Colors of the Rainbow

Nico and Will have only ever seen the world in the colors of black and white. They can only see the colors that make up the world when they see their soulmates for the first time. They don't have much hope they will ever find their match. But what happens when Nico is attacked and sent to the hospital where Will works? Read to find out. By: Solangelo13 Rated T; I don't own.

1. Intro Nico

Solangelo13 here with a Soulmate AU. They are all mortal and adults. The first chapters will be introductions and therefore short. Enjoy!

Nico looked at the black and white screen in his friend's black and white apartment that was in the black and white city in the black and white world, but it was only black and white to him. Only him out of his friends anyway. There were many people like him that only saw black and white, but the thing is they are all younger than him.

The reason Nico sees everything in only these two colors is because he has not met his soulmate yet. Anyone who has a soulmate usually stops seeing the world like an old 40's film at 25 or under. Nico is 29. Supposedly the first time you see your soulmate is the time when you can finally see all the colors of the rainbow for the first time.

Percy and Annabeth saw color when they met on the first day of 7th grade when they started going to the same middle school after going to different elementary schools. Jason and Piper had the same story, but they met on the first day of high school instead. Leo met his soulmate 7 years ago when he went on a trip to another country in the summer and met Calypso, who has since immigrated to the United States. Then of course there is Nico's half-sister Hazel, who never remembered not seeing color, as her and her soulmate Frank went to the same day care when they were both less than 1 year old.

Nico has come to the conclusion that he will never meet his soulmate, and he tries to tell himself that that is fine with him. He doesn't really care if he ever sees color. His parents never did. They were one of the rare cases that they either never met their soulmates, or they just didn't have them. Nico's sister Bianca was an example of what happens if one of the soulmates dies after they have already met and seen color. See, Nico's mom died of cancer when he was only 4 years old. Bianca was 12 when she died, and she had met her soulmate in 5th grade. The scary part of having a soulmate is that if they die, you will go too less than a month later. No one really knows how it works exactly, but your heart just sort of stops after you lose your other half. Bianca's Soulmate was a girl named Zoe. When Bianca died after getting killed, Zoe died 2 weeks, 4 days, 3 hours, and 12 minutes after.

The reason Bianca was killed is because she had a soulmate that was the same gender as her, and that is not okay where Nico lives. The scary thing is, you don't even know what gender your soulmate is until you see them. You can never feel attraction to anyone else other than the person made for you, so how could you know? It is always assumed that you will get someone of the same gender though, of course.

Anyway, Nico sits on the black and white floor of Piper and Jason's apartment with all his other friends, trying not to think about how the black rug he sits on is blue to everyone else, or how the pictures on the screen playing the movie are full of colors to everyone but him, or how the plants in the window are supposed to be green, whatever green looks like, or any of the other colors he misses out on every day of his life.
