rolling Kick !"
Hitmontop spun around rapidly while rolling its feet around fast and going toward Charmander.
"Let's win this, Charmander use Dragon Claw then follow that up Flamethrower!" Paul commanded.
The gang gasped at the command as the lizard Pokemon combined its Flamethrower with Dragon Claw. "That's new!" Barry exclaimed in surprise.
"I never saw that combination before!" Hilda added.
Daisy Oak was intrigued at this strategy. "That's something Ash would've probably come up with."
Hitmontop and Charmander collided their attacks creating a explosion of wind and dirt.
As the dirt and wind subsided, Charmander and Hitmontop were both staring each other down in the eye, for a brief moment, one Pokemon fell and that was Hitmontop.
"Hitmontop!" Terri cried out.
"Hitmontop is unable to battle! Charmander wins, the victory goes to Paul of Veilstone City!" The referre announced.
"He did it!" Barry cheered.
"I knew he would." Hilda said cupping her hands together.
Daisy Oak was impressed but more importantly the strategy she saw was something else. "This boy is quite similiar to Ash despite his lack of passion, he doesn't give up, that's something that Ash would never do."
Terri picked Hitmontop by its arms. "Hitmontop, you ok?" The Handstand Pokemon smiled back at its trainer. "Hit-Hitmon-top."
"That's great you did awesome, so take a nice rest." The karate master returned her pokemon and walked towards the purple haired trainer. "Paul, you displayed quite a strategy, I admit I never saw thing like the moves you did, I look forward to seeing you grow more as trainer."
Paul bowed his head in respect. "Yes, I learned a bit from this battle, thank you."
Just then the door opened.
Kyle and his father the former Karate King arrived.
"Oh Kyle and Mr Hamm, its good to see you two!" Terri said happily.
"Terri, how its going?" Kyle greeted his friend.
The former master Hamm noticed the guests. "I see that we have guests, so what happened?"
Terri explained the situation. "I won against Barry, however Paul-" She eyed at the purpled haired trainer. "He won in the battle, so he gets a take one of the two new Fighting Pokemon we got awhile back."
Former Master Hamm smiled proudly. "I must say you've grown quite as the master Terri." That made the girl blush but was happy to hear that. "Thank you master Hamm...I mean Mr Hamm."
The old man just laughed. "Call me whatever you want."
"Anyway, what fighting Pokemon are you giving Paul?" Kyle asked.
Terri clapped her hands as one of the karate students brought a pokeball carrier that contained two Pokeballs. "Everyone allow to present Sawk and Throh, Pokemon that live the Unova Region!"
Hilda couldn't belive her eyes. "A Sawk and Throh, here in the Kanto!"
"Oh you know these Pokemon," Mr Hamm questioned.
"Yes, I come from Unova and that's where new Pokemon live, though none of the Pokemon that like Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, or Sinnoh live there." Hilda replied.
Mr Hamm was intrigued. "So can you show me any other fighting Pokemon you caught or seen, please!?" That made the unova trainer sweat-drop. "Uh sure."
Kyle smiled at this father's excitement. "I never seen him so excited for awhile."
"So what is your choice Paul?" Terri asked.
Paul observed the two Pokemon and took his Pokedex and scanned them both. "Hmm, quite the moves they got." He gave this more thought. "I choose-" He paused for moment.
"Sawk." Paul looked at the Karate Pokemon. "So do you want come along with me?"
Sawk smirked with a nod. "So be it, we got some training to do." He took its pokeball and returned it.
"Congratulations Paul!" Barry cheered.
"Yes, you got a new Fighting Pokemon!" Hilda commented.
Mr Hamm noticed Daisy. "Hold on, are you Daisy Oak?"
The woman nodded. "Yes, I guess heard of me,"
"Yes, to think I would meet Professor Oak's granddaughter here, this is quite opportunity!" Mr Hamm said.
Bruuu
Barry's stomach growled. "I guess I'm hungry."
Bruuu
Hilda's stomach reacted too. "You're not only one."
"Geez can you two can your stomachs?" Paul groaned but to his embarrassment, his stomach growled too.
"You were saying?" Hilda asked mockingly.
"Shut up." Paul muttered clearly embarrassed.
"In that case I'll whip up some noodles!" Kyle proclaimed.
"Oh boy I'm starving!" Barry said drooling a bit.
The gang had their noodles which was delicious, Paul had to admit that too, the noodles were quite good, their Pokemon had their lunch too.
Throh decided to eat too and with the trainer's Pokemon, though it was little disappointed that it didn't get picked which Daisy noticed, so she decided to have a talk with Mr Hamm.
After awhile lunch was over.
Paul, Barry, Hilda, and Kyle along with Terri went outside the entrance doors of the Karate Dojo.
"I wish you three good luck on your journey and hope to see you three stronger as trainers." Kyle bowed his head.
"Take care of Sawk, Paul." Terri said bowing her head.
"I will." Paul bowed his head even though this time it felt awkward.
"Where is Daisy?" Hilda asked.
"Oh, she's talking with my dad." Kyle glanced inside and then noticed the young female researcher coming towards the entrance. "So what did you discuss with my father?"
Daisy took out the Pokeball and out came Throh. "Your father gave me Throh."
The trainers along with Kyle and Terri were surprised. "I saw its disappointed look, I could tell it wanted to go on a journey, so I talked with your father and he decided to overlook the rules for this time and let me have Throh." Daisy explained. "I will give you my word master Terri and Kyle that I will take of it, show it the world as much as I can."
Terri smiled happily. "Thank you, just call me Kyle." Daisy laughed. "Alright."
Kyle turn to Throh and bowed in respect. "Throh, take care."
Throh pulled its black belt and bowed in respect. "Hmm!"
Kyle was happy to hear this and bowed in respect too. "Take care Throh."
Daisy walked over to the three trainers. "Paul, Hilda, and Barry, I know its much to ask, I would like to join you guys for awhile, I want to see how much skills as trainers you have, also we can get to know each other more."
"That's great, it'd be awesome to have a famous Pokemon researcher with us!" Barry shouted excitedly.
"Yeah, you can show us your Pokemon too, maybe we can battle too!" Hilda added sharing the enthusiasm.
Paul smiled softly. "Very well, that's fine with me."
"Wow, you look happy!" Barry said looking surprised. "I haven't seen you smiled before either!"
"Shut up." Paul muttered turning his head away.
"Huh, for that comment, I'll fine ya!" Barry shouted comically waving his arms like a child.
Hilda giggled at this while Kyle and Terri sweat dropped.
Daisy Oak smiled at the scene. "This is quite amusing."
Paul caught a Pokemon that lives in Unova, and is a fighting type, now Daisy Oak the granddaughter of Professor Oak and the sister of Gary joins the three trainers in their journey for awhile, what else awaits for them, find out soon.
End of chapter.
