Chapter 8— A Surprise Prom Queen?

Bella's POV

We arrived at school, and all walked up to the cafeteria where the dinner was going to be held. Luckily, all of us ducks were sitting together in a group of three tables with eight people around each table. It was the usual academic and sports banquet. They also announced who was going to be honored with cords to the National Honor Society. Both Adam and I were going to be honored with cords, along with Julie. I know that Gunnar worked hard to get his grades up to the top 10% of the class, but it wasn't enough. They also announced who was going to be valedictorian and salutatorian.

"And now our final academic awards for the night," Dr. Donovan said.

"The salutatorian is the one who is the second best in the class of 2000 and will give a speech at graduation. This person has a GPA of 3.998 and the salutatorian is Julie Gaffney," Dr. West said.

"The valedictorian is the one who is the first best in the class of 2000 and will give a speech at graduation. This person has a GPA of 3.999 and the valedictorian is Jeremiah Hope," Dr. Donovan said.

"Congratulations, Julie," We all said.

"Thanks guys, I am happy. That was a lot of hard work," Julie said.

We walked down to the gymnasium and saw how decked out it was, with an arch of twinkle lights that led to the dance floor. There were even twinkle lights in the rafters of the gymnasium and around the rails on the platform for the upper deck on the one side of the court. It was amazing, we came into the gym with "Underneath The Stars" by Mariah Carey playing.

Once the entire student body was in the Gym with the Chaperones we heard from the DJ, "Hello Eden Hall, are you ready to get your prom a Rock' in?"

"Yeah," The entire student body said.

"Yeah Alright here we go, with a favorite of mine by Mr. Michael Jackson," The DJ said as "Rock Your Body," came over the speakers.

We all danced around in a circle, as the music came over us.

Bella's POV

After an hour and a half of dancing, it was time for the crowning of the prom royalty.

"Would the candidates of Prom King and Queen please come to the stage?" The DJ said. I was one of the finalists for Prom Queen along with Reese Brockmeier, Mackenzie Jones, and Erica Williams. Prom King Finalists were Seth Fisher, Jesse Miller, Grant Willis, and Gunnar. I was shocked when Gunnar was announced as one of the finalists. I guess somehow people still didn't get that not only was Gunnar was gay, but he was also seeing my brother. I thought that would have thrown him out of the running with the rest of the ducks.

"Alright Eden Hall your Prom King is, drum roll please…. Grant Willis," said the DJ.

I saw out of the corner of my eye, Gunnar looked up at the sky and mumbled something, I wasn't sure what.

Grant was given his Prom King hat and was holding the crown for the queen. "Alright, Grant you ready to meet your Prom Queen?" asked the DJ.

"Yes," Grant said. He was six foot seven inches tall. On the football, Basketball and Track Teams. He kind of reminded me of Cole. It was funny that they were like third cousins or something. You can tell that Grant got the brains of the family.

"Your Prom Queen is drum roll please….. Isabella Banks," said the DJ.

I was stunned until I heard, "QUACK, QUACK, QUACK, QUACK, QUACK, QUACK, QUACK." Out of the ducks.

"ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME, HER? SHE IS SO UGLY!" Reese yelled. It goes to show you that even her facelift she got over the previous summer could not get her the title of Queen. She was runner up in Homecoming queen as well as Greata Krejci took the crown of Homecoming queen.

"My Queen," Grant said to me as he put my crown on my head, then he bowed and led me out to the Dance Floor as the Song "Under The Stars," played. It was fitting because it was our prom theme Underneath the Stars.

Once the Song was finished I found Charlie at the punch bowl. "Hey Charlie," I said.

"Oh, royalty is coming to speak to me, what have I done to deserve such an honor?" Charlie said.

"Oh, stop it. You've done everything a boyfriend is supposed to do," I said.

"Yeah," Charlie said.

"Yeah would you dance with me?" I asked as I heard some of the words to "Breathe" By Faith Hill.

"Sure," Charlie said.

"All my thoughts just seem to settle on the breeze

When I'm lying wrapped up in your arms

The whole world just fades away" The song said.

"Thank You Charlie," I said.

"Anything for my queen," Charlie said.

April 30th, 2000, 4:00 am

Charlies POV

The After Prom Party just got over with at the rink, it was funny to see the ice gone replaced with a concrete floor. On the floor were a whole bunch of casino games and we were given fifty prom bucks each, which was essentially Monopoly money that had Eden Hall's crest on the money. It was a great time. I needed to go and pick up my Jeep from Averman's and then I was going to take Bella home, to her real home. Bella drove me, Tammy, Fulton, and her over to Averman's to go and pick up my Jeep.

"You be careful with my car, Fulton," Bella said.

"I promise to return it in at least 2 pieces," Fulton said.

"FULTON!" Bella said.

"I am kidding it will be fine," Fulton said.

"Good night, you two," Tammy said.

With that Tammy and Fulton took off for breakfast at IHOP.

"Tired?" I asked Bella halfway to her house.

"Yes, it's been a long day," Bella said, still wearing her crown.

"Anything for my queen," I said and took her hand and held it.

I helped Bella with her stuff inside and kissed her goodnight and went home to crash for a few hours. Tomorrow well actually today was the last day of the business for Fred's store that he manages. Bella promised me she would come for the last couple of hours of business. Then we were to help move out all of the equipment and stuff.
