Chapter 21
Who Needs Enemies?
Clover called for a prison transport which came very quickly as it was already stationed nearby. Love Ironwood's confidence in us. I also loved how warm and toasty it was inside the airship. And that it was equipped with emergency blankets which I wrapped myself up in. I made myself comfortable in the corner near the cockpit. Robyn and Qrow sat in the bench next to me. Clover sat on the other side next to a restrained Tyrian.
What I didn't love was that we had to do a loop around the tundra to avoid some of the Grimm before we make our way back to the academy so it was going to be a long flight. Nor that Tyrian, once he woke up and took notice of his situation, kept staring at me with morbid fascination.
After about ten minutes of this with none of the others saying anything I finally caved. "What?" Tyrian just quirked his head in confusion. I clarified. "You're staring at me like my stalker did in Vacuo. What is it?" I demanded.
"You had a stalker?" the others asked.
"Yeah some arrogant weirdo who ran a fight club with his sister," I said. "Not important."
"Well I just can't help but find you a little curious. Agatha was it?" Tyrian said. I raised an eyebrow in question and he went further. "Why I'm talking about our fight in the warehouse the night of Miss Hill's rally."
I flung my head back, now getting where Tyrian was going with this. "Oh! The whole 'being able to fight you in the dark' thing. Yeah, that requires an explanation."
"You're able to fight in the dark?" Clover asked impressed.
"I showed you guys a picture of Marik right? Dude taught us a few tricks in case something like that were to happen," I explained. It wasn't a lie. Being an Artic Fox faunus meant Marik was born with night vision. After a few of his childhood friends from the orphanage starting causing problems as resentment for their childhood Marik gave me, Cho, and Samantha training courses at night so we could defend ourselves better. It's what lead me to enhance my hearing instead of just relying on my own night vision.
Tyrian seemed satisfied with my answer and started humming idly. Like he didn't care that he got arrested. It set me on edge but the others just ignored him.
Robyn broke the silence next. "Hey Ags, I'm sorry about telling Ironwood that you told me about Salem. I didn't know it was meant to be that close to the chest."
I gave a dismissal wave. "Nah I'm not too worried about it. Ironwood seemed to have gotten over it pretty quickly. In fact, from what I saw when the two of you made that report, it seems like he's finally starting to calm down." Just then a ping went off on Qrow's scroll and Ruby's voice echoed in the airship.
"Ironwood's declaring Martial Law and abandoning Mantel. Salem is coming and he's going to use the staff to move Atlas. If we don't stop him Mantel is going to be des-"
Ruby's call was cut off but we got the message. "We're screwed," I deadpanned.
"Declaring Martial Law?" Robyn asked breathlessly before her face hardened. "We can not let him do this."
Clover kept his face neutral. "Miss Hill, I'm certain the General understands the enormity of this-" he was cut off by a ping from his scroll. He opened it up and his face grimaced even further.
"What is it Clover?" I asked despite knowing it was probably more bad news. Silently Clover got up and walked towards us. Qrow nervously placed a hand on Harbinger. I stood up as well. Shrugging of my blanket.
"Qrow, Agatha, you two should know that I have orders to bring the both of you in. There's an alert out for Team RWBY as well," he informed us. Even though he tried to be impassive about it I could see the sadness in his eyes. He didn't like this as much as the rest of us.
Sadly, one of Clover's greatest traits is also one of his worst. He is loyal to a literal fault. That is, first and foremost, to Ironwood.
"What? Has James lost his mind?" Qrow asked.
"I thought we just established that," I said, trying to lighten the mood. It didn't work.
Robyn stood up. "He is trying to put down anyone who's going to put a stop to this mad plan. Looks like he's underestimated me." She ready her bow at Clover. "Again."
I put my hand on Robyn's trying to get her to lower her weapon. "Cool it Robyn. Now is not the time for us to fight."
"Back off Headphones!" Robyn screeched, shoving me into the cockpit. Qrow shot up and gave me a worried look while Clover, who looked pissed, withdrew Kingfisher.
Qrow also noticed this and raised a hand to Clover trying to pacify him. "Cut it out. Both of you. Look, we're almost to Atlas. Let's talk to James and-"
Tyrian got annoyed by our conversation. "It's taking a very long time for this show to be getting to the good part."
"Shut. UP!" Qrow and I growled. Tyrian riling us up was the last thing I wanted.
Unfortunately, it was working on Robyn. "He's right. Let's get this over with."
"Robyn don't!" I tried, reaching out for her again but she had already fired. Clover was able to bat it away. I quickly pulled out Yang and swept at her feet before she was able to fire another arrow. She fell and I jumped over her, shielding Clover. "Can we not do this now?"
Robyn fired another arrow but I deployed the shield in Yang to block it and it bounced off somewhere. She then charged at me but Clover and I quickly sidestep and I tripped Robyn making her fall down again. Before she had a chance to recover, I grabbed the arm that held her weapon and pinned it behind her back. "Seriously, will you knock it off!" I screamed.
Robyn growled and turned her head towards me. Betrayal and hurt flashing through her eyes. "Who's side are you even on Agatha?"
"Mine apparently," I answered. "Did the rest of you forget that we are on a tiny ass airship with a murdering-" I had pointed to where Tyrian... was sitting. "Where did he go?" I asked as we started to look.
My answer came in the form of the ship rocking and all of us being flung off our feet. We looked to see Tyrian in the cockpit. The pilots were dead and Tyrian was wearing the captain's hat of all things.
Qrow was able to reach him and grabbed the mad man by the shoulders. "What are you doing?" he asked.
"THE WILL OF OUR GODDESS!" Tyrian screamed. He kicked Qrow away and jerked the controls down.
I was too preoccupied to process the comment with the airship going down fast. I saw Clover open up the hatch and jumped out before everything went white and darkness set in.
As I came to, the smell of gasoline filled my nose and deranged giggling rang in my ears. Clutching my head and groaning, I looked up to see Tyrian, freed from his cuffs, slipping on his weapons. We made eye contact for a brief moment before he launched himself at me. Yang was still in my other hand so I quickly put a shield up, blocking his attack, before pulling Yin out and shooting him. The blast sent him out of the ship.
As I ran out to make sure he didn't escape I heard the sound of more weapons clashing. The two of us looked to see Qrow and Clover fighting each other. I quickly ran to them, wanting to stop the fight. Tyrian jumped in front of me. "Why don't we leave them be," he suggested and started his onslaught on me. I quickly went on the defense but Tyrian was fast.
"Hey guys I could use a hand here!" I called out, hoping the Luck Birds could hear me. I chanced upon a glance only to see that they hadn't noticed. "Guys, hello!" I tried again. Still they ignored me. Or they didn't hear me. I wasn't sure. Finally I was able to push Tyrian back enough to take my eyes off him for a few seconds and called out to my friends once more. "GUYS!" Their fight didn't stop. And they seem even further from me now.
"Awww, I think they're more focused on each other than the world around them," Tyrian mocked.
Yeah, and not in the way I like.
I growled and turned to face him. Tyrian continued his assault, slashing at me left and right as I did my best to counter his attack. "Isn't it glorious?" he mocked. "The beautiful display of betrayal. Of division. Of watching everything burn around us. Oh my Goddess will be most pleased."
Oh yeah. Forgot about that little comment.
I quickly fired a shot of fire dust at the psychopath. My own anger at what he said made me forget about my friends for a moment. "There's only one Goddess, Party Poison. And I'm pretty sure she is way more mature than that demented crybaby you serve."
Tyrian grew furious and launched himself at me. "The Goddess of Empty? Please. That pathetic excuse for a deity is a moronic child compared to my Queen. "
I ducked and weave through Tyrian's attack. "Not. Who. I. Was. Talking about!" I finally managed to block one of his strikes with Yin and jabbed Yang into his stomach. Firing off a round and sending him back a couple of feet.
Tyrian quickly got back to his feet. "It doesn't matter. My queen will soon arrive and you will all burn." This time I charged at him, jumping up and tried to slam my tonfas down on him but he blocked it with his blades and shoved me back.
Things are starting to accelerate into something
Never stopping always trouble bubbling
He fired off his guns and I blocked it with my shield. Using his gunfire as cover, Tyrian got closer to me and was able to wrap his tail around my ankle. With surprising strength he lifted me up with his tail and tried to slam me to the ground.
Now I think I'm getting dizzy, too much spinning
Page by page the plot is thickening quickening
I was able to switch to my gravity dust in my tonfas and fired off a round to send me back into the air and freed my ankle from Tyrian's tail. As I landed I felt a sense of Deja Vu.
It's getting too insane
Tyrian ran forward again and tried to slice my face. I blocked it with Yang and swung Yin into his stomach. Just like we did in my vision.
I'm trying to maintain
Woah, woah, woah, woah
Great so it's now.
Woah, woah wooaaahhh
Okay so next he's going to try and slash my stomach but I block and try to kick out his feet. But he blocks it with his tail and manages to slash at my back. But what if I?
You run around
I run around
We're all gonna run, run, run around
He goes for the slash. I block but instead I use the gravity dust in Yang to get a boost in the air so I can fire at him from above. However, Tyrian manages to wrap his tail around my waist and slams me to the ground. He stomps on my stomach and I felt my aura break.
You run around
I run around
We're all gonna run, run, run around
Before Tyrin could try and deliver the final blow he gets distracted by Harbinger flying over and landing just behind him. We both look and thanks to my new position I could now see Qrow charging at Clover and was able to punch him right in the stomach. Clover's aura breaks as he slides across the ice. Taking advantage of Tyrian's distraction I run past him and try to get to the guys. Try to get to Clover.
"Clover!" I cried out reaching out towards him. Finally both he and Qrow heard me and turned towards me. Then I feel my whole body go numb as something sharp and red enters my vision for a brief moment. Tyrian starts laughing behind me as he pulls out what I figured to be Harbinger from my body with an uncomfortable squelch.
I turned around to face him but became disoriented due to my injury and started to fall into the snow. Clover managed to catch me and placed one of his arms against my back and his other arm against my front in order to keep the blood in. Qrow ran over to us as well, looking pale. I gave him a small smile to assure him that things were going to be okay.
Doing a quick scan of my human body, I discovered Tyrian had punctured one of my lungs and nicked my liver. Not to mention all the blood vessels and muscle tissue he ripped through. Dammit this is going to take all day to recover! But I can't go into a trance now. Qrow and Clover would just freak out more and do everything they can to keep me awake until help arrives.
Tyrian finally stops laughing and rests Harbinger across his shoulders. "Well this is a surprise. I'll admit I was going to 'try my luck' and go after Clover after I finished you off. But it seemed like you thought I would go after him first. Wonder why that is?"
Because that's how it was in my vision since my aura was still intact in the dream. In retrospect, I should have known he'd try to finish me off first.
Clover was processing what Tyrian was saying while Qrow just screams about how he'll kill Tyrian.
"Oh you mean; like you two just killed Agatha?" Tyrian mocked, throwing Harbinger onto the snow. "You know she tried to warn the both of you about me. Kept calling out for help but you two would rather fight each other than help out your so-called friend. And now she's going to die."
"Don't you dare write me off," I told him in between gasps for breath. It was a struggle to stay conscious at this point even if I was already healing my wound. Slow as it was with the damage he did. "It'll take more than this to kill me. I promise you that."
Tyrian just scoffed and noticed an airship flying overhead. Clover must have called for reinforcement at some point. Qrow made to punch Tyrian but given by how upset he was, Tyrian was able to easily dodge it. "Looks like we'll have to continue this another time. You know my track record with the authorities." With another mad laugh he started to run off.
Qrow made to run after him but then stopped and looked at me and Clover. I looked at the Ace Ops captain as well and could see the gears spin behind his eyes. Finally he looked to Qrow and said "Go after him. I'll stay with Agatha."
A new day
Is gone without a trace
Qrow was surprised. "What about your orders?" he asked.
"My orders were to arrest you. Not kill you," Clover stated. "If you slipped away while I'm tending to Agatha then Ironwood can't say anything about it."
All memories are dark and light is fading
Qrow gave a grateful smile and looked at me. "I'll be alright. Don't worry," I assured him. Qrow gave a nod before picking up Harbinger and going after Tyrian.
We try so hard, but what are we fighting for?
As Qrow left, the airship had arrived and set down near us. Several soldiers came out armed. A couple of them went over to where Robyn was. Still near the wreckage and is just now regaining consciousness herself. Clover called out for medical attention and I saw a couple of doctors were on board as well and quickly rushed over to us when they saw my condition.
We're losing all our strength, how can we give more?
Time falls away
"Just hang in there okay Agatha. The doctors are going to look after you. I need to take care of something real quick," Clover told me and walked over to Robyn as she was being escorted onto the ship in cuffs.
But pain always finds a way to stay
The tears that you've shed
The doctors hoisted me up on a stretcher and brought me inside the airship so they could begin their treatment, even though I already started the healing process on my body. But a couple of bandages won't hurt.
Clover, Robyn and the rest of the officers followed soon after and I saw Robyn was freed from her cuffs. She noticed me and let out a small gasp.
May find a tree to water
"Agatha. I'm so sorry," Robyn said with tears streaming down her eyes.
But only when your stronger
I shook my head, wincing at the pain the movement caused. "This isn't on you," I told her. "Or you," I added looking at Clover. "And it's not on Qrow either. This one is on me. I promise I'll be okay. I just need to rest a little bit."
I promise I'll be here until the end
I closed my eyes and went into a trance so I could finally give my wound the full attention it deserved. Salem was right around the corner and I needed to be at a hundred percent as soon as possible.
I promise I'll be here until the end
At that concludes the volume 7 arc. Now I know what you're all thinking. Why put Agatha out of commission temporarily just as Salem shows up? Because I don't want Ironwood to loose a single solider when Salem brings down the force field and Agatha can help with that in the shadows. And it will be way easier for her to sneak out of medical bay when everyone is preoccupied with the front lines then it would be for her to sneak away from her friends for however long it's going to take.
On that note I should mention that the volume 8 arc is going to be a bit different from the rest of the story. With Clover still alive and Qrow and Robyn not being arrested I wanna show what's going on with them while Agatha recovers. So the POV is going to be in third person and bounce between Qrow and Clover until Agatha recovers and then it will bounce around between all three of them until the end of the volume. Hopefully it won't be confusing.
