Summary
This takes place before the first movie. Gobber has taken the teens on an an excersise on a longboat it goes wrong
Start
Hiccup stood at the helm of the longboat they had been at sea for 20 days now. 20 long days cooped up with the other teens, some other Vikings and Gobber right in the middle of Baldurs lake a hotbed for storms. The other Vikings were there purely for if something went wrong. This excersise was meant for the teens to learn how to opperate a longboat.
Hiccup looked up at the sky. There were lots of dark grey clouds forming in front an on their sides. "I don't like the look of those" he said to Alistairr Hofferson who was teaching him how to steer the ship Alistairr looked up his expression turning worried "Gobber we have a problem"He shouted.
Gobber looked up following Alistairrs eyes. "Thors hammer "he muttered "Lad steer us towards it." Hiccup nodded knowing Gobbers intention. Snotlout however did not "What sail towards it you want us dead?" Gobber sighed facepalming "That there is a hurricane forming. we will be safest in its eye " he explained.
Only a few minutes later they were in the thick of it. the sail smashed against the mast resounding in a loud cracking noise as waves twice as high crashes onto the dek. "Get that sail down"Gobber shoutes but it was to late. The mast cracked due to the enormous pressure put on it. The ship immidiatly started leaning to one side. Allistairr grabbes his knife ans startes cutting the ropes holding the mast on. Astrid saw what her father was doing and went to help him.
"We need to get this mast of the ship"Allistairr shouted to the other men. Meanwhile Hiccup handes over the helm to Gobber. After lots of effort and cutting the mast finally slipped of the deck into the water. The ship turned back upright.
"Grab ahold.of something" Gobber shouted as the waves kept crashing into the ship. Hiccup grabbed part of the railing as the ship climbed a rowering wave. "Come on" Gobber muttered however the ship started to fal backwards. There was a loud cracking noise and then a scream Hiccup turned his head and was horrified in what he saw. Astrid was clutching her side which had a large pieve of wood sticking out of it.
Another huge wave crashed onto the ship. Astrid who wasn't holding onto anything Got swepped away. " astrid!" Hiccup shouted Letting go lf the railing running through to Astrid. He manages to grab her hand Right as she was trown over the railing. "Don't you dare let go!" Astrid said as Hiccup held her from falling into the sea.
Hiccup groaned at the strain on his arm "A little help please" he shouted to the others on the ship. Before anyone could do anything a another huge wave crashed onto the ship. This time Hiccup also got swept awah sending both Him and Astrid into the water.
Hiccup hit the water still holding Astrids hand. He looked arround the ship had already been pushed far out due to the waves and wind. "I can't swim" Astrid choked out. Hiccup was trying with all his might to keep them both up. He spotted a large piece of wood grabbing hold of it he firsr dragged Astrid onto the beam. "Keep hold of it" he said as he hoisted himselve on it too.
Hiccup didn't know how long they had been drifting at sea, but suddenly woke up on something soft. He immediately looked down and shrank back, because he was lying on Astrid. He quickly stood up, red with shame.
His embarresment quickly turnes to worry however he couldn't see Astrid breathing. He dropped to knees next to her and started performing chesg compressions. periodically breathing into her mouth. After a couple seconds Astrid finally coughed sea water up. Hiccup sighed with relief. He looked over Astrids body his gaze falling on the large red mark in her side from where the wood has stabbed her. Without thinking about it he lifted Astrids shirt to look at the wound. It was large but luckily not that deep. Hiccup took his own shirt of ripping it into strips to tie arround Astrids waist to keep pressure on the wound.
After securing the wound he looked arround him. he saw a cave in the cliff next to the beach a little more inward. Hiccup picked Astrid up bridal style and carried her into the cave. He quickly gathered firewood and moss. with the moss he created a bed for Astrid.
