Ch 17 Getting to the Bottom of Things

"Mom!" Kion cried out, his amber eyes wide with shock as he saw his mother standing there. "H...how long have you been there?" Kion asked, afraid of what Nala had heard him and Beshte discussing.

"I just got here," Nala said. "And I heard you boys discussing Scar. I think we need to talk my sweet Kion."

"Yeah I think I'm gonna catch up with Fuli, Bunga and Ono," Beshte said. "But we defiantly need to talk later Kion."

"For sure," Kion said with a nod. Beshte nodded back and without another word he was gone, giving Nala a smile as he left. Nala smiled back at the young hippo before turning her attention to her son.

"Come Kion," Nala said, picking her youngest son up and carrying him to the top of Pride Rock. Once they were up there Nala gently put Kion down. "Kion," the Queen began. "As I said before we need to talk."

"Mom I..." Kion began. But he was silenced by Nala putting her paw up.

"Please Kion let me speak," Nala said. Kion was silent so Nala continued. "Honey I know you're confused about Scar and want to know more about him. But you and your siblings were young and your father and I weren't sure if you'd be able to understand at such a young age. But now that you're six months old I feel you're ready to hear the truth." But before Nala could continue Simba appeared with Kiara and Kopa right behind him.

"Oh sorry," the golden King said when he realized that Nala and Kion were in the middle of a talk. "I didn't realize you two were up here. We'll leave you two alone." With that Simba began to leave.

"No wait Simba!" Nala cried out, causing Simba to stop and look at her. "I'm actually glad you all are here. I want Kopa and Kiara to hear what I'm about to say." Kopa and Kiara exchanged confused looks but neither cub said anything as they went to sit beside their brother.

"What's this about Nala?" Simba asked, clearly confused.

"Its about Scar," Nala replied. "Kion's been very curious about him and I have a feeling he's been told false information."

"Is this true Kion?" Simba asked, looking at his youngest son.

"I don't know," Kion said softly, shaking his head. "I mean I have been curious about Scar and all that. But I'm not sure if the information I've been told is false or not."

"Kion who told you this information?" Simba asked. Kion said nothing. He just merely stared at the ground. "Kion," Simba tried again. "I asked you a question. Who have you been talking to about Scar?" But still Kion said nothing. "Kion answer me," Simba said sternly.

"I...I can't tell you," Kion whispered. "Y...you'll get mad at me."

"Son I can assure you that I'll get even more angry if you don't tell me," Simba said, making sure he didn't raise his voice. Then it dawned on the King who Kion might have been talking too. "Kion," Simba said gently. "Have you been talking with Scar?" Kion's eyes went wide but he said nothing. Instead he slowly nodded his head.

"Boy that was pretty dumb there Kion," Kiara piped up, letting out a slight laugh and shaking her head.

"Shut up Kiara!" Kion growled, glaring at his sister.

"Oh Kion no wonder you were so confused," Nala said, getting on one side of Kion and putting her paw around him.

"Son why would you talk to Scar?" Simba asked as he too put his paw around his youngest son. "We warned you how dangerous he is."

"Well no one would tell me anything about him," Kion said. "So I decided to go straight to the source. And Scar's really not so bad. He's just really misunderstood."

"Kion that's not true," Simba said, trying his best not to lose his temper with his young son. "He murdered your grandfather."

"Dad you don't know the whole story," Kion said. "From what Scar told me Grandpa Mufasa wasn't very nice to him when they were cubs. He always picked on him and made fun of him. Especially after he got his scar. Scar told me Grandpa gave him the nickname Scar."

"And teasing someone is grounds for death?" Kopa chimed in. "Puh I don't think so."

"It was an accident," Kion put in. "Scar told me he didn't mean to kill Grandpa. He just wanted to scare him."

"Kion that's a lie," Simba chimed in. "Scar very much wanted to kill my father. He told me so himself. He set the whole stampede up with the goal of not only killing my father but he intended for me to die that day as well. He confessed everything to me when he thought I was going to meet the same fate as my father."

"But Scar said," Kion began.

"Scar is a master manipulator," Nala said. "He can be very convincing when he wants to be. But it gets worse my sweet."

"It does?" Kion asked softly.

"Yes it does," Nala said, taking in a deep breath. Simba got on the side of his mate and nuzzled her, knowing what she was about to say. "You see my darlings there was a very big reason I left the Pride Land," Nala began. "Scar wanted a young healthy mate to give him a healthy heir. And since Zira was unable to do that he went looking else where. Namely to me."

"You mean he..." Kiara said, trailing off at the horrible thought.

"Yes my darling," Nala said softly. "I left because Scar tried to rape me that night." This admission caused the cubs to gasp and their eyes went wide with horror. After a few minutes of stunned silence the cubs finally found their voices.

"Why didn't you tell us this before Mom?" Kion asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Well honey as I said before you were to young to understand before," Nala said, taking in a shaky breath. "And honestly I wasn't sure I would ever be ready to tell you three the horrible truth. But I realized that I had to tell you the truth about Scar before it was too late."

"It already is," Kion said, his voice very soft as he lowered his eyes.

"What do you mean honey?" Nala asked, giving her son a confused look. Kion opened his mouth to respond, fully prepared to tell his mother everything that he had done. But when he looked over at Simba he remembered the words his father had said before about what happens to traitors. So the young Prince decided not to say anything about what he had done.

"N..nothing," Kion stammered, looking away from his parents quickly. "I was just in shock about what you said that's all."

"Kion," Simba began, knowing full well that his son was lying.

"I...I think I'll go find Beshte," Kion said quickly, avoiding eye contact with his family. "We've got some things to talk about."

"Hold on Kion," Simba said. "We need to..."

"See you all later," Kion said as he dashed off. "Love you guys."

"Kion wait!" Kiara cried out, but her words had no affect as the golden Prince was already gone.

"Well that was strange," Nala said, wrinkling her brow in worry.

"I'll say it was," Kopa muttered. Then he said louder. "Don't worry Mom and Dad I'll talk to Kion and see what the heck is going on with him."

"You mean we will," Kiara chimed in, giving her brother an annoyed look.

"Whatever Kiara," Kopa said, rolling his blue eyes. "Lets just go." With that the Prince and Princess were off to find their brother leaving their confused and worried parents behind. Everyone was silently hoping Kopa and Kiara would be able to get Kion to talk about what was going with him before it was too late.
