Spider-Man: Home Alone

Author's Note: Hello, breathtaking people! Welcome to a brand-new Spidey fanfic of mine. This one is based in the MCU, and it's set one year after the events of No Way Home. I really wasn't trying to keep the "Home" themed titles going, but given how No Way Home ended, Home Alone seems like the best title for this fic. This is my take on how Peter lives in a world where nobody knows who he is, and how he deals with the feelings of loneliness. On this journey, he'll have to learn how to open up to people. Obviously, there'll be characters that'll help him in that regard, but there's three characters in particular I want to focus on. Kate Bishop, Gwen Stacy, and Felicia Hardy. No, this will not be a harem, but I'll be honest, even I don't know who I'm going to ship Peter with. Okay, maybe I have a little bit of an idea, but it's not set in stone. All three of these characters will help Peter in different ways. Kate will help remind Peter why he's Spider-Man, Gwen will be able to relate to him on an intellectual level, and Felicia will give him a sense of freedom. I think it should be an interesting dynamic to tackle.

Anyway, I'm talking too much. Let's get this party started!

Chapter 1: Brand New Day

BGM: The Spectacular Spider-Man OST – End of Summer

Nighttime

"How I celebrated my 18th birthday, by Peter Benjamin Parker." Spider-Man said to himself, as he swung from building to building, performing an elite series of acrobatic flips in the process. Like every night, or rather every day, he was on patrol. It's been a year since his last chaotic adventure, where it involved his beloved Aunt May dying, defeating villains of Spider-Man from other universes, and also literally meeting two different versions of himself. To save everyone, he had to tell Doctor Strange to cast a spell where no one knows who Peter Parker is. This includes his ex-best friend, Ned, and his ex-girlfriend, MJ.

Peter made a promise to himself that he would keep them out of harm's way, which ultimately meant he couldn't see them anymore. Both Ned and MJ were happily going to MIT, without the potential stress or danger Peter would put them through. As you can imagine, this is a difficult thing to accept, but it's for the best.

At least, this is what Peter keeps telling himself.

Ever since Doctor Strange cast the spell, Peter constantly feels like he's living in this world alone, but once again, maybe it's for the best. He hasn't gone on any missions with the Avengers by choice, electing to stay near the streets of New York City and be the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Besides, ever since his mentor Tony Stark AKA Iron Man died in the battle with Thanos, the Avengers haven't felt the same since then. Steve Rogers, the great Captain America, has retired, while Black Widow sacrificed herself for the Soul Stone. Thor and Hulk seem to be doing their own thing, while Hawkeye, meaning Clint Barton, is deciding to spend more time with his family, but he's not necessarily out of action.

Other heroes, meaning their successors, have decided to take up the mantle, but the concept of the Avengers is still in flux. It's unknown if they'll ever make a true comeback, but hey, crazier things have happened.

As Spider-Man continued to swing throughout New York, he would stop himself and land on a building. "Well, if nothing's gonna happen tonight, then maybe I can celebrate my birthday by paying rent on time for once-"

Spider-Man didn't get to finish his sentence completely, because somebody interrupted him.

"Holy crap! You're Spider-Man!"

Hearing the voice, Spider-Man quickly turned around, not expecting for someone else to be on this building. Apparently, this person was on patrol too. Once he could fully see who it was, it was a pretty girl who had long black hair, as her blue eyes were being covered by her purple aviator shades. Additionally, she was wearing a purple suit that looked similar to Clint Barton's Hawkeye suit, but not quite the same. Below the purple, she was wearing black pants. She was holding a bow, and behind her suit, multiple arrows could be seen. She also had a sword for an extra weapon.

"Uh," Spider-Man began, "Yeah, I'm Spider-Man." he casually replied, wondering who this person was. "Who are you?"

"Who am I?" repeated the girl, having a smirk on her face. "I'm Hawkeye!" she proudly said, causing Spider-Man to tilt his head.

"Wait, what?" It was clear Spidey was confused. Did he miss something? The only Hawkeye he knew was Clint. "I guess this is what I get for distancing myself from everyone." he thought to himself, wondering how much he's truly missed when it comes to other superhero things not involving him. "Did Clint retire?"

The girl laughed at Spidey's question. "Nope. He's still very much in action. He prefers to spend more time with his family these days, though." she explained. "Anyway, aside from us sharing the Hawkeye name, my actual name is Kate. Nice to meet you, Spider-Man." she paused, soon adding, "Oh, FYI, please don't call me Katie. I hate it when people do that."

How was Kate able to share her real name so nonchalantly? After what happened to Spider-Man last year, he wouldn't dare share his real name with anybody. However, in a way, he envied Kate's mindset. He knew the original Avengers weren't really big on having secret identities, but still, Kate gave her name away without a second thought.

So far, his first impressions of Kate mostly dealt with her enthusiasm. It reminded Peter of the enthusiasm he once had when Tony Stark recruited him to fight Cap's team, or how he was constantly waiting on a call from Happy to go on an Avengers level mission. Man, time flies. Life certainly has a way of changing you.

Nonetheless, Spider-Man remained silent. He wasn't trying to be rude, but over time, he's built up a wall that makes it hard for other people to come into his life. Kate noticed the silence, and after a while, it was getting kinda awkward. Kate would now try to find a way to break the silence.

"You don't have to tell me your real name." Kate assured, figuring that was the reason why Spider-Man was being so quiet. "I kinda figured you want the whole secret identity thing with the mask and all that." She would try to switch topics, being determined to have a conversation with the web-swinger. "By the way, did you say it was your birthday a few moments ago?"

However, Spider-Man wouldn't have the chance to answer the question, hearing an alarm go off at a nearby jewelry store. "Welp, duty calls." Spider-Man said, turning to Kate. "While I'd love to stay and chat," he lied, "I now have to do what I do best." Saying this, Spider-Man shot a web, now beginning to web-swing over to the jewelry store to see what caused the alarm to go off.

But Kate wouldn't give up so easily.

"I also have to do what I do best!" she shouted, shooting a grappling hook and began to swing over to the jewelry store.

Eventually, Spider-Man would land right on top of the jewelry store, trying to scope things out. "Okay, whoever is trying to steal jewelry this late at night, you might as well reveal yourself now!"

As soon as he said this, his Spider-Sense started tingling, and he would hear a voice respond to his initial statement.

"Ask and you shall receive, Spider!"

BGM: Spider-Man 2 Game Soundtrack – Black Cat Chase Part 3

Spider-Man didn't even have a second to respond, because somebody would seemingly come out of nowhere and kick him right in the chest, making him skid across the building. He would try to get up, but the person would pounce right on top of him, making him stationary for the moment.

As Spider-Man looked up to see who attacked him, he saw it was a woman with long platinum-blonde hair, but her hair actually appears to be white. She was wearing an all-black leather costume that had white fur around it. The costume itself showed some cleavage, and on her face, she had a black mask. Finally, her eyes were green, and for tonight, she had a bag wrapped around her waist for the jewels she's currently stealing.

To put it simply, she was dangerously beautiful.

"Listen, lady! You being on top of me isn't exactly what I had in mind for tonight!" Spider-Man exclaimed, making the woman smirk.

"Really? That's a shame, because it's exactly what I had in mind for tonight." the woman replied, her tone being seductive. Soon enough, Spider-Man would break free, pushing the woman off him and got right back on his feet.

"Alright, I'll bite. Who are you supposed to be?" asked Spider-Man, as the woman would point to herself.

"Me?" she playfully replied, still keeping her smirk. "I'm Black Cat, and I just crossed your path."

With Black Cat finally giving out her name, she figured it was time to make her exit, but just as she was about to leave, she saw an arrow coming straight for her. Using her quick reflexes, Black Cat dodged the arrow, but just barely.

"I got your back, Spidey!" Kate shouted, landing on the roof, and officially joining the battle.

Meanwhile, down below on the streets, somebody was watching this fight unfold. He was recording the entire thing with his phone, not wanting to miss a second. To describe this person's appearance, he has a mid-fade haircut, with his hair color being black. Also, he has brown eyes, a darker complexion, while sporting a black and red hoodie to go with black pants. For his footwear, he was wearing Chicago Air Jordan 1's.

This is Miles Morales.

"Oh man, this is so cool!" Miles said, still in the middle of trying to record everything.

Back on top of the jewelry store, Black Cat knew this would be a bit harder if it was a 2 on 1. She could most certainly handle it, but it would be difficult nonetheless. While she was trying to figure out a plan, she heard some tires screeching in the distance, causing her to look to her left. Multiple vans were starting to pull up to the jewelry store, and soon enough, Black Cat would reach a conclusion.

She would turn back to Spider-Man and Kate, saying, "It's been fun, but I think it's time I get outta here." Without wasting another second, she threw a smoke bomb on the building, making Spider-Man and Kate unable to see her as the cloud of smoke continued to grow. Once it started to clear, Spider-Man and Kate realized Black Cat was gone.

While this was going on, Miles looked behind him, now having an idea of the danger he was currently in due to all the vans pulling up. "I… should probably go now." he told himself, now trying to make a run for it, but his attempt at escaping wouldn't last for long, because the Tracksuit Mafia would surround him.

"Where do you think you're going, bro?" said a Tracksuit Mafia member, and all that could be heard was a loud gulp from Miles.

Let's see what Spider-Man and Kate are up to, shall we?

"She got away. That's just great!" Spider-Man sarcastically said, but then Kate would turn around to see all the vans that were pulling up.

"Uh, Spidey, we may have another problem." Kate told him, pointing right at the vans. "Tracksuit Mafia."

Spider-Man sighed loudly. "Why is everybody going to this jewelry store? Is there something we don't know?"

Kate had a serious look on her face. "For all we know, whatever the Tracksuit Mafia is looking for could already be stolen." she said, subtlety reminding Spidey that Black Cat stole some jewels. Still, they knew the Tracksuit Mafia couldn't be left alone, so they both jumped down to the street at the same time, ready to teach them a lesson.

When they were about to strike, the Tracksuit Mafia revealed they had a hostage, and it was Miles. It seems like he was in the area for far too long, because now, he has a gun pointed directly to his head. It's safe to say he was a bit scared.

"I wouldn't come any closer, bro." said a Tracksuit Mafia member, looking straight at Spider-Man and Kate. "Unless you want me to blow this kid's brains out."

Since Spider-Man and Kate saw there was a hostage involved, it made them stop dead in their tracks.

"Let the kid go!" Spider-Man demanded, but the Tracksuit Mafia wouldn't budge.

"Let us into that jewelry store, and we swear nobody gets hurt."

Those were the terms. Plain and simple.

Thinking about how to combat this situation, Spider-Man looked straight at Miles. "Hey, kid. You trust me?"

Miles wasn't sure what to do, but if anybody could be trusted, it was Spider-Man. He was afraid that any type of movement would set the Tracksuit Mafia off into shooting him, so the only way he was able to communicate was through eye contact.

Miles' eye contact showed he had complete faith in Spider-Man, and that was all the web-slinger needed.

Spidey would give Kate a slight nudge to follow his lead. Honestly, Kate had no idea what his plan was, but she would go along with it.

Both of them were now raising their hands in the air like they were surrendering. Once the Tracksuit Mafia saw this, they assumed they won the battle, causing them to let their guard down for a split second. In turn, this made the gun pointed at Miles' head go down.

That's all Spidey and Kate needed.

BGM: Edwin Starr - War

Seeing an opportunity, Spider-Man shot a web directly at the Tracksuit Mafia member who was holding Miles hostage. The web would strike the Tracksuit Mafia member right in the face, blinding him for a moment.

Before the Tracksuit Mafia could even react, Kate quickly shot an explosive arrow at one of their vans, creating a decently sized explosion that blasted a good bit of the Tracksuit Mafia away.

"GET OUTTA HERE, KID!" Spider-Man yelled at Miles.

"You don't gotta tell me twice!" Miles replied, now running for his life and fled the scene. Since he was safe, Spidey and Kate could now lay the smackdown on the Tracksuit Mafia.

"That was our van, bro!" said a Tracksuit Mafia member, but then he was met with a hard bow to the face that knocked him out, courtesy of Kate.

"Yeah, we don't care." replied Kate.

"You've gotten in our way for the last time, Kate Bishop!"

The Tracksuit Mafia officially declared war, but it was a war they weren't going to win.

On Spider-Man's side, he was unleashing a powerful series of combos on any Tracksuit Mafia member he saw. Front flips and back flips would turn into stylish kicks, as Spidey sent anybody that opposed him flying into another building. He followed everything up with multiple web attacks, as he even decided to yank a Tracksuit Mafia member from below and swing him around like he was in a rodeo.

"Yeeeeeeee haaaaaaaw!" exclaimed Spider-Man, using the body to hit others in the Tracksuit Mafia.

As for Kate, she's been getting better at fighting thanks to her training with Clint, and it would show in this situation. "Tony Soprano wannabes!" she shouted, bringing out her sword and showed off her own elite acrobatics. Any attack that was thrown at Kate, she would dodge it effortlessly. Her counterattack would be slicing and dicing all the Tracksuit Mafia members. These attacks didn't come with the intention of killing, but it did come with the intention of giving out some serious pain.

Throw some arrows in there, with a few of them being explosive, and you'd think a Michael Bay movie was being filmed with all the explosions. "How're you doing on your side, Spidey?!"

"No problems whatsoever!" responded Spider-Man, webbing up the last Tracksuit Mafia member and throwing him right at Kate. "Special delivery!"

Kate saw the body coming her way, and a grin would appear on her face. Once the body was close enough, she performed a roundhouse kick that made the Tracksuit Mafia member unconscious.

With the battle ending, Spidey and Kate were seen standing on opposite sides. They were both taking note of each other's skills during the fight.

BGM Ends

"Not bad." Spidey told her, making Kate fold her arms.

"Not bad?" Kate repeated, not believing what she just heard as she got closer to Spidey. "Come on, Spidey, you know I was awesome." she paused, adding, "Also, that last tag team move? Masterful. We definitely had a moment there."

One thing was for sure, Kate was determined to get Spidey to open up more. She was continuing to debate about who had the better fighting performance, but while this was going on, this meant her guard was down.

One Tracksuit Mafia member who wasn't completely knocked out wanted revenge after the beatdown Spidey and Kate gave the whole crew.

He still had his gun.

While remaining down, the Tracksuit Mafia member aimed his gun right at Kate's leg. For Kate, she didn't have a clue on what was about to happen, but then… the sound of a gunshot would follow soon afterwards.

Spider-Man's Spider-Senses were going crazy when the gun was fired, and now, everything seemed to be moving in slow motion. Spider-Man was analyzing everything, and there was one clear conclusion.

If something wasn't done soon, a bullet was going to go through Kate.

Moving on pure instinct, and knowing that Kate's body was close to his, Spidey would swiftly push Kate out of the way. In Spider-Man's case, everything was still going in slow motion, but for someone like Kate, everything was happening in the blink of an eye.

By pushing Kate out of the way, Spidey didn't have enough time to fend for himself, which made him an easy target. The bullet would strike his right leg, causing him to fall and hold it in pain.

It took a moment for Kate to process everything, but once she did, she was shocked. If Spider-Man wasn't there to take the bullet… it's safe to say she wouldn't be feeling too great right now, to put it lightly.

Once she realized who shot the gun, Kate kicked the guy right in the face, knocking him out. Then she immediately ran to where Spider-Man was, kneeling to check on him. "Spidey! Are you okay?!"

Spider-Man groaned. "I've been better, but I've also been through worse." he told her, trying to get up. Kate would help him up, clearly being worried for him.

"Can you walk?" she asked.

Spider-Man gave a confirming nod. "Yeah, I can walk. I have a limp, but it's manageable. My body doesn't take too long to heal." he told her. Being shot in the leg on his 18th birthday definitely wasn't on his list, but this is what happens when you're Spider-Man. Is it also Parker Luck? It's probably Parker Luck.

Spider-Man looked up to the night sky, now figuring it was time to leave. "Well, I gotta web-swing back home now, so-"

"You're gonna do what?" Kate interrupted, replaying what Spider-Man just tried to say to her. "You're gonna web-swing back home? After you just got shot in the leg?" This entire thing was absolutely ridiculous to her. "Nope, sorry. That's not happening. You're recovering at my place tonight."

Spidey didn't want to go along with Kate's plans. "Kate, listen. I'll be okay. You don't have to worry about me."

"Hey, tough guy, listen to me," Kate began, soon adding, "You helped me out big time tonight by taking the bullet, so please let me return the favor in helping you." she told him. "Oh, and I'm not taking no for an answer, you got that?"

At this point, Spidey knew it would be futile to argue with Kate about this. His body language would show that he's given up the idea of web-swinging back to his home.

"Okay, okay, I got it."

Bishop Residence

Kate would help Spider-Man get to the Bishop Residence, which was an astonishingly beautiful penthouse. Ever since Kate put her mom in jail, she's been living here. Obviously, Kate is used to it since she grew up in a rich family, but for somebody like Peter, who struggles with paying for rent every single month, his mouth went agape. Kate couldn't see it since Spider-Man's mask was covering his face, but it's clear this was the last thing he expected.

"You live here?" Spidey asked, his voice being in disbelief.

"Yeah," Kate casually replied. "I kinda grew up rich. This was my mom's penthouse, but now it's mine."

Spidey still couldn't believe it. This is the type of stuff that makes you wonder where you went wrong in your life. Kate would then help Spidey get to the living room, letting him sit on the couch to rest. In mere moments, Kate's Golden Retriever, Lucky, would see Spidey and start to sniff him. Spidey noticed Lucky was missing his left eye, but he didn't say anything about it. He felt sorry for him, though.

"This is Lucky, the best boy in the world." said Kate, as Spidey would proceed to pet him. Even if he does have a wall up these days, the mere presence of a dog can change that.

"What's up, Lucky?" Spidey spoke, as Lucky would lick his hand.

Kate smiled at the sight, but now, she knew she had work to do. "Okay, I gotta head out for a minute, so don't go anywhere. If you try to escape, I'll track you down!" she exclaimed, dramatically pointing at Spidey before leaving the penthouse to run some errands.

Sometime Later

It took some time for Kate to come back, but eventually, she did. When she came back to the living room, she was carrying a bunch of stuff. Balloons, a birthday cake, and some pizza. This might've shocked Spidey more than seeing the penthouse.

"Kate, what's all of this for?" he asked, and Kate would smile.

"Surprise!" she shouted. "Remember when I overheard you saying it was your birthday? Well, I didn't forget. I'd imagine saving me from a bullet isn't what you had in mind for your birthday, so me getting you this stuff is the least I could do." Kate explained, setting everything down on the table. "This is my thanks to you, so… Thank you, Spidey, and happy birthday."

Spider-Man wasn't sure what to say or think. Yeah, getting shot wasn't part of his birthday plans, but… for Kate to go out of her way to do this for him, that says a lot about her as a person. Sure, you could say she's returning the favor after Spidey saved her, but in reality, she didn't have to do anything.

But she did something anyway.

Kate realizes that being a hero can be a thankless job sometimes, so it's important to let those same heroes know you appreciate everything they do, because you never know what they're going through in their own lives.

Seeing all of this unfold reminded Peter how Aunt May and Uncle Ben tried their best to make his birthdays special. They didn't have much money, but they tried their hardest to make sure Peter knew he was loved.

It took a lot for Spidey to not just break down and cry in this very moment. Everything he's recently gone through within the past year has made him feel pain, loneliness, sadness, and all the above. There's been days where he's wondered if he can go on. Spider-Man's thing is that no matter what's thrown at him, he always finds a way to get back up.

It gets harder and harder everyday to get back up, but gestures like this… when kindness is reciprocated, these are the things that remind him why he's Spider-Man. If he can inspire somebody to spread kindness somewhere, then all the suffering becomes worth it.

Though, Spidey's silence was worrying Kate a bit. The silence came from him trying not to cry, but Kate didn't know this.

However, Spidey would finally find the right words to say, and they were rather simple.

"Thank you, Kate."

His words were genuine and sincere. Kate felt it. She felt the appreciation, but she could also feel the hidden pain behind his words.

Kate sat right next Spidey, trying to figure out what to say. "You know what would bring the mood up? Some music."

At a moment's notice, she grabbed a remote and activated her stereo system, as it began to play some music.

BGM Suddenly Ends

Kate would quickly turn off the music, now being super embarrassed since she didn't want Spidey to get the wrong idea. A blush formed on her face, and under Spidey's mask, he was blushing too.

Kate had to keep it pushing.

"Uh, sorry. Must've been my mom's playlist." Kate said, having an awkward laugh that followed her statement. She would try again, and this time, the right song would be chosen.

BGM: 50 Cent – In da Club

"There we go, that's the one I was looking for!" exclaimed Kate, feeling proud of herself. "Now this is officially a real birthday party!"

Spidey could only laugh at Kate's words. "If my leg was 100 percent, I'd start dancing right now." As he said this, he looked at the hot pizza, rubbing his hands together. "But since I can't dance, I declare this period of time as pizza time."

"You should probably get your pizza early then. Lucky can eat a whole box by himself." Kate informed him. "Oh, and I hope you like the cake. Chocolate was the only one left at the store."

"I love chocolate cake, so there's no complaints here." Spidey assured, and in his mind, he was still trying to not be in disbelief. Everything felt surreal. Should he hug Kate right now? Part of him feels like he should, but… that would be an indication of him getting closer to her. By all accounts, Kate seems like she would be a great friend.

But Spider-Man doesn't do friends.

Not anymore. Not after what happened last year.

He's trying to save himself from the pain of potential loss. Although, he's failing to realize that not opening up to people and choosing to be alone is making him suffer even more than what he needs to be.

Why was everything so confusing?
