It's been a bit, but I'm finally making progress on this one. I know how it will end, I just need to get there. Enjoy the update and thanks for reading.

Connie and I returned to Stormwind after taking almost three months for our honeymoon. We'd gone to one of the crown's rustic estates and had enjoyed being just a newly married couple, rather than royalty. I'd been able to relax, knowing my father had the throne well in hand.

That being said, I also finally got some perspective about many of the things my father told me about the crown. Mainly, the part about his desire to always have a Wrynn on the throne of Stormwind. I now understood why he always wanted me, specifically, to take the throne when he left the city, regardless of my age. I felt calmer knowing my father was there, even over Genn Greymane, who knew much about ruling, but wasn't a Wrynn. Stormwind was in our blood.

My father was waiting when we arrived home, smiling broadly. I was still getting used to seeing my father happy most of the time. His whole attitude had changed since he returned. Without the stress of being king, he was almost a different person, but in a very good way.

"Welcome home." He said, giving me and Connie hugs. Fortunately, I'd convinced him not to actually treat me like a king, ignoring the formal title, bowing and the like. It was just too weird to have my own father treat me so formally.

"It was a great vacation, but it does feel good to be home." I replied.

Father nodded. "It always feels good to come home, regardless of why you left."

"I know you're eager to get back into the swing of things, but I'm going to go take a nap. It was a long trip." Connie said, her words being punctuated with a yawn. She kissed me on the check and headed into the keep.

Once she disappeared through the door, Father turned to me, giving me an even bigger smile. "And I'm sure you didn't get much sleep while you were gone, either."

I laughed, but I'm fairly sure I was blushing a little.

Father wrapped an arm around my shoulders and started to guide me towards the keep. "There's nothing to be embarrassed about, Son. You're a married man now. And you were on your honeymoon."

"You're really in a good mood."

Father shrugged. "Life is good."

I laughed, but stopped and turned to him. "Okay, now I know something is up. You're never this happy and I left you with that nasty land dispute to deal with, so you shouldn't be in this good of a mood."

"I'm just happy, Anduin. I know you didn't get to see this side of me very often in the past, but I'm sure you'll get used to it." He headed towards the war room. "I'm alive and well, with an adult son, who makes me more and more proud of him everyday. An adult son who's a wonderful king and happily married."

I laughed. My father's happiness was contagious, though I had a feeling there was more to his mood than he was telling me, but I let the thought go for the time being.

"Now, let me tell you how I haven't totally destroyed your city while you were gone, then you can join your wife in a nap."

The briefing with my father only lasted an hour, leaving me to return to my chambers and my sleeping wife. I entered to find Connie in the sitting room, sipping a cup of tea. She looked up and smiled at me as I approached. It felt wonderful to enter my chamber to that smiling face.

"Well, that didn't take long."

I sat next to her. "Father did a wonderful job keeping everything running while we were gone. There really wasn't much to be discussed. Why are you still awake?"

"I'm waiting for you. Judging by your father's mood, I figured he'd shoo you away quickly."

"I wonder why he is so happy? I mean, I know he's happy to have his life back and everything, but he wasn't this happy before we left."

Connie smiled behind her tea as she took a sip. "I think I know why." She said in a sing-songy voice. "If I had to guess, it's all thanks to a certain redhead."

"You don't think they're sleeping together, do you?"

"Come on now, Babe. What else would put that kind of smile on a man's face?"

I laughed. "I really don't want to think about what my father does in his bedchamber, but I suppose you're right. I'm not sure how I feel about this."

Connie put her tea down and cuddled up next to me. "Be happy for him. From what you've told me, Varian has been alone since your mother was killed. It's nice that he can find some companionship. Not to mention, from what I've learned of Vala, she deserves someone in her life. Five years in a demon dimension is a long time to be alone. There is an age difference, but those types of things don't matter. Not really."

"You're right, of course, but I just worry."

"Think of it this way, Anduin, you might get a sibling after all."

I groaned. "I don't want to think about my father getting a woman pregnant."

Connie surprised me by climbing into my lap. "How about thinking about getting me pregnant?"

I wrapped my arms around her with a chuckle. "Now that I can do."

I have the next 4 chapters written, so it should be so long between updates...
