Hello everyone, I'm back once again to bring you another chapter of my story; if you are enjoying it please keep on supporting me and my other works. This is gonna be a slower chapter than the others; it can't be action 24/7, you gotta give your characters a chance to breath. Now with nothing else to say lets begin.
Naruto's Undead Nightmare: Chapter 6
(2 week laters) Land of Fire; Western Territory forest
A lone infected was huddling on the ground of the forest floor, eating a deer it had caught and killed; as it snapped it's jaws and ripped skin and flesh from the neck of the dead animal a snap of a twig got it's attention.
"Gruhh" the infected grunted as it sat up and turned around just in time for a machete to come down and bury itself into it's skull.
Naruto lifted his leg and kicked the infected in the chest to dislodge it from his weapon "aww crap" he groaned as Tenten walked up behind it "looks like we were too slow".
"There goes fresh meat for tonight" Tenten said as she shouldered her crossbow "damn, probably should've asked Hana to join me; no offense".
"None taken" Naruto said as he wiped the blood off of his blade and sheathed it "I just hope Hana and Konohamaru are doing better than we are". Without saying another word Naruto and Tenten began to walk westward "we ain't out of food yet, but I miss eating food that isn't from a can" Naruto said before groaning "I wish I didn't eat my last cup of ramen yesterday".
Tenten giggled at this and spoke "it's the end of the world and you miss cup ramen?" Tenten said and Naruto looked at her "nice to know you have your priorities straight".
"Hey" Naruto said with annoyance in his voice "a world without ramen is a world I don't wanna live in"; Naruto turned his head with a huff and continued. "I'll find some more; but until then I'm gonna complain, believe it" Naruto said making Tenten laugh making Naruto get a tic mark "stop laughing damn it".
……
About 30 minutes later Naruto and Tenten found the dirt road they were walking along and waited by a sign; the sign had multiple arrows pointing in various directions and to multiple towns and villages. The one that stood out was the one that said 'Suna: One hundred Km'.
As they both waited by the sign Naruto looked around for any threats and began to speak "it's strange isn't it?" Naruto said and Tenten looked at him "we've only been seeing scattered infected, groups no bigger than five or six at a time; and no people… I thought we'd see some more by now".
"The land of fire is more urban than other countries" Tenten said "others like the land of rice or the land of fields is more agricultural". "So it makes sense we haven't seen any survivors or infected" Tenten said "more people in town and villages means less people in the countryside".
"Fair enough; it just bugs me a little" Naruto said as he scratched the back of his head "I hope we're not the last ones alive; just because the village hated me doesn't mean I don't miss people".
Tenten frowned at this, Naruto had told her and Hana about his childhood and the neglect he endured by Konoha; despite this Naruto remained very positive and cheerful, how he did this is a mystery to them. Konohamaru knew why but wouldn't tell them and Naruto's wouldn't tell them since he said 'it doesn't matter now'.
Before Tenten could speak they head a noise from the forest; both she and Naruto turned around ready to fight until Konohamaru and Hana appeared. Both Hana and Konohamaru had rabbits and squirrels hanging from a string.
"Looks like you two got lucky" Tenten said and Hana walked up with a smile.
"Yep, six rabbits and ten squirrels" Hana said as she walked up "we'll be good for tonight and tomorrow".
"Just gotta salt them" Konohamaru said as he smiled holding the string of squirrels "how'd you guys do?"
"We were tracking a deer; but an infected got if before we could shoot it" Naruto said with a sigh and Hana groaned.
"Damn, I would kill for a steak right now" Hana said before taking a breath "so what now?"
"We found a farm not that far away from here" Naruto said "it's deserted, me and Tenten checked it out before we saw signs of the deer; we could go there, we didn't look inside for food since we planned to tell you about it".
"Well lets get going" Konohamaru said "it's going to be dark soon"; Naruto and Tenten led Konohamaru and Hana into the woods and towards the farm they discovered.
1 Hour later; at the farm: With Naruto, Tenten, Konohamaru and Hana
The four survivors were sitting in front of a fireplace as the squirrels cooked over the open fire; Konohamaru was salting the skinned rabbits to preserve them as the others talked about what to do next.
"We should avoid the town" Hana said pointing at the map "that place might be crawling with infected; we've been lucky so far and I don't want to push it".
"We're running out of food" Tenten said "without sealing scrolls we're left with only what we can carry; we need more supplies and maybe if we're luck we can find people".
"That's a good point" Naruto said agreeing with Tenten "plus, that's a river town; so that means we can cross the bridge and go to the other side". "I don't feel like backtracking or taking a longer route" Naruto said "plus this house hardly had a damn thing to eat; other than a bag or rice and a can of fish".
"I don't know how I feel about this" Hana said "we could be walking into a trap"; Hana looked over to Konohamaru and spoke. "How about you kid; what you thinking?" Hana asked and Konohamaru paused and looked over.
"I just want to stay alive; as long as that happens I'll do whatever you guys think is best" Konohamaru said before resuming his task.
"How about this?" Naruto said "you and me scout the town while Tenten and Konohamaru stay in the outskirts; if it seems dangerous we can just back off and leave?"
Hana hearing this nodded "alright, lets do it in the morning; it'll probably take us an hour to walk there" she said as she got up and walked over to the fireplace and examined the squirrels that were now fully cooked. "Food's done" Hana said as she grabbed the wooden skewers and held the steaming rodents up "let chow down".
The next morning: With Naruto and Hana
Naruto and Hana were both walking down the road to the town that they were planning to pass through; as they walked Naruto held his machete in his hand, ready to slash at a moments notice. Hana meanwhile held a kunai in each of her hands as they walked along the road.
Upon reaching a hill both Naruto and Hana ran up and stood at the top to overlook the village; Naruto put up his machete and took out a pair of binoculars. He scanned the village and saw that there were infected walking around but to his surprise there were not as many as he expected.
The village wasn't a farming village, instead it was dotted with bars, casinos and hotels "I'm seeing some infected but not a lot; I think this is a tourist town" Naruto said as he pulled his eyes away and handed the binoculars to Hana.
Hana took them and looked through and scanned the village "it's a decent sized village though; could be more that we are not seeing" Hana said and Naruto nodded in agreement "still… I think we can manage". Hana handed the binoculars back to Naruto and spoke "alright, lets get the others and make our way down there" Hana said and Naruto nodded.
"Alrighty" Naruto chirped as he put his binoculars away and both he and Hana turned around and began to rush back to tell Tenten and Konohamaru.
……
A little while later Naruto, Tenten, Hana and Konohamaru were all walking through the village with their guards up and their weapons ready; all four of them were in a 'diamond formation' with Tenten at the front, Naruto and Hana in the middle and Konohamaru in the back.
As they approached an intersection they began to see several bodies on the ground and Naruto observed them.
The bodies showed the telltale signs of being infected; bloody and torn cloths, bite wounds on arms and legs and grey skin. However the dead infected were a bit odd as they were decapitated; but unlike a decapitation with Naruto's machete the heads looked like they got smashed off rather than cut off.
"Damn, what couldn't done that?" Naruto asked as he passed by one of the bodies.
"Looks like they got hit in the head with a sledge hammer" Hana said as she looked at the body; as they walked along the road an infected stumbled out from a nearby alley way and Tenten quickly brought up her crossbow and shot it in the head killing it.
"Got one" Tenten said as she and Naruto ran over to the body so she can retrieve her bolt; the two of them ran back to the group and took up a 'diamond formation' once more. Upon reaching the intersection they looked down the streets to determine where to go.
"Alright guys… where do you wanna go?" Naruto asked as he looked off to the left "wanna see if we can find that bridge?"
"First we need to find some supplies" Hana said as she scanned the road to the right "lets go find a market or a store and-"; Hana was cut off from a loud crash down the road she was looking at. Upon hearing this everyone looked over and got into a defensive position.
"Where's that come from?" Konohamaru asked and Hana squinted her eyes "i think it came from that bar but-"; Hana was cut off once more when a steel door was kicked off it's hinges and across the street into a coffee shop.
Tenten raised her crossbow as a figure walked out into the street; without hesitating she fired the bolt towards the figure. To everyone's shock the figure's hand shot up and caught the bolt effortlessly.
"Who the hell is shooting at me !?" Shouted a woman's voice and Tenten felt the color drain out of her face; the woman looked over and pointed "hey… stop right there!"
The group was about to run but before they could move the woman dashed over so fast that it astonished them; upon seeing this Konohamaru had a realization 'i-is she using chakra?' Konohamaru thought.
The woman stopped a few feet away her hands balled up into fists "what were you thing huh; you would've killed me if I was a normal person!?" The woman roared in anger.
Upon further examination Naruto was stunned at who he was looking at; she was a tall, beautiful, blonde woman with a diamond tattoo on her forehead. She wore black pants, black sandals, a green haori, and a gray blouse that showed off her rather large breasts; on her back was a large old fashion Konoha backpack that was packed to the brim with supplies.
The woman was clearly angry but her anger subsided when she saw the Konoha forehead protectors on Naruto, Tenten and Hana; Naruto's was split in half for some reason but she didn't think nothing of it.
"You're from Konoha?" the woman asked and Naruto nodded as he raised his hands up.
"Y-yeah we are; we've been on the road" Naruto stammered out "sorry for shooting at you lady, we just thought you might be one of the 'special' infected".
"It's not 'Lady' you little turd" the woman said standing up and pointing a thumb at herself "the name is Tsunade Senju; one of the legendary sanin and the worlds greatest medical ninja".
'Wait? Tsunade… THE Tsunade' Hana thought wide eyed.
"OH MY GOD LADY TSUNADE" Tenten cheered as she darted forward and took both of Tsunade's hands "ohmygodIshould'veknownthatyouwerestillalivetherewasnowayanyinfectedcould'vegotyouohmygodyou'remyheroand-"
Tsunade grabbed Tenten by the face and stopped her really long sentence "and… who are you?" Tsunade asked a little freaked out and Tenten backed up.
"I'm Tenten, sorry for fan-girling over you; you're just my hero" Tenten said with a bright smile and Tsunade rubbed the back of her head.
"Oh… well… nice to meet you too" Tsunade said 'wow, even at the end of the world I still have fans'; Tsunade looked over at the group and spoke. "And who are you all?" Tsunade asked and Naruto stood up straight.
"Naruto Uzumaki, last surviving member of team seven and I woke up from a coma a little over a week ago" Naruto said making Tenten, Hana and Konohamaru sweat drop.
'Huh… Uzumaki?' Tsunade thought with a raised eyebrow 'the last Uzumaki in Konoha was Kushina… is this kid related to her-'; suddenly it hit her like a ton of bricks. 'Oh my god, Kushina and Minato had a kid' Tsunade thought; Tsunade looked at Naruto and spoke "hey kid, what were your parents names?"
Naruto scrunched up his face and spoke "Uh, I'm an orphan; never had any… why?" Naruto responded and Tsunade nodded.
"Just curious, I knew an Uzumaki once; maybe just a coincidence" Tsunade said; however on the inside Tsunade was fuming 'Jiraya, if you're still alive you better have an excuse for this'.
"I'm Hana Inuzuka; last member of the Inuzuka clan" Hana said catching Tsunade's attention.
"And I'm Konohamaru Sarutobi; I think you were grandpa's student" Konohamaru said and Tsunade looked at him.
"Oh yeah, that old monkey" Tsunade said before she took in a deep breath "and assuming that since you're with these people that means Sensei is dead?"
Konohamaru nodded sadly "yeah" he said.
"Damn, I was heading to Konoha to see if he was still alive and the village was still operating" Tsunade said pinching the bridge of her nose "so where you four heading?"
"Suna" Hana said speaking up "we're heading there to see if it's still standing; considering it's in the middle of a desert makes that a very high possibility".
"Due to the lack of a large population; which also means less opportunities for infected to feed" Tsunade said nodding her head "I see the logic there".
"Do you wanna come with us?" Naruto asked and Tsunade looked at him "I mean… why not?"
Tsunade thought about this 'I've been on my own since Shizune and Tonton got…' Tsunade paused as she remembered what happened. Shizune locked Tsunade in her room after another night of drinking and gambling; upon waking up she saw that both her apprentice and her pet pig got killed by the infected. Pushing the feeling down Tsunade nodded "I don't see a reason not to" Tsunade said with a smile "we can go and-".
Before Tsunade could finish her sentence there was a scream that echoed through the air; everyone spun around and saw that there was a large group of about twelve infected running towards them. Naruto and the others got ready to defend themselves but before they could do anything Tsunade rushed by them and lifted her leg into the air.
Tsunade brought down her leg in an axe kick and to everyone's surprise the kick slammed into the earth making it shake and creating a split in the earth; the split in the earth opened up wider consuming nearly all of the infected but one. The one remaining infected rushed towards Tsunade but Tsunade didn't move; instead she spun around and delivered a spinning kick to the infected's head.
The result was the infected's head exploding into gore and Tsunade kicking off the blood and brain matter "yuck" Tsunade said as she shook her foot.
"Well now we know how those other one's died" Naruto said "hey Tsunade, how are you able to do that?"
Tsunade looked to him confused "huh… with my chakra; how else?" Tsunade said and everyone looked to her wide eyed "why're you all looking at me like that?"
"You can use chakra?" Tenten asked and Tsunade gave her a curious look.
"Well no shit" Tsunade said as she made a hand sign "Shadow Clone Jutsu"; upon saying that a clone of Tsunade appeared making everyone go wide eyed. "My chakra control has taken a real hit but I can still perform some jutsu" Tsunade said before she had a realization "wait, don't tell me none of you can use chakra?"
All four of Naruto's group shook their heads "nope, I tried and failed; I can't make a single clone" he said.
"My scrolls no longer work" Tenten said.
"No fire jutsu" Konohamaru said with a sigh.
"My ninjutsu is gone, but I can still use my sense of smell and hearing" Hana said; Tsunade got curious at this.
"That's strange; why am I able to use chakra when you all can't?" Tsunade said rubbing her chin 'could it be genetic… or possibly due to my one hundred healings?'; Tsunade thought harder. 'Maybe from by Grandfather Hashirama… or maybe Grandma Mito?' Tsunade thought; she then shook her head and spoke. "We'll talk about this later; for now lets get going" Tsunade said and the others nodded.
"Hey can we scavenge around a little; we're low on food?" Konohamaru asked and Tsunade gave it a moment and nodded.
"Alright fine; but lets get out of the village by night fall" Tsunade said and everyone nodded "I've been here for a two days now; there's a store about three blocks away, follow me". Tsunade began to lead the group through the village and Naruto decided to bring up the rear in order to cover them.
Later that evening; outside the village: With Naruto and the others
Naruto and the others were all staying in an abandoned inn outside of the village; Tsunade told them about how she's been staying there since she arrived and began scavenging around town. Tsunade while able to use chakra to an extent wasn't able to make any storage seals or anything jutsu above a C-rank; however due to her years of ninja training she was very well suited for long term survival.
Naruto was surprised to find out that Tsunade was Fifty-one years old considering how young she looked; he began to call her 'Granny Tsunade' which achieved him a smack to the head from both her and her fan-girl Tenten.
Right now everyone was organizing their hauls from todays day of scavenging.
Tsunade was scavenging around for antibiotics, painkillers and other medical supplies; considering now she had a group she decided to make medical kits for everyone. While a bite from an infected was a death sentence, that didn't mean that other injures were to be ignored; she pointed out that infection and disease can kill you just as easily.
Tenten other than finding more food was able to find some more bolts for her crossbow now numbering up to twenty; she also found some black powder and grenade shells so she can make homemade grenades.
Hana while looking through a hardware store was able to find a hatchet which she decided to make her main weapon; it had a foot long hickory handle and a two and a half pound head with a sharp edge. Right now she was drilling a hole in the bottom so she can attach a rope to it to make sure it doesn't slip away.
Konohamaru meanwhile was reading some manga that he took from the stores bookshelf's; despite it being the apocalypse he thought that it would be a good idea for him to shut his brain off for a little while and escape reality. While it may seem childish Naruto and the others envied him in his attempt to find sanity during this insane time.
Finally, Naruto was eagerly staring at the propane camp stove as a pow of water boiled on it "come on…come on" Naruto said; steam began to come out of the spout and Naruto smiled "finally". Naruto took off the pot and brought it over to several cups of ramen sitting on a table; he eagerly poured the hot water inside the first and continued until all were full "alrighty, foods almost done" he said.
"I can't believe the first thing you want to eat is cup ramen" Tsunade said as she walked over and sat down next to him "you know that these things can cause cancer right?"
Naruto looked at her with a look that was in between a pout and a annoyance as he crossed his arms "I don't care if it causes butthole cancer; I love ramen and I'll die before I stop eating it" he said making everyone else sweat drop.
"It's called Prostate cancer, you dumbass" Tsunade said and Naruto went wide eyed.
"Wait… there's actually a 'Butthole cancer'?" Naruto said and Tsunade slapped her forehead.
"Kami you're an idiot" Tsunade said and Naruto got a tic mark "just give me the damn cup"; Naruto grumbled and handed her a cup of ramen and some chop sticks. "Thanks" Tsunade said as she began to eat the hot noodles while looking at Naruto; as he ate his cup of ramen Tsunade looked at him closely.
Hair, eyes and skin tone of Minato and the face, attitude and bubble head personality of Kushina; Tsunade was almost one hundred percent sure now that he was in fact Kushina's kid.
"So Granny Tsunade" Naruto said snapping her out of her thoughts "are you gonna be the leader of our group now; since you're like old and strong and stuff?"; Tsunade leaned forward and flicked Naruto in the forehead making him yelp. "Yowww" Naruto whined.
"I'm not old you little brat" Tsunade hissed and Naruto stuck out his tongue "but to answer your question… maybe"; Tsunade looked towards the others who were looking at them. "I'm now the high speed jonin I used to be; years of drinking and gambling have taken it's toll" Tsunade said "hell… I haven't had a drink since Shizune died". A cold silence overtook the room before she continued "I will help you all get to Suna; and if we're lucky, we can set up there" she said.
"And what about after?" Hana asked as she put up her new hatchet.
"We'll see if we can help out and fight off these 'infected' as you call them" Tsunade said as she took another slurp of her food "I'm sure they can use my medical expertise and considering there are three ninja here they can use the bodies".
"Sounds good to me" Tenten said as she attacked another broad head to a bolt.
"But what if Suna isn't there anymore?" Konohamaru asked as he brought up the question that was on everyone's mind.
"Then we head somewhere else then" Naruto said simply and everyone looked at him "I mean… there has to be somewhere right; not every place couldn't fallen?"
"He has a point" Tsunade said "if Suna is a bust then we move on"; Tsunade finished her food and got up. "It's getting late, try to get some sleep" Tsunade ordered and Tenten, Hana and Konohamaru began to roll out their sleeping bags while Naruto grabbed a water bottle and got up "Where are you going?"
"The roof, to keep watch; I always take the first shift" Naruto said as he opened the door to the room and walked out.
Naruto reached the roof just as he finished his cup of ramen; as he was about to close the door a hand reached out and held it open. Tsunade had came up too and Naruto got a confused look on his face.
"I don't sleep much anyways" Tsunade said and Naruto nodded.
"I wouldn't mind some company" Naruto said as he took a seat on the ledge overlooking the village in the distance.
"So Naruto, I have to ask" Tsunade said as she sat beside him "do they know about the nine tails?"; this question shocked Naruto to his core and he looked at her wide eyed but she just gave him a smile.
"H-how'd you know?" Naruto asked and Tsunade chuckled.
"Deduction and women's intuition" Tsunade said before giving him a look "the last 'Uzumaki' in Konoha was a woman named Kushina"; Naruto felt his heart hitch and he looked at Tsunade. "She was in love with some blonde, pretty boy named Minato" Tsunade said "judging by your appearance and how you reacted to my question; I think I confirmed my answer".
"Y-you think you know my parents?" Naruto asked hopefully; Tsunade nodded "can you tell me about them?"
"Sensei enacted a law to keep it a secret; but seeing how the world is now, who gives a shit" Tsunade said as she leaned back "sure, I can tell you about them; but I warn you, it'll take a while to tell you everything".
"It's the end of the world Granny Tsunade" Naruto said "we got nothing but time"; Tsunade smiled a true smile for the first time since the apocalypse started. She sat up and looked at Naruto with a look of nostalgia on her face and began to tell her tale.
"You're mother was a brash, loud mouth redhead-" Tsunade began as Naruto listened closely; ironically Naruto was finding out about his beginning at the end of the world as he listened to Tsunade talk about his parents.
The two of them began to lose track of time as the stories went on and on; and for a quick moment in the hell that they were in, they found a moment of peace from talking about the past.
Ok another chapter done; I hope you all enjoyed it. So yeah, Tsunade is in the story and is telling Naruto about Kushina and Minato; might as well rip that bandaid off ASAP because it won't really be relevant for the rest of the story.
