Renae heads back to the Child and Family Services Department, to try and find as much as she can about Londyn's father Adam Ruzek. Ashely only gave little information about him, so she has to do her best with what she can work with.
After searching and searching, Renae was able to find Londyn's birth father. He is a detective in the intelligence unit at the Chicago Police Department. Renae makes a note on her calendar, to get into contact with him, she walks into her boss's office to inform him of the information that she found.
Renae knocks on her boss's office door, "What can I do for you Miss Evans" her boss Kathy says, stopping from what she was doing on her computer.
"I have got some information on Londyn's father, his name is Adam Ruzek and he is a detective in the intelligence unit here in Chicago. I think it's worth a shot to try and speak with him".
Kathy sighs, she knows that Renae has been searching for Londyn's father since she came into the system, but Kathy thinks that Renae is getting too close to her case. "Don't you think you are getting too close to this case?" She asked the young social worker.
Renae gives her a slight smile, "I'm just doing my job, and I am Londyn's social worker, it's in my best interest as a social worker to find her a safe place to live and be cared for. So is it okay, if I get in contact with her father?" Renae asks.
Kathy sighs once more, "Fine, but he better turn out to be a good man, or you just wasted all your time searching for him" she states coldly. Renae thanks her and leaves her office going back to her desk.
Meanwhile, at the Chicago Police Department, Detective Adam Ruzek sat at his desk. He was supposed to be filling out paperwork, but his mind was somewhere elsewhere. He was thinking about the downfall of his relationship with his coworker Officer Kim Burgess. They were in a happy relationship, but then after her kidnapping, miscarriage, and going through the adoption of her daughter Makayla, their relationship took a turn. Adam moved out of the apartment, after constant arguments and disagreements with Kim and got his place, don't get him wrong he will always care about Kim and Makayla, but it was best for them not to be together, for now.
Adam's cell phone vibrating on his desk brought him back to reality. He picked up his phone and saw a number he didn't recognize, he went into the hallway and answered it. "This is Detective Adam Ruzek" he answers.
"Hi, Detective Ruzek, this is Renae Evans calling from Children and Family Services from Detroit Michigan, do you have a moment to talk?" she asks him.
"Of course", he says. He didn't know why Children and Family Services would be calling him maybe about a previous case he had worked on, he thought to himself.
"Do you know someone by the name of Ashley Davis"? she asks him. Adam's heart skipped a beat, he hadn't heard that name in years.
"Um, yes I know her, she's an ex-girlfriend of mine, is everything ok," he asks her.
"Ashley is currently serving a sentence at Women's Correctional Facility here in Detroit on drugs, child abuse, and neglect charges. She has a 9-year-old daughter Londyn, who is currently in the system, due to being taken away by her mother. I have recently talked to Ashley because I have been trying to get some information out of her about her birth father, and from her words, she states that it's you" she finishes.
Silence can be heard on the phone, and Adam is shocked. He has a daughter, why didn't Ashley tell him, yeah they didn't have the best relationship, but it would have been nice if she told him this shocking news 9 years earlier instead of 9 years later.
"I can tell this is a shock to you. Ashley has told me, that her father, you, I guess I should say, walked out of her life when you found out that she was pregnant" Renae states. She would like to hear from him if this claim is true or not.
Adam was dumbfounded, he would never do something like this. Yeah, some people might see him as an immature guy who makes irrational decisions, but he would never just abandon someone he loved, especially if they were pregnant. "No, that's not true at all, I didn't even know Ashley was pregnant, we broke up about 9 years ago when I found out that she was cheating on me with one of her coworkers," he says.
This got Renae thinking, if Ashley was with Adam nine years ago, but was also with another guy, could Adam be her birth father? Adam seemed to read her mind, by what he said over the phone. "Could we do a paternity test, to confirm this information, I mean Ashley is known to lie about some things, and I just want to be sure" he asks her over the phone.
"Of course, I think that will be best, I will send you the paternity test kit in the mail, it should take about 3-5 business days for the test results to come back and we will go from there. Do you have any other questions for me?" She asks him.
Adam shakes his head, "no I think I'm okay." That was a lie, Adam was far from okay if the results turn back that he is the father of this child, how will the news change his life, is he capable of raising a kid on his own? Adam and Renae both say their goodbyes and hang up the call. Adam returns to his desk, acting like the news that he got didn't just rock his world upside down.
