Chapter 2: The Loss & Comfort
The place was silent goku was silent he felt wind blow on him, he cant believe what happened his wife who he loved and made him to feel love and who made him happy was no longer alive but there is no time left for goku to mourn he heard evil laugh from radtiz his anger erupted like a volcano.
Raditz was laughing like a maniac "you are coming with me now kakarott I removed the obstacle that preventing you to join me see I get rid of her for you" said raditz with evil smirk.
Hearing these words made goku snapped his rage boiled his power increased raditz scouter began to beep he read the power was increasing it raised gradually it stopped at 11,000 and he was surprised.
"how are you this powerful a low class warrior" asked radtiz and he noticed gokus eyes changed to yellow.
"you.. you monster you killed her I am mad really mad you are going to pay for what you have done you are going to regret for coming here" growled goku his voice has changed slightly.
Before raditz could do anything goku pounced on him and gave him no time to attack each punch and kick goku gave him was precise it made a lot of damage to him.
"kakarott I am sorry if you leave me I will leave and I will never return I promise" said radtiz for his life but goku was in no mood to listen he wanted to kill him for what he did he didn't gave raditz a chance to escape.
But before raditz could do anything he felt something periced him he saw his torso goku's hand pierced him and it came from back and goku removed blood was dripping from his hand.
"you bastard" said raditz coughing some blood.
Gokus power decreased to 1000.
Then tien arrived to that place he saw raditz lying on ground at brink of death and he also noticed chi-chi dead so he understood what happened.
"soon you and your pathetic planet is going to die two more saiyans who are more powerful than me will arrive in a year there is nothing you can do to escape" said radtiz coughing blood.
bulma is busy in her work but she saw nimbus at her house and a child she didn't know but she noticed fourstar dragon ball on the boys cap she deduced he might be goku's son but she wondered why is he here then she took him inside, it's been an hour Gohan arrived to bulmas place still nobody came to take him she don't know what to do so she decided to take Gohan to goku's house.
Meanwhile with tien and goku.
They both remained silent tien was thinking what to do goku is as powerful as this person and he told two more will come in a year and they are stronger than him.
Then tien noticed bulma was coming then bulma landed her helicopter and she saw tien and goku she didn't know what happened but she saw gokus house destroyed and someone was on ground but she soon realised who it was.
She was surprised to see chi-chi dead she doesn't know what to do but Gohan ran towards her.
"mommy.. mommy" Gohan rushed at chi-chi.
Goku noticed Gohan and bulma and he remembered about chi-chi but he don't know what to do all he was seeing was his incompetence his failure to protect his wife.
Bulma ran along with Gohan.
Gohan noticed his mother was not moving he tried to wake up her but she is not moving bulma hugged little Gohan comforting him.
Gohan was crying hysterically bulma is trying her best to comfort him, goku is shedding some tears.
Knowing about gokus state she gave him some time and soon yamcha arrived and understood and remained silent.
"so goku tell me what happened?" asked bulma.
goku told her what happened and all them were surprised by hearing it.
"but we had a problem" said tien.
"what problem?" asked yamcha.
"that man told two more will come who is stronger than him will come in a year" said tien this made bulma and yamcha surprised.
"how powerful is that person?" asked bulma.
"he and goku are same strength" said tien.
Now this made bulma to fear.
"what how can we stop them?" asked bulma.
"don't know even if we trained and pushed our limits there is no way we can surpass them In a year" said tien.
Bulma approached the dead body of raditz and took the scouter from him she tinkered with it and found it also act as a communicator.
With vegeta and nappa.
"so that runt died" said nappa.
"yes he is a weakling" said vegeta.
"so are we going to earth?" asked nappa.
"no that kakarott is also a weakling he is no use for us" said vegeta.
"but didn't we saw his power was 11,000" asked nappa.
Vegeta pondered about it.
"If he is really that strong we will take him if he is a weakling we will kill him along with all the life on the planet" said vegeta.
Meanwhile bulma was able to tap into line with vegeta and nappa.
With vegeta and nappa.
"so what are the coordinated that raditz ship has" asked vegeta.
Nappa entered the coordinated and they began their journey their E.T.A was one year.
Bulma heard this.
"now we are really on a problem" said bulma.
"what happened?" asked goku.
"they had the location of earth they will arrive in a year" said bulma.
Goku took Gohan into his hands and hugged him "sorry Gohan I couldn't save mommy" said goku with sorrow and tears.
Then kami appeared Infront of them.
"so its true a threat is coming" said kami.
"yes, but I am not sure we can be prepared no matter how hard we trained there is a lot of gap in power" said tien.
Bulma was tinkering with the scouter she found its transmitting their conversation so she immediately switched off it.
"Is there anything you can do" asked tien.
"I am sorry both of you are way stronger than me and there is no way I can help even if I wanted to I know a master but living persons can't go so that's out of option" said kami.
Goku was silent in all these he didn't told any word his concern is all about Gohan and his failure and he is afraid for the first time in his life, marrying chi-chi brought hope and joy in goku but it was gone he is not sure can he get out of this.
"goku what are we going to do" asked tien.
Goku was still silent "goku" called tien.
He got out from his daze "yeah I was thinking about something what are you saying" asked goku.
"what are you going to do?" asked tien.
Goku sighed "I don't tien I am not sure if I can move forward in my life again" said goku.
This surprised bulma and tien and yamcha they knew goku is a person ready to face any challenge but they didn't expected goku to talk like this.
"but goku you have Gohan to look after don't loose hope" said bulma.
"I.. I don't know bulma I don't know how to take care of him chi-chi took care of him but ..".
"don't worry about Gohan I will take care of him and you both can live at capsule corp until you figure what to do" suggested bulma.
"I don't know but thanks bulma for taking care of Gohan at present I am not right in my mind" said goku.
Before anyone could speak goku flew from that place "goku come back" cried bulma.
"leave him alone for some time he needs to clear his mind" said kami.
Both tien and bulma remained silent.
"But I need his space pod which he arrived we don't know what it has stored in it I might help us to defeat them " said bulma.
"you can go that way" said kami.
Tien accompanied bulma to find the pod she capsuled it took it capsule corp along with Gohan.
Its been hours all this happened Gohan began to wake up he see where he is he didn't find his mother and father then bulma entered the room with food tray in her hands.
"do you know where my dad and mommy are" asked Gohan.
Bulma don't know what to say but she decided to tell Gohan the truth can she?.
She is thinking what to do then she decided to take Gohan to babas place.
So she took Gohan and tien also accompanied her to baba's place.
But there is no presence of goku.
Soon they arrived baba is waiting for them they met her "wait for a few minutes" said baba.
After few minutes baba arrived with chi-chi Gohan rushed at her she hugged him with all her might she is glad he is safe.
But she didn't saw goku "bulma where is goku?" asked chi-chi.
"I don't know he is blaming himself for your death I don't know what to say but two more saiyans are coming but goku is not sure if he can beat them" said bulma.
Chi-Chi was feared for goku's wellbeing and for gohan's safety.
"lets go to capsule corp I think goku will come after sometime" said bulma.
Then they all went to capsule corp soon the death of chi-chi went to the ox king he rushed to capsule corp he cried with agony and sadness chi-chi comforted him but she knew its hard thing for her father Gohan was glad to see his mother again but when she explained that he cant see her again he cried.
Then bulma explained the situation of the saiyans about to come Gohan was feared but chi-chi comforted him saying "don't worry Gohan your father is the strongest man he will beat them and will keep you safe".
"but what will happen if he gets hurt I cant see him again" asked Gohan.
"Gohan don't worry your father will be always present with you to save you" assured chi-chi.
Soon the day went the time for chi-chi is near end but there is no still sign of goku and finally baba arrived at capsule corp to take chi chi, she went along with baba to her place when she is about to leave goku arrived to see her for last time goku rushed to hug her she comforted him "please take care of Gohan" was all she said then she went to other world.
Its been a month since chi chi died tien continued his training under kami but goku had no motivation to train he still didn't cope with the loss of chi-chi.
"goku I know its hard for you but you have Gohan to take care you haven't met him since her death" said kami.
Goku was not sure he can face his little Gohan after a lot of convincing from kami and tien he went to check on Gohan.
At capsule corp
It had been a month since the day Goku had left, leaving a void that no one could fill. Gohan had been living with Bulma during this time, and to her surprise, he was far more intelligent than she could have ever imagined for his age. He was quick to learn, watching her work in the lab with a focused curiosity that reminded Bulma of Goku in many ways. He was a bright light in an otherwise dark time, but there was still one question on his mind—one question he could never seem to shake.
"Bulma, do you know where Dad is?" Gohan asked one afternoon as they sat in the living room.
Bulma paused, her fingers resting on the edge of her workbench. The question stung her, but she didn't show it. It had been weeks since she last saw Goku, and the silence he left behind seemed louder with each passing day.
"I don't know, Gohan," she replied softly. "It's been a month since I saw him. Do you miss him?"
Gohan nodded, his small face filled with a quiet, determined hope. "Yes. Mom always told me that Dad was the strongest in the world. He said he'd protect me, protect all of us, from the Saiyans who are coming. I know he will keep us safe."
Goku was standing outside Capsule Corp, listening. His heart clenched as he heard Gohan's words, a mix of pride and guilt washing over him. Gohan still believed in him, still believed he could protect them. But could he? His power had been stuck, stagnant. His heart had been broken. Could a broken man protect his family?
"Gohan."
The voice was unmistakable. Gohan's eyes lit up as he spun around, his joy bubbling over in an instant.
"Daddy!" He rushed to his father, a grin on his face that could light up the world.
Goku's heart wrenched as he bent down, pulling Gohan into a tight embrace. His son was so full of love, so full of life. Goku had no right to let him down. "Hello, Gohan. I'm sorry I didn't come to see you sooner."
"It's okay, Dad," Gohan said, his innocence shining through. "I know you're training to defeat those Saiyans. I know you'll be strong enough to protect us."
Goku ruffled Gohan's hair, smiling at his son's faith. "Thanks, Gohan." His eyes then moved to Bulma, who had been standing nearby, silently watching the reunion.
"Hi, Bulma. Thanks for taking care of Gohan all this time."
Bulma gave him a small smile, her voice steady despite the whirlwind of emotions she was feeling. "Don't mention it, Goku. You're my best friend. It's the least I could do."
But even as she spoke, her sharp eyes caught the sadness that still lingered in Goku. He was hiding something—something deep. His face was worn, his body still showing signs of strain. It wasn't just the physical toll of training; it was the quiet devastation inside him.
"Goku," she said gently, her voice soft but insistent, "are you okay?"
Goku looked at her, his gaze distant. He tried to force a smile, but it didn't reach his eyes. "Yeah, I'm fine, Bulma."
"You know you can't hide from me, right?" Bulma said, crossing her arms, her voice soft but firm. "I know it's hard to move on, but you need to be strong for Gohan. He needs you now more than ever."
Goku lowered his head, his voice breaking as he spoke. "I... I don't know, Bulma. All this time, I've been questioning myself. Why her? Why did she have to die? She shouldn't be gone." His voice faltered, the pain seeping through.
Bulma didn't know what to say. Words felt so small in the face of Goku's grief. But she understood. Chi-Chi was irreplaceable in his life. She was the center of his world, and now, that world had been shattered. Still, there was one thing Bulma could do—be there for him, the way he had always been there for others.
"Then… fulfill the promise you made to her, Goku," she said quietly, but with a strength that only a true friend could muster. "Protect Gohan. He needs you."
Goku's eyes closed for a moment, a tear slipping down his cheek. He didn't speak, but his head nodded in silent agreement. He would do it. For her. For Gohan.
The rest of the day passed in a somber silence. Goku spent time at Capsule Corp, trying to find a moment of peace, but it never lasted long. He had to train. He had to get stronger. He couldn't afford to stay broken.
The next day, he found himself in the mountains, staring at the Pendulum Room, ready to test his strength against the past. He needed to know if he was strong enough to defeat the Saiyans that were coming, but when he tried to access the power he had used when Chi-Chi died, he found it was gone. No matter how hard he pushed, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't access it.
Kami's voice rang in his head, suggesting the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Goku hesitated, but ultimately decided to wait until the end of his training. The Time Chamber would be their last resort, but it was all he had left.
Months passed, and still, Goku could not tap into his Ikari form. His power had increased only slightly, and it frustrated him to no end. He meditated for days, desperately trying to clear his mind, but Chi-Chi's death haunted him at every turn. The guilt. The pain. It was all too much.
Then, one day, Kami shared something that hit Goku like a hammer. The tale of the Great Ape transformation. How the Saiyans turned into giant monkeys when exposed to the full moon. Goku's breath caught in his throat as the truth sank in—he was the one who had killed his grandpa, Gohan's namesake, in a fit of uncontrolled rage. The realization tore through him. He had been a monster once, and now, it was all coming back.
Devastated, Goku entered the Time Chamber alone. It wasn't a cure for his pain, but it was all he could do. Time passed in isolation, in silence. Slowly, he began to tap into the Ikari form, but it was fleeting. His body couldn't handle it for long, but he pushed himself. He couldn't give up now.
Kami relayed this news to Bulma, and the anger she felt for kami was almost overwhelming. How could he tell him at this situation? But then Kami explained why he told: goku need to be prepared for what ever to come.
Goku's pain was raw. But so was his resolve.
It wasn't enough yet. But it would be. He would protect them. He would protect Gohan. For Chi-Chi.
It had been month's since the earth-shattering revelation that the Saiyans were coming. Goku, Tien, and the others had been training desperately, but there was little progress. While Goku had growing stronger, his power still felt insufficient, and doubts clouded his mind. The time was running out, and he wasn't sure he could win.
A week before the arrival of saiyans
Bulma, ever the brilliant inventor, had been brainstorming furiously, trying to think of ways to help in the limited time they had left. She knew the world's fate rested on Goku's shoulders, but she couldn't just sit back and watch him struggle alone. One idea came to her that she couldn't ignore—something that might give them a fighting chance.
Bulma knew she had to turn to the Dragon Balls.
She had gathered Gohan, explaining the power of the Dragon Balls and what they could do. "Gohan, these Dragon Balls can grant us a wish. Anything we want," she said as they both sat in the living room, surrounded by the scattered balls.
Gohan looked at her, his innocent eyes wide with curiosity. "But… why didn't we use them to bring Mom back?" he asked, his voice filled with a child's hope and confusion.
Bulma's face faltered for a moment, pain flashing across her features before she masked it with a soft sigh. "Because, Gohan, the Dragon Balls can't bring back people who have died... not after so much time. We tried that with friends long ago, but the wish didn't work. It doesn't bring people back the way we wish it could."
Gohan's face fell as he absorbed the sadness in her words, and Bulma could see his mind churning, even though he didn't fully understand the weight of what she was saying.
With the Dragon Balls finally gathered, Bulma, Kami, and Tien gathered together. Shenron's colossal form appeared in the sky, his eyes glowing with ancient power. Bulma spoke quickly, knowing they didn't have much time. "Shenron, is there any way to stop the Saiyans from coming to Earth?"
Shenron's deep, rumbling voice echoed through the air. "It is beyond my power to stop them entirely, but there are options."
Kami, hopeful but cautious, asked, "What are the options?"
Shenron's voice deepened, a hint of sadness in its tone. "I can alter the direction the Saiyans are traveling. This will ensure that, for a time, the Earth will be safe. But it will not be permanent."
Bulma's mind raced. "But when they realize what we've done, they'll just come back again."
Shenron's eyes glowed brighter as he spoke, "There is another option. We can alter the very coordinates of Earth. Shift it to a new location, one where they cannot find it."
Bulma froze. "What do you mean, change the coordinates? Wouldn't that… cause huge problems? The climate, the sun… we would need to survive, wouldn't we?"
Shenron answered, "I can handle those details. The Earth can be moved to a solar system far from the Saiyans' reach, and its environment will be stabilized."
Kami and Bulma exchanged a look. The risk was enormous, but there were no other options left.
Bulma swallowed her fear and made the wish. "Shenron, I wish for the Earth's coordinates to be changed, to move it to a different solar system where the Saiyans cannot find it."
"Your wish has been granted," Shenron intoned, his eyes glowing as his massive form began to fade. "Farewell."
The Earth shifted, and to anyone who wasn't paying attention, nothing seemed to change. But in the vastness of space, the Earth disappeared from its place, moving to a new, distant solar system. The Saiyans would never find it.
A week later
Vegeta and Nappa arrived at the coordinates where Earth should have been, only to find nothing. There were no signs of life, no planets, no Earth. Vegeta's frustration grew. He stared into the empty void of space, his hands clenched tightly.
"Nappa, are we at the right coordinates?" Vegeta demanded, his voice thick with irritation.
"Yes, these are the ones from Raditz's ship," Nappa replied, checking the readings again.
"Then where is the planet?" Vegeta growled. "Check the coordinates again!"
"I can't find it anywhere," Nappa said, his voice laced with confusion.
Vegeta's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "What's happening here?"
Nappa scratched his head. "Maybe the planet was hit by a meteor, but if that's the case, there should be debris. We should see some remnants."
Vegeta's frustration reached its peak. "So what should we do now?" asked nappa.
"We'll keep searching. When I find it, I'll destroy it," Vegeta muttered, his pride stinging. He had been sure the Earthlings would be an easy conquest, but now they were nowhere to be found.
"I underestimated them," Vegeta hissed. "They must have changed the coordinates in Raditz's space pod."
"But where can we find them in the entire universe?" Nappa asked, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
Vegeta's expression hardened. "We'll check every nearby planet. I'm sure they should be somewhere close."
Goku continued his training its been a year since chi chi died he is slowly getting out from the loss of her, he was waiting for the saiyans to come he waited but there is no coming of saiyans.
"hey kami its been a year can you tell when the saiyans will arrive I need to be prepared" asked kami.
"there is no problem of saiyans" said kami.
"what do you mean by that?" asked goku.
"bulma used dragon balls to change the location of earth so they can't come to earth" said kami.
Goku was surprised to hear that, "well then I will continue with my training" said goku.
"wait don't you want to spend time with your son its been a year since you saw him" said kami.
"well but I need to get stronger we don't know who will come" said goku.
"don't worry goku we can stop the next threat Gohan is still a child he needs you" said tien approaching them.
Goku pondered for a moment "okay I will take break for some time" and goku began to fly towards capsule corp.
At capsule corp
Gohan was observing bulma while she is doing her work during this year they both grew closer, bulma unknowingly to her is becoming mother figure to Gohan.
While working bulma took a look at clock it was after noon so she decided to take a break
"Gohan do you want to eat something?" asked bulma.
Gohan nodded his head they both went to have lunch.
On the dining table they are having a huge banquet as Gohan had the appetite of saiyan's bulma was surprised when she saw how Gohan eats.
"bulma tell me what adventures you and dad had" asked Gohan.
Bulma began to tell her adventures when she is a teenage girl she told him how they met each other and the search for dragon balls.
"then how mom and dad met" asked Gohan.
Bulma told him about the fire mountain, while they are talking goku entered the room.
"hello Gohan" called goku.
Gohan turned back to see who it was and saw goku Gohan rushed in joy and hugged goku "daddy I missed you" said Gohan.
"me too Gohan sorry for making you to wait" said goku.
"hi bulma how are you?" asked goku.
"I am fine goku what about you" asked bulma.
"I am okay bulma and once again thanks for taking care of Gohan all this time" said goku.
"don't mention it goku infact he had a lot of similarities with you" said bulma.
"yeah I know chi chi used to tell me" said goku, but the mention of chi chi brought back sadness.
Bulma noticed it tried to change the matter "hey goku why don't you come and eat there is a lot of food" said bulma.
Goku joined the lunch while eating "thank you bulma" said goku.
"but why are you thanking me?" asked bulma.
"kami told me what you did but I didn't understand why you did it" asked goku.
"I don't know goku but I had a feeling that I needed to do something, something in me told that facing those saiyans is not easy so in a last attempt I used the dragon balls so the saiyans cant come to earth.
Goku remained to absorb all the information "thank you bulma to tell the truth I am not even sure that I can face them at my current strength" said goku.
"what do you mean?" asked bulma.
"it took me a lot of time to forgot what happened to her I spend most of my time to cope with it" said goku.
"I understand it goku its difficult to bear the pain" said goku.
Goku spend the rest of the day with Gohan and he took break from training to cover the time gap between him and Gohan.
Outer space we see a spaceship approaching earth.
