Kimberly walked into Jason's dojo and took a seat at the back of the class. She didn't want to interrupt him, but she watched as he subtly shifted how he was running the class before handing it off to one of the, she assumed, senior instructors. Taking a glance at the belts, this was one of his higher level classes and it was interesting that he held this class midday on a Thursday.
"Hey…umm…what are you…" Jason trailed off as he stood in front of her and she bit down on her lip. She wasn't sure that this was the right move to make, but she couldn't stop thinking about this person that could come after her again. It seemed like they'd gotten the message that the kids were off limits, but that meant all of their concentration was on her. She was the weak one, she was the vulnerable one. She was the one that they could use to hurt Tommy and she was tired of being used against him. "I thought Tommy would be the one to come to us ready to tear the world apart."
"He's got too much on him, Jason and I can't take any of it off of him. I'm trying and nothing I do is right. I can't even…we haven't…" Kim trailed off as her face flamed red and he chuckled before gently guiding her back towards his office. Tommy had said nothing about their intimacy, but they all knew that was suffering as well. Healthy in their relationship looked a lot different than any of the other relationships in the ranger world.
"Talk to me," Jason said as he propped up against his desk and she found a space to settle down as well. She studied her hands and so many subtle emotions played on her face. He wanted to press her, but he knew that if she was here- she had something in mind and it was best to wait her out.
"How do we get her to tell us what she did?" Kim asked and Jason grimaced. Billy had been working with hospital administration with all of the evidence that they had, but that was not going to necessarily get an answer out of her. Even with reviewing everything that Tanya had given them, they weren't sure what had signified to Hayley that she would be vulnerable and willing to help her. "Jase…"
"The most straightforward way would probably be to let Tommy or someone else question her, but we're all aware that he's not doing great right now. Normally, the someone else would be you- but we can't afford her taking even one swipe at you until you're healed, healed. But you're here, which means you're done with not knowing and that might…I don't know. For years we thought Hayley was dead and before that we were sure that she didn't have anyone helping her- so she went out of her way to bring Amber in," Jason stated and Kim's face darkened. He saw a glimpse of the fierce woman that she had become in that gaze and he hated that Tommy was not here to see it. "Do you think he can do it?"
"Maybe? He…I…it's right there. I thought by now I'd remember a bit more but I've gotten to Murianthius and even the bits I remember of that- it's not anything compared to what he has told me about that time. It's not anything compared to my diaries and his letters. Everything else, it's just out of reach," Kim babbled into her hands as she slumped forward in the chair and Jason moved to sit down next to her. "I know he needs me and I need him, but I don't know how to do this."
"Have you told him that?" Jason asked and Kim looked over at him and then quickly shook her head. "You need to talk to him instead of the rest of us."
"I know, believe me, I know- but I don't know how. He sits down to listen to me and my brain just stops functioning and I stare at him and try to figure out how in the hell I got this lucky after everything I did to break us apart. After I hid his son from him for years and now I see that we've raised great kids and I…I just…I have none of that. I have none of those memories and I need them back. I need to know what they did to me and if we can reverse it and if Tommy can't go in there and get answers- then I will," Kim said as Jason stilled and he shook his head. They could not risk her and they had to protect her from whatever else Amber might have left up her sleeve. "And that is why I am here, because I need someone to help me convince him."
"I am with him on this. You don't need to be the one that confronts her and we need to let the hospital handle this as well as they can," Jason said as she glared at him and he took a step back. "Kim, he's done life without you and he knows how bad it was. He's terrified that he's going to lose you."
"But he has lost me and I want me back. I want me back for him so that we can…so that…please, Jase, help me convince him that I can give this a try," Kim said as she grabbed both of his hands and his gaze slowly met hers. The difference between him and Tommy was that Tommy would shut this down because he knew they could rebuild and rediscover each other. He wasn't strong enough to shut this down, he couldn't stand to see the pleading in her eyes. He slowly nodded his head and she threw her arms around him. "Thank you."
"Try talking to him tonight and if he doesn't budge…I'll see what I can do," Jason promised and Kim gave him a smile as she released him and they both fell into a comfortable silence. "I hate that you're right about how badly he needs you back to you."
"I have eyes. I may not know a lot about him, but I can feel the space between us and I know that we both hate it. No matter how much the both of us try- we're just off and I'm going to get us back on," Kim said as she stood up and Jason gave her a confused look. "I'm heading to our dojo, Tommy mentioned something about Ollie and Landon testing for their next belts and I have just enough time to make it if I leave in the next little bit."
"Go be their mom," Jason said as he gave her a hug and she sank into him. He knew that their friendship was one of the things that had gotten her through life without Tommy and he hoped that his friendship would help her get back to him.
"No. Absolutely not," Tommy said as Kim sat across from him at the kitchen island as he prepared food for the next day. The younger kids were already in bed and Ollie was back in his room, probably chatting with Autumn. They were starting to get these snatches of time together again and he could not believe that they were talking about this. He had just gotten on level footing and now she wanted to confront the woman that had done this to her. "Fuck no."
"I need to get back to myself. I need to be there for you and our family and I can't do that with my memories the way they are right now. I've tried…we've tried and I need to know, I have to know what I'm missing. I can't see how we fix us if I don't…" Kim trailed off as Tommy froze and he then carefully put down the pan on the stove. He gripped the countertop and she watched as he fought with himself. She walked over to him and placed a hand on his back, angling her body where she could see his face and she saw the tears streaming down his cheeks. "Tommy…handsome…"
"Do you think I want to fix you?" Tommy whispered as she cupped his cheek and one of his hands moved to grip hers. He forced his eyes open as he felt her moving between him and the counter and she shook her head. She knew that he didn't see anything to fix, but that was all that she could see in herself. All she could see was how she was messing up their entire life and if she could just get those memories back it would all go back to normal. "I can't let her hurt you again."
"She won't. You can be there or if that's a bad idea Jason or Zack or Billy can go as a bodyguard. We need to ask. We need to know," Kim said as she reached up and he reluctantly tilted his head down towards her. He would confront Amber before he ever let her step one foot in a room with that woman ever again. "Please, let me do something to help."
"No, Billy said they're holding a post mortem on your case tomorrow…where they are going to corner her and suspend her. I was going to go anyway, I'll tell him I want a chance to ask questions," Tommy said as she stared at him and the anger flashed in her eyes. "I need to keep you safe."
"And I need to hear with my own ears what she…what they did to me," Kim insisted and he just shook his head. She pushed him away and he took a step back, allowing her to move away from him. "You make our marriage seem like we're equals, like we protect and support each other. I don't need your protection now, Tommy. I need you to support me on this."
"I can't give her another chance to hurt you and tomorrow is going to be a dangerous time for you to be near her. Please, just trust me on this. I'll get the information we need," Tommy said and she scoffed at him and he looked at her carefully, something had changed. He wasn't sure what it was, but he knew that it was important that he pay attention to whatever she said next.
"Let me help you. Let me do something for you. I see you. I see how you're barely holding it together between the kids and the dojo and teaching and me. I see how every night you get home and look at me and you hope that your wife will be back…that in the last ten hours my mind will have fixed itself. I see how you are so tired, but you're not desperate for answers. And I am. I am desperate enough that I will not take no for an answer and that's what we need," Kim finished in a whisper as he crushed her to him and she tentatively returned the hug. She found herself staring at his jawline and, starting hesitantly, began kissing her way to his mouth. She had no goal in mind, she just finally felt comfortable enough kissing him freely. To her surprise, Tommy relaxed into her kiss, he relaxed into her touch- the tension in him breaking.
"Give me five to shove this in the fridge," Tommy whispered as he pulled away and she tried to hold him close. "I know, baby, but if we start that here- one of our children will interrupt us."
They both jerked as they heard a gagging sound and Tommy looked over his shoulder to see Ollie standing there with a grin on his face. They had long ago scarred Ollie for life when it came to public displays of affection and he had learned to find ways to embarrass them back. Well, Kim was embarrassed right now, but normally they'd just break apart for a bit and not make it extremely obvious if they were heading to their bedroom.
"You cool if I take Autumn to the movies tomorrow?" Ollie asked and they both smiled at him and Tommy hoped in this moment that Ollie was able to see his parents. He hoped that he could have some sort of normalcy in the middle of the mess that was their lives right now.
"She say yes?" Tommy asked as he continued moving around the kitchen, putting things up and passing close to Kimberly at every chance he got. He needed to feel connected to her, because of what he was now considering. He knew that if she had all of her memories he would not stop her from going in there and confronting Amber. He would support it and let her do what she needed. Hell, she wouldn't have even asked him even a month ago- she would have told him that this was what she was doing. He had to get out of her way, but he desperately needed some real connection to do that.
"Yeah," Ollie whispered as he shifted his weight back and forth. Tommy smiled again as he nodded and Ollie then threw his arms around him. "Thanks, Dad."
"Once you know her curfew, just let us know," Tommy said and Ollie gave him a look. "I'm not going to make you take her home early so you can get back here by 11. If her curfew is later- yours will be about thirty minutes after hers."
"Awesome…does that get me out of Saturday morning class?" Ollie pushed and Tommy shook his head as Ollie shrugged and then ran back off to his room.
"Saturday class?" Kim asked as Tommy started turning out the lights and double checking the locks. He walked back over to her, the house dark and looped his arm around her, pulling her into his side.
"He teaches one of the toddler classes on Saturday. It's the basics of the basics and he's really great with them," Tommy explained as Kim closed the door to their room and he turned around to face her. "You're right."
"About what?" Kim asked as she started towards the closet to grab some pajamas and he grabbed her hand to stop her. He dropped all of his walls and he knew when she saw it, when she saw him because her hands immediately laced their way into his hair, pulling him closer.
"I need you back and I need to get out of your way for how you want to try to do this," Tommy whispered against her lips and he felt the soft gasp escape her. He hoped that was an invitation as he kissed her desperately and lifted her feet off the floor, guiding her legs to wrap around his waist. Her legs hooked around him and he felt the last of his restraint go.
He placed her on their bed, pressing into her as he continued their kiss. He could not bring himself to pull away as her fingernails dug into his back and he let out a sigh. Good, she was just as desperate as he was. His fingers fumbled as he began undressing her, pushing, pulling, and ripping clothing to get to her body. He couldn't find the control to go slow, he had had this moment ripped away over and over again. His desperation rode him as he heard Kim let out a moan and he knew she appreciated what he was doing. He felt her hands trying to remove his clothing and he clasped her hands above her head. She didn't struggle and instead grasped onto his hand, in an oh so familiar way.
He met her gaze and she smiled up at him, a smile that let him know he was doing exactly what she wanted. He discarded her last piece of clothing and then began kissing his way down her body. He stopped at each scar, each blemish she was so insecure about, paying extra attention to them until she relaxed under his touch again. He had been there for most of them, he knew the story of her body and had memorized it over the years. He finally touched the part of her that craved him most and he watched as she gripped their bedframe with one hand and used the other one to muffle her cries of pleasure. It wasn't long before he felt her body contract around his fingers as her orgasm bore down on her and he heightened her pleasure.
He carefully removed his hand from her and moved to the edge of the bed as he started stripping off his clothing. He felt hands join his own, at first tentative, but then greedily grasping on to each bit of exposed skin. He didn't push them away and the moan slipped through his lips. His wife's touch. The touch he had craved for months was finally caressing his skin again.
He tossed the last of his clothing to the floor and turned around in her arms. He placed her hand on his thigh and leaned in for another kiss. He could bring them to this point, but he needed her to decide. He needed reassurance that she wanted this as much as he did. He needed her.
"Do you want to stop?" he whispered as her hands tentatively brushed over him and his mouth dropped open as pleasure rolled through him. The slightest touch was enough for him now, his desperation coming in the form of a strangled moan. She leaned back onto the bed, pulling him back with her, her legs wrapping around him and pulling him close. "Baby, I need you to tell me."
"Fuck me."
And so he did.
Kimberly screamed as she jerked awake and she felt the sweat pouring off her body. Tommy's arms wrapped around her and she brought her hands up to her head gripping her temples as pain lanced through her. She could vaguely hear Tommy's voice, but the pain continued to roll through her. Something was being opened up in her mind and she could only hope that it was something that would get her back to him.
"Beautiful. Beautiful please," Tommy pushed his hands between her hands and her temples, terrified at the damage she might do to the newly repaired area. "C'mon- c'mon- look at me."
The door crashed open and Tommy looked over his shoulder to see Ollie standing there, blocking the way for his younger siblings. Kimberly's nails dug into his hands and he ground his teeth to keep his pain hidden.
"Dad- should I..should I call…"Ollie trailed off as Kimberly glowed a brilliant shade of pink and something surged through her body before the screaming stopped and it went silent. Tommy felt her hands loosen and she turned him towards her.
"I remember…I remember how we…" Kim whispered as she gripped the sheets tighter around her and saw Ollie standing in the door. Memories flooded through her and although he was not as old as he was now in them, he existed. He existed in her memories. "Mesgogg. Zeltrax. Moving here- it…Tommy- does this…should we…"
"Everything's okay, kids. I'll be right out to help tuck Opal and Sean back in," Tommy said as Ollie barely nodded his head and then herded his younger siblings out of the room. "Beautiful?"
"I think I know how we get more of the memories back, but it's going to hurt and…and we really should go somewhere, where we can be alone to do this."
"Okay. I…yeah, we'll do whatever we need to now that things are coming back."
