The first Day terror
Chapter 1
…
''Ow… So bright…'' Mateo slowly started opening his eyes, then closing them again, then opening them again. He tried repeating the thing again, then again, again, again…
The boy's eyes started to get used to the light. Mateo realized that he was strapped to some red-ish mechanism that looked similar to the Edison ray, maybe more upgraded. Then he noticed that it wasn't light at all, the lights weren't turned on, there weren't any windows, pitch black. And he thought it was bright.
Mateo tried to get up, but to no avail, something heavy was laying on him; he didn't really notice before since, you know, waking up in an unrecognizable location, not really remembering anything and feeling numb everywhere – dealing with those was his first priority.
Then, suddenly, a door appeared on one of the completely smooth walls. Some actual light shone in and, sure, Mateo was relieved to see some kind of light, but then again. It hurt. Badly.
"OOOOWWW! MY EYES! THEY BURN! CLOSE THE DOOR!" The door closed immediately. Mateo's eyes burned like someone fired a flamethrower right into his eyes. Man, he thought he was going to go blind.
"I apologise for the sudden intrusion, agent Garcia." It was the voice of a woman, a really collected rule-stickler woman.
"Wait a minute… 'Agent Garcia?'..." Mateo thought. Only she calls me that.
"Ms. Strick- I mean, Chief Inspector? What am I doing here? Where is everyone else? Where am I? What happened- Why… Are you here?" The boy tried to stand up and take up on the defensive, but it took a lot more out of him than expected.
"Do not strain yourself. Your body is still recovering. And to tell you where you are – you are in the Night Bereau's medical bay, sector A1 –G8 to be exact. Everyone else is save and sound, you are the one that received the most damage from the mission. The mission was quite simple, but… There was… An ambush. It would appear that you ran away as bait for the Night terrors to protect everyone. While you were running from them, agent Oswald called for reinforcements, but to our surprise… Most of them were already gone, destroyed. And you were soon to be one of them, so we took you to the medical bay to protect and heal you until your condition got better."
"So that's why my body's so heavy…And cold too-" Then Agent Strick interrupted his thoughts: "Well, it's good to see your alive, at least. But do you mind explaining: why did you run off instead of staying and fighting the Night terrors with your team?
"…I didn't have a choice. We were in an area where dreamcrafting didn't work and…" The Inspector started looking suspicious. "What do you mean? Dreamcrafting works everywhere. And if it truly didn't work, you shoud've turned into a Night terror before agent Oswald called reinforcements. What you're saying makes no sense, tell me the truth, agent Garcia."
"That's because you weren't there. You didn't see the things I saw…No one did. No one saw the Day terror. No one saw Lunia. No one saw them."
"Lunia?" Strick started feeling uneasy. "Them? Day terror? Only Night terrors exist, Garcia. Stop lying.
"Fine, I'll tell you what happened, but do you want everything from the start or what happened in the mission?"
