Note: As you may be aware from recent events, we have a Barry-centered plot coming, but before that we have this plot three-years in the making. So, it's finally time for Darkness of the League and the beginning of two Eclispso plots – one for New Justice and the other for SuperEarth. A unique thing for Sigma and I, doing the same plot in two different stories.
The Oncoming Storm
-December 26th, 2022-
Rae, as the Flash, had just taken down a meta human who had been trying to rob a bank; she and Clarky had taken down this meta and his little gang easily enough as the police came in to take them away and free the hostages within.
"Good job, Flash," an officer said to Rae, but before she could respond a portal opened, surprising all but Clarky who gave a bark and ran in.
"Don't worry, that's for me," Rae said, knowing on instinct it was the Speed Force and ran into the portal.
When she got in there, she noticed her dog was already getting pets from the Speed Force, but the Speed Force wasn't looking like Aunt Nora or an older version of Kara this time – in fact, if Rae remembered, this was an older version of herself.
There was also a Barry standing there.
"This better not be new Speed Force missions," Rae said, instantly, nodding to Barry as she addressed the Speed Force, who chuckled. She wasn't in the mood today for a Speed Force mission, but she would do it if needed. In her mind she always thought of the one time she failed a Speed Force mission on Lantern Earth, which never came back after Crisis. Ever since, she had tried her hardest to complete missions the Speed Force gave her.
"No. Hello Rae," the Speed Force stated simply. "No, this is more… a warning."
"Warning?" Barry and Rae said together.
"There's a darkness coming to both your worlds, sooner than me or my siblings expected," she stated, and both Rae and Barry paused at this, looking to one another.
"Aunt Sphere warned me about an oncoming darkness…" Rae muttered, wondering if this was related.
"I've been told of a great evil coming," Barry added, making Rae pause at that wondering which Barry this was.
"SuperEarth?" Rae had to confirm with Barry, who nodded at this. Rae had assumed it was Prime Barry at first, but the look didn't fit Prime or Karry. SuperEarth was her next logical guess. "That's different. It's usually Prime or Karry or both of them I meet in here," SuperEarth Barry gave her a small smile at this.
"The darkness, the evil… they're one and the same, and yet completely different. They are coming for your worlds in different ways," the Speed Force told them. "I can't tell you much more. You need to find out on your own, but I needed to bring you both here, my children, because I wanted you to be prepared. Rae," she turned to the woman first, "you will need to trust in a different kind of darkness. You will need to get the help of my siblings and trust in the black cat. Being a Paragon will be useful, too."
"Black cat….?" Rae seemed perplexed in that – the way the Speed Force said it rang a bell, but Rae couldn't place to what. "Well, that's cryptic," she pointed out, raising an eyebrow to Barry now.
"I cannot tell you more. To tell you further could interfere in a way that has the oppose effect than what I want. I'm sorry," the Speed Force did look sad at this. "But Barry," she turned to Barry at this, "you know the Totems of Zambezi are to play a crucial part in this, that you will bear the Air Totem, but you need your speed too. You can be in two places at once…"
"What?" Barry asked, but the Speed Force saying Barry had to be in two places at once made more sense to Rae than her warning, but she didn't want to interrupt just yet.
"A recent visitor to your world, and Kara's new sister, will be vital in taking on this evil, too – it helps Kara is a Paragon also," she added of this, and Barry turned to Rae and Rae knew Barry knew she had an idea. "SuperEarth and New Justice are two of the most important worlds in the multiverse. You cannot fail," the Speed Force added, obviously meaning that they were two of the seven Paragon worlds.
"What…?" Barry began to ask Rae as their Speed Force mother seemed to back away and play with Clarky, to allow her two children time to talk. Rae needed to tell Barry what she knew while they were here.
"You're going to need to be in two places at once!" Rae called out, just as dramatically as the Speed Force and thought Barry should get it, but by the look he gave her, Rae realized he had no clue. "Don't you get it? Remember when you time travelled to save your Kara?"
"Only too well…" Barry mused, sadly. Rae remembered the event well: when Barry had texted him for time travel advice to save his Kara's life. It ended up being a good thing Barry did that, since Kara was obviously made a Paragon not long later, although it had released Enchantress back upon his world.
"Well, it's that, only don't run back to yourself – keep yourself as far away from your past self as possible, because only then can you create an aborted timeline where you both exist. You will make a time remnant – an extra version of yourself. I actually did it once, to surprise my Barry… long story," she stopped at that as the Speed Force gave a chuckle, still listening in. Rae didn't like making a time remnant, but it had been needed in stopping her Barry at the time.
"Very good, Rae," the Speed Force spoke up at this. "And know, Barry, there will be no punishment for doing this. In fact, I encourage it as I will need help from one of you soon after the events. But that is where I must leave you," the Speed Force stated, just as cryptically.
"Wait, that's it?" Barry turned to the Speed Force again, surprised the Speed Force hadn't given them more information.
"One of your more mysteriously quick meetings," Rae shrugged at that, just as two portals opened in the park behind the Speed Force: one for Rae and her dog, one for Barry. Clarky was already running through the portal.
Rae herself headed back through it as she heard Barry trying to ask some more questions but couldn't really make it out. She shrugged as she walked out finding herself in her own home. SuperEarth Barry wasn't as used their Speed Force meeting as Rae was.
If SuperEarth needed her they could text…
-New Justice-
January 2nd, 2023
Rae looked at the British man standing bleeding in her living room as Clarky still barked at the intruder. The man had just said the name 'Eclipso and Rae wasn't sure why a shiver ran up her spine when she heard this name.
It had been an interesting 24 hours for her; she had been planning on celebrating her birthday by playing golf with her grandfather and then a dinner at her grandparents, which Kara and Leona were going to join in on. However, she had ended up running after a hibernating alien who has been killing people every 20-ish years since at least the American Revolution; losing that alien when her father had time traveled from the past.
Then, this morning, she received a sweet letter her aunt and uncle had been keeping for her from her father to this day.
Then this man had appeared out of the darkness, with a dire warning – introducing himself as Richard Swift or better preferring the nickname 'Shade'. That he and some Doctor McNider, known also as Dr Midnight, had tried to defeat some evil but made it worst. He came with a warning that a darkness was on its way, and its name was Eclipso.
"Flash Pup, down," Rae finally told her dog, who was growling at the man, but stopped right away. Rae turned and gave Dragon, who had been sitting there, looking, and ready to pounce, a look saying 'don't'. Rae picked up Leona and held her close.
At that moment the door opened, and Courtney walked in.
"Hey Rae, I…" Courtney stopped as she looked at the man. "You!"
"Do I know you?" Shade asked, clearly not recognizing Courtney but the anger in Courtney eyes told Rae she knew him.
"Shade," Courtney said. "Rae, he was a member of the Injustice Society. He killed Dr. McNider!"
"I would never!" Shade said, clearly taking big offense to that.
"Court, different worlds," Rae reminded her adopted daughter, getting that Courtney knew something about this man as she took out her communicator, anyway. "All League Members, emergency League meeting – Home Base, now. Wild Fire, bring medical supplies." Rae put the communicator down; Shade was still injured, of course. "Come on you..." Rae indicated the door, and this Shade walked slowly though it as Rae turned to Courtney. "Get in your outfit. You're coming too." Courtney glared at Shade, but gave a nod, grabbing her Staff, which had a device connected in it to change her into her outfit in seconds. "Court, ever heard of Eclipso?" Rae added to the girl.
"No," Courtney said, shaking her head as she walked out. Rae opened a zap tunnel and waited for everyone to walk through before going through herself.
Once at Home Base, the island base of the Justice League, Rae gave a seat to Shade for him to sit in. Clarky sat near him, giving him an aggressive look – if he stepped out of line, the dog would be on him in a moment. Courtney kept a hold of her Staff which glowed as she, too, looked at the visiting man, ready to attack. Rae took her usual spot in Home Base, waiting for her League to show up as she put Leona in a playpen that they had set up here for when League kids were with them.
Caitlin was the first one to show up in her outfit with a medical bag in her hands. Rae barely had to indicate who her patient was before Caitlin was on Shade, looking over the wound and taking out some supplies to clean and patch up the injury, along with pain medication.
Slowly, her League came in one by one, all taking seats and looking over at their visitor. Nora and Ray brought their kids, putting the two small kids down with Leona. Chris was the last to show, mumbling an apology and something about classes.
"Alright, now that everyone is here," Rae said, looking over her friends, family, and her League. "Meet Richard Swift, apparently also known as the Shade. He has information about our so-called darkness we have been on the lookout for. Now, care to explain more?"
Shade, now patched up by Caitlin, gave Rae a nod as he slowly got to his feet. Caitlin seemed to have gotten him stitched up quickly as he leaned on his cane.
"Thank you for the care, young lady," Shade said, giving Caitlin a smile. "Now, as the Flash said I came to her with a warning. There was a terrible evil released onto this world. His name is Eclipso." Shade paused for a moment.
"Okay, the pause after the name is dramatic but please continue," Rae said. "And explain your powers and why I was hearing you calling my name all day yesterday…?"
"Well, you all know of the multiverse and the Forces of the Multiverse, oh, and Purgatory too," Shade said, making the members of the League look at each other, "so, I will skip that and go to the realms of each Earth – every Earth has realms of their own, heavens and Hells where souls go after death is most of them, but there is also the realm beyond the shadows," Shade pointed his cane at the shadow on the floor. "It is made of the darkness. Pure evil. The fear, doubt, anger in the human soul. It is Eclipso's realm. Long ago, before any of you were born, before your grandparents were even born, I was the intended victim in a ritual to open up the Shadowlands. The ritual was botched, since the diamond I sold them wasn't real." Shade gave a smirk at that. "The ritual did connect me to the shadows though. That is where my powers and immortality come from. I, among other things, can travel through the shadows. I was connecting to your shadow Flash, to bring my warning to you, but I was weak and couldn't get through."
Shade took a breath as he seemed to think for a moment of where to go. "I have lived a long life. Before my powers, I was a con man... I have been many things, until I met Charles McNider."
"You loved him," Rae said, and could see Courtney's surprise. Their worlds were clearly different here.
"He was unlike any man I have met," was all the Shade answered to that; Kara put an arm around her wife as they waited for Shade to continue.
"Eclipso is a demon from the shadow realms, able to manipulate reality, perception and thought and, through a combined effort of people like yourselves many, many years ago, he was trapped in the Black Diamond – an object connected to the shadowlands, to his home," Shade paused again at this. "He has been trapped in the Black Diamond for a very long time. It was an imperfect trap, since anyone who got hold of the Diamond would end up possessed by him and the only way to undo it was the kill the host to return Eclipso officially to the diamond. Charles and I… we got our hands on the diamond long ago. Eclispo is unable to possess me, so we thought we'd keep it safe."
"What went wrong?" This was Sara who asked it, as Shade seemed to pause.
"About two years ago there was a major anti-matter event. The sky turned red, worlds were destroyed," Shade said.
"How do you remember Crisis?" Rae asked fast, cutting Shade off. She hadn't unlocked his memories and only Paragons could do that.
"The world was destroyed – even the shadows, but me and Charles, we hid on the Edge, close to Purgatory. My powers allowed us near it and kept us alive until the worlds were brought back," Shade said. "You know this event as Crisis?"
"The Crisis of Infinite Earths. Yes," Rae said and gave her League a look that said do not elaborate.
"Well… afterward we discovered that after this event all Eclispos were dead. All but…"
"Seven," the heroes in the room cut Shade off as everyone – all thinking it was the seven Paragon worlds.
"No actually 9," Shade corrected the group. "9 worlds, 9 Eclipsos survived."
"9?" Ray asked, wondering what the other two worlds were.
"Knowing this Crisis killed so many Eclipsos, we decided to replicate the event on a mini scale – to destroy the Black Diamond and kill Eclipso here for good. We succeeded in destroying the Black Diamond, but… Eclispo didn't die. He was, instead, freed. I fought with him but was severely injured... he sent me and Charles into the shadows. Normally I would be able to escape with the Charles, but due to my injuries… I was unable to free us both. I tried to take us both to you; every time you heard me calling for you, Flash, but I couldn't get through. Finally, Charles told me to leave him. He said the world was more important and I needed to get to you before Eclipso regained strength. I didn't want to, but I knew he would be disappointed if I died there and didn't warn you. His equipment should be able to keep him safe…"
"Can you go back for him?" Courtney asked.
"Eclipso will know if I go into the shadows, if I use my powers," Shade said. "He's gaining his strength now, but he'll come for me if he senses me. I cannot go into the shadows or use my powers. I will be dead if I do and he will come. You stand against him. The only hope this world has is this League, but he will try to destroy you… and tempt you. He will whisper into your ear, get at your anger, your jealousy, your insecurities. The only one completely safe from being possessed by him is the Flash – her connection to one of the Forces of the Universes protects her."
Rae waited a moment but, knew Shade was done speaking.
"Okay," Rae stated, thinking things through. "Okay," she repeated, "Wild Fire, take our guest to Justice Hospital. Make sure he doesn't have any deeper injures." Caitlin gave a nod, knowing Rae wanted Shade gone to speak more freely and opened a zap tunnel to Justice Hospital. Shade didn't fight, leaving now he had given his warning.
"How much do we believe him?" Winn asked, the second Shade had gone.
"Both Aunt Sphere and Mother Speed Force have warned me about a coming darkness," Rae said. "Nerds, I want as much background on him as you can dig up," with that, the three nerds nodded and rushed to the computers. "Dark Witch, magical research. Eclipso, Black Diamond, Shadowlands." Nora gave a nod as Rae listed out what she wanted researched.
"I'll get Raven to help, too," Nora said speaking of the teenage Raven who Ray and her had taken in and Nora had been training in magic.
"If I am safe from this possession, then so is Jessica," Rae said giving the former Green Lantern a nod; she was the child of the Emotional Spectrum now, after all. "Oh, and Leona and Addison… Although being as young as they are, they'll barely be any help." Rae gave Addison and Leona a smile.
"Why Addy?" Ray asked, turning from the computer.
"Did I never tell you two she's a child of the Sphere of the Gods?" Rae asked, seeing the faces. "Damn it...!" Rae had a habit of forgetting to tell people things until it came up, but everyone was laughing now anyway as Ray and Nora looked at one another. "Right. Everyone else, look around your cities for anything suspicious. Keep an eye out for this Eclipso." There were 'yeses' and nods all around as everyone left to go on patrol in different cities.
"We still going to your grandparents tonight?" Kara asked, picking up Leona as she did.
"Yeah, unless Eclipso appears, can't cancel my birthday dinner twice," Rae said kissing her daughter and then Kara.
-New Justice-
That afternoon, Rae was in her grandparents' house in their living room. Her grandparents, Emily and Richard, were sitting along with Courtney, Chris, and Kara. Leona was there, too, sitting on Kara's lap. Rae was pacing, though, looking at her phone.
"So, Courtney, how is school?" Emily asked, looking for a distraction.
"Good, my Gymnastic team has gotten to Nationals," Courtney said.
"Congratulations," Richard said, smiling at the girl as Rae mumbled something. All of them gave her a look and then Richard decided to ask another question. "Chris, how's the new semester going?"
"Great – and having Carter and Ember in my apartment with me is working well. Nice to have company," Chris said.
"What the hell?" Rae asked.
"Okay, Rae, what is the problem?" Kara finally asked, having felt Rae nervousness and panic but choose to ignore it.
"I can't get in touch with SuperEarth! Every message I send to Barry or Kara there is failing," Rae explained, turning her cellphone to her wife to show the message to Barry with the words 'failed to send' under it, and then turning to a message to Kara's own alternate with the same.
"Why don't you actually try to call, sweetie?" Emily asked.
"Good idea, maybe their system is not forwarding texts or something. I should at least be able to get through to their Alex Danvers," Rae said, pushing the button on her phone to call SuperEarth.
"What the…?" Rae said, and then put the phone on speaker. Everyone could hear the busy tone coming through it.
"I didn't think that existed anymore," Courtney said.
"Shouldn't. Not with the multiverse system," Rae said. "When was the last time I heard from the Paragon of Courage…?" Rae went into the Paragon group text – the seven were constantly texting each other just little things, sometimes memes, sometimes fun GIFs.
She scrolled back until she found the last message from SuperEarth Kara.
"Damn. The last time SuperEarth Kara sent a message was about a month ago. Over that. It was about hiring a nanny and wanting to know if any of us used one," Rae mused.
"Not a bad idea," Emily said, making all four superheroes give her a look. "Never mind."
"She hasn't even been marked as seeing any of these messages," Rae said shaking her head and going to send a message to the group.
"What are you typing?" Richard asked.
"Just telling the others I am having a problem getting through to SuperEarth and asking if anyone can send a Vibe over," Rae said.
"Vibe?" Emily asked.
"Frankie," Kara supplied, as Rae sat next to her.
It was only a minute or two after Rae sent the message there was a bing.
"Prime said they would send theirs over," Rae said and typed something else.
"What now?" Chris asked.
"Just telling them to give SuperEarth a heads up this coming evil might be called Eclipso," Rae said, remembering her meeting with the Speed Force and SuperEarth Barry just after Christmas.
"A coming evil…?" Emily asked.
"Don't worry about it," Rae said.
"We always will, with you out there," Richard said, and Rae had to give a smile at that as she distracted herself by chatting with the others for a while before they were called into dinner.
It was after dinner, when Rae's birthday cake had come out and they had finished singing, that Rae's phone binged again. Rae looked at it.
"Vibe can't get through," Rae said, and then there were more bings. "And every Paragon world is now freaking out..." Rae looked at the still-burning candle and blew them all out.
"Did you make a wish?" Emily asked as her maid came to take the cake back to be cut.
"Yeah," Rae said, looking at her phone, but unsure what else she could do for her Paragon world that seemed to be missing.
-New Justice-
Later that night, Rae was pacing the bedroom as Kara was looking over reports the nerds and Nora had sent.
"Well, the nerds have traced back Richard Swift from a long time ago. He's… well, not exactly the greatest guy ever, but I think his story is legit," Kara said.
"No Vibe can get through or even see what's going on with SuperEarth," Rae said, instead. Her phone was in her hand.
"And Nora has found written accounts of a Shadowland in some of John Constantine's and the Amazonian's magic books – along with a beast who lives there," Kara said.
"They even tried magic to get through… Nothing," Rae said, not listening to her wife.
"Rae," Kara said.
"And the technology world hopping devices can't make a connection," Rae continued.
"Rae," Kara said again as Rae looked at the phone. "Rae!"
"Did you just call me Rae-Rae?" Rae asked, looking over to her wife.
"No, I called your name twice to get your attention," Kara said, and knew Rae must have felt her annoyance since Rae felt guilty. "I was telling you what the nerds and Nora found out about what you told them to research. Did you even hear me?"
"Yeah, Shade is legit, and Nora has some info on the shadows. I wasn't really doubting his story. Just doing a double-check," Rae said. "Always smart, even when you know someone is telling the truth."
"How do you know someone is telling the truth?" Kara asked, as Rae finally laid down next to her. Clarky, who was at the end up the bed, seemed happy his mistress sat down as Rae, as if on instinct, pet his head.
"Paragon of Truth," Rae said, pointing to herself, making Kara sigh.
"That's not an answer," Kara said.
"It's the best I got," Rae said, kissing Kara's cheek. "SuperEarth is meant to be facing the same evil as us. That's what mother Speed Force said. So, let's just connect the dots and say both of us are facing this Eclipso."
"Dots connected, theory accepted," Kara said, giving a nod.
"Now SuperEarth is disconnected from the multiverse. We know it's still there. It's not destroyed. We just can't reach it," Rae said.
"How do we know it's not destroyed?" Kara asked.
"If it was, the multiverse would be in serious trouble – it's not, so it's safe to say they're still there, we just can't reach it," Rae explained. If one of the Seven Paragon worlds had been destroyed, it would be bad news for the multiverse.
"Very much noted," Kara said.
"It should be safe to assume Eclipso is the reason why we can't reach SuperEarth, but if that was so, why do we still have our multiverse connection?" Rae asked.
"What else did the Speed Force say?" Kara asked.
"That we are facing the same evil, but in different ways. Told me I would need to get the support of her siblings and trust in the Black Cat," Rae said. "And that Barry would need to make a time remnant, that they had recent visitor to their world, and… something about Kara's new sister."
"My SuperEarth double has a new sister? Who?" Kara asked.
"No idea. I didn't ask," Rae shrugged.
"Okay. But she actually suggested Barry make a time remnant?" Kara added, knowing one of the big rules of being a speedster was not to mess with time.
"No, she said he had to be in two places at once," Rae said. "I put together the time remnant and she confirmed."
Kara gave a nod. "Seems the answer is flat on your face. Same evil, but different ways. SuperEarth's Eclipso might not want multiverse interference while ours doesn't care," Kara said, and Rae frowned but gave a nod. "Hopefully the hints the Speed Force gave Barry, and your small piece of advice, will help SuperEarth overcome their challenge, but we need to think of our world first. The Speed Forces siblings. List them."
"Aunt Sphere, Uncle Rock, Uncle Grumpy, Uncle Doc, Aunt Faithfulness, and I haven't met the last one yet, the Life Force…. Aunt Life, I guess?" Rae said.
"And will they help us?" Kara asked.
"Aunt Sphere was the first to warn me about a darkness. Uncle Rock was pretty nice, I did save Eric, and he did burn those books for me," Rae said giving a smirk at that. "Uncle Doc made some comment about being there when I needed him. Aunt Faithfulness was a pain in the ass and possibly has a split personality, but I think will be helpful – if she doesn't make me fight the Greek gods again. Aunt Life is a big question mark, but Uncle Grumpy… he told me to never come back."
"We do have Jessica," Kara said, knowing that was the Force Jessica was a child of by complete accident. "Maybe she will help get his help. Or maybe having her will mean we have his help already?" Rae gave a nod as Kara put an arm on her wife and pulled her close, kissing her neck. "Go to sleep. We will worry about this more tomorrow." Rae nodded, and closed her eyes, but knew drifting off to sleep would not come easily.
-New Justice-
Rae was sitting on top of a building in Central-National and had Leona with her. She was vibing herself so she was invisible, and no one could see the Flash baby on her, too. Clarky was sitting on the building, his sense of smell let him know Rae was there and knew not to freak, due to her invisibility. He was just waiting for her to single him to move.
"See, this is where I first met Uncle Clark and Aunt Diana," Rae said; this building was special to her as the first place she met the two who would be her mentors. "I wish they were still here…" there were moments in Rae's life she missed her old League; facing a great evil like this was one of those times. It was the reason she came here today – to remember them and remember what they would want her to do. To hold strong, lead her League and, most importantly, protect the world.
Rae's communicator binged and she took it out, expecting some random crime only to see an alert of a red – an all-hands-on deck situation in Metropolis. A video on her communicator let her see something odd was happening, and she knew without anyone having to tell her this was Eclipso.
"Everyone get to Metropolis. Supergirl, bring everyone," Rae said. "I'll be there as soon as I get a babysitter."
"Flash Pup," Rae said, turning visible, and didn't need to say anymore as a second later she was running and knew her dog would follow. She ran to her Aunt's and Uncle's house, only to find the place empty. "Damn, the two are out with the Wests." She realized she couldn't take the time to find where the four were and give them Leona.
"Grandma and Grandpa…" Rae started but paused. No, they had plans today, too. The Kryptonian Island had an event, so Ha-Pri was out – even Kara's newish sister, Samantha Arias, was in meetings for Queen Consolidates all day. "Well, there's one option left." Rae said to her daughter and ran.
…
Frankie Ramon, who was known as Cisco throughout the multiverse, was cleaning the food off his adopted daughter's face. He and Gypsy had adopted a multiverse baby girl who was biologically the daughter of Amelia Allen and a Daxamite named Mik.
Gypsy was getting changed and walked out of the bedroom; they had gotten themselves a new two-bedroom apartment recently, to house them and the baby.
"You know Athena's looking more and more like her biological mom," Frankie said.
"She is," Gyspy said.
"Maybe we should take her, one day, to see a multiverse alternate of her mother," Frankie mused.
"When she's a little older," Gypsy said. "I have to get a bounty…" Before she could finish, there was a Flash in their apartment. Gypsy was holding Leona in a second as Rae stood in front of her.
"Emergency," Rae said, straightening her helmet as Clarky gave a bark. "Be a good seventh-in-line and watch her for a bit," Rae and her dog were out of the apartment as fast as they were in, only leaving Leona in Gyspy's arms. The little girl laughed for a second and then got upset at her mother leaving. Gypsy patted the girls back and then looked at Frankie.
"Seventh in line for what?" Gypsy asked.
"To be guardian of Leona in the event Kara and Rae die," Frankie said, and Gypsy's mouth dropped open. "Yeah, that was my reaction too. You know, we don't have a will." Gypsy gave a blink.
"Who would you want to leave Athena to?" Gypsy asked.
"Rae and Kara," Frankie said, and Gypsy gave a nod.
-New Justice-
Kara flew over Metropolis and almost couldn't believe her eyes.
The person – if you could call it that – was in the middle of Central Park. They were definitely humanoid, but if Kara didn't know better she would think this was an alien. He had purple, mottled skin and was taller than any human she knew. There was a darkness coming out and around him, spreading through the park. The plants in the way seemed to die at its touch. Moreover, the League's powers were doing nothing.
Caitlin's fire disappeared upon contact. Kara, the two Superdogs – Krypto and Dragon – Beppo, and Super Horse's heat vision and freeze breath didn't even scratch the being. Guns and arrows didn't work – not even exploding arrows. Laurel's Canary Cry didn't even seem to bother him, and unfortunately Winn's time manipulation power didn't work. The only power that seemed to affect him at all was Jessica's Green Lantern-like powers and Nora's magic, but only slightly. Tantu's Totem had a minor effect but wasn't as good Jessica's power or Nora's magic.
"White Canary, get anyone without powers on population control!" Kara instructed. The entire League except Rae was here, throwing out weapons and their best attacks, only for this darkness from Eclipso to continue spreading.
"Got it," Sara said, on the back of Super Horse and gave the Kryptonian horse a nudge. The two knew each other well enough now and Kal went the way Sara wanted.
Kara landed in front of Eclipso, punching the ground to make a hole, hoping that would stop this darkness from overtaking the park. It didn't though, as the darkness approached Kara and Kara took steps back to stay out of it. Kara sent heat vision at the shadow, but it didn't do anything as the person it was coming from laughed. Kara turned her eyes to him as she stepped back. The other Kryptonians here joined her – even Chris. Jessica sent more power out, all trying to overpower this man.
Kara felt Rae approach through the bond before she saw the familiar lighting. Kara gave a smile – the energy from the Forces seemed to work the best and Rae knew how to access the Speed Force well. But, besides, Rae's usual lightning came a bright white light.
It surrounded the area, forcing Kara to close her eyes for a moment. When Kara reopened her eyes, Rae was standing in front of them, and she was glowing white. Kara had seen this white glow once before – when a time traveler had accidentally changed the past in a way that killed Rae and was writing her out. It had come from all the Paragons at that time to stabilize Rae until the timeline was fixed.
Rae seemed shocked as she looked at her glowing hand for a moment but then turned to the figure of Eclipso. The darkness that had been spreading across the park was gone – only a small circle around the man itself.
The being seemed surprised as he looked at Rae. Finally, it spoke in a low deep voice that didn't sound human as the words: "what are you…?" came from its mouth.
Post Chapter Note: Ooh, a bit of a cliffhanger there! Our Eclipso event has finally started. I hope you enjoy the start and the references to SuperEarth too. Hehe.
