Chapter 1 of Date Game Night
Setting 1 The School
A car pulled up to the school loaded with kids that we know and love. Dib and Gaz were being taken to school by their neighbor Mrs. Hethcoat. She was also taking her kids to school. Will, Paige and Allee were in the car, Allee safe in her car seat.
-Dib- Thanks for taking Gaz and I to school today.
-June Hethcoat- Oh it is no trouble at all, Dib. It is the least we could do since your trip to the science camp didn't help to conform you.
-Dib- What are you talking about I…
-Will- What Dib meant was the camp that Jason's dad ran had so little effect on me that I can't even remember it.
-Dib- Oh right, that stupid, extremely real camp that tried to tell me that the paranormal was not real. Well news flash vampires, werewolves, aliens, and other paranormal things are real. And I will always believe in them and I will combat them to save the earth since no one else will and… (Just then Gaz put her seat down on top of Dib she was in the front seat.) Hey Gaz what was that for?
-Gaz- To shut you up Dib. I am trying to play my game and your mouth is more distracting than Mr. Elliot. Which is saying a lot. I am going inside. (She left the car.)
-Will- Yeah, we had better get to class before Mrs. Bitters notices we're late.
-Dib- Fine but I stand by my statement. (He got out of the car.)
-June- Oh that poor boy. Will before you go here is an extra inhaler for you. (She gave him the inhaler.) And Paige I got some vegetable seeds for your garden.
-Paige- But we can't plant in the fall.
-June- That is what I told your father, but he wants to make a formula that will help plants grow in all kinds of weather. I think your green thumb has rubbed off on him. This morning he told me a very bad dad joke. Do you want to hear it?
-Paige- What?
-June- He said "What kind of plant do you always have to watch out for?"
-Paige- What kind?
-June- An ambush.
-Will- Oh great, where does he get these from a book?
-June- Not sure, but we will probably hear more before the year is up. Just know that you and your father will be planting either tonight or tomorrow night.
-Paige- Well I look forward to it. Bye mom and Allee.
-Will- Yeah, drive safe. (They got out of the car.)
-Paige- Dib, what is your problem?
-Dib- What? Like I was not going to tell the truth about what is out there.
-Paige- You know what. You still don't trust Jason, do you?
-Dib- Well I… uh…
-Will- Dib Jason helped us get the girls and Thistle back after you messed up.
-Dib- I know but he is still a vampire that we know nothing about. I will be suspicious until further notice because that is what a true paranormal investigator does. And-
-Jason- Hey Paige.
-Paige- Oh hey Jason. (She hugged him.) Glad to see you.
-Jason- You as well what are we talking about?
-Paige- Nothing important Dib is just being a pain.
-Jason- Oh as always. Well, on another note- Do either of you know what Zim and Amethyst are doing standing at the bus stop?
-Dib- Good question. One I plan to find out the answer to.
-Will- Oh no, here we go again. (They walked over to the bus stop.)
-Paige- Hey Amethyst, what's up?
-Amethyst- Well, we are waiting for Julie, Shadow, and Rachel.
-Zim- Yes yes Julie told us this morning that she wanted to try a bus ride. Zim told her of the horrors that the vile machine put me and Amethyst through but she was too brave to listen to Zim. Although that is one of the things Zim loves about her. We still want to make sure she and the siblings don't go crazy after their ride.
-Dib- The bus does not make people go crazy- Gretchen rides the bus, but so does Keef… hmm. On second thought, Julie and the others might have made a mistake.
-June- Alright Allee it is time to go home and… (Allee was gone and her seatbelt was unbuckled.) Oh no Allee where did she go? (She saw her daughter running off.) Oh no I curse the day my 2 year old learned to run. Why did I have to have the fastest baby alive? (She got out of the car and ran after her baby.) No Allee, don't run from Mommy! You will get hurt. (She grabbed her daughter just when the bus was coming and it was about to run over them both.)
-Rachel- (She smelled something.) What is that- oh no. Driver! I think someone is in front of the bus beast. You have to stop it!
-Bus driver Linda- I told you already kid! It is a machine, it has no heart, there is nothing to tame and there is no one there.
-Rachel- There is and if you wont stop it then I will. (She fired an arrow in the rough of the bus and the bus lady hit the brakes just in time.)
-Linda- Hey. you can't hit my bus- Do you think the school has anime nerd insurance?! It is the cosplay incident of 88 all over again. Why would you even bring an arrow set to school you…
-June- Hey! You almost hit my baby- Who taught you how to drive.
-Linda- (She came out of the bus.) What?! You were in the street?
-June- Yes- my baby just learned how to run and you almost hit her.
-Allee- Bad lady.
-Linda- Sorry ma'am, I did not see you. I guess the kid with the arrow was right.
-June- What kid?
-Linda- One of the kids said there was someone in the road. She has been a problem the whole drive since this is her first time on a bus. She kept asking questions. Like 'what does that button do. How do you control this beast? How does it find it's way?' So I did not pay attention. Till she shot an arrow in the rough then I stopped the bus just in time to not hit you two.
-June- Well I owe that girl but I have to get home before anything else happens so goodbye. (She walked away.)
-Allee- Brother.
-June- Oh yes your brother and sister are over there at the stop. Hmm, what are they waiting for? (She got on the sidewalk and watched. The bus driver pulled up to the stop and opened the door.)
-Zim- (Julie just got out.) So how was the trip are you ok?
-Julie- It was interesting.
-Shadow- That is one way of describing it. I would like to say it was annoying. If I hear that annoying wheels on the bus song one more time I am going to lose it.
-Amethyst- Tried to warn you.
-Shadow- I know but it didn't work.
-Gretchen- I don't think the trip was that bad. Meef and Keef were having fun.
-Julie- Who do you think started the song…
-Amethyst- Well if Meef is on that bus then that is my que to run to class. Come on Paige Jason and Shadow we have to get out of here. (They ran off.)
-Paige- Coming.
-Keef- Hey everybody, that bus ride is so much fun. Oh Zim you are here waiting on your girlfriend that is so nice.
-Zim- What, how did you know that?
-Keef- I see the way you two look at eachother and love is so wonderful.
-Meef- (He came out.) Speaking of love. Qhere is Amethyst, Zim?
-Dib- She ran inside to class.
-Meef- Thank you Dib. You're the best. (He ran after Amethyst.)
-Zim- Dib-stink why did you do that?
-Dib- What I was just telling Meef the truth.
-Zim- In that case here is some karma for you. (He sprayed Dib with an ink pin.)
-Dib- Ah Zim how dare you… I am going to get you.
-Zim- Haha not likely vile earth beast. (He grabbed Julie's hand and they ran to class.)
-Gretchen- Oh Dib, don't worry I am sure your dad can help you get it off with one of his experiments.
-Dib- Let's hope so this is one of my favorite shirts. Come on Gretchen lets go inside before we are late.
-Keef- Right I don't like to see Mrs. Bitters mad, she is scary enough when she is neutral. (He ran inside.)
-Dib- You coming, Will?
-Will- Oh no, I'm waiting for Rachel.
-Gretchen- Ok, see you in class.
-Linda- Next time you sense something, just pull the emergency brake and don't go poking holes in my bus.
-Rachel- Ok sorry ma'am. (She got off the bus.)
-Will- Hey Rachel, what was that about?
-Rachel- Oh Will it is so good to see you. (She hugged him.)
-Will- You as well. So how was your first bus ride? (He said blushing.)
-Rachel- It was interesting riding the bus beast. I asked the driver how she controls it and she did not like my questions and told me to be quiet more than once. Then I smelled someone in front of the bus. She would not stop it so I shot it with my arrow.
-Will- You did what? Rachel first of all the bus is like a bigger version of a car. (He said pointing at a car.) Or like a spaceship that does not fly it is not alive.
-Rachel- Oh I guess I am still getting used to this place are you mad at me?
-Will- No from what you told me it sounds like you saved someone.
-Rachel- I did. I heard the bus lady talking to the person. She said her baby ran off and the bus almost hit them both.
-Will- See? My girlfriend is a hero.
-Rachel- Oh Will stop it you are making me blush.
-Will- Well I am about to do more than that. (He kissed her on the cheek.)
-Rachel- Oh thank you Will. Come on we had better go inside before we are late.
-June- Huh my son has a girlfriend and he did not tell me.
-Allee- Uh-oh he is trouble.
-June- You're right Allee. Your brother William Lassie Hethcoat has some splaining to do when he gets home.
Setting 2 Mrs. Bitters' classroom
All of the students were in their seats, none of them were late.
-Mrs. Bitters- Alright, class the school board has assigned a new project about ancestry. In other words they want you to write a report about where you come from. When I point to you tell me where your family is from. Dib!
-Dib- Well my family is hispanic on my dad's side. I don't know where my mom was from because my dad does not like to talk about her since she is dead and…
-Mrs. Bitters- Dib that is enough. So you will need to write a report about Mexico and bring something from home that ties to your ancestry.
-Dib- So I could bring like a sombrero?
-Mrs. Bitters- Yes whatever that will work. (She pointed to Gretchen.) Gretchen!
-Gretchen- My family is from London. I could bring my mom's statue of the London tower. We got it as a souvenir when we visited my Grandparents last year.
-Mrs. Bitters- Rachel and Julie you two are cousins and…
-Julie- Our family is from Japan. So I could bring a kimono.
-Rachel- I could bring a fan from Japan.
-Mrs. Bitters- That is good. Zim you're next.
-Zim- Well ah me and Amethyst are from ah…
-Dib- This should be good.
-Zim- Hawaii! Yes, we are Hawaian. So I could bring a hula outfit or something.
-Dib- Wait, he was actually prepared for that?
-Zim- Of course Zim was Dib-Stink for Zim is normal.
-Tak- so you say. As for me Mrs. Bitters, I come from France.
-Keef- But your assent is…(Tak through a book at Keef.)
-Tak- Like I said, France. Where we play rough with our revolutions.
-Mrs. Bitters- Fine bring something French then. And the delinquent boy you are next. (She pointed at Will.)
-Will- Ok my name is William and you don't always have to call me a delinquent…
-Mrs. Bitters- Silence I don't want your excuse, the school board wants to know where you are from.
-Will- Ok my dad is from Ireland and my mom is from Scotland. In fact they met while my dad was trying to disprove the rumors about the loch ness monster. My dad thinks it is not real but I disagree. I believe in Nessie.
-Dib- Wait you do?
-Will- Yep she could be a dinosaur that survived all these years.
-Mrs. Bitters- We don't care about that. What would you bring to represent your heritage?
-Will- Well I guess I could bring my dad's blarney stone souvenir when he went to go kiss it. He was showing my mom his homeland for their honeymoon and he wanted good luck. As for my Scottish heritage my mom has a set of bagpipes and a kilt. I could bring both.
-Mrs. Bitters- Good and if they fit you then you will wear them.
-Will- Do what?
-Mrs. Bitters- You heard me now let's move on to the next child. (She called on the next kid.)
-Rachel- Will what is a kilt?
-Will- It is like a skirt and my mom made me one for a picture. It is embarrassing but my grandma wanted me to embrace my heritage. Mom made it and took the pictures. I had to hold the bagpipes in the photo. They were a little heavy.
-Rachel- Can you… play this instrument?
-Will- Not really mom can but me and Paige never had a knack for it.
-Mrs. Bitters- Silence you two we have alot of work to do.
-Will and Rachel- Yes sorry Mrs. Bitters. (The class continued.)
Setting 3 school pick up
Will and Paige were waiting to be picked up by their mom like usual. Then they saw their car but were curious as to why their dad was picking them up. They got in and their dad drove off.
-Will-Hey dad, where's mom?
-Professor Hethcoat- She is very disappointed in you, William. She asked me to pick you both up and she wants to talk to you when you get home.
-Will- What did I do?
-Professor Hethcoat- You know full well what you did, William. Now I don't want to talk to you right now because I am also very disappointed in you.
Setting 4 the Heathcote house
Will and Paige went into their house with their dad.
-Professor Hethcoat- She's in the living room waiting for you, William.
-Will- (He went into the living room to find his mom sitting in the chair, petting Meredith.) Hi mom whatever I did I'm sorry-
-June- Sit down, William Lassie Heathcoat. (He did as he was told.) Today your sister got loose from her car seat again. I had to chase after her. We almost got run over by the bus. But according to the bus driver, a girl saved us by shooting the roof with an arrow. Of course I wanted to head home after that heart stopping experience right away, but Allee saw you and Paige at the bus stop. At least two of my children are always honest. I say this because I stopped and listened to your whole conversation with your friends and your girlfriend Rachel. I believe that was her name. William, why didn't you tell me you had a girlfriend? Are you embarrassed by us? Did you think that she would not like your father and I? Where did you even meet her?
-Will- No Mom! It is nothing like that. I met Rachel at the science camp. She and her family moved here from Japan. They aren't used to our customs and I was going to tell you about her. I just didn't know when I should do it. Haha…
-June- Well I have a better idea. Since Allee and I owe her our lives. I want you to invite her to dinner tomorrow night.
-Will- But tomorrow night is family game night.
-June- Exactly! She will meet the whole family and if she wants to, she can bring her family too.
-Will- But they have food allergies.
-June- William I am a mother of three, an accountant to many and very detail oriented. You think I can't work around that? What foods are preferable for them?
-Will- Fish and vegetables and they can eat pastries. But no fruit or pork meat.
-Juna- Interesting, you're dismissed to your room until dinner.
-Will- But…
-June- No butts, except the one that is going to your room. (Will ran to his room only to find Paige sitting on his bed waiting for him. Allee is there too.)
-Paige- Well, what did Mom want?
-Will- Ask Allee, she knows all about it.
-Allee- Brother in trouble.
-Paige- I need more details than that.
-Will- Rachel saved a woman and a baby from getting run over by the bus today by stabbing the roof of the bus with her arrow. Guess who that baby and woman were.
-Paige- Oh no.
-Allee- Me run fast.
-Will- Oh yes and because of that Mom stopped and heard everything that we said until we went into the school. She knows that Rachel is my girlfriend, Paige.
-Paige- And that's a problem because? I don't see why it's such a big deal.
-Will- It's not a big deal Paige, it is a very big deal. (He said sitting down and putting his face in his hands.)
-Paige- It really isn't. I told you to tell Mom about Rachel weeks ago.
-Will- I know but what if mom and dad find out what she is? You're lucky Paige, your boyfriend is half human, AND from earth! He knows what to expect- mostly. I love Rachel, but if her hat falls off?! Mom and dad will see her ears and there will be no getting around that. What if they think she's a catgirl, like from the shows? Or some sort of Bigfeet-hybrid, like from Dib's shows- OH GOD- I don't want my girlfriend to be experimented on- Oh and that'd just be the start, once they get their hands on her, they'll want to check on Shadow, then Julie- or any of our friends! No one is safe Paige! No one is safe! (He hyperventilated. Had to use his inhaler.)
-Paige- Yeah I get it…
-Will- No you don't! Mom wants me to invite Rachel and her family to family game night, tomorrow night.
-Paige- What?!
-Will- Yes! We are creeping closer and closer to the elephant's foot. Thankfully, I told Mom about their allergies, but that won't keep their secret from getting out.
-Paige- Don't worry, Will Julie is a trained soldier. She'll keep their secret safe. And Rachel and Shadow know how to behave. Everything will turn out fine, you'll see.
-Allee- (She hugged her brother.) I sorry, Will.
-Will- It is not your fault, Allee. Paige is right. I should've told our parents about Rachel a long time ago. Well, I'll tell Rachel about the invite tomorrow at lunch.
