PART ONE:
Five-year-old Lily Doodle looked out the airplane window. She felt her mother, Sophie, next to her.
"Momma, why do we have to move?" Lily asked, "I'm missing all my friends."
"Luckily, we're moving during the summer" Klayton - Lily's dad said.
Sophie looked at her husband, raising an eyebrow, "what does that have to do with anything?"
Lily chuckled, "when do we land? I'm getting bored."
"Soon, love" Klayton said, smiling.
"Ladies and gentlemen, return to your seats and buckle up - we'll be landing at the Queensland Airport in about fifteen minutes" a stewardess announced over the loudspeaker.
"Does that answer your question?" Sophie asked her only child.
"Yes it does" Lily said, making sure she had everything in her backpack.
Fifteen minutes later, the plane landed at the Queensland Airport.
"Make sure you get everything" Klayton said to his family.
"Right" Sophie and Lily said in unison. They got their carryon bags and exited the plane.
Since it was Lily's first time flying, the captain gave her a pin of Pilot Wings.
"Thank you" Lily said kindly, putting the pin in the front of her backpack.
Once everyone got off the plane, Sophie, Lily and Klayton went to Baggage Claim.
"Where's all our furniture?" Lily asked as she and her parents got in their new car with their luggage.
"It's at the new house, love" Klayton said as he got in the driver's seat.
The three of them drove to their new house where the moving trucks were.
The movers were busy bringing things in and out of the house.
"Which room is mine?" Lily asked, getting out of the back seat after undoing her booster buckle.
"You're in the basement. Is that all right?" Klayton asked.
Lily nodded, wagging her tail, "I was in the basement of our old house."
"That's right, dearest" Sophie said, smiling.
Lily went to the basement, turning on the light.
The basement was large - on one side, there was the laundry room and in the middle was a large area that would be a play room. There was also a door that was wide open - movers were going in and out of the room.
"Mom, I'm in the basement, but I don't see my room!" Lily called up the stairs.
"There should be a door to the left - your room is through there" Sophie said, coming down the stairs with a box. She smiled, "shall I show you your room?"
Lily nodded and followed her mom, feeling her tail wag as she and her mom entered the room on the other side of the play room.
"Wow!" Lily said as she and Sophie stepped through the open door.
The room was a large square. The walls were painted purple (Lily's favorite color).
The carpet was purple and her bed was in the middle of the room. Boxes labeled 'LILY'S ROOM' were all around the bed.
"I know the walls are bare now, but in time, we'll put up your pictures, horse and ballerina posters" Sophie said, hugging her daughter close, "we can even do sponge paint, if you want."
"I would like that" Lily said, smiling.
"SOPHIE! LILY! WE HAVE VISITORS!" Klayton yelled down the stairs later that afternoon.
The two of them headed up the stairs and saw a family of blue & red heelers, their tails wagging happily.
"We just wanted to welcome you to the family - I'm Chili and this is my family, husband Bandit and our two girls Bingo and Bluey" the red heeler adult - Chili - said in a friendly tone.
"Welcome to the neighborhood" Bandit said - he was a blue heeler.
Like the Heeler family, Lily and her parents were different colors - Lily and Sophie were tan and Klayton was black.
"I'm Klayton and this is my family - wife Sophie and daughter Lily" Klayton said.
"We're almost done unpacking, so Lily, if you want, you can go play with Bingo and Bluey" Sophie said.
Lily hid behind her mother's leg and shook her head. Lily was shy when she didn't know anyone.
"We were going to play Grocery Store. Wanna play?" Bluey asked Lily kindly.
Lily shook her head, "no thanks" she said quietly.
"You probably don't have any food yet, so why don't you come to our house for dinner? Let's say six?" Chili said.
"We would love that" Sophie said, smiling.
"We live there" Bingo said, pointing to a house at the top of the cul-de-sac.
"My brother and his family will be there" Bandit said.
"Okay" Sophie said, smiling.
At five fifty-five, the Doodle family headed over to the Heeler house.
"Lily, do you want to ring the doorbell?" Klayton asked.
Lily nodded and rang the doorbell, holding her stuffed owl Athena under one arm.
Chili smiled as she answered the door, "welcome Doodle family! Come outside - that's where everyone is."
The three Doodle family members followed Chili outside, getting a guided tour in the meantime.
"Everyone, these are our new neighbors - the Doodle family. Klayton, Sophie and Lily. Sophie, Klayton and Lily, I want you to meet Bandit's brother Stripe, his wife Trixie and their daughters Muffin and Socks" Chili said.
"Welcome Doodle family!" Bandit said from the grill.
Klayton and Sophie went to interact with the adults while Lily made her way to where Bluey and Bingo, along with their cousins were.
"Hi Lily!" Bingo greeted Lily as she came over.
"Hi. What are you playing?" Lily asked, watching Socks come over to her and start sniffing her, "oh, hello."
"Bark! Bark!" Socks barked.
"That's Socks" Bluey said, "she's harmless. We were just deciding what to-"
"WHY ARE YOU IGNORING ME?!" Muffin yelled impatiently.
"Sorry Muffin! We're talking with our new friend, Lily" Bingo said.
"Well, hurry up so we can play!" Muffin said.
"You'll have to excuse Muffin - she's a little demanding" Bluey said quietly.
Lily chuckled, "it's okay. My cousin, Misha, is the same way."
"Do you have any brothers or sisters?" Bingo asked.
Lily shook her head.
"That's okay" Bluey said, looking at Bingo, "you can play with Bingo sometimes."
Lily chuckled, "speaking of playing - OW!" She yelped. She looked at her arm and saw it was bleeding. She started howling loudly.
Klayton came running over to where the girls were and knelt down next to Lily, "what happened?"
"Something bit me!" Lily said between howls.
"I'll go get the first aid kit" Chili said, disappearing into the house and returned a few minutes later.
"Socks bit Lily!" Bluey told her mother.
"Socks Heeler! Time out for five minutes!" Trixie told her youngest, looking at the Doodle family, "is she going to be okay?"
Klayton nodded, "she'll be fine."
Lily sat still as Chili applied first aid to her arm.
"Why don't you girls draw or color or something until dinner?" Chili suggested as Trixie took Socks inside for a time out.
"Okay. I would like that, Mrs. Heeler" Lily said, gently hugging Chili.
Chili chuckled as she returned the hug, "you can call me Chili, sweetie."
"Okay Chili sweetie" Lily said.
Bingo and Bluey squealed with laughter.
"Cheeky" Klayton said, hugging Lily, "you okay to play with Muffin, Bingo & Bluey until dinner?"
Lily nodded, "yes, dad."
After dinner & dessert were eaten, everyone got ready to go.
"Thank you for hosting us" Sophie said, holding a sleeping Lily in her arms.
"I think the girls had fun" Trixie said, holding a sleeping Muffin in her arms, "I'm so sorry that Socks bit Lily. Is she okay?"
"She's fine. Thanks for asking" Klayton said, holding Lily's stuffed owl.
"It was so nice to meet you Doodle family" Stripe and Bandit said in unison.
"Welcome to the neighborhood" Chili said.
"Thank you for having us" Klayton and Sophie said in unison, exiting the house with Stripe & Trixie.
PART TWO:
It was now time for school to start. Lily felt her heart pounding loudly in her chest as Klayton drove her to school.
"Either mom or I will pick you up afterwards, okay?" Klayton said.
"Okay" Lily said, looking out the window in the back seat.
It wasn't long until Klayton pulled into the drop off section of the school.
"I love you sweetheart" Klayton told his only child.
"I love you too dad" Lily said, getting out of the car, holding her backpack. She looked around for a familiar face and smiled when she saw Bluey.
"Hi Bluey!" Lily said, running up to her friend.
"Hi Lily! I'm so happy to see you!" Bluey said, wagging her tail, as did Lily.
Bluey and Lily walked up the steps to where Calypso's classroom was.
Calypso was there in the doorway, welcoming each student, "good morning Chloe. Good morning Mackenzie. Good morning Rusty" she greeted them before turning to Bluey and Lily, "good morning Bluey. Good morning Lily."
"Good morning Calypso" the girls greeted their teacher before heading into the room.
"You can put your backpack in the cubby next to mine" Bluey told Lily.
"Okay" Lily said, putting her backpack and lunch bucket in the cubby with her name on it 'LILY'.
"Everyone, before we start our day, we have a new student with us" Calypso said once everyone was in the classroom, "please make her feel welcome and special" she turned to Lily, "tell us a little bit about yourself - anything you wish to share. Please hold all questions until the end - Lily may answer them."
Lily headed for the Welcome Rug where everyone was gathered. She smiled at the students staring at her and cleared her throat,
"Hello I'm Lillian Fern Doodle, but you can call me Lily. My parents and I moved from Chicago, Illinois to Queensland over the summer because my parents got better jobs here. I'm an only child and I love singing, riding horses, ballet and going to the theater. My favorite color is purple and my favorite food is spaghetti" Lily said.
A black and white dog - a Border Collie - raised his hand.
"Yes?" Lily asked him.
"Where is Illinois?" He asked, pronouncing Illinois like 'Ill-noise' instead of 'Ill-annoy.'
"It's in the States" Lily answered, looking at Calypso, "do you have a map of the States?"
"Yes" Calypso said, getting off her chair, humming softly to herself as she went to get the map, "here you go."
Lily went to the map and found the state of Illinois, "that's where my parents and I are from."
Once everyone asked their questions, it was time for quiet play.
"Lily, come play with us!" Bluey said, smiling at her new friend.
"Okay" Lily said, walking over to where Bluey and some other dogs were, "oh hello."
"Everyone, this is Lily. Lily this is Mackenzie, Chloe, Honey, Rusty and Jack" Bluey said as she introduced her friends.
"We're gonna play Flower Shop. Wanna play?" Chloe asked.
"Sure - my mom actually runs a flower shop, so could I be the owner?" Lily asked.
"Sure. We can be the employees and customers" Chloe said.
"Yay!" Everyone said in unison.
Everything was going great until lunch time. Lily ended up eating by herself, since there wasn't space for her at any of the three tables.
"Lily, come sit with us!" Three boys called The Terriers said in unison.
"Um okay" Lily said, getting up from her table and went to sit with the Terriers. She opened her lunch and started to take a bite of her sandwich when one of the Terriers twitched his nose, "what?"
"What kind of sandwich is that?" He asked.
"Tuna Fish - it's my favorite" Lily said, "is there a problem?"
"Yes - we don't like Tuna Fish!" The Terriers said in unison.
Lily sighed and went back to her original table, looking over at Bluey and her friends. She picked at her sandwich as a pink poodle came over, "hello."
"Hi - we can make room for you at our table if you want to eat with us" the poodle said, "I'm Coco."
"Lily" Lily said, going over to where Bluey was eating with a mix of boy and girl dogs, "hi Bluey."
"Hi Lily! You can sit next to me" Bluey said, making room for her new friend.
Lily smiled as she sat next to Bluey, "you're going to have to introduce yourselves to me. I already know Bluey, but I don't know the others."
"I'll tell you who they are" Bluey said, pointing to each dog in turn, "Chloe, Honey, Mackenzie, Rusty, Jack, Coco, Snickers, Indy, Winnie and Judo."
"Hi!" Everyone said kindly as they ate their lunches.
After lunch, everyone went outside, since it was a nice day.
"Today, I want you all to play a game that involves everyone" Calypso told her students as she sat in a chair.
"Does Hide and Seek count?" Lily asked.
"Hide and Seek is perfect" Calypso said, smiling.
Once outside time was over, everyone went inside to do crafts, then have a story.
"I want everyone to take a little nap before our next activity" Calypso said, watching the students get a sleeping mat, "we'll nap for ten minutes, then do our activity."
"Okay" the students said in unison.
Lily grabbed a mat and laid near Coco and Juno in the Quiet Play area.
After the ten minute rest, Calypso had everyone go outside again for a nature hike.
Lily gasped as she saw Major Tom - the kind horse that lived next door, "hello horsey friend!"
"Hello!" Major Tom said in a kind voice, whinnying when he realized he scared Lily, "I'm a friendly talking horse."
"He's telling the truth" Bluey said as she walked near Lily.
Lily chuckled as she went on the walk with Calypso and the class, breathing in deeply the quiet air and let it out gently.
When they got back to the classroom, it was time to go.
The kids went outside with their bags to wait for their parents.
One by one, everyone left, leaving only Jack, Winnie and Lily remaining.
"Everything okay?" Calypso called down to the kids.
"Yeah" the three of them responded.
A short while later, Lily saw the car her family had pull up.
"Bye Calypso! Bye Winnie! Bye Jack!" Lily called to her friends as she entered the car.
"Bye Lily!" Winnie, Jack and Calypso called back.
Lily smiled as she got in the car, getting in her booster seat.
"Hello love" Sophie greeted Lily.
"Hi mom" Lily said, looking out the window.
"How was your first day of school?" Sophie asked as she drove home.
"It was good - I made a lot of new friends. Bluey is in my class" Lily said, smiling.
"That's good. Dad's working late, so you and I got invited over to Bluey's house for dinner. Is that okay?" Sophie asked.
"Yeah" Lily said, looking out the window, "mom, did you make any friends today?"
"I did" Sophie said, smiling.
Lily continued looking out the window, feeling herself fall asleep.
That night, Lily and Sophie went to the Heeler's for dinner.
Bluey hugged Lily as soon as she saw her, "I'm so happy to see you!"
"You too!" Lily said, feeling her tail wag.
While Chili, Sophie and Bandit worked together on dinner, Lily played with Bluey and Bingo.
"Sit with us at dinner!" Bingo said once dinner was ready.
"You girls have your own table" Bandit said, indicating to a small table near the adult table.
Bingo and Bluey squealed as the two of them, along with Lily, walked to the small table.
"After dinner, can we play Restaurant?" Bluey asked her mom.
"After dinner, you girls will have a bath, then bed - it's a school night" Chili said.
"When can Lily stay the night?" Bingo asked.
"Actually, I wanted to ask you something" Sophie said, "Klayton and I have something going on this weekend - Klayton's work is having a dinner on Saturday night. Would it be all right if Lily stayed the night?"
"That's fine with me. What about you, Bandit?" Chili asked.
Bandit nodded, "that's fine."
The girls squealed happily and ate their dinners.
Saturday came and Sophie was helping Lily pack her overnight bag.
"Do you have everything?" Sophie asked.
Lily nodded, "I do, mom."
"Do you want me to stay? You can I can do something together" Sophie said.
Lily shook her head, "I'll be fine, mom. I'll be with Bluey and Bingo."
Sophie hugged her daughter, "good."
The two of them walked over to the Heeler house and Lily rang the doorbell.
Bandit answered with Bluey on his back, "welcome Lily! Are you ready to have some fun?" He asked in a monotone voice, like a robot.
Lily giggled and responded in a monotone, "yes, I am. This is going to be fun."
Bluey burst out laughing.
Bandit got Bluey off his back, "why don't you show Lily where she's staying while I go over things with Lily's mum?"
"Okay dad" Bluey said, taking Lily's hand and led her up the stairs, "this is Bingo and my room and across the hall is the guest room."
Lily smiled and put her bag in the guest room, putting Athena on the bed.
"Who's that?" Bluey asked.
"That's Athena - she's my stuffed owl" Lily said as the two of them exited the guest room and walked back down the stairs.
"Lily, I'm leaving soon, honey" Sophie said.
"Okay mommy" Lily said, going over and hugged Sophie, "have fun. Give daddy a hug for me. I love you."
"I love you too. We'll see you tomorrow. Have fun and make sure to thank the Heeler family" Sophie said, holding her arms out for a hug.
Lily hugged Sophie and said goodbye to her.
"We're ordering pizza for dinner. Is that okay?" Chili asked, chopping up some fruit and vegetables.
Lily nodded, smiling, "is there anything I can do, Mrs. Heeler?"
"No, sweetie. Why don't you go play with Bluey and Bingo? I'll let you know when the pizza's here" Chili suggested.
"Okay" Lily said, going to find Bluey and Bingo. The two of them were playing with Bandit.
"Hey Lily. Come play with us!" Bluey said.
Lily smiled, "okay. What are you playing?"
"We're playing Octopus" Bingo said, "dad's the octopus and we're fishes. We need to get the treasure without being touched."
Lily smiled and stood between Bingo and Bluey.
"Ready girls?" Bandit asked, getting in position behind the couch.
"Ready!" The three girls said in unison.
"Then go!" Bandit said.
Bluey, Bingo and Lily giggled and avoided Bandit's 'tentacles'. Lily ended up getting the treasure and moved her body to not be touched by Bandit.
They played two more games of Octopus before Chili said that the pizza had arrived.
Lily sat with Bingo, Bandit, Chili and Bluey at the table.
"Lily, if you could be any dinosaur, what kind of dinosaur would you be?" Bingo asked.
Lily blew on her pizza slice and chewed before answering, "I would be a brontosaurus - they're my favorite."
Bluey smiled, "I would be a T-rex" she looked at Chili, "mum, after dinner, can we play Dinosaur?"
"I was actually thinking after dinner, we would watch a movie here" Chili said.
"What movie?" Lily asked.
"Blanket Fort: The Movie" Bandit said, "it's a comedy."
"That sounds nice" Lily said, smiling.
"Lily, I made brownies. Would you like one?" Chili asked after the food and dishes were put away.
"Yes please" Lily said, smiling.
The five of them got comfortable on the couch and watched the movie.
After the movie, Bingo, Bluey and Lily went to brush their teeth and get ready for bed.
Chili and Bandit came to say good night to Lily once Bluey and Bingo were asleep.
"Good night, Lily" Bandit said, making sure she was tucked in.
"Good night, Mr. Heeler. Good night, Mrs. Heeler" Lily said, smiling as the two of them hugged her.
The next day after breakfast, Klayton came to get Lily.
"Thank you for everything" Klayton told his neighbors.
"You're welcome. Lily is a gem" Bandit said.
Lily blushed slightly. She hugged the Heeler family before leaving with her dad.
PART THREE:
"Everyone, go play with your Playtime Pals" Calypso told the class a week later.
Lily looked for her Playtime Pal - a girl named Sally.
Sally smiled at Lily, "Lil belle!"
"Sally sunshine!" Lily said, hugging her Playtime Pal, "what are we playing today?"
"Want to play Flower Shop?" Sally asked.
Lily nodded, "let's see if Bluey, Mia, Mackenzie, Captain, Coco and Sunny want to play, too."
"Okay. You go see if they want to play and I'll set up the flower shop" Sally said.
"Okay" Lily said, going to find the others, "we're going to play Flower Shop. Do you guys want to play?"
"Yeah!" Mia, Bluey, Mackenzie, Captain, Coco and Sunny said.
"Great" Lily said, leading the way to where Sally was setting up the flower shop.
"Who wants to do what?" Sally asked.
"I think since this was Lily and Sally's idea, they should be the owners" Mia said.
"Okay. The rest of us will be customers" Coco said, smiling at Captain and Mackenzie, "since you're the only boys, you'll have to be someone's husband and boyfriend."
The girls giggled as Captain and Mackenzie blushed.
"I'll be Sunny's husband" Captain said.
"I'm your sister" Sunny said, "that'd be gross!"
"I'll be your husband, Sunny" Mackenzie said.
"Okay" Sunny said, looking at Captain, "how about you're Coco's boyfriend."
"Okay" Captain said.
"We're extremely rich and we're getting flowers for a dress I'm making" Coco told Captain.
"Um okay" Captain said.
Lily looked at Mia and Bluey, "what do you two want to do or be?"
"Can we be your employees?" Mia asked.
"Sure" Sally said, looking at Lily, "that's okay, right?"
Lily nodded, "that's fine."
They played for a while before Calypso said it was time for the Playtime Pals to leave.
The kids hugged their Playtime Pals and said their goodbyes.
"Sit on the Welcome Rug for a story and song" Calypso told her students as they entered the room.
The children sat on the rug in a semi circle.
"Lily, sit with me!" Honey said, patting the spot next to her.
"Okay" Lily said, sitting next to Honey.
Calypso had read the story and now it was time for a song.
"Come, sing a song with me
Come, sing a song with me
Come, sing a song with me
That I might know your mind
And I'll bring you hope
When hope is hard to find
And I'll bring a song of love
And a rose in the wintertime" Calypso sang, smiling as some of the children joined in.
"Can I sing the next part?" Lily asked.
"Of course" Calypso said, smiling at Lily.
"Come, walk in rain with me
Come, walk in rain with me
Come walk in rain with me
That I might know your mind
And I'll bring you hope
When hope is hard to find
And I'll bring a song of love
And a rose in the winter time" Lily sang.
Calypso and the children applauded once Lily was done singing.
"We have some birthdays coming up, so please make sure to invite all your classmates" Calypso said as the children gathered their things.
Lily's birthday was on Halloween, so she was looking forward to that.
"Calypso, I have a question" Lily said.
"What's up, Lily?" Calypso asked.
"Since my birthday is on Halloween, am I allowed to wear a costume to school?" Lily asked.
"Of course, only if it's not too scary" Calypso answered, smiling, "have a good day, Lily."
"You too" Lily said, exiting the school and went to where the cars were for pick up.
Lily played with Jack until the two of them got picked up.
"Lily, my birthday is this weekend, I hope you'll come" Jack said as Lily got into her car.
"I hope so" Lily said, smiling.
Turned out, Lily wasn't able to go to any birthday parties that weekend - she got really sick and had to stay in bed.
Klayton and Sophie worked from home so they could keep an eye on Lily and get her anything she needed.
By Monday, Lily wasn't getting any better and went to the hospital.
It turned out, Lily had appendicitis and needed her appendix out.
Bluey and her family came to visit Lily in the hospital.
"I brought you this" Bluey told Lily, handing her a homemade card and a piece of cake and a goodie bag, "this is from Jack's birthday."
"Thanks" Lily said hoarsely.
"This is from me" Bingo said, handing Lily a horse stuffed animal, "her name is Blossom."
"Thank you, Bingo" Lily said, feeling her eyes get heavy. She fell asleep, cuddling Blossom.
"We should let Lily rest" Bandit said.
"When can she come home?" Chili asked Sophie.
"Tomorrow" Sophie said softly.
"If you need anything, get in touch with us" Bandit said.
"Dad, can we stay and play with Lily?" Bingo asked.
"Not right now - she needs a lot of sleep. She just had major surgery" Bandit said.
"When can we play with Lily and when is she coming back to school?" Bluey asked.
"Probably not for a few days" Chili said. She hugged both Klayton and Sophie before gently touching Lily's shoulder, "feel better soon, sweetheart."
Two weeks later, Lily was allowed to go back to school, but was to take it easy.
"Lily!" All her classmates greeted her as Lily came into the classroom.
"Hi" Lily said, "please be careful hugging me - I'm still not to my old self yet."
The students nodded and helped Lily sit down in a comfortable chair.
It was now Halloween - Lily's favorite holiday. The week before, Lily and her parents went to the costume shop to find the perfect costume.
"Queensland isn't as cold as Chicago, so there's more options" Sophie said, "what do you want to be for Halloween and what do you want to do for your birthday?"
"I want to be a ballerina and I want to have the kids in my class over for a big Halloween party" Lily said.
"We can make that happen" Klayton said, smiling.
An hour later, the three of them exited the Halloween store and went to the Party Supply store to get supplies.
At school the following day, Lily handed out birthday invitations to all her classmates and Calypso.
"Lily, I didn't know your birthday was on Halloween" Calypso said.
Lily smiled, "it's also my favorite holiday."
"Are you dressing up?" Coco asked as Lily handed her an invitation.
Lily nodded, "of course I am. You are also invited to dress up, if you want."
Coco smiled and turned back to her game as Lily walked off.
The day of Lily's birthday arrived. It was a Saturday and a beautiful day.
Bluey, Bingo, Bandit and Chili came over to help decorate and get everything ready.
"What are you being for Halloween?" Bingo asked Lily.
"A ballerina. What about you two?" Lily asked.
"A bumblebee / the letter B" Bingo and Bluey said in unison.
Lily giggled, "I can't wait to see your costumes later."
Outside, the adults were setting up the games - Bob for Apples, Coffin Walk, Spider Web toss, Musical chairs and Pin the Hat on the Witch.
When it got dark, the kids started arriving in twos and threes.
Lily smiled as she saw all her friends arriving. She was in a purple ballerina outfit and instead of ballet slippers, she was in purple rain boots.
Since Indy couldn't have most of the goodies that were out, Sophie made sure there were organic things out, along with cut up fruits and veggies.
Some games were played before Lily wanted to have cake and open presents before going Trick or Treating.
After Trick or Treating, everyone went to their own houses, thanking Lily for inviting them to her birthday and they would see her at school on Monday.
"Before you go to bed, birthday girl. We have a surprise for you" Sophie said, handing Lily a picture.
"What is that?" Lily asked, squinting at the black and white picture.
"That's your sibling - you're going to be a big sister in about nine months" Klayton said.
Lily squealed and hugged her parents, "this is the best birthday present ever!"
PART FOUR:
Lily was now a big sister to a little sister - Belle Louise Doodle.
Belle was a sweet little pup - she was black like Klayton and had blue eyes, like Sophie, whereas Lily had brown eyes like her dad.
"She's so beautiful" Lily said as she held her little sister.
"She really is" Klayton said, rubbing a finger up and down Belle's arm, "we should let her and mom rest. They'll be home tomorrow."
Lily nodded and kissed Belle's forehead, "see you tomorrow Belle. I love you."
It wasn't until Belle was a year and Lily was seven that tragedy struck - their parents were coming home from a work party at Klayton's work that they hit a kangaroo and were killed instantly, along with the kangaroo.
The girls were put into the foster system, since they didn't have any living family - both their parents were only children and they didn't have any living grandparents.
Lily and Belle hugged the Heelers and their classmates after the funeral held for their parents, both girls crying loudly.
"Mum, why can't Lily and Belle become our sisters?" Bingo asked.
"We don't have the space, hun" Chili said as she drove out of the graveyard.
"Actually, we do. We can turn the spare room into a bedroom and I can turn my office into another bedroom" Bandit said.
"So, can they become our sisters?" Bluey asked, her tail wagging happily.
"There's a lot of paperwork involved" Chili said, watching the girls be placed in a white van.
"What will happen to their house?" Bingo inquired.
"It'll be put up for sale and their things auctioned off or donated" Bandit said.
"I really, really, really, really, really, really want them to be our sisters" Bluey said, "Lily is already like a sister to me."
"I don't want them to be abated" Bingo said, trying to say 'separated'.
Chili and Bandit chuckled as they drove off.
"Girls, go play while your mum and I talk" Bandit said.
"Can we see Lily and Belle?" Bingo asked.
"No, sweetie - they're in a Foster House" Chili said.
"Okay" Bluey said, going to her room, hearing Bingo follow her, "let's draw."
The girls drew in their room while Chili and Bandit chatted.
"It's so awful what happened to the girls' parents" Chili said as she sipped her tea.
Bandit nodded, putting a hand on her arm, "sweetie, we always talked about having more kids when the girls were older. We never did talk about adoption. Those sweet girls will be separated in Foster Care."
Chili nodded, "I could talk to Brandy - my sister. She told me that the last time she was at the doctor, he told her she couldn't have kids. If Brandy adopted them, they could still be in the family."
Bandit smiled a tiny bit, "they would still be in the family and Brandy does love the girls."
"I'll give her a call tomorrow while the girls are in school" Chili said, resting her head on Bandit's shoulder, closing her eyes as he kissed her cheek.
The following morning, Bandit took the girls to school while Chili called Brandy.
"Hello?" Brandy answered on the third ring.
"Hey Brandy - it's Chili. How are you?" Chili asked.
"I'm fine. You?" Brandy asked.
"I'm okay - I actually have a favor to ask you" Chili said.
"Anything for you. What's up?" Brandy asked.
Chili explained Lily and Belle's situation, hoping Brandy would agree to adopt them.
"I'll foster them and if it works out, I would love to adopt them" Brandy said, "I'll get myself signed up to be a foster parent."
Chili felt tears in her eyes, "Brandy, this means the world to me. Thank you."
"You're welcome, sis. I'll call the house they're at and see if I can meet them" Brandy said.
Chili wiped a tear away, "you'll love them, Brandy - I promise."
Two years later
Brandy, Belle, Lily, Chili, Bandit, Stripe, Trixie, Radley & Frisky sat in a courtroom for the adoption of Belle and Lily to Brandy Cattle.
The judge looked over her glasses at the large group gathered for the adoption hearing, "would Brandy Cattle please rise?"
Brandy stood, feeling extremely nervous.
"You've fostered Belle and Lily for a year, correct?" The judge asked.
Brandy nodded, "I have Your Honor."
"Have they caused you any problems?" The judge asked.
"No, Your Honor - they've been complete angels" Brandy said honestly.
The judge continued asking Brandy and her family questions about Lily and Belle, the care that Brandy provided for them, among other questions.
The judge smiled as the hearing concluded, "Brandy Cattle, it is my great honor to say that this adoption has been approved. Congratulations - you are now the guardian of Belle Louise and Lillian Fern Cattle, formally Doodle."
Brandy felt tears stream down her cheeks as her family hugged her and the girls. She, Belle and Lily got their picture taken with the foster care worker, along with their family.
"Luckily, I don't live far from Chili, so you can see Bluey as much as you want, Lily" Brandy told Lily as they exited the courtroom.
Lily had tears streaming down her cheeks as she held Belle's hand.
Brandy saw Lily crying, "sweetheart, what's wrong?"
"I'm so happy to have a mom again. You've been so kind to us" Lily said, hugging Brandy.
Brandy smiled and hugged both Lily and Belle.
"Can we get ice cream?" Belle asked as Brandy got her in her car seat as Lily got into her car seat.
"Of course, but don't eat too much - there's a party at Bluey's house and everyone will be there" Brandy said.
"I won't - mama" Belle said, kissing Brandy's cheek.
Brandy drove to the ice cream parlor, smiling at the girls good behavior.
When the girls were done with their ice creams, Brandy drove to Chili's house.
After the party, Brandy and the girls walked to the house that Lily's parents had bought when they first moved to Australia.
Lily felt tears in her eyes, "we're living here?" She asked.
Brandy nodded, "it didn't seem right to move you away from your school and friends, so I bought the house."
Lily and Belle hugged Brandy. Brandy smiled and hugged the girls close.
"I love you girls" Brandy said as she tucked them into bed that night.
"We love you too, mommy" the girls said in unison.
After the girls were asleep, Brandy went to do laundry, loving her new life with her new family.
