Chapter 24: Rematch with Sabrina

Early in the morning.

Kate was at Vermillion City's Pokemon Center.

"Nurse Joy, I would like my Pokemon to get a check-up for my first gym battle here," She requested.

The famous nurse smiled. "It would be my honor, just wait over there, and I'll be back with your Pokemon soon."

Hilda was up already too, still thinking of what other Pokemon she should use. "Accelgor is one of my Pokemon I want to use, however, what should be the two other Pokemon I should use."

She gave some deep thought for a few minutes while closing her eyes. "I think I need to make a phone call."

She went over the center's communication screen and dialed a certain number.

Professor Oak was asleep though, Tracey was in his lab preparing some morning meals. He heard the phone ringing. "Who could that be?" He wondered as he walked over to the computer.

On the screen, Hilda's face appeared. "Oh hi there, is Professor Oak there?"

Tracey laughed sheepishly. "Oh sorry, he's still asleep, I woke up already and decided to start an early breakfast."

"Oh Tracey, hello, I guessed I should've called later..." Hilda said a little embarrassed.

"Oh no, if you need something don't hesitate to ask me," Tracey chuckled.

Hilda began to explain about her upcoming rematch.

"Oh Sabrina, yeah, she's quite tough, so, you want me to call your Pokemon, so you can decide which ones will be suited to battle her Pokemon," Tracey acknowledged his friend's situation, who nodded in response. "Alright, then, hold on."

Hilda's Pawnird, Watchog, Emolga along with other new Unova Pokemon Scraggy, Unfezant(the female one), Herdier, and Gothortia were shown on screen.

The Unova trainer began to ponder which one she should exchange. "Hmm..." She then came to a decision. "I choose-

Timeskip...

Paul and Daisy woke up getting ready for their friend's rematch.

Hilda was already who was waiting for them.

This of course surprised Paul for once. "Were you up already, that's surprising."

Hearing that made an anime vein appear on Hilda's head. "I was giving more thought so I made a call to Professor, now, I got my three Pokemon lined up!"

Paul's eye twitched in confusion. "What do you mean?"

Hilda just smiled.

Later they returned to the gym.

Hilda pat her pokeballs. "Guys, let's do this."

She opened the doors and walked through the hallway with Paul and Daisy behind her.

"Knowing her, she's going to use the same Pokemon from before, however, who knows what else she has in mind, on top of that, I didn't get to see her third Pokemon." She thought. "Psychic Pokemon are strong Pokemon, though, some can fight only with psychic powers but some can fight with hand-to-hand combat too."

They soon came to the area room, torches were lit as usual.

Sabrina was in her usual chair. "I see you came for your rematch." She smiled and stood up from her chair. "I hope you came up with some good strategies to win this battle."

Hilda looked into the Psychic woman's eyes. "We'll have to see, but, I intend to win."

Sabrina's father smiled. "Hilda, I hope to see what you can do with this!"

Hilda glanced at the old man. "Don't worry, I'll be sure to give Sabrina a challenge."

Sabrina used her telekinesis to toss her Pokeball. "Come out Mr. Mime!"

"Mr. Mime!" The Mime Pokemon spoke.

"I figured you'd use that Pokemon first," Hilda said with confidence in her tone as she took out a Pokeball. "I choose...Eevee!"

"Oh, it's Eevee," Sabrina said calmly. "I hope you have a good strategy."

Hilda smiled with confidence. "I do, but, you'll have to see yourself."

"The battle between Sabrina and Hilda will start!" Sabrina's father announced.

"Let's start, Eevee, Quick Attack!"

Sabrina chuckled like she predicted that. "Thought so, Mr. Mime use Reflect."

A blue barrier of light-shielded the Mime Pokemon reducing the physical move.

A faint smile quickly formed on Hilda's face. "Quick, use Shadow Ball!"

The Evolution Pokemon hurled a shadow-like ball of energy which landed on Mr. Mime's face knocking it away hard.

"Ahhh!" Sabrina exclaimed in surprise.

"Not bad, she used Quick Attack as a distraction," Daisy spoke.

Paul was a little impressed, though, he knew Sabrina wasn't going to let another surprise move like that happen again.

"Mr. Mime, don't let that get to you, use Light Screen!" A yellow barrier of light soon covered the Mime Pokemon.

"Now use Psybeam!"

Mr. Mime gathered between its hands and unleashed a psychic energy beam toward Eevee.

"Double Team!" Eevee began to create illusions of themselves one by one, then there were about six Eevees.

"Use a barrage of Quick Attacks!" Hilda commanded.

The six Eevees began to swiftly dash against Mr. Mime's body dealing some damage, despite the Reflect's effect.

"Even though, Mr. Mime's Reflect decreases the power of regular physical moves, using Double Team along with Quick Attacks like that will still deal some damage," Daisy said impressed.

Paul hated to admit it, but, for once, he was impressed. "To think she would come up with something like that."

"Mr. Mime, stay focused, sense where the real Eevee is!" Sabrina commanded.

Mr. Mime stood calm and began to focus, sensing the movements of each Eevee.

Eevee's presence, the real one, was about to attack again.

"Use Drain Punch!" Everyone gasped at the attack move that was just called.

Mr. Mime pulled back its left arm and its left fist was surrounded by a green orb of energy and punched Eevee in the face.

Eevee was knocked onto the ground, and taken super effective damage.

"Drain Punch, that was unexpected," Daisy said still surprised.

Paul didn't say a word.

Hilda gritted her teeth. "Dang, Drain Punch is a move from the Unova Region, on top of that, it's a fighting move that is effective against Normal Types, I have to be careful, one strike from that attack could defeat Eevee."

Eevee was able to get back on its feet despite the damage. "Ee...vee..."

Sabrina smiled like she was impressed. "Your Eevee is gutsy, I admit, let's continue this. Use Psybeam this time!"

Mr. Mime gathered psychic energy between his hands and fired a psychic beam of energy.

"Eevee, dodge it using Quick Attack and use Double Team again!" Hilda commanded.

Eevee swiftly dodged the Psybeam and began to create illusions of itself once more, and each one was dashing towards the Mime Pokemon.

Sabrina just smiled calmly. "I thought you'd do that, Drain Punch again!"

Mr. Mime thrust its fist forward and landed a punch on Eevee, plus sending him crashing into the ground.

"Oh no!" Hilda cried in shock.

Eevee was barely holding on, but, it was still able to fight. "Eevee...Eevee..."

Sabrina giggled. "I think it's time we end this round, Mr. Mime finish this with another Drain Punch!"

Mr. Mime threw his fist forward.

Hilda was in a jam, she knew if that attack made contact again, this round would be over, "I refuse to lose like this again! Eevee I believe in you, let's show what you're made of!"

Hearing that encouragement, made Eevee's eyes get sharp and she winked at Mr. Mime, then some shape-like hearts began to float into the air and circle around Mr. Mime's head.

"What the..." Hilda wondered in confusion.

The hearts gathered together and soon Mr. Mime was infatuated.

"Whoa, that was Attract!" Daisy exclaimed.

"Oh no!" Sabrina gasped in shock.

Hilda was astonished. "Wow, Eevee learned a new move after I needed it the most, yes, Eevee, use Trump Card while it's immobilized!"

Eevee nodded and unleashed its Trump Card moves, it fired one, then two, and three...

"Mr. Mime snap out of it!" Sabrina called.

Her calls were having no effect as Mr. Mime continued to be all swoon.

"Use the fourth Trump Card now!" Hilda commanded.

Using the fourth Trump Card, which was four times as strong and dealt a critical hit that sent Mr. Mime flying away into one of the gym's pillars causing smoke.

"Mr. Mime no!" Sabrina yelled in a panic.

Once the smoke cleared, Mr. Mime was sitting on the ground with dizzy eyes.

"Mr. Mime is unable to battle! Eevee wins!" Sabrina's father announced.

"You did Eevee, you were great!" Hilda yelled excitedly as she hugged her Pokemon.

Sabrina took out Mr. Mime's Pokeball and returned it. "You were great Mr. Mime, you take a good rest," She said as she looked in Hilda's direction. I must admit, you took me off guard, knowing that my Mr. Mime was a male and using Attract would leave him immobilized."

"Thanks, Sabrina," Hilda replied with a smile.

Sabrina placed Mr. Mime Pokeball in her pocket and took out her second Pokeball. "I think it's time we get for round 2, go Alakazam!"

"Alakazam!"

"Looks who's up," Hilda said quietly, she looked at Eevee, seeing it was tired. "Eevee, you'll need rest, so, return for now."

"Good thinking, Eevee is sure to be tired from its battle, so, she'll give it some rest for the time being," Daisy commented.

Paul didn't say a word, though, the female professor was right. "She's thinking ahead, at least, that's what I hope."

Hilda took out her second Pokeball. "I think it's time, I choose Pawniard!"

Sabrina was intrigued. "Oh, it's a new Pokemon I've never seen, I assume that's Pokemon from the Unova?"

"That's correct, it's Steel and Dark Type too," Hilda replied.

Paul facepalmed. "That idiot..."

"Thanks for that details," Sabrina smiled. "Alakazam, Calm Mind!"

"She's increased both of Alazakam's Special attack and defense," Daisy said.

"it's time for us to do the same, Pawniard use Swords Dance!"

The Sharp Blade Pokemon began to perform a frenetic dance while its blades glowed purple.

"Increasing the attack power, I see," Sabrina summarized. "But, will that be enough?"

"We'll see, use Iron Head!"

Pawniard lowered its head and the blade sticking out of its head turned into iron from the base of the tip and jumped into the air plus flying at the Psi Pokemon.

"Alakazam use Charge Beam!" The Psi Pokemon gathered electrical energy between its hands and fired a massive blast of electricity.

Pawniard's Iron Head and Alakazam's Charge Beam soon collided as the two Pokemon continued their attacks while trying to push each other back.

The two attacks soon exploded causing strong shockwaves to blow around the room.

"Their attacks are equal!" Hilda said as she covered her face with her arms. "Though, Charge Beam is going to make it difficult if it manages to power up Alakazam's Special attacks again and again."

Sabrina barely felt the strong shockwave. "I'm sure you remember the effects of using Charge Beam, well, I don't remind you since I can tell by the concerned look on your face."

Hilda narrowed her eyes. "Yeah, but, this battle is not ending that way, Pawniard use Night Slash!"

"Alakazam, Focus Punch!"

Pawniard's purple glowing blade and Akakazam's fist collided creating streams of energy to flow into the air as they struggled to push each other away, both with determination in their eyes.

Sabrina then smirked. "Use Fire Punch!"

Hilda, Daisy, and Paul gasped at the surprise move.

Alakazam used its other free hand and fire surrounded its fist delivering a fiery punch right into Pawniard's face.

"Pawniard no!" Hilda exclaimed in shock.

Pawniward was crashing on its back while cringing in pain after taking super effective damage.

"That was a super effective move, she wanted Pawniard to come in close so that she could attack in close," Daisy said impressed.

Paul had to admit that's something he would do. "Not bad."

"This round shall be mine," Sabrina declared with a confident smile. "Alakazam use Fire Punch once more!"

Alakazam charged with a fiery fist and was getting closer to Pawniard.

"Use Rock Polish!" Everyone gasped as Pawniard began to polish itself and dodged the fiery fist with new fast speed.

"Uh oh..." Sabrina said quietly.

"Use Rock Polish again!" Hilda commanded again.

Pawniard polished itself again increasing its speed once more and making more fast than it was before.

Alakazam turned its head from left to right, again and again, barely catching a glimpse of its opponent due to its new fast speed.

"Alakazam, focus, and sense where Pawniard is like you did before!" Sabrina commanded quickly.

Hilda wasn't going to let that happen. "Pawniard use Night Slash before it can sense you!"

Successfully, the Sharp Blade Pokemon manage to slash the Psi Pokemon dealing super effective damage, which seemed to have dealt a critical hit too.

"Night Slash also has a critical hit ratio, so, the damage Alakazam will take will be more damaging," Paul summarized.

"Now, finish this up with Iron Head!"

Pawniard jumped into the air and flew down with its head pointing downwards.

"Alakazam, let's not go down so easily, use Fire Punch at full power!"

The two Pokemon collided with their attacks at the same time as they struggled to get push each other away.

Their attacks were so overwhelming that they caused an explosion that large smoke and strong winds blew all around the battle room.

Hilda and Sabrina covered their faces with their arms as well as Paul and Daisy did.

As soon as the smoke cleared, Alakazam and Pawniard will to the ground unconscious.

"Alakazam and Pawniard are about unable to battle!" Sabrina's father announced.

Hilda returned Pawniard and smiled. "Pawniard, you were great, take a good rest."

Sabrina looked at Alakazam's Pokeball and smiled proudly. "Alakazam, you did well, I'm proud of you." She looked in Hilda's direction. "Well, looks like we're almost even, I can't remember the last I was only left with one Pokemon."

"True, but, I got two Pokemon, only one hasn't battled while Eevee has," Hilda stated.

Sabrina giggled. "True, but, enough with the small talk, it's time to show my final Pokemon, go Gengar!"

"Gengar!"

"A Gengar?" Hilda questioned in surprise as she look out her Pokedex. "Gengar, the Shadow Pokemon, it's the final evolved form of Haunter, when a Gengar is nearby, it is said to feel ten degrees colder than normal."

"Yes, this was once the Haunter that helped me laugh, it used to belong to Ash, but, he's now with me," Sabrina said with a smile. "I intend to use it and show far it came, perhaps if you guys meet Ash someday, one of you can tell that Haunter has evolved and is doing great."

Hilda had no qualms with that. "Sure, in fact, if all of us bump into this Ash person, then, we'll tell him together."

Paul felt a bit weird at that, though, he admitted that he had no trouble revealing to the Ghost Pokemon Gastly and Gengar about Ash's traveling.

"In that case, I'll choose Eevee!" Hilda threw her Pokemon's Pokeball.

"Eevee!" The Evolution Pokemon said looking raring to go.

"I see you recovered a bit, let's win this!" Hilda declared. "Eevee use Shadow Ball!"

Eevee hurled a black ball of energy from its mouth.

"Use Dark Pulse!"

Gengar gathered a purple orb of energy in its hands and then fired a beam of dark and purple rings of energy.

The dark purple beam and shadow-like ball collided in midair both were seemingly matched, or, at least for a moment...

The Dark Pulse managed to destroy the Shadow Ball which landed in front of Eevee and sent it flying away and crashing onto the ground with a hard thump.

"Eevee!" Hild cried.

Eevee stood up but was barely standing upright. "Looks like Eevee took a lot of damage, one more hit, it'll be over." Hilda thought. "Gengar used to belong to Ash when it was a Haunter, though, it didn't battle to defeat Sabrina, it used humor and gags."

Sabrina smiled. "I see that Gengar's strength has you troubled, Ash thought using it would help him in type advantage and he's right, but, I suppose Gengar saw how I didn't show any signs of emotions, so, he decided to help me."

Daisy had to admit that Sabrina had a point. "She's right, Ash was reckless and a little dense, but, he has a good heart, on top of that, he knows what Pokemon and trainers should be doing to become strong."

"Though, I suppose I'm not the only one that doesn't show emotions," Sabrina then eyed Paul, who realized who she was referring to.

"Anyway, Gengar is strong, but, that's the least of your worries,"

Gengar vanished into thin air. "Where'd it go!?" Hilda questioned.

Eevee began to look around trying to see where Gengar was, but, saw no sign of it.

"Hypnosis."

Gengar appeared out of nowhere in front of Eevee. "Gengar...Gengar..." It put its hands together and released black circles that expanded towards Eevee.

Eevee started to get sleepy-eyed as it fell on the ground. "Oh no!" Hilda exclaimed.

Sabrina smiled. "Finish this with Dream Eater!"

Gengar released a shadow-like version of itself at the sleepy Evolution Pokemon and went through it sucking up the last of its energy.

Eevee was sent falling onto the ground with dizzy eyes.

"Eevee is unable to battle! Gengar wins!" Sabrina's father announced.

"Good job, Gengar," Sabrina praised as the Shadow Pokemon nodded in response.

Hilda returned her Eevee to its Pokeball and smiled. "Eevee, you were good, now get some rest." She looked at Gengar. "So, that's the power of Gengar, this Pokemon won't be easy, however, I need to have faith, so, I'll take out my third Pokemon."

She took out her third Pokemon's Pokeball and tossed it. "Come out Vulpix!"

Paul groaned. "I was hoping she would be a little smarter."

Daisy disagreed. "Hold on, she must have a strategy, so, let's just wait and see."

"So, Vuplix is back, I hope you trained it well enough," Sabrina said.

"I did, I intend to win," Hilda said with determination in her tone. "Vulpix use your Flamethrower!"

"Gengar Dark Pulse!"

The flame breath and the dark beam of energy were fired directly which collided giving off strong tense pressures.

"Are they equally matched?" Hilda questioned.

The two attacks exploded creating black smoke.

"Gengar disappear now!" Sabrina commanded.

The Shadow Pokemon disappeared once more.

"Great, this again," Hilda muttered.

Vulpix searched around for Gengar. "Vulpix...Vulpix..."

"Use Shadow Ball!"

Shadow energy-like ball was hurled towards the Fox Pokemon.

"Vulpix uses Quick Attack to dodge it!" Hilda quickly commanded.

Vulpix sped away just in time before it landed its mark.

Sabrina just smiled calmly. "Fast, but, it'll take more than that, use Shadow Ball again and again!"

More Shadow Balls were hurled down at Vulpix, but, was able to dodge using Quick Attack.

Hilda was glad that Vulpix's speed was helping, but, she knew that it couldn't keep up for long.

Paul saw the look on the girl's face. "She knows she can't keep dodging, sooner or later, Vulpix will get cornered."

Daisy heard the purple-haired trainer's words. "Yes, that kind of strategy can be predictable, especially when speed can also be a weakness sometimes."

Vulpix was soon in the corner. "Oh no!" Hilda cried.

"Use Dark Pulse!"

A purple and black circle pattern beam was fired directly at the Fox Pokemon.

"Quick use Flamethrower!"

Duplex unleashed its fiery breath which collided with the dark beam.

Only this time, the flamethrower was overpowered by the Dark Pulse which landed its mark on Vulpix.

Vulpix was sent tumbling on the side rolling until it stopped on its stomach.

"Vulpix!" Hilda cried in shock.

"I admit you trained well, those strategies you used on the two matches were good, though, it seems the training you did wasn't enough," Sabrina said while narrowing her eyes. "If this is all you got, then this battle is over."

Hilda gritted her teeth while clenching her fist in frustration. "No..."

Sabrina's eyebrow rose. "Hmm?"

"I know my training has paid off, though, perhaps I still have a lot to learn, but, that doesn't mean I won't give up that easily, I refuse to go down as we did before!" Hilda declared with determination. "Vulpix, I know you're down, but, if you can still battle, then...LET'S SHOW THEM HOW WE IMPROVED TOGETHER!"

Those words made Vulpix's eyes open with determination. "Vulpix!"

"Alright, use Flamethrower, only this time while firing it move your head left and right as fast as you can!"

Everyone gasped as Gengar quickly disappeared.

The Flamethrower was firing toward the Shadow Pokemon in a zigzag pattern due to Vuplix moving its head.

Gengar reappeared as it was the flames managed to scorch it while cringing in pain.

"Now use Confuse Ray!" Hilda commanded.

Vulpix's body was surrounded by multiple brown-gold balls of energy and fired them at the opponent which surrounded Gengar and exploded.

"Oh no!" Sabrina exclaimed.

Gengar began to attack itself. "Gengar! Gengar!"

Paul was a little impressed.

"Alright!" Daisy laughed feeling ecstatic.

"Now follow up with Will-O-Wisp!"

Light blue fireballs were summoned around Vulpix and sent them directly at the Shadow Pokemon which made contact with his body plus burned him.

"Oh no, Gengar!" Sabrina pointed out.

Daisy was more impressed than ever. "Good, she's weakened Gengar than before using Will-O-Wisp!"

"I got one more trick up my sleeve, it's a new ghost-type move that's only used in the Unova, use Hex, Vuplix!"

"Hex?" Sabrina and Paul questioned.

Vuplix's eyes glowed purple and light purple creating a sphere of black energy with a red eye in the middle and releasing multiple dark blue rings of energy at Gengar.

"Hex is Ghost Type, also, when a Pokemon's target is confused, Hex's effect will double the damage!" Hilda explained.

"No way!" Sabrina exclaimed.

Gengar was seriously damaged from the energy dark blue rings and additionally took more damage due to Will-O-Wisp's burn effect.

After a while, Gengar knelt for a moment before looking at Vulpix, it smiled slightly and then fell on its face unconsciously.

"Gengar is unable to battle! Vulpix is the winner! Therefore the winner is Hilda from Nuvema Town!" Sabrina's father announced.

Hilda was stunned for a moment and jumped for joy. "Vulpix, we did, you were great!" She embraced her Fox Pokemon, who snuggled against her trainer with joy.

Daisy smiled proudly. "Well done."

Paul had to admit that battle was good and a faint smile formed on his face only for a minute.

Sabrina took on Gengar's Pokeball. "Return Gengar." She smiled proudly at the ball. "I'm very proud of you, you take a good rest."

"Hilda, that was a great battle, you different strategies and surprising moves that I saw before, that Hex move, I have never seen that move before, I should teach Gengar that move," Sabrina said with a laugh.

Hilda was still holding Vulpix in her arms. "Thanks, Sabrina, you were great too."

Eevee and Pawniard suddenly came out of their Pokeballs. "You two came out of your Pokeballs!"

"It would seem they want to be part of this victory too," Daisy guessed.

Sabrina took out the Marsh badge. "Here, this is proof of your victory, the Marsh badge."

"Alright, Marsh Badge is ours!" Hilda stated excitedly.

"Vulpix!"

"Eevee!"

"Pawniard!"

Hilda looked at Paul. "Paul, I wasn't too bad out there, right?"

Paul chuckled a bit. "It was a good battle, I hope you prove that when we battle again someday."

Hilda giggled. "Acting tough as always, I'll let you off the hook."

"So, what do we know?"

"The Battle Dome, which is the south side of Lavender Town," Daisy answered.

"We just passed that town, we could've gone there!" Hilda pouted.

"Sure, but, I still have the training and some studying to do before I challenge Tucker," Paul said. "Which reminds me, I need to call Reggie to send some Pokemon for me."

"Good idea, he's battled Tucker before, he could give you some advice," Daisy commented.

Paul scoffed. "The last thing I want is advice, but, I suppose it wouldn't hurt."

"Acting tough as always," Hilda shrugged. "Anyway, who cares, let's celebrate with a good meal!"

"Loud are you," Paul muttered.

"What was that you insensitive jerk!" Hilda barked as she comically pulled the boy's cheeks.

"This again," Daisy sighed but, part of her thought the comical scene was funny.

Sabrina giggled. "So lively."

Katie arrived at the Vermillion City Gym.

"Lt. Surge is going to be hard to beat, but, I intend to win with the Pokemon I choose to use, I hope to catch some new Pokemon in the Kanto."
