Chapter 11- Finding The Warhead Storage Facility
Roy spoke with Harry the morning after the mission to the harbour occupied by Gene's men regarding the mission of the day. "Harry, about yesterday, do you trust this 'Ghost' person?"
"I don't know. He did tell us about what kind of weapon we're dealing with and he has given us a few leads to follow up on too." Harry replied.
"We can't deny that. The important question is: can we trust those leads?" Roy asked questioningly.
"Maybe. Maybe not. The way I see it, I don't think we have much of a choice." Harry answered.
Roy shook his head. "We, and I mean Kurt and his spy teams, have found an enemy security base and it's quite possibly an important one. We'll give you the spy teams' report on the base just before you depart. Needless to say, if our assumptions are correct, then you should be able to find a map to the Warhead Storage Facility there."
Harry nodded. "We'll find out, won't we?"
Harry found himself carefully walking around the newly discovered Security base. He had brought about a whole platoon of soldiers with him but, after surveying the area, he chose to infiltrate the base solo and only call on his men if he desperately needed back up.
The Security Base was an imposing sight. It had tall concrete towers that overlooked the immediate area and there were deep trenches that were capable of protecting and obscuring those in them. The trenches also led to other areas of the base, areas hidden from sight unless one was standing directly on top of the entrance or if one knew the base well enough. On top of it's purpose of providing security for the eastern side of the peninsula, based on what he had read, it was also an important supply hub.
Harry carefully walked through the Security Base, walking through the trench system, despite the risks of using the trenches. He had no clue where he was supposed to look, he only knew what he was looking for. He looked in every little corner and every little nook and cranny for the map to the Warhead Storage Facility, only knocking out guards who were in his way or otherwise threatened his mission with stunning spells and tranquilliser darts. Unfortunately for him, the trench system proved to be a dead end as far as the map was concerned. This meant he had to search the towers and huts for the important map.
Harry immediately searched the huts for the map to the Warhead Storage Facility and, whilst he found plenty of supplies, he couldn't find the map in any of the huts. He then searched the main tower. It was bland, grey... very depressing. He entered an office, closed the door behind him and looked around the solitary desk within and, whilst there was nothing of note in or on the desk itself, by some nearby shelves, a small red box laid on the floor. Curious as to its contents, Harry picked up the box and lifted off the lid. "Jackpot!" He exclaimed rather happily as he found the map then examined some accompanying documents. "... And then some?" He added, his curiosity evident.
The door to the office opened again and a guard barely stepped inside when he noticed Harry. "What the..." The guard didn't get a chance to sound the alarm as Harry quickly and silently threw a stunning spell at the surprised guard, knocking him out instantly. Not wanting to chance it himself any further, Harry returned to the truck where his group of soldiers were gathered.
Harry returned to the truck and his soldiers ran out of their hiding places to hear from him. He smiled and showed them the box containing the map to the Warhead Storage Facility, immediately hearing quiet cheers as none of them wanted to alert the guards.
"Right... I've knocked out quite a few of the guards. If you want to capture them or scavenge any supplies, you're free to do so but you go in teams of four or six. If the alarm gets raised, you all finish what you're doing and return to the truck immediately. As it stands, we'll have plenty of chances to come back here to steal supplies or do some recruitment."
"Yes Boss!" They said quietly at the same time before starting to run around the Security Base. The few remaining guards made their patrols, blissfully unaware of the rampant infiltration of the base. Harry's little group of soldiers took anything that could be moved by hand, especially supplies and recruits. Anything that couldn't be moved by hand was left behind for a later time but a fair few supplies were taken from the base, mainly rations, medical kits and small arms ammunition as well as some small arms.
Eventually, a stray glance by a guard caught Harry's soldiers in the open and Harry and his soldiers beat a hasty retreat as the alarm was sounded, determined not to be surrounded by any enemy reinforcements. The guards who weren't taken by Harry and his band of soldiers felt embarrassed as they were oblivious to the infiltration until far too late.
Back at their harbour base on the western side of the peninsula, Harry walked up to Roy and Kurt in the Command Centre, carrying the very important box containing the map to the Warhead Storage Facility and several other documents. "I've got you a present , Kurt. I'm sure you make something out of these." Harry said confidently as he threw the box onto the table in front of Kurt and Roy.
Kurt opened the box and immediately came across the map for the Warhead Storage Facility. He looked carefully for about half a minute, his face betraying no emotion, until he put the map down and smiled. "Oh yeah, I can do something with this." Kurt then gave a cursory examination of the other documents and his smile faded. "What do you make of them, Harry?"
"I'm not entirely sure but it could be the case they're preparing to attack." Harry replied after a moment of thinking about it.
"I agree. I think the question we have to ask ourselves is, are they going to attack our bases with a major attack or are they going to wait for us to make the first move?" Kurt asked.
"We can't exactly afford to stop what we're doing now. We've got to stop Gene from achieving his goal. It could be a deception to get us to hesitate?" Roy pointed out.
"It could be..." Kurt acknowledged. "We can't afford to take the chance though. We know he has his support. For the time being , we're on our own."
Harry nodded grimly, acknowledging the reality of the situation as it stood and began issuing on the spot instructions. "We need to fortify our positions. Roy, you fortify this base. Kurt, make your way to our base at the ruined castle and fortify our positions there. When Ivan, Natalia and Johnathan return from their missions, let them know about the situation." Harry then began walking out of the Command Centre, telling Roy and Kurt, "I'm going for a lie down for a couple of hours." Before he left the Command Centre, he gave an additional instruction to Roy and Kurt, "Tell John that he's to send some of his medical team with Kurt and he is to expect casualties."
"It's going to be a long few days..." Roy remarked darkly as Kurt began packing up anything he thought could be useful, wondering what the coming days would be like.
A/N- Well... not quite a year this time between updates for this story. Still quite lengthy though. In the last year, I finished off the first instalment of Orc Empire I and began the next one. I also pumped out more chapters of Harry Potter and All The Skywalker Chicks, where it's been recently pointed out to me that there's at least one potential continuity error, which I will dive into further when I next update that story. I also started watching Young Justice on YouTube and got obsessed with that, then I started another story in Harry Potter: Phantom Justice, which is a primarily HP/YJ crossover. I never mean to neglect this story as it's often on my mind but I do also lose track sometimes. So many, many apologies for keeping you waiting and many thanks for bearing with me.
Until next time, I hope you have enjoyed the chapter and please review.
