Detroit, Michigan
Inside the Department of Child and Family Services sat social worker Renae Evans. She was seated at her desk looking over a case file of one of the foster kids Londyn Davis. Londyn has been in the foster care system for the past 3 years. She has been bounced around from home to home due to physical and emotional abuse. Her mother was sent to prison on drugs and child neglect and abuse charges and her father was unknown. There were no other relatives that were willing to take her in.
For the past 4 years, Renae has been trying to find the identity of Londyn's father, but no information has come upon him, and Londyn's mother Ashely Davis refuses to give his name to her. Ashley claims that Londyn's father left when she found out that she was pregnant which left her a single mother. For Renae, it's hard to tell if this is true because Ashley is known for telling lies to CPS and the authorities.
A couple of days later after Renae talked with her boss Renae decided to visit Ashley in prison. Ashley has been working in the social work business for about 10 years now, and when she sees children going to live with good families it makes her happy, seeing the smiles on those kids' faces, and seeing them thrive. Her goal for Londyn is to find her father and see if he is capable and willing to raise a child and to see if Ashley's claims are true.
Women's Correctional Facility
Renae got checked through security and an officer led her to a cold and empty room to wait for Ashley. Renae took a seat at the table and took a deep breath and folded her hands on the table. She always got nervous about going to these prisons. You never know what you are going to witness while you are there, and she always had an eerie feeling every time she stepped into the facilities.
The metal door opened and in walked Ashley Davis with her handcuffed. Her hair was pulled back into a low ponytail, her expression was blank. She took a seat across from Renae. Renae gave her a warm smile which Ashley did not return.
"What do you want now?" Ashley asks coldly.
Renae is used to Ashley's mannerisms so it didn't bother her or strike her as being rude.
"I came here because I want what's best for your daughter. She has been removed from five foster homes in the past month for abuse. She needs a stable home life." Renae says.
Ashley shrugs, "Okay, what does that have to do with me, there is not much that I can do. I am stuck in this place", she says.
Renae starts, "I want you to give me the information on her father. Even just a name. I want to talk to him myself. Maybe he is a changed man, and would love to get to know his daughter."
Ashley takes a deep breath. "I told you, he left when I found out that I was pregnant, he would have stayed if he wanted to raise a child. He left me a struggling single mom," she spat angrily.
Some days Renae felt bad for Ashley, wondering if the accusations that she was making toward Londyn's father were true. Is it worth taking the risk of finding her father?
"Please, Ashley, just give me a name, and I promise I won't bother you again with this. I know that you had your struggles as a single mom, but Londyn is suffering emotionally and physically in these foster homes, don't you want to see her happy?" says Renae.
Ashley slouches in her chair, and sighs, "Fine, I will give you his name, but If he does show that he is capable of taking care of a child, I don't want to have anything to do with it. I don't want to see or talk to him or my daughter", she says non emotionally. Renae agrees and nods her head noting that she understands.
"His name is Adam Ruzek."
