Kanto Gets Loud

Chapter 101: Sky High Battling!

The Next Day, near a city next to the eastern coast of the Kanto Region,

As they pedaled onward to Chartreuse City, and to Lincoln's potentially next Gym Battle Challenge, our heroes have arrived at the Coastal Town of Periwinkle City, which was a bustling metropolis with plenty of great views of the shorelines, "Wow, so this is Periwinkle City!" Lincoln commented in awe.

"That's right. Apart from Maiden's Peak and Vermillion City, Periwinkle City is one of the most famous coastal cities in the entire Kanto Region," Brock replied, as they pedaled down the path leading into the city.

"At least we can check out that competition that Koga told us about. But first, we should head to the Pokemon Center to have our Pokemon topped off. We can ask about the competition from Nurse Joy," Misty suggested, as they pedaled, just as a powerful gust of wind blew through, almost causing them to lose control of their bikes.

"Whoa, that was a strong gust of wind," Lincoln commented.

"Coastal weather does have that effect at times," Brock replied.

"Hey guys, look over there," Misty said, pointing over to what appeared to be some kind of practice grounds, with an odd-looking tower in the center. High above, they saw a pair of balloons, each with a single rider and with two flying Pokemon. Lincoln recognized Spearow, Golbat and Mandibuzz, but there was one other Pokemon there he didn't recognize. It was a large, avian Pokemon that held traits of both a bird and a reptile. It was primarily yellow, with blue wings and a red and green body. All four Pokemon seemed to be vying for control of a ring of some kind.

"Golbat, use Supersonic! Spearow, go for the ring!" one of the trainers called out. His Golbat fired off a Supersonic attack while his Spearow went for the ring.

"Quick, dodge it! Mandibuzz, go after the ring, and Archeops, use Ancient Power on Golbat!" the other trainer called out. But not just any trainer. The three friends recognized the voice of the trainer.

"Hey, wasn't that…?" Misty asked.

"Yeah, it was! It's Rex Raptor!" Lincoln exclaimed, as both of Rex's Pokemon did battle with the other trainer's Pokemon. His Mandibuzz went after the ring, clutching it before Spearow, while his other Pokemon, now known as Archeops, summoned some rocks with fossils embedded in them, before hurling them at Golbat, who was able to dodge.

"Nice one, Mandibuzz! Now go for the goal! Archeops, cover Mandibuzz!" Rex called out, as Mandibuzz dove right at the tower below, with Archeops flying close behind.

"After it! Golbat, use Supersonic again! Spearow, use Steel Wing!" the other trainer called out. Golbat fired off another Supersonic at Mandibuzz, this time, hitting the Bone Vulture Pokemon, not only confusing it, but also caused it to drop the ring, which was picked up by Spearow, after it landed a solid Steel Wing to Archeops, "Great! Now, go for the goal!" Spearow then began to swoop down at the goal post, when…

"Quick, Mandibuzz, use Aerial Ace to steal that ring back! Archeops, use Dragon Breath!" Rex called out. Mandibuzz, snapping out of its confusion, sped up using Aerial Ace and dove at Spearow. Golbat attempted to help Spearow, only for Archeops to blast it with Dragon Breath. Mandibuzz was able to catch up and strike Spearow, allowing it to grab the ring, before swooping down and tossing the ring onto one of the goal hooks, "Aw yeah! That's what I'm talking about!"

"You both did great, Spearow and Golbat," the other trainer said, as both balloons landed.

"Not bad. Keep trying and maybe you'll get to my level someday," Rex boasted, before noticing the three trainers, "Well, isn't this a surprise? Haven't seen you guys since the Battle Chateau that one time," he said.

"We can say the same to you, Rex. We thought you'd be at the big Fossil Rush at Grampa Canyon?" Lincoln asked.

"Heh, yeah, well, I was too busy with my own things to get caught up in that. So, have you guys come to this town for the PokeRinger Competition? Or the Pokemon Contest? I know you've been participating in some," Rex asked.

"We weren't aware of any Contest being held here. It might be worth checking out. Also, is that what you were doing just now? PokeRinger?" Lincoln asked.

"Yeah. It's an aerial competition between trainers and Pokemon that are able to fly. The goal of the competition is to work with your Pokemon to get the single ring onto that goal post there. And this year, the PokeRinger competition is a Double's Division, so you can use two Pokemon at once," Rex explained.

"Not only that, but the prize for winning is also a year's supply of Pokemon food, as well as being made an honorary citizen of the hosting town, in this case, Periwinkle City," Rex's opponent added.

"Huh… It has been a while since Skyera and Fearow have gotten any action outside of Battle Chateau training. Maybe I should enter them," Lincoln pondered.

"Hold on there, Lincoln… PokeRinger doesn't look as easy as Rex made it sound. It may be a rough go for a rookie like you," Brock advised.

"Actually, a lot of previous champions were first timers, like almost 95% of them," Rex's opponent explained, surprising them.

"The rules are fairly straightforward, and sign up's still open," Rex added.

"So, you going to enter, Lincoln?" Misty asked.

"After hearing all that, I'd be crazy NOT to. Besides, as I said, Skyera and Fearow haven't been getting a lot of action lately, so I figure this'll be a good change up for them," Lincoln replied.

"Well, you're in luck! Registration's still open, so you'd better go enter now," Rex suggested, before recalling his Pokemon and walking off, leaving Lincoln to go and sign up himself.

Meanwhile, back at the Reynolds Household,

"… And done!" Lola said, as she finalized what she wanted to go over during her show-and-tell the next day. She was planning to bring Amaura and Milotic for her presentation, namely because of how majestic and beautiful they were.

"Hey Lola, we're getting ready to watch the Operation Dessert Storm! You want in?" Luan asked, peering into the younger of the twin's room.

"You know it! I'll be right down," Lola said, as she put her presentation speech in her binder before exiting her bedroom. She went downstairs to join the others on the couch, "Alright, so who've we got tonight?"

"Well, lets just flip on the tube and see," Luna said, as she turned on the TV, which showed a broadcast of the PokeRinger Competition opening ceremony in Periwinkle City.

"Looks like we left it on the Kanto broadcast network last time we were watching TV. I wonder if Lincoln's in this competition?" Lori wondered.

"By the looks of that jumbotron, he is," Lisa commented, seeing Lincoln's picture on screen.

"Why don't we check on this contest in between commercials?" Lana suggested.

"Good call," Lynn replied, as she switched the channel to Operation Dessert Storm.

"Ok, looks like the guys with those bombastic looking fruit tarts are here again," Luna commented.

"Well, just by looking at them kind of makes me want to go out and get one to try," Lisa commented.

"Any chance you'd split one with some of us? I've kind of been craving something fruity lately," Lucy asked.

"Well, we'll just need to see what kind of tarts we can find. Personally, I'd like to find a wild berry tart," Rita commented.

"So, Lola, got your presentation for show and tell tomorrow?" Lana asked.

"Yep. Got the final details written down, and what I want to say planned out," Lola replied.

"And it's Milotic and… who else you're taking with you?" Luan asked.

"I'm also brining Amaura. I just hope it doesn't get too uncomfortable at school," Lola replied.

"Well, if it starts to seem like it's getting too uncomfortable or overwhelmed, then go ahead and put it back inside of its Pokeball," Rita advised.

"Got it," Lola replied, as the show started.

Back in Periwinkle City,

"Hello, and welcome to this years PokeRinger competition, hosted in beautiful Periwinkle City! And this year's attracted a large number of contestants, both returning champions and newcomers alike! And this year's competition will be conducted in a Double Battle format, where each trainer can use two aerial Pokemon at once! As always, the winner of this competition will not only be named an honorary citizen of Periwinkle City, but they'll also receive a year's supply of Pokemon Food!" the announcer said, as the trainers were seated in some waiting tents, ready for the competition to begin. Among them, naturally, was Rex Raptor, along with Lincoln and friends.

"So there're champions in the mix as well. This might be tougher than I thought," Lincoln commented, feeling a bit antsy.

"Just keep your cool, Lincoln. The battle's this time around are bound to be different from what you're used to, but everyone else is bound by the same rules," Brock replied.

"And like always, we have a total of eight groups of four trainers battling at a time. However, only two trainers are permitted to advance each time until the finals, and each bracket will be determined by a random shuffle of the cards," the announcer said, as all of the participants were shuffled on the big screen. Everyone was eagerly anticipating who'd be in the first round. Soon before they knew it, the first round of contestants was chosen. Among them was Rex Raptor.

"Heh, looks like I'm up first! This'll be easy pickings for me!" Rex said, as he and his opponents went to their balloons. Once they were settled in, they took off to the official starting altitude, along with a fifth balloon with a ring attached to it.

"The rules for a Double PokeRinger state that a second balloon with the other qualifying ring will be released as soon as the first ring is put on the post, and that the team to score the first ring MUST recall their Pokemon to leave the three remaining teams," the announcer said, as the balloons all got to the official starting altitude, "And begin the match!" with that, Rex and the others sent out their flying Pokemon. Rex, naturally went with Mandibuzz and Archeops, while his three opponents went with Beedrill, Fearow, Swellow, Taillow, Scyther, and a black crow Pokemon that looked like a mafia boss. Lincoln went ahead and scanned both Archeops and the crow Pokemon.

"Archeops, the First Bird Pokemon, a Rock and Flying Type first discovered in the Unova Region, and the evolved form of Archen. Although its capable of flying, it's much better at hunting on the ground.

Honchkrow, the Big Boss Pokemon, a Dark and Flying Type first discovered in the Sinnoh Region, and the evolved form of Murkrow. It is merciless by nature. It is said that it will never forgive the failures or any acts of betrayal of any Murkrow it has as followers. It will not hesitate to hunt them down and punish them for it," Dexter explained.

"That Honchkrow sounds like a really dangerous Pokemon to be sure of," Misty commented, holding Togepi closely.

"And Rex is operating at a slight disadvantage, since Archeops typically needs a running start to get flying," Brock commented, as he noted Archeops was struggling to keep steady in the air.

"Honchkrow, go after the ring! Scyther, act as cover!" one of the trainer's called out. Honchkrow wasted no time in flying to the ring, with Sycther close behind, and grabbing it, "Great! Now, to the goal!" Honchkrow then began to dive right for the goal, heading straight for the others.

"Not so fast there, bud! Mandibuzz, use Sky Attack! Archeops, use Rock Slide!" Rex ordered. Mandibuzz shrouded itself in the harsh light of Sky Attack, while Archeops hurled a bunch of boulders at Honchkrow and Scyther.

"Honchkrow, use Dark Pulse! Scyther, Air Slash!" Honchkrow fired off a Dark Pulse, blasting away some of the boulders, while Scyther's Air Slash sliced through the other boulders, sending them slamming into the other teams, eliminating Beedrill, Fearow, and Taillow, while also cancelling out Mandibuzz's Sky Attack.

"Oh, that was an amazing counterattack! That move alone has eliminated Beedrill and Fearow! The rules state that if all of one team's Pokemon are deemed unable to battle, then that team is disqualified from the competition," the announcer stated, as Beedrill and Fearow's trainer landed and recalled them both, before leaving the competition grounds.

"Yeesh, that's rough," Lincoln commented.

"True, but it does make some sense," Brock replied, as Honchkrow placed the ring on the goal post.

"GOAL! And the first team moving on to the semifinals is Team Bandit Keith!" the announcer said, as that team's balloon landed. The trainer, Bandit Keith, was an adult man in his late 20's at least. His attire was that of a stereotypical biker, complete with a denim vest and an American flag bandana. He also wore sunglasses that he thought made him look cooler.

"Bandit Keith, huh? He looks like a real heel," Misty commented.

"Best to try and knock him out first before going on to catch the ring," Lincoln replied, as the second ring balloon was released.

"And now the second Ring Balloon has been released! Team Shaylin is at a disadvantage since losing Taillow, but can Swellow help make a comeback? Or will Rex Raptor's dynamo duo seal the deal?" the announcer questioned, as the ring balloon got to the official altitude, "And now, both trainers can vie for the ring and a spot in the Semi-Finals!"

"No time to waste! Swellow, go and get that ring!" Shaylin called out. Her Swellow wasted no time in rocketing right for the ring.

"After it, Mandibuzz! You too, Archeops!" Rex called out. Mandibuzz and Archeops flew for the ring as well, "Archeops, use Dragon Breath to keep Swellow at bay!" Archeops then began to belch out Dragon Breath, which kept Swellow away from the ring, while also allowing Mandibuzz to grab the ring itself, "Nice work, Mandibuzz! Now, head for the goal!" Mandibuzz dove right for the goal.

"Swellow, get that ring back!" Shaylin called out. Swellow dove after Mandibuzz, but was closely followed by Archeops, "Swellow, behind you!" she warned, but it did little good.

"Archeops, use Dragon Claw!" Rex ordered. Archeops then slashed at Swellow, sending it down to defeat, just as Mandibuzz tossed the ring onto the goalpost.

"GOAL! And with that, our second Semi-Finalist from Group A is Rex Raptor, with a show of ferocity and strategy! Now we'll shuffle the cards to determine who'll be battling in Group B!" the announcer said, as the pairings for Group B were being selected.

"At least now we know what to expect from the rest of the competitors. I sure hope Skyera and Fearow will be cooperative with each other long enough to at least make it to the semi-finals," Lincoln commented.

"Don't worry, Lincoln. You'll all do great," Misty replied, as the Group B match started.

Meanwhile, in the Magne Royal Palace,

Charlie stood before her parents, showing them her report card for the semester, "Excellent work, Charlie! Just what we'd expect from you," Lucius commented, praising his very tall daughter, who beamed with pride.

"You aren't struggling with any subject in particular?" Lillianna asked.

"Well, multiplying fractions, as well as long multiplication and long division are kind of hard for me, but I ask for help understanding what to do when I need to," Charlie replied.

"Excellent, sweetie. Just keep up your best work, and you're bound to graduate with honors, just as you wanted," Lucius stated, just as a guard came in.

"Sire, your son has returned from his day at reform school," the guard said.

"Ah good… send him in," Lucius requested. In minutes a demon boy, about the same age as Lincoln, entered the room. He has similar blonde hair, and yellow and red eyes like the rest of his family, but his hair was messy and unkept. He wore punk style clothing that contradicted his family's sense of style, "There he is! So, sport, how was school?"

"Ugh… I don't get what the point of school is! I'm royalty, so I should be set for life, with or without any education," the young demon boy groaned, slumping on the couch.

"Now, Giles, sweetie, you know as well as we do that education is a key staple for any good ruler of the Monster Realm. And being royalty isn't about being set for life, as you put it," Lilianna said.

"Your mother is right. As members of the Magne Royal Family, we have an obligation to retain an image of power and dignity that all Monster Kind should strive to adhere to, especially now with the Interspecies Exchange Bill in place," Lucius added.

Giles simply rolled his eyes sarcastically, "Oh yeah, the law you passed because of some dumb deal you made with a lowly human that has you marrying off Charlie to some kid I've never met before. Yeah, I can see how that's MY problem."

"Watch your tone, Giles. You haven't even met the boy in question, so you shouldn't go judging him prematurely," Lucius warned.

"Pfft, whatever… I've got homework," Giles droned, as he walked off.

"That kid's cruising for bruising with an attitude like that," Lucius commented, turning to his wife and daughter, "You'd think sending him to reform school would help straighten him out…"

"But it only seems to be making his behavior worse," Charlie commented, scratching the back of her head.

"These sorts of things take time. Just be patient and I'm certain his behavior will come around for the better," Lilianna replied.

"I just hope his first meeting with Lincoln goes well. I can't tell where this behavior of his is even coming from, or if he's just being this way for kicks," Charlie commented.

"Well, Lincoln will have to meet your brother sometime, Charlie. It's as inevitable as your marriage to him. Sorry to bring that up again," Lucius replied.

"It's fine, Dad. To be honest, he's kind of growing on me and the others, even Vaggie. Granted, we'd rather it not be an arranged marriage, but still," Charlie replied, before taking her leave.

"Our little princess has grown into a fine young woman in such a short amount of time. She's going to make a fine queen someday," Lilianna stated.

"True. Granted, she still has quite a ways to go before she's ready. But if anyone can handle it, she can," Lucius replied.

Back in Periwinkle City,

It was finally Lincoln's turn in Block C of the PokeRinger Tournament, as he and his fellow competitors flew up to the official starting altitude, accompanied by the Ring Balloon, "And now we come to Block C of this Year's PokeRinger Tournament! Our four teams are almost at the official starting altitude, along with the first ring balloon! And our teams for Block C include Team Skylar, Team Gretchen, Team Lincoln, and Team Quincy!" the announcer said, as the four balloons reached the starting altitude, "AND BEGIN!"

"Alright, Fearow and Skyera, you're up!" Lincoln said, sending out both of his Flying Pokemon.

"Aw yeah, back in the field! What have we got today?" Skyera asked, raring to go.

"The two of you are going to need to cover each other while trying to get that ring onto that goal post down there," Lincoln replied, pointing to the ring and the goal post.

"That's all? This shouldn't be too difficult," Fearow commented, as the rest of the teams sent out their Pokemon. Lincoln recognized a few of them, like Noctowl, Crobat, Dragonair and Dragonite, but the others were new ones on him, including a small, firefly like Pokemon with a red collar and a pair of curly antennae, and a large green dragonfly like Pokemon with big red eyes. Lincoln scanned both of them.

"Volbeat, the Firefly Pokemon, a Bug Type first discovered in the Hoenn Region. It communicates with others by lighting up its rear at night. It loves Illumise's sweet scent.

Yanmega, the Ogre Darner Pokemon, a Bug and Flying Type first discovered in the Sinnoh Region, and the evolved form of Yanma. By churning its wings, it can create shockwaves that cause internal damage to foes. Its jaw strength is incredible. It is adept at biting apart foes while flying at high speed," Dexter explained.

"Better watch out for Yanmega. It could be pretty dangerous," Lincoln said to himself.

"Alright, Dragonite, go for the ring! Dragonair, cover Dragonite!" Gretchen called out. Dragonair and Dragonite went after the ring, as did the others.

"Don't think that'll save you! Volbeat, use Dazzling Gleam! Yanmega, use Steel Wing!" Quincy called out. Volbeat fired off Dazzling Gleam, which struck all but Skyera, Fearow and Yanmega, who also struck Dragonair and Dragonite with Steel Wing, which was enough to send both Dragon Type Pokemon down to defeat.

"Talk about quick! Dragonair and Dragonite are out already, thus eliminating Team Gretchen!" the announcer boomed.

"That WAS quick!" Misty commented.

"Those two Bug Pokemon must've had some seriously tough training to pull of something like that!" Brock commented.

"I knew this would be full of high-level opponents, but I didn't think it would be this intense!" Lincoln commented, as Yanmega snatched the ring.

"Nicely done! Now, go for the goal! Volbeat, cover Yanmega!" Quincy called out, as both of his Bug Pokemon dove right at the goal post.

"After them! Skyera, use Air Cutter, and Fearow, you use Aerial Ace!" Lincoln called out. Skyera fired off Air Cutter, while Fearow flew along side the air blades with Aerial Ace.

"Noctowl, try to knock them off balance with Extrasensory! Crobat, use Air Slash!" Skylar called out. Noctowl fired off Extrasensory, causing Yanmega to drop the ring, while Crobat used Air Slash against Volbeat. Both Bug Pokemon took considerable damage, which was only intensified from the attacks Skyera and Fearow unleashed, sending both Bug Pokemon down to defeat.

"And that's the match! In accordance with the rules, since two teams have been eliminated, Teams Skylar and Lincoln will be proceeding to the next round automatically!" the announcer declared.

"Wow, that was easy," Lincoln commented, as both of his Flying Pokemon came back to him.

"I was hoping to score a win over those other guys by scoring a goal, but I'll take what I can get," Skyera commented, as the balloon descended.

"At least we made it to the next round. Hopefully one of us can score a goal then," Fearow replied.

"Fearow's right. Though depending on who wins in Block D, it'll be bound to be a tough match," Lincoln said, landing the balloon on the ground.

"Now we'll move right on to Block D, which will consist of Team Chris, Team Gordon, Team Slate, and Team Cardin!" the announcer boomed. Lincoln and friends were shocked to see Slate and Cardin from Pokemon Tech up on the jumbotron. Lincoln then saw Slate walking over to the balloon he was just in.

"Slate… I wasn't expecting to see you or Cardin, or anyone from Pokemon Tech here," Lincoln commented.

"The school felt it prudent to give us the chance to experience as many different types of battling as possible, be it in land, sea, or sky," Slate replied, as he got into the balloon basket. Looking into the audience, Lincoln saw a group of students from Pokemon Tech, sitting and observing, and possibly judging each trainer participating in this event. They glared down on Lincoln, given his past run ins with the school.

"The trainers and balloons are at the official starting altitude and begin!" the announcer boomed.

"Skarmory and Corviknight, take to the skies!" Slate said, sending out Skarmory and a large, armored raven like Pokemon with piercing red eyes.

"Fearow and Staraptor, time to battle!" Cardin said, sending out his own Fearow, along with a large, greyish brown bird Pokemon with a red tipped crest that gave it the appearance of a larger head.

"Go, Xatu and Jumpluff!" Chris said, sending out a green bodied bird Pokemon that almost looked like a totem pole, and a blue, cottonweed like Pokemon with three large puffs of cotton on its head and to its sides.

"Venomoth and Noivern, you're up!" Gordon said, sending out a Venomoth and a large, purple wyvern like Pokemon with large, speaker-like ears. Lincoln scanned each new Pokemon as he sat down with his friends.

"Corviknight, the Raven Pokemon, a Flying and Steel Type first discovered in the Galar Region. Although its wings have partly turned to steel and became heavy as a result, this Pokemon flies through the skies with ease.

Staraptor, the Predator Pokemon, a Normal and Flying Type first discovered in the Sinnoh Region. It has a truly savage nature. It will courageously challenge foes much larger than itself.

Xatu, the Mystic Pokemon, a Psychic and Flying Type first discovered in the Johto Region. This odd Pokemon can see both the past and the future. It eyes the sun's movements all day.

Jumpluff, the Cottonweed Pokemon, a Grass and Flying Type first discovered in the Johto Region, and the fully evolved form of Hoppip. Blown by seasonal winds, it circles the globe, scattering cotton spores as it goes.

Noivern, the Soundwave Pokemon, a Flying and Dragon Type first discovered in the Kalos Region, and the evolved form of Noibat. Ultrasonic waves emitted by a Noivern can pulverize a large boulder. It has a cruel disposition, and will ruthlessly hunt down any helpless prey in the dark," Dexter explained.

"A lot of these new Pokemon have such violent dispositions," Lincoln commented, unnerved by Staraptor and Noivern's entries.

"Alright, go for the ring you two!" Cardin ordered, as both his Fearow and Staraptor flew right at the ring.

"Not so fast! Noivern, use Hyper Voice!" Gordon called out. Noivern then fired off a sound blast from its ears, striking and damaging both Fearow and Staraptor, while also allowing Venomoth to take the ring, "Alright, now go for the goal!" Venomoth dove for the goal post.

"I don't think so! Xatu, use Psychic!" Chris called out. Xatu used Psychic, which not only caught Venomoth, causing damage to the Poison Moth Pokemon, but it also dropped the ring as a result, "Jumpluff, after it!" Jumpluff went to try and catch the ring, followed closely by Noivern and both of Slate and Cardin's Pokemon.

"Corviknight, use Drill Peck, and Skarmory, Steel Wing!" Slate ordered. Corviknight began to spin beak first at Jumpluff, damaging it, while Skarmory struck Noivern with Steel Wing, before grabbing the Ring, and placing it on the goal post.

"GOAL! Our first semi-finalist from Block D is Slate of Pokemon Tech! Now just who will be next to join him?" the announcer boomed, as Slate recalled both Pokemon, and descended. The second Ring Balloon was released and ascended to the official altitude. Cardin was getting impatient.

"Damn it… Why does there have to be a rule about an official altitude?" he grumbled, tapping his foot impatiently. He didn't have to wait long, as the Ring Balloon reached the starting altitude, thus beginning the second half of the round, "Alright, no screwing around this time! Staraptor, go for the ring, and Fearow, act as cover!" both of his flying Pokemon flew straight at the ring, as did the others.

"This guy's sure a hothead! That'll make defeating him even easier! Noivern, use Dragon Rush! Venomoth, use Whirlwind!" Gordon called out. Noivern surrounded itself with Dragon Rush and rocketed right at Staraptor, while Venomoth kicked up a Whirlwind, which knocked Fearow, Xatu and Jumpluff off balance.

"Don't take that! Fearow, Mirror Move that Dragon Rush!" Cardin called out. His Fearow used Mirror Move, allowing it to use Dragon Rush and intercept Noivern, sending it down to defeat.

"And Noivern is out! Team Gordon is down to just Venomoth! One more knockout, and they'll be out of the competition!" the announcer boomed, as Staraptor grabbed the ring from the balloon and dove for the goal, followed closely by Fearow, who acted as cover. But the other teams were closing in fast.

"Don't let them get to the goal! Use Whirlwind!" Gordon called out, as Venomoth used another Whirlwind to stop Cardin from winning. It backfired horribly on him.

"Thanks for that! I think I'll use that Whirlwind!" Cardin said, as Staraptor rode the Whirlwind to descend faster, and placing the ring on the goal.

"And GOAL! The second Team moving on to the Semi-Finals will be Team Cardin from Pokemon Tech! We'll take a short intermission before the next round so our trainers can heal up their Pokemon, so don't go anywhere!" the announcer declared, as the three balloons descended, and each trainer recalled their Pokemon.

"That was actually pretty smart of Cardin to use Venomoth's Whirlwind like that," Brock commented.

"And now I'll be facing him and Slate, along with Skylar," Lincoln commented, as he looked at the eight remaining teams, who were all pretty high-level combatants.

"This'll be where things get tougher than before. Those other guys better watch out," Rex commented. Soon, the intermission passed, and the first semi-finals round was to get underway, with Rex and Bandit Keith from Block A, along with the winners of Block B, ascending into the sky along with the Ring Balloon.

"And now for our first Semi-Final Round of this year's PokeRinger tournament! From Block A, we have Team Bandit Keith and Team Rex Raptor, and from Block B, we have Team Alison and Team Horace!" the announcer boomed, as each balloon reached the official starting altitude, "And begin!"

"Mandibuzz and Archeops, lets rumble!" Rex said, sending out both of his Pokemon.

"Honchkrow and Scyther, lets tear it up!" Bandit Keith exclaimed, sending out his Honchkrow and Scyther.

"Oricorio and Toucannon, go!" Alison exclaimed, sending out a yellow hummingbird like Pokemon that looked like a cheerleader, and a large, black and white toucan like Pokemon with a large beak.

"Squawkabilly and Talonflame, take to the skies!" Horace called out, sending in a yellow parrot like Pokemon with a pompadour and a red and grey falcon like Pokemon with flame patterns on its wings. Lincoln scanned each Pokemon without hesitation.

"Oricorio, Pompom Style, the Dancer Pokemon, an Electric and Flying Type first discovered in the Alola Region. It creates an electrical charge by rubbing its feathers together. It dances over to its opponents and delivers shocking electrical punches.

Toucannon, the Cannon Pokemon, a Normal and Flying Type first discovered in the Alola Region. When it battles, its beak heats up. The temperature can easily exceed 212 degrees Fahrenheit, causing severe burns when it hits.

Squawkabilly, Yellow Plumage, the Parrot Pokemon, a Normal and Flying Type first discovered in the Paldea Region. Four different colors of Squawkabilly have been confirmed. The yellow Squawkabilly are especially fierce. They've even been known to drive other bird Pokemon out of town.

Talonflame, the Scorching Pokemon, a Fire and Flying Type first discovered in the Kalos Region. It has top-notch flying capabilities. It flies around easily, even while carrying prey that weighs more than 220 pounds. When it gets excited, it vents sparks from the gaps between its feathers. These unburnable feathers are used as a fireproof material," Dexter explained.

"Alright Honchkrow, use Dark Pulse and start knocking down our 'competition'!" Bandit Keith ordered. Honchkrow fired off Dark Pulse at the other competitors, who all managed to dodge in time.

"Man, this guy isn't even waiting for us go for the ring!" Horace exclaimed.

"We'll have to take care of him first! Toucannon, use Rock Blast!" Alison called out. Her Toucannon began firing rocks from its beak right at Honchkrow and Scyther. Both of Bandit Keith's Pokemon dodged effortlessly.

"Good call! Squawkabilly, Copycat that Rock Blast!" Horace called out. Squawkabilly observed how Toucannon used Rock Blast and began using it as well.

"While those guys are duking it out, I think I'll help myself to the ring," Rex said to himself, motioning to his two Pokemon to go and take the ring, which they did, before diving for the goal, quickly placing it on.

"GOAL! And our first finalist in this Year's PokeRinger Tournament is Rex Raptor!" the announcer boomed, regaining the other competitor's attention.

"Crap, I completely forgot about the Ring Balloon!" Horace exclaimed.

"I'll have to get the second ring without any more screwing around!" Alison exclaimed.

"Heh, that's assuming you two even get a chance to get to that ring balloon," Bandit Keith said to himself, as the second ring balloon was risen to the starting altitude, "Scyther, use Swords Dance, and Honchkrow, go for the ring!" Scyther began using Swords Dance, increasing its attack power, while Honchkrow raced the other four Pokemon for the ring.

"Thank you for that, Bandit Keith! I think we'll use that Swords Dance! Oricorio!" Alison called out, as her Oricorio appeared to be using Swords Dance as well, increasing it's own Attack Power.

"Whoa, did Oricorio just use Swords Dance?" Lincoln asked.

"Information: Oricorio's Ability: Dancer: When another Pokemon uses a dancing move, Oricorio can use the same move immediately after regardless of speed," Dexter explained.

"Alright, use Feather Dance to slow down Honchkrow!" Alison called out. Oricorio then unleashed a flurry of feathers that Honchkrow flew right into. It seemed to have weakened the Big Boss Pokemon's stats.

"Dexter, what's Feather Dance?" Lincoln asked.

"Information: Feather Dance: A Flying Type Move that covers the target with a heavy mass of down that harshly reduces the target's Attack Power," Dexter explained.

"Heh, talk about an eye for an eye," Bandit Keith chuckled.

"What's he up to?" Horace wondered, not liking how Bandit Keith was chuckling.

"Alright Honchkrow, use Lash Out!" Bandit Keith called out. Honchkrow's eyes glowed red, as it struck Oricorio and Talonflame, sending them both down to a devastating defeat.

"Oricorio and Talonflame are out! Looks like Honchkrow's Lash Out made the Feather Dance strategy backfire!" the announcer boomed.

"What's Lash Out?" Misty asked, never once hearing of the move.

"If I recall, if the user's stats are reduced beforehand, the attack's power is doubled," Brock replied.

"Toucannon, use Beak Blast!" Alison called out. Toucannon's beak began to heat up, as if charging for an attack.

"Squawkabilly, Copycat!" Horace called out. Squawkabilly observed Toucannon and how it was using Beak Blast and began charging up for the same attack.

"And that's all she wrote! Scyther, use Air Slash, and Honchkrow, Dark Pulse!" Bandit Keith ordered. Scyther launched an Air Slash attack, dealing critical damage to both opposing Pokemon, while Honchkrow fired off Dark Pulse to finish them off.

"And that's battle off! The second finalist in this year's PokeRinger Tournament is Bandit Keith, in a truly brutal and unforgiving victory!" the announcer boomed, as the three balloons landed.

"Man, talk about brutal," Horace commented, recalling both Squawkabilly and Talonflame, while Alison collected Oricorio and Toucannon.

"That Bandit Keith… he's going to be the most trouble," Lincoln commented to himself. Soon it was time for the second semi-final match, as Lincoln, along with Skylar, Slate and Cardin rose up into the air.

"And now, our second semi-final matchup is about to begin! Our four remaining teams are in this division are Team Lincoln, Team Skylar, Team Slate, and Team Cardin! Which two teams will advance to the final round? We're about to see!" the announcer boomed, as the Ring Balloon reached the starting altitude, "And begin!"

"Skyera and Fearow, you're up!" Lincoln called out, sending in Skyera and Fearow.

"Noctowl and Crobat, to the skies!" Skylar called out, sending in his Noctowl and Crobat.

"Fearow and Staraptor, teach that American gaijin a lesson!" Cardin yelled, sending out his Fearow and Staraptor.

"Steel yourselves, Skarmory and Corviknight!" Slate called out both of his battlers.

"Aw yeah, those two definitely look like a decent challenge!" Skyera said, eyeing both of Slate's Pokemon.

"Try not to bite off more than you can chew. Let's focus on getting that ring to the goal post first. If we have to battle, then that's when we'll do so," Fearow advised.

"Right! I can win this whole shebang for us easily! Though getting in some battling action would be nice," Skyera replied.

"Speaking of the ring, you two better go after it," Lincoln said.

"Roger that," Fearow replied, as she and Skyera flew towards the Ring, followed by the others.

"Staraptor and Fearow, use Aerial Ace! Stop that gaijin's Pokemon from getting anywhere near the ring!" Cardin called out. Both of his Pokemon used Aerial Ace, slamming into both Skyera and Lincoln's Fearow, making them stumble a bit midflight. Cardin's Fearow grabbed the Ring, "Alright, now go for the goal!" both of his Pokemon dove for the goal.

"Quick, after them!" Skylar called out. Both his Noctowl and Crobat followed after Cardin's Pokemon.

"Take back the ring!" Lincoln called out. His Fearow and Skyera followed as well. Slate had his Pokemon hang back to observe.

"Alright Lincoln, how will you handle this one?" he asked to no one in particular.

"Crobat, use Air Cutter!" Skyler called out.

"Skyera, you use Air Cutter too! And Fearow, use Mirror Move!" Lincoln called out. All three of their Pokemon unleashed Air Cutter, firing them at Cardin's Pokemon.

"Evasive maneuvers! Double Team, both of you!" Cardin ordered. Afterimages of both Staraptor and his Fearow began appearing, as Air Cutter appeared to have missed, except for one blade that struck his Fearow, causing it to drop the ring.

"Quick, get the ring!" Skylar called out. Both Crobat and Noctowl went for the ring, only to be followed closely by Staraptor.

"Don't count on it! Staraptor, use Brave Bird!" Cardin called out. Slate gritted his teeth in irritation at his classmate's recklessness.

'Cardin, you fool!' he mentally hissed, as Staraptor surrounded itself in blue energy and rammed right into Crobat and Noctowl, defeating them instantly.

"Noctowl and Crobat are both out in one move! That just goes to show the raw power of a Brave Bird attack! But it looks like Staraptor is dealing with the recoil damage!" the announcer boomed, noting the sparks that were flying off of Staraptor.

"That was a pretty big gamble, using Brave Bird like that," Brock commented, as Skyera sped forward and got the ring, and dove for the goal.

"No doubt it'll make it difficult for Cardin to hold his own against Lincoln AND Slate," Misty replied, as Skyera placed the ring on the goal post, "Ok, just Slate then…"

"GOAL! Our first finalist from the second semi-finalist group is Lincoln Loud of Royal Woods, Michigan!" the announcer boomed.

"WHAT?! How did that gaijin get the jump on me?!" Cardin seethed, as the second ring balloon was released.

"Because you were wasting your Staraptor's energy with taking Skylar out of the competition instead of focusing on the ring. This is why you're such a weakling in any battle," Slate harshly stated. This only seemed to infuriate Cardin.

"Don't get all high and mighty on me, just because you're the apprentice of a member of the Elite 4! I'll personally show you just how strong I really am!" Cardin snapped.

"If you spent half as much time training as you did running your mouth, you'd actually have the strength to back up your empty words," Slate stated.

"I'll show you! Fearow, Staraptor, go get the ring!" Cardin yelled. Both of his Pokemon flew after the ring.

"You'll never improve by just rushing headlong like that. Skarmory, Corviknight, double Steel Wing!" Slate ordered. Both of Slate's Pokemon flew at Cardin's Pokemon with their wings glowing metallic, striking both of Cardin's Pokemon, sending them down to defeat instantly.

"Th-that was incredible! With nary any hesitation, Team Slate has eliminated Team Cardin, thus making Team Slate the final team for the PokeRinger competition's Final Round! Like before, we'll have an intermission so that our remaining teams can heal up their Pokemon, so don't go anywhere!" the announcer boomed, as both balloons landed. Cardin felt his heart drop into his stomach at how quickly Slate defeated him. Lincoln was especially shaken up from how efficiently Slate took Cardin out of the competition.

"Slate and Bandit Keith are no doubt going to be the toughest trainers in this competition yet," he commented.

"Hopefully they'll keep each other busy while you and Rex can duke it out," Misty said.

"Misty's right. The final round will have only ONE ring, so the top spot is really up for grabs," Brock added.

Back at the Reynolds House,

"Man, that was totally not fair how our favorite team got sent home!" Lola groaned as they got done watching Operation Dessert Storm, which ended with one of their favorite teams going home.

"You'd think with their take on a chocolate cake, they'd at least make the top three choices," Luna commented.

"Well, no use crying over spilled milk, girls. At least one other favorite team of ours is still running. For now, lets see how Lincoln's doing in that competition," Rita said, switching back to the PokeRinger competition, which was starting its final round.

"For those of you just joining us, this year's PokeRinger competition has just reached its final stage! Our four remaining teams consist of Team Rex Raptor, Team Bandit Keith, Team Lincoln Loud, and Team Slate! Each team showed a tremendous amount of skill and battling skill to make it this far, but now, only one of them can take home the top spot! Just who will it be?" the announcer boomed.

"So that's the name of the competition he's in? 'PokeRinger'?" Lynn questioned.

"We'll have to ask him about the details when he gives us a 'ring'," Luan chuckled, only for her sisters to groan at her pun.

Back in Periwinkle City,

"Alright, Skyera and Fearow, it's show time!" Lincoln called out, sending in Skyera and Fearow.

"Mandibuzz and Archeops, on the double!" Rex called out, sending in his two Pokemon.

"Go, Honchkrow and Scyther!" Bandit Keith called out, releasing both Pokemon.

"Now, steel yourselves in the skies, Corviknight and Skarmory!" Slate called out his Pokemon as well.

"We need to get the ring as fast as we can! Skyera, use Quick Attack and grab the ring first!" Lincoln called out.

"Roger that! Think you can cover me?" Skyera asked Fearow, as she sped off to the ring.

"Like you even need to ask," Fearow replied, following after the competitive Pidgeotto.

"You two go after the ring too!" Rex ordered, as both of his Pokemon flew after the ring.

"That goes for you both as well!" Bandit Keith barked, sending both of his Pokemon in as well.

"Corviknight, start using Iron Defense until you've maxed out your defense! Skarmory, you go after the ring!" Slate instructed. While Skarmory flew in to try and get the ring first, Corviknight began using Iron Defense, boosting its defensive power.

"Smart move on Slate's part, having Corviknight try to max out its defensive power right away," Misty commented.

"I'll say it is. But I can't help but wonder if he has some ulterior motive for doing this?" Brock wondered, as Skyera grabbed the ring.

"Nice one, Skyera! Now, go for the goal!" Lincoln instructed, as Skyera turned around and began diving for the goal.

"Honchkrow, use Night Slash, and get that Ring!" Bandit Keith ordered. Both of Honchkrow's wings began to glow purple, as it closed in on Skyera.

"Mandibuzz, use Sky Attack!" Rex ordered. Mandibuzz cloaked itself in a harsh light. It appeared to swallow a red leaf of some kind and began to rocket right at Skyera and Honchkrow.

"Wait, I thought Sky Attack takes a while to launch?" Misty questioned.

"Rex must've given his Mandibuzz a Power Herb! It's an item that can be used to launch an attack that normally takes time to use! The only drawback is that it can only be used once," Brock explained, as Mandibuzz closed in on both Pokemon, only to be intercepted by Scyther.

"Use Air Slash!" Bandit Keith ordered. Scyther began hurling Air Slash, which Mandibuzz was able to deflect with the power of Sky Attack, sending one of them near Lincoln's balloon, narrowly missing it.

"Whew… Hey, watch it with deflecting those attacks, would you? You almost hit me!" Lincoln yelled, as Mandibuzz slammed into Honchkrow, cancelling out the Night Slash attack.

"My mistake!" Rex called back. What no one at that competition knew was that one of the deflects Air Slash blades grazed two of the ropes holding Lincoln's basket to the balloon, and they were starting to unravel.

"Corviknight, use Drill Peck on Honchkrow!" Slate called out. Corviknight charged at Honchkrow, its beak surrounded by a spiraling energy, slamming into the Big Boss Pokemon, "Now Skarmory, use Aerial Ace and take the Ring!" Skarmory used Aerial Ace, slamming into Skyera, causing her to drop the Ring, which the Armor Bird Pokemon quickly grabbed a hold of, "Now, to the goal!" Skarmory continued to dive for the goal.

"Oh no you don't!" Skyera barked, flying after Skarmory, only to find herself pursued by Scyther.

"Alright Scyther, use Air Slash, and don't screw this up!" Bandit Keith barked. His Scyther began to fling Air Slash at Skyera, who was able to evade.

"Quick, try to send Air Slash back with Twister!" Lincoln called out.

"On it!" Skyera called back, as she flapped her wings and summoned Twister, which did repel Air Slash. The downside? Two of the blades from Scyther's attack sliced through two of Lincoln's basket cables, causing him to nearly fall out.

"Aw crap!" Rex and Skyera exclaimed.

"Whoa, we have to stop this match, now!" Slate exclaimed, understanding the danger Lincoln's in.

Lincoln, who was able to secure himself in the bulk of the basket, clung tightly to the basket itself for dear life, "Ok, this is NOT what I was hoping for in this competition!" he panted from the adrenaline rush.

"I've just received word from the judges! Lincoln Loud will be permitted to continue participating in the competition, but he first needs to land his balloon before anything else!" the announcer boomed.

"Which will be a problem if Lincoln can't reach the parachute valve to release the hot air!" Brock exclaimed.

"I can't win a competition like this!" Rex exclaimed.

"We were brought out here to give the students a taste of a real PokeRinger competition, but the situation has become extremely dangerous! Corviknight! Forget the goal and go help Lincoln!" Slate ordered. Corviknight flew up to Lincoln's basket.

"Mandibuzz, Archeops, you guys go too!" Rex ordered, sending both of his Pokemon to give aid. But not all of Lincoln's rivals in this competition had good intentions.

Bandit Keith, seeing an opportunity to take one of Slate's Pokemon out of the competition, decided to take it, "In that case, I'll act on this! Honchkrow, use Heat Wave on Skarmory!" he ordered. Honchkrow then fired off a blast of superheated air, which dealt sizable damage to Skarmory, causing it to drop the ring, which Honchkrow went to grab, only for Fearow to grab.

"Trainers like yours shouldn't even BE allowed in events like this if they won't take things like this seriously!" Fearow spat, as she flew on up to try and help her trainer.

"Alright, that's it! No more Mr. Nice Guy! Honchkrow, use Dark Pulse!" Bandit Keith ordered. Honchkrow fired off a Dark Pulse, which scattered all the other fliers.

"What are you doing?!" Slate yelled.

"Can't you see someone's in danger?!" Rex yelled.

"Oh please, his basket's still stable! As far as I'm concerned, he's in no REAL danger!" Bandit Keith yelled, as both his Scyther and Honchkrow began fighting with the other competitors.

"That Bandit Keith…!" Misty growled.

"He's the kind of guy who'll do ANYTHING to win!" Brock added, as Lincoln able to safely board Corviknight.

"Good job, Corviknight, now take Lincoln down to the ground!" Slate ordered, as Corviknight began descending, only to get hit with a stray boulder from Archeops' Rock Slide, causing Lincoln to fall off.

"AAAAHHH!" Lincoln screamed, as he fell.

"Oh no! This bad! Can we get some help down here?!" the announcer exclaimed. Skyera was the first to dive straight for Lincoln, trying to speed up to reach him in time. Her efforts to save her trainer was enough to cause her to erupt into a bright light.

"SKYERA?!" Lincoln screamed, as Skyera swooped down below and caught Lincoln, as she began to grow larger. Her head crest also grew longer. When the light died down, Skyera became a much larger bird Pokemon with a long, red and yellow crest, which flowed smoothly down her back.

"Pidgeot has been registered to your Pokedex," Dexter stated.

"Wow, Skyera, you've evolved!" Lincoln exclaimed.

"Incredible! In an effort to save it's trainer, Lincoln's Pidgeotto has evolved into a Pidgeot!" the announcer boomed, as Skyera landed safely on the ground. Lincoln went and scanned her.

"Pidgeot, the Bird Pokemon, a Normal and Flying Type first discovered in the Kanto Region, and the evolved form of Pidgeotto. By flapping its wings with all its might, Pidgeot can make a gust of wind capable of bending tall trees. This Pokemon flies at Mach 2 speed, seeking prey. It's large talons are feared as weapons. Notice: Upon evolving, Skyera has learned the moves Hurricane, Heat Wave, and Brave Bird," Dexter explained.

"Awesome! How do you feel, Skyera?" Lincoln asked.

"I'm just glad that you're safe and sound, Lincoln. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a certain team up there to deal with," Skyera replied, as she flew back up into the air, facing down Team Bandit Keith, while Slate and Rex resumed battling for the ring once Lincoln was safe.

"Uh oh," Scyther commented.

"'Uh oh' doesn't cut it, buster!" Skyera snarled.

"Your trainer nearly killed OUR trainer, and now, we're going to be dealing with you, personally," Fearow added, equally irate with Team Bandit Keith.

"Now, take one of my newest moves! Hurricane!" Skyera began flapping her wings, whipping up a Hurricane attack, which sent both of Bandit Keith's Pokemon crashing into him.

"And now, I'll deal the final blow!" Fearow said, ramming into their balloon with Aerial Ace, sending Bandit Keith and his Pokemon flying into the wild blue yonder.

"Ordinarily, a move like attacking another team's balloon directly would warrant disqualification, but given the circumstances, the officials will overlook it this time," the announcer boomed, as Archeops placed the ring on the goal post, "AND GOAL! The winner of this year's Periwinkle City PokeRinger competition is Rex Raptor!"

"Aw yeah!" Rex exclaimed, pumping his fist, as both of his Pokemon came back up to his balloon, "You two were great out there!"

"Excellent job, Skarmory and Corviknight. We've gained valuable experience from this competition," Slate said, praising his two Pokemon.

"Ah, well, what are you gonna do?" Lincoln said, rubbing the back of his head, as both Fearow and Skyera landed. Brock and Misty joined up with him.

"It wasn't a total loss, Lincoln. Both Pokemon got to get back in the field, and Skyera evolved into Pidgeot," Misty replied. They were approached by some official looking people. One of them was holding a box.

"We're terribly sorry about that ordeal you went through, Lincoln. As an apology, as well as incentive for you to NOT press charges against the town, we offer you this," one of the people said, opening a box, containing a Mega Stone.

"Whoa, a Mega Stone!" Misty exclaimed.

"If I recall from Giro's collection, this must be Pidgeotite," Brock added.

"Please, accept it with our humblest apologies," the person from before said.

"Well, it wasn't your fault that all that craziness happened. And I wasn't planning to press charges anyhow, so I'll be more than happy to accept," Lincoln said, accepting the Mega Stone, before turning to Skyera, "Get ready, Skyera. We're going to be training hard for you to master Mega Evolution."

"I look forward to it," Skyera grinned.

Meanwhile, back at the Reynold's House,

Rita and her daughters breathed a collected sigh of relief after seeing Lincoln's near fatal fall from the balloon he was in, "Thank goodness Lincoln's safe," Rita commented.

"Still, you'd think those balloons would have some kind of reinforced cables attached to the basket," Lola commented.

"I'm just glad that Bandit Keith guy got what was coming to him," Lynn commented.

"Seriously, who would intentionally launch an attack with that sort of situation?" Lori questioned.

"Well, the important thing is Lincoln's safe. And not only that, Skyera evolved too," Lana added.

"Well, hopefully, he'll call home before too long. I'd kind of like to get his take on what happened during that competition. But in any case, it's time for bed girls. We've got ourselves another busy day ahead of us tomorrow," Rita said, as they packed it in, and went to bed.

Team Updates:
