AN: Hey everybody, it's been crazy for a bit. Finished up 2024 by finally taking a belated Honeymoon with my wife to New Orleans. Then the day after we got back the attack happens not even a ten minute walk from the hotel we stayed at. Now that we're back my wife and I have found a house we want to buy so that's going to be taking my attention until it's finalized in March. I'll still try to post but it'll just be the two story updates until things calm down.
Son of the Moon
Chapter 64
-Jason-
Letting out a roar of jubilation, Jason threw a hard punch with his Imperial Golden hand, caving in the shield of the Legionnaire who had dared to try and challenge him. The battle was raging all around as he led the forces of Kronos against the combined forces of the Amazons that had refused to side with them and the Roman Legion. The sharp whistle was his only warning to escape his thoughts as Jason leapt back as a barbed bolthead flew through where his eye had just been. Following the flight path, he saw a woman standing tall, familiar long hair flowing out from beneath the Praetor's helm.
"Reyna." Jason grinned widely, looking forward to finally claiming what was his. Surging forward, Jason made the wind swirl around him in a raging tempest, scattering the lesser demigods like flies. There was nobody in the Legion that could even come close to his level of power, and it was showing here.
Reyna wasn't a slouch herself though, dropping the crossbow she'd used to fire the bolt at him and drew her gladius. Her Pegasus was nowhere to be seen but that made sense, trying to fight him in the air was even more suicidal than the idiots attacking him on the ground.
"Grace." Reyna's voice was somewhat muffled through the helm, but it was oh so familiar that he couldn't wait to finish this battle and finally enjoy his prize. He'd break that resistance and turn her fire into more 'productive' uses.
"Oh, don't be like that." Jason grinned wider, thrusting almost playfully with his pilum as Reyna parried the strike, lashing out with an armored foot as he lazily glided out if reach, "I thought you missed me?"
"The only thing I missed about you was your throat. It would seem I got your hand instead." Reyna scoffed as Jason laughed louder, raising the gleaming golden prosthetic.
"Yes, beautiful, isn't it?" he wiggled the fingers as lightning arced between them "So much stronger than flesh, and it can't feel pain! I'm even stronger than I was before. So, thank you my dear," he gave a grand bow, lazily hurling a bolt at lightning at the son of Mercury who tried attacking him from behind "I'll be sure to thoroughly 'reward' you once this battle is finished."
"Everyone, leave Grace to me!" Reyna called out as she began to glow with a crimson aura he'd only seen her use a rare few times, a blessing of the war goddess Bellona "Push through their forces! Othrys must fall!"
"You really think you can take me by yourself?" Jason chuckled as he let the enemy forces move past him to follow her orders. This wouldn't take long so he could let them have a bit of hope before breaking it. Who knows, maybe seeing their leader surrender to him and knowing her place would quell that fighting spirit.
"Easily." Reyna's voice was cold as they charged each other.
-Percy-
Standing at the war table, Percy frowned as he wolfed down a quick meal. The siege of New York had been unrelenting as his allies worked to fend off the Titan forces. The problem though was that Monsters could just come back eventually when killed. The stronger monsters usually took longer but he had no idea if Tartarus was going to help Kronos in freeing then early. Meanwhile his own forces took much longer to recover.
"Percy, there's been a messenger." Clarisse spoke up as she slammed open the door to the Empire State Building lobby, "An envoy of the Titans wants to meet, they've promised a halt to the siege during this discussion."
"Did they say where?" Percy looked up, planning to take advantage of this to try and get more information as to what allies Kronos brought. It would also give his sisters in Central Park time to rest if the rules of parley were held up. While his forces in the southern part of New York had been able to hold the bridges and tunnels well there were larger groups of enemies coming from the north that were being held back by Chiron's kin in the Party Ponies as well as his sisters of the Hunt.
"Central Park." Clarisse tapped a spot on the map as Percy nodded, having foreseen the stronger members of the Titan army taking that route to avoid the blockades they'd readied in the south.
"I'll go." He nodded, "I want you to set up traps and solid barricades in the tunnels and bridges while I'm gone." He wanted his forces ready to be able to focus on the horde that would doubtlessly be descending from the north.
"Going alone?" Clarisse frowned even as she got ready to go enact his orders.
"Bianca, you're with me." He looked to his love, knowing this would give her a chance to rest and relieve Nico when she got back "The rest of you, be ready in case this is a trap."
Mounting up on a Pegasus, they flew to the arranged meeting spot as he got an arial view of the City. Smoke rose from the buildings where ovens and fires had been left burning when the curse had begun, the demigods too young to fight being sent on constant runs to collect unconscious mortals from dangerous areas and bring them to safety.
"The Mist is going to have to do a lot to cover all this up." Bianca frowned as they got closer and closer to the large patch of green "The whole world is going to want to figure out what's going on."
"Perhaps pretending it's a terrorist act?" Percy frowned, unsure of what exactly would be the excuse regular mortals would be fed, "That's a problem for after we've won though." Getting to the park he saw a meeting table laid out with a Titan sitting at it, calm and confident.
"Epimetheus." Percy easily recognized the Titan of Afterthought, having looked into all the Titans once the war become inevitable "This is a surprise." Nobody had heard much about the brother of Prometheus since the ancient days.
"Ah, so you're the famous Percy Jackson." Epimetheus grinned as he approached the table along with Bianca, taking the seats that awaited them "I'm so glad you made the wise choice in meeting with me."
"What can I say, you had me curious." Percy shrugged, wanting to drag this out as much as he could, "Although I certainly wasn't expecting you to have joined the Titans. You sided with the Olympians even at the height of the Titan's power before."
"And look where that got me!" Epimetheus' friendly expression was gone in an instant, "Why would I support Zeus again?"
"Besides the reason you chose to leave Kronos the first time and the fact that Grandfather has been improving?" Percy raised a calm eyebrow as Epimetheus scoffed in derision.
"Improving? Do you actually believe that farce?" Epimetheus rolled his eyes in derision "Deities don't change that quickly brat. Zeus has spent millennia being a stain on the name of the gods. A couple years of him 'acting' better is no more than a drop in the bucket. It's a trick for him to get what he wants, nothing more."
"You're too skeptical." Percy frowned "I've seen my grandfather; I've seen him change." He trusted the truth of his own eyes.
"And you're too naïve." Epimetheus sneered, "You should surrender now boy, before too many of your people's lives are lost. You're strong for a demigod, there's no doubt about that. But what chance do you have against gods and Titans?"
"I've already killed giants." Percy replied calmly "I've slain monsters and more. Your suggestion is noted and discarded Epimetheus. This war will not end the way you think it will, Titan of Afterthought. Be sure to go back to your master and let him know of your failure to sway me. I'm sure he'll be 'forgiving'."
-Hylla-
Gritting her teeth, Hylla deflected Jason Grace's gladius strike, her sister's armor holding up well as she fought the son of Jupiter whose personality bore an unfortunate resemblance to his father's old bad habits. The armies had moved past them as she worked to keep Jason here, knowing he was the most dangerous thing besides the sole Titan left in the area.
"How long can you keep this up Reyna?" Jason crooned, clearly relishing 'the hung' as he fought her, having not yet picked up the slight differences between Hylla and her sister.
"As long as I have to." She snarled, knowing she needed to finish this soon before he figured out who she really was and just started letting loose with the lightning.
"You're cute when you're delusional." Jason laughed, throwing his head back with carefree arrogance. But his eyes being off her was just the opening she needed. Focusing, Hylla drew on the strength of her golden belt, the symbol of her status as the Amazon queen, the enchantments boosting her strength and speed even further as she rocketed forward. Jason had gotten used to how fast she had been moving, how hard she hit. With his eyes up, even just for a moment, he wasn't prepared for her boost. Hylla's gladius flashed, cutting off Grace's still flesh arm while she dropped her shield to bring out a dagger, jamming it into the mechanisms of his golden prosthetic hand.
"How's that for delusional, Grace?" Hylla smirked as Jason froze for a split moment of incredulous shock. Then the pain hit as he screamed, lashing out with lightning as Hylla was forced to leap away or be charred. She could smell the scent of cooked meat as Grace allowed the lightning to burn him, cauterizing the stump of his second lost limb while he tore out her dagger with his teeth, the limb still twitching and jerking spasmodically.
"I'm going to break you Reyna." Jason snarled.
"Rather hard, since I'm not Reyna." Hylla grinned, her eyes taking note of movement behind Jason as she lifted her helm, wanting his attention locked her way "Surprise."
"You?" he gaped before his face twisted with insane fury "You bitc-!" the insult was cut off by a spear piercing through Jason's chest, dripping crimson as the traitor gripped it in shock.
"Death to traitors." Dakota, son of Bacchus, scoffed as he quickly swung his sword through Jason Grace's neck, at least giving the son of Jupiter the mercy of a quick death.
"Good work." She nodded to the man as she put the helm back on, "I'll be sure to tell my sister of your accomplishment once this war is over." And she'd make sure to thank Reyna for informing a few choice Centurions of the ruse so that they'd be ready to help her if a situation like that one that had just occurred came to be.
