Adam couldn't sleep. He lay awake staring up at the ceiling, wondering what Londyn was doing right now. Is she awake, or sleeping like how he should be? He decided to check on her, he didn't want to intrude, but he just wanted to make sure that she was okay. Adam gets up out of bed and quietly walks from his room to Londyn's room.

He carefully opened Londyn's bedroom door and peeked inside. Adam saw her curled up under the blankets, cuddling the new doll that he got her. She looked so peaceful. Adam smiled, shut the door quietly, and walked inside the kitchen to grab a glass of water.

He sat down at the table thinking, this was really his life now. He thought his nerves were dying down, but they continued to eat him up inside. Londyn is going to be permanently staying with him. No one is going to come to pick her up in the morning, or any day for that matter. He needed someone to talk to, but who? His unit has no idea that Londyn exists. Adam is planning on telling them eventually, he can't hide her forever.

Adam went to stand up to put his cup in the sink when he saw Londyn standing in the doorway. Even in the darkness, Adam could see her eyes glistening with tears. Adam rushed towards her and crouched down.

"I had a nightmare," she said. "I was calling your name, but you didn't hear me."

This broke Adam's heart. Was he so lost in thought, that he didn't hear his daughter calling for him?

"I'm sorry, I didn't hear you. I must have been daydreaming" he said, Adam kicked himself feeling bad that he did not hear his frightened daughter calling out for him.

"Could you stay with me until I fall asleep?" she asked him. Her voice rasping from crying.

"Of course, I can." Adam took her hand and led her back to her bedroom. Londyn climbed up into her bed and Adam gently tucked her in. He sat down on the bed next to her and put an arm around her to give her comfort. Londyn didn't seem to mind it. Eventually, she drifted off to sleep.

Londyn was still sleeping in her bed when Adam woke up the next morning. He walked into the kitchen and started cooking breakfast. He thought back to the previous night, he wondered what Londyn's nightmare was about. The social worker did say that she would have them sometimes, but he wonders how often.

Londyn's eyes fluttered open, and at first, was confused about where she was at. But then, the previous days all came flowing back to her. Renae tells her that she found her father, met him, and now living with him. Londyn looked around her bedroom and smiled to herself. Her room was warm and cozy. Besides the nightmare, she slept pretty well last night. Nobody came into her room yelling at her, or bothering her while she slept. This was the life that Londyn had dreamed of since entering the system.

Londyn got up out of bed when she heard noises in the kitchen. She shuffled out of her room, out into the hallway, and into the kitchen.

Adam was finishing breakfast when he saw Londyn come into the kitchen.

"Good morning," he said, wiping his hands on a dish towel.

"Morning," she said. She sat down on the barstool at the kitchen island.

"I like your apartment it's cozy and quiet" Adam smiles at her. Thanking her.

"I was thinking about taking you to do some clothes shopping, the toy store, then how about I take you to the park, how does that sound," he says setting a plate of food, and orange juice down in front of her.

Londyn looked up at him with bright eyes. "Yes, please I would love that."

Adam smiled at her enthusiasm. Adam sat next to her at the kitchen island and they ate and chatted. This is the most word Adam has heard Londyn say since he first met her. He feels that they are finally starting to warm up to each other.

Later, Adam and Londyn got dressed. Londyn wore a light jacket, blue jeans, and sneakers. Adam took notice of her worn-out clothes and was glad that he was going to be able to provide her with a new wardrobe. He also realized that she had no coat that would keep her warm during the Chicago weather, Even though it was September, so the weather wasn't that bad, he knows since living here since his childhood that Chicago weather can get brutal.

Adam and Londyn entered the mall. It was not that crowded since it was a weekday and most people were at school and work. Adam took Londyn's hand. He didn't want her to get lost. This will be her first full day with him. Could you imagine if he lost track of her already? Adam didn't know how Londyn would react to the physical touch, but she kindly accepted it.

It felt strange, but a good strange, Londyn's soft little hand in his. He looked down at Londyn and her eyes roamed around the mall, looking inside each store that they passed.

They went inside a children's clothing store and Londyn's face lit up. There were so many clothes. She spotted a blue and purple ombre jacket. Which was perfect for the fall weather. They shopped some more around the store and mall, and Londyn was hesitant about picking out clothes. She was worried about money and how much this was all going to cost, but Adam told her not to worry about it. These were things that she needed.

Some time passed and they made their way to the food court, and Adam bought them both some sandwiches and drinks. They found a table and sat down. Adam noticed that Londyn suddenly got quiet.

"Is everything okay?" he asked her.

Londyn took a sip of her drink and looked up at him. "Will I go to school?"

Adam was relieved that nothing major was bothering her. "Yes, you will. We will wait till you are settled in a little more. I have been looking around at some schools, and I found a good one that I think you will like" he tells her.

Londyn nodded, but Adam could tell she had more questions to ask.

"Will I get in trouble for missing too much school? At my old school, I missed a lot of days and my foster parents got in trouble because they weren't sending me or because I was late all the time" she says.

Londyn has talked about her time in foster care with Adam and everything she has said about those times broke Adam's heart. He wished that her life never ended up like this, and instead has been raising her since birth, but it's not too late to start giving her the childhood that she deserves.

"Don't worry you won't get in trouble. They will understand. I have spoken to your teachers, and we will go make a visit soon."

Londyn nodded and continued eating. "I'm going to have to return to work soon, The people that I work with don't know about you yet, but I plan on telling them soon. If that's okay with you."

Londyn gave him a light smile, "yeah, that's okay" she said putting on a brave face. But Adam could tell that she was a little nervous to meet new people.

After the mall, Adam and Londyn headed to the toy store and Londyn went straight to the doll aisle. Nobody has ever told her that she can get whatever she wants. She looked at every toy carefully. Adam took notice of how Londyn carefully took note of things. She was a curious little girl who was amazed by everything around her.

After the toy store and park, Adam and Londyn headed home and she headed straight for her bedroom to start playing with her toys and putting her clothes away. Adam sat down on the couch and pulled his phone out of his pocket and dialed Voight's number.

"This is Voight," he says answering the phone. Adam and he talk about what's been going on with the recent cases, and Adam decides it's time to tell him the news.

"So I plan on coming back to work soon, I promise, but um I have something to tell you. I took some time off work because I found out that I have a daughter. She's 9 years old. She's living with me now. I don't really want to get into the story with her mom, but I just wanted to let you know. Also, could you do me a favor and tell the rest of the team to? I would do it myself, but I think it will be easier for you to do it. I will eventually bring her around to meet everyone" he finishes,

Voight was shocked by the news. Adam has a child. He never saw that coming. "Yeah, of course, I'll tell them and hey, if you need some more time off, go ahead and take it. Spend some time with your daughter."

"Thanks, boss I appreciate it. I'll see you soon" he says and they both hang up. That went easier than he thought it would, but he is nervous about the team's reaction to the news.

The next day, Adam was receiving phone calls from his co-workers bombarding him with questions about Londyn. Asking him how he was doing, and how he found out. Adam answered as many questions as he could. Well, as much information as he felt comfortable sharing. One person he didn't hear from was Kim. She was probably mad or upset with him for not telling her sooner, but he just wasn't ready. He has tried calling her, but she never answered the phone.
