PROLOGUE
Pyrrha's little sister stood in front of the mirror of their home. She was the spitting image of her older sister. The same red hair, and green eyes. The difference was her pixie haircut, and she was more frail and slender, but that doesn't mean she wasn't strong. In fact this little sister was filled with an unnatural amount of... rage. Without many of the tools or training of a huntress, she decides to go out on her own.
She has no allies, she has no mentor, and she has no backup. As she begins to search for her sister's death it will show her how strong she can be, how fast she can be, and how determined she is to carry out her own mission for her sister. She will learn to grow in both knowledge and skills. And she will also learn what it means to be a Nikos.
Chryso is traveling in the woods when her Scroll begins to ring. The light blinds and dazzles her, but she sees her mothers face on the screen. This gives her pause. she picks up. "Hello mom..? Oh no"
—"Chryso honey, where are you?" Her mom's voice is sweet, but Chryso can tell there's an undercurrent of concern. Her mom knows when Chryso lies, her mom always knows.
—"My darling daughter, are you all alone in the woods? There are terrible and dangerous things in the woods, and you shouldn't be wandering around by yourself! I want you back here right this instant, you hear me?" Pandora says, her scolding tone making her heart sink. Chryso sighed. She knew that she was letting her mom down. That cute lady with glasses certainly did not want another statue of one of her daughters to mourn to.
But justice had to be done.
CHAPTER I
Strength to Stand
Chryso stepped into the arena, her heart pounding with excitement and nerves. She was wearing a hood and a falcon mask to conceal her identity, not wanting anyone to know who she really was. The arena was filled with a rowdy, bloodthirsty crowd, cheering and shouting bets. Chryso took a deep breath, her fists clenched tight around Helmetheus, her axe and rifle, colored in bronze, Chryso gave the doorkeeper a thumbs up, telling the ox faunus that she was ready for whatever terror it held off.
The doorkeeper nodded, giving Chryso a faint smile of encouragement. They had been friends for a while, and the keeper knew that Chryso was a skilled fighter despite her young age. They signaled for the fighting doors to open, and Chryso braced herself, ready to face whatever came out next.
Before she could even react, the Ursa charged towards her, its razor-sharp claws outstretched. Chryso dodged and leaped to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack. But she was quick on her feet, and she countered with a swift punch to its side. The Grimm roared in pain, but that only angered it. It lunged again, aiming for her neck with its jaws open wide.
—"Alright, ladies and gentlemen, place your bets!" An elderly goat faunus woman chuckled in the stands. The crowd cheered and the gamblers placed their bets. Some cheered Chryso on, while others jeered at the Grimm. What is she thinking!? She's definitely losing! Look at the size of that thing! Chryso charged at the Ursa. Standing her ground and swallowing her fear away.
—No fear! Chryso repeated in her head. She stood her ground, staring at the Ursa with determination. As it charged towards her, she raised her fists in a defensive position, ready to strike. The Ursa's claws slashed at her, but Chryso ducked and weaved, dodging as it lunged and swiped. She was always just out of reach, her speed surprising the Grimm.
—"Go girl!" A young bat faunus cheered on her.
The sound of the faunus' cheers gave Chryso a boost of confidence. She could almost hear Pyrrha's voice in her head, whispering words of encouragement. Keep going! You're doing good!
As Chryso continued to fight the Ursa, the faunus in the stands continued to cheer her on. Their encouragement gave her the strength to push forward, to keep fighting even as the Grimm got more and more aggressive. She could almost hear Pyrrha's voice in the back of her mind, cheering her on. You've got this, Chrys. Remember. Keep your grip tight… keep your front foot forward.
The fight was intense, but Chryso was determined to win. She dodged and attacked, her fists flying as she moved around the arena. The crowd was going wild, cheering and shouting for her to win. Grimm's attacks were becoming more and more powerful and fast, but Chryso didn't back down. She kept going, her determination fuelling her every move.
She could feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins, and her muscles screamed in protest, but she kept going. With a final move, she managed to land a powerful strike on Grimm's jaw. The sound of bones breaking echoed throughout the arena as the Grimm roared in pain. The crowd went wild as Chryso stood victorious over her defeated foe.
—"Ladies and gentlemen. Another victory for the Red Falcon!" Chryso raised her arms in victory as the announcer called out her name. Yes! Chryso thought, feeling the rush of victory course through her veins. She stood in the middle of the arena, breathing heavily and sweat dripping down her face. The crowd cheered and clapped, impressed by her fighting skills and her impressive display of strength. As she made her way out of the arena, she couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and satisfaction.
—"Well. Sweetheart. Enjoy this!" The elderly woman paid Chryso her part of the wager.
Chryso thanked the elderly woman graciously and took the money, slipping it safely into her pocket. She couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement at the thrill of the win. As she watched the old woman disappear into the crowd, Chryso felt a sense of contentment. She had won the fight, and she had proven herself once again. Pyrrha would be proud. Her opponents were intimidating; they had fought and won several battles before her.
Chryso's heart sank as she saw the face of Cinder Fall on the wall of wanted photos. She felt a wave of anger and sadness wash over her as she thought back to Pyrrha's death at the hands of this horrible woman. Her fists clenched as she stared at the photo, her eyes filled with rage. I'll get you... she vowed.
With newfound determination, Chryso tore down the photo and tucked it safely in her pocket. She knew what she had to do now. She had to find Cinder Fall and make her pay for what she had done to Pyrrha, and for all the pain she had caused. But first, she needed a plan.
Back at the Nikos manor. Pandora was cleaning her pottery, trying not to think of her deceased child. She hummed to herself as she worked, her hands moving over the clay in soft, soothing motions. The moonlight streaming through the windows illuminated the room, reflecting off the ceramic pieces and casting patterns of light and shadow on the walls. Despite the late hour, Pandora was awake, unable to rest, her mind racing.
Chryso silently entered the manor, trying to go stealth and unnoticed. She crept quietly through the halls of the manor, her footsteps barely making a sound. She knew how to move quietly, how to sneak around in the shadows. She had perfected the art of sneaking out and in, and she was good at it.
—"Meow" She heard Achilles. Pyrrha's cat greeting her. She tried to shoosh the tabby little creature. She shushed the little tabby cat, trying to keep it quiet.
The last thing she needed was for her mother to find her sneaking home at this hour. However, the cat was insistent. It meowed again, this time a little louder, obviously wanting attention.
She sighed, scratching the cat behind the ears. It purred, rubbing its head against her hand. She knew she had to give it a little attention before it drew her mother's attention. As she petted the cat, she felt a pang of guilt. This was Pyrrha's cat, and Pyrrha had loved it dearly.
—"Achilles... I'll get you tuna from the kitchen... if you shut up"
The mention of tuna got the cat's attention, and it stopped meowing immediately, perking its head up and looking at Chryso attentively.
She chuckled quietly, shaking her head.
—"You are just like Pyrrha, you know that?"
Achilles purred at the mention of his late master. He missed her so much. In his cat mind, he wondered when she would come back, not knowing that she would never enter the manor again, like she did during vacation time in Beacon.
—"Here kitty!" Chryso said, after opening a can of tuna. She grabbed one too for dinner.
Chryso picked up Achilles and held him tight, allowing him to cuddle into her arms. She missed Pyrrha too. She missed her sister's presence, her strength, her courage. She missed Pyrrha's laughter, her smile, and her kindness. She felt tears well up in her eyes as she held the cat closer.
The sound of the can opening had the little cat almost leaping out of her arms. Achilles was clearly excited to get his fill of tuna, his little pink tongue already sticking out. Chryso put the cat down and gently placed the bowl in front of him. Achilles wasted no time in digging into his meal, purring loudly with contentment.
Chryso rushed upstairs to her room, happy to see that her mother had not noticed her. In front of her room, the door of Pyrrha's was open, the bedroom was intact… Stepping into Pyrrha's room sent chills down her spine. Everything was left just as Pyrrha had left it, the bed neatly made and her belongings still in their usual places. The room felt almost frozen in time, as if Pyrrha would return at any moment. Chryso felt a pang of grief as she looked around the room, taking in the sight of her sister's absence.
The trophies seemed almost mocking in their presence, a reminder of Pyrrha's strength and skill as a fighter. Chryso felt a mix of pride and sadness as she looked at them. She knew that Pyrrha had worked hard to win them, and she was proud of her sister for achieving such great things. But at the same time, she couldn't help but feel a sense of emptiness that she would never get to celebrate her achievements again.
Chryso closed the door of her bedroom and sighed. Trying not to cry again. Pyrrha hated to see her baby sister sad… The thought of Pyrrha's disapproval sent a shiver down Chryso's spine. She could almost hear her sister scolding her for crying. ''Get strong Chrys'' Pyrrha would tell her. ''Be the best.''
Tears welled up in her eyes anyway. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't stop them from falling. She sat on Pyrrha's bed and buried her face in her hands, sobbing silently.
—"Sis. Are you okay up there?" Chryso whispered as she opened the curtains to gaze upon the starry sky of Argus, the moon illuminated the bay beautifully, it looked like a painting. Chryso wiped her tears away, and looked out the window. The beauty of the night sky always took her breath away, the way the stars twinkled and the moon glowed. She could almost imagine Pyrrha was out there somewhere, watching over her from the heavens.
—''Are you watching Pyrrha? Are you seeing how hard I'm trying to be strong?''
The thought of Pyrrha watching over her gave her a sense of comfort. It was as if her sister was always with her, even in spirit. Chryso closed her eyes, imagining Pyrrha's calming presence beside her. Maybe it was all just wishful thinking, but in this moment, she could almost feel her presence, whispering words of encouragement. "You're strong, keep going, sis"
—"Say hi to grandma and grandpa. Okay?" Chryso sighed once more.
Chryso smiled faintly, imagining Pyrrha in the stars, surrounded by their grandparents. In her mind, she could almost see Pyrrha nodding, a soft smile on her lips. I will. I'll tell them how proud I am of you.
With that, Chryso felt a sense of peace wash over her. It was a small comfort, but it was enough. Pyrrha may be gone, but she was not forgotten. Chryso promised herself that she would continue to make her sister proud, and she knew that Pyrrha would be watching over her every step of the way.
