"Have you ever heard of Mount Rageous?" Willow asked her brother Branch as she read her letter. The two were in the bunker before they started their day.
"Nope," Branch shook his head and continued drinking his coffee. "Where's that?"
"It's somewhere past Vacay Island, I think," Willow shrugged. "I just got a letter from them asking if I'd go up there and talk with their Troll representative. There is something about having more Trolls move in and they want help making the place more Troll-friendly. It's all a bit mysterious, isn't it?"
Branch looked up, his brow furrowed with concern. "We don't know anything about these guys, though. Are you sure it's a safe idea to meet up with them?"
"Not totally," Willow admitted, her smile sheepish. "But Poppy was saying we needed to trust in the good in people more, and she's not wrong. I think I should go." She gave her brother a reassuring smile. "Don't worry. I'll bring my communicator and pack my machete and crossbow so I can get out if there is something dangerous about all of this."
Branch frowned but nodded. "I don't like it, but at least you have a plan." He looked at her. "When are you leaving?"
"Tomorrow," Willow decided. "I'll stop by Vacay Island for date night and take off for Mount Rageous the next day."
Willow spent the day telling Poppy about her plans. Poppy, naturally, was thrilled at the idea of new Troll friends and another place to party. "I'm so excited for you, Willow! I'll help you pack and get ready for the journey," she insisted, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
When Willow was about to take off, the Snack Pack, Poppy, and her brother were there to see her off. "Take care of yourself, okay, sis?" Branch requested, a worried look still on his face.
Willow smiled and hugged her brother. "Don't worry so much, Branch. I'll only be gone a week, two tops. And I'll call you on Poppy's communicator when I get to Mount Rageous. I'll see you all later!" She shouted as she climbed the caterbus.
Poppy smiled and stood beside Branch as he waved at his little sister. "It'll be okay, Branchifer," she said, placing a comforting arm around his shoulders. She's tough and can take care of herself."
"Yeah," Branch agreed nervously. "She can handle anything." He ran a hand through his hair and sighed. "So why do I feel like something awful is going to happen?"
"Alright, Peachfuzz," a voice said on the television. A three-year-old was sitting at the kitchen table next to a baby in a highchair. Tell the camera who you have with you."
"This is Willow," Baby Branch smiled at the camera and pointed at his little sister. "It's her birthday today!" Little Willow smiled and waved at the camera before returning to her pancakes. "What do you want to do today, Willow? It's your day, so we'll do whatever you want."
Little Willow stared at her big brother before smiling widely. "Kismet!"
"You want to hang out with my band?" Branch asked, excited. "Alright!" He looked at their grandma who stood behind the camera. "Can we go see the guys, Grandma? I promise we'll take care of Willow."
Their grandma laughed behind the camera. "I don't see why not. You two go have fun." The two children cheered before the camera cut off.
Branch smiled sadly and took the tape out of the old television. Two months. That's how long it had been since Willow had left for her ambassador trip. She had called when she made it to Mount Rageous, but they hadn't heard from her since. The uncertainty of her fate was like a heavy cloud hanging over them, casting a shadow of doubt and fear.
Branch grew concerned after the first week ended, and they hadn't heard from her. By the end of the second week, he had Poppy call her with no success. They wrote a letter to Mount Rageous to see what was happening, but nobody ever wrote back. Barb and Trollex were also worried since they hadn't heard from her either. At the end of the third week, the rest of the tribes got involved in searching for her.
A few of the Tribal leaders went up to Mount Rageous itself and tried to talk to the leaders. They told them point-blank they had no Troll representative, and nobody sent a letter asking for a Troll's help, so they had to be mistaken.
It was then that Barb and Trollex got the bounty hunters involved. They had spent the last month searching everywhere for Willow with no success. They swore they wouldn't stop until Willow was found. Branch wanted to look, too, but Poppy convinced him he needed to stay. "I've already lost my best friend," She said, holding his arm. "What if whatever took her took you too? I can't lose you. They'll find her, and you'll be here when they do."
So he waited, helping his friend Gristle prepare for his wedding. Two months later, he was still waiting. The royal Bergen wedding would start soon, and he was watching old videos of him and Willow, memories of their shared past flooding back. He pulled another tape out and put it in the television. A blurry image of Willow appeared on the screen before it came into focus, stirring up a whirlwind of emotions in Branch.
"Say hi, Starlight," Grandma Rosiepuff said from behind the camera.
A two-year-old Willow smiled and waved at the camera. "Hi, Camera People!" She twirled around in her dress. "I'm a fairy!" She ran closer to her camera. "We're gonna go watch my brother practice later. He's in a band. You wanna come watch him practice with us?"
"I don't think your brother wants to be filmed practicing," Grandma warned when Willow turned the camera to her.
"But this is for our big brothers," Willow insisted. "They'll want to see what a good job he's doing."
"Alright," Grandma laughed with a shake of her head. "Just be careful with that camera."
"Yay!" Willow shouted, excited before running to the door. The video blurred when she tripped over her feet and dropped the camera. "Sorry, Grandma."
Branch chuckled as he watched his grandma help Willow up, not noticing Poppy walk up behind him. "Hey, Branchifer," she smiled and hugged him. "Is that a baby Willow on the screen?" She cooed at the video when Branch nodded with a smile. "She's so little!" She rested her head on Branch's shoulder. "I know you must miss her a lot."
"She should be here," Branch sighed, frustrated. "She worked so hard on this wedding and can't even be here to appreciate it. And we don't have any idea where she might be. Everyone's looked everywhere."
Poppy sighed and nodded. "Two months is more than long enough," she agreed. "After the wedding, we'll pack up and go find her." She gave him what she hoped was a reassuring smile. "She's going to be okay. We'll find her, and whatever condition she's in, we'll make sure she heals from it."
Branch smiled sadly and hugged his girlfriend. "Thank you." He pulled away from her and looked at the clock. "Speaking of the wedding, we should get those two crazy kids married. What do you say?"
Poppy smiled and held his hand as they walked out of Branch's grandma's pod. "Let's do this."
The wedding was beautiful, even when one of the Bergens handed Branch a small note saying it was from the Yodelers. "What's it say?" Poppy whispered as the ceremony continued.
"Hickory wants us to meet him at the tree after the ceremony," Branch whispered as he read the note. "Says he has someone we need to talk to."
"We'll go right after the ceremony," Poppy promised. "I can miss the reception; Bridget will understand." She gave a hopeful smile. "Maybe it's good news about Willow."
"Yeah," Branch smiled hopefully. "Maybe."
When the wedding ended, Branch and Poppy walked to the Troll Tree. "Dang it, Hickory!" A voice shouted at the base of the tree. "I don't care about some Bergen Wedding! I have to talk to my brother."
Branch shook his head in disbelief as he recognized the voice. Twenty-six years later, that voice hadn't changed. "No. It can't be."
"I know, Schatz," Hickory could be heard, trying to soothe the agitated Troll. "But he'll be here soon. You have to wait."
Poppy chose that moment to make her presence known. "What's going on, Hickory? Branch said you have news?"
Hickory sighed in relief. "Ja, I have news." He turned to the Troll he was standing beside. "Queen Poppy, I'd like to introduce you to my boyfriend, John Dory. John, this is Queen Poppy and-"
"Baby Branch!" John Dory shouted and ran up to him. "Look at you. You got so big."
"What are you doing here?" Branch hissed, frustrated.
"I bet I can still pick you up." John Dory laughed and tried to lift him. "Come on. Ooh, you got heavy." He struggled as Branch fought to get down. "Aah! There goes my back. Oh, charley horse. Two charley horses."
"Hey!" Poppy demanded, frustrated. "You put my boyfriend down now!" She frowned and crossed her arms as she looked at Hickory. "Hickory, I know this is your boyfriend, but we don't have time for this. Who is this guy, and what does he want?"
"Sorry, Your Highness," John Dory smiled sheepishly and put Branch down before holding out his hand. "I'm John Dory. Branch's brother."
"Correction," Branch glared from behind Poppy. "Used to be my brother. Not anymore."
"You have a brother?" Poppy asked, surprised, looking at Branch. "You didn't tell me that."
"Kind of hard to tell you about someone that was never around," Branch scoffed. "He's not our brother. He stopped being my brother when he left."
Poppy sighed and turned to John Dory. "I'm sorry I was so rude earlier. I've just never met anyone from Branch and Willow's family." She chuckled sheepishly. "I'm sure Willow would have been thrilled to see you, but she's not here now." She narrowed her eyes. "Wait, I know you. You're the guy from BroZone!" Her face brightened, and she looked at Branch. "Your brother's from BroZone? They were like my favorite band growing up." Her face fell. "But that means all of the BroZone bros are your bros, too." She looked at John Dory and frowned. "Where did you all go?"
"They abandoned us after a failed concert," Branch crossed his arms. "They walked out on us and never came back. Willow hadn't even hatched yet when they left."
"That's not fair, Branch," John Dory protested. "I did come back, but no one was there. It wasn't until I heard about you saving the world from the rock apocalypse that I realized you were still alive."
"Oh, that's so sweet," Branch rolled his eyes. "He realized we were still alive. Twenty-six years too late!"
Poppy smiled and pulled Branch away. "Hi, sorry. He's stressed." She faced Branch once they got further away. "Hey," she said softly. "I know there's a lot of feelings going on right now, but we need to focus. Hickory wouldn't have brought him up here if it was just to reunite you. He may know something."
"Or maybe he lied to his boyfriend and said he knows something and is just here because he needs something," Branch said, glaring in his brother's direction.
"That's not true," Poppy smiled. "He's your brother."
"Branch," John Dory smiled. "I'm gonna be straight with you. I need something."
"Come on, man, I'm trying here," Poppy deadpanned as Branch gestured to him with an unamused expression.
"It's Floyd," John Dory frowned. "He's in danger, man." He told his little brother and his brother's girlfriend about how he found Floyd and the danger he was in. "And the only thing that can break a diamond prison is the perfect family harmony," he finished, looking desperately at Branch. "I need your help."
Branch sighed and looked at John Dory. "I can't help you. It's not that I don't want to help Floyd, I do," he hurried to say at John Dory's face. "But Willow is lost. We haven't seen her in two months, and I have to find her. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to lose my baby sister by following the brothers who left us all those years ago."
Poppy sighed and looked at John Dory. "Normally, I'd argue about this, but Branch is right. We have to find Willow. Maybe when we find her, we'll be able to help. But until then, I'm sorry. We can't help you."
"Don't tell Branch I'm here," John Dory could hear his little sister's warning. "Or he'll come up here and put himself in danger just to get me out. I don't want him anywhere near this place. You'll have to do the harmony without him."
While he hoped mentioning Floyd would be enough to convince Branch to join, John Dory realized he would have to tell him the rest. "She's going to kill me for this," he muttered before facing his little brother again. "Alright, I didn't want to tell you this because she explicitly told me not to, but I don't have any other choice. Willow is there with Floyd. She's trapped in a diamond bottle, too." He held out a picture of Willow and Floyd in the diamond bottles. Willow was standing in the purple bottle and glaring at the camera. Even in a picture, Willow looked rough. She was clinging to her ribs and leaning against the bottle she was in. "I didn't think you'd believe me without some kind of proof."
Branch glared at his oldest brother and grabbed the picture out of his hand to look at it. Poppy stood beside him and gasped. "It is Willow," she smiled, relieved. "At least we know where she is now."
"We also know she's in danger," Branch frowned and looked at John Dory, determined. "Let's get the others." He turned to Hickory and nodded. "Thanks for bringing John Dory here. We can take care of the rest."
"If you want to stay in TrollsTopia while we go on this journey, you're more than welcome to," Poppy smiled warmly at the bounty hunter. "I imagine you're a bit tired from all the traveling."
"I'll do just that," Hickory smiled. "I'll let the others know they can stop looking, too." He hugged his boyfriend. "I'll be right here for when you bring your siblings back. Be careful, okay?"
"I will," John Dory smiled before looking at his little brother and giving a sharp whistle. The ground rumbled, and out popped an armadillo bus. "Meet Rhonda. She's going to be our ride."
Branch said nothing while Poppy squealed about how cute the bus was before they all climbed in. "Hold on, Willow," he muttered, staring out the bus window. "We're coming to get you."
Willow's trapped at Mount Rageous! Next chapter will be in Willow's point of view and we'll get to see what she's been up to. And she gets to talk to Floyd! So at least they're not alone, right? See you all next time!
