Chapter Six - Investigation Report One

[[Timeline 2 / November 5, 2020 - Paradise, Somewhere in North America]]
—
Today I will be giving the council a report about my mission to watch over Cthullu's priestess, Ninomae Ina'nis.
They reside in the Universe's Courthouse, located somewhere in the continent of North America. To be honest, I have no idea where it is. Why? Because I was teleported here suddenly, while still in my nightwear.
"I knew it was today, but I didn't know it would be know." I say to myself, letting out a sigh of reluctant acceptance.
Seeing no other option, I open the doors to the Courthouse and walk inside. Entering, I see an elaborate interior, similar to a church. The ceiling is made of glass, allowing sunlight to shine into the room. A giant pair of doors stand across me, leading to the throne room.
As I head to the entrance of the throne room, I see someone else going in the same direction.
[ Shiori Novella - Council's secretary and archiver of history ]
"Oh, hey. You must be Amelia Watson." The girl says, waving with one hand and holding a stack of papers on the other. "Yeah that's me. I'm here to speak to the council." I say, walking with her to the doors. "Yeah, I'll be joining you in speaking to them today." She says, looking through and sorting her papers. "Oh, nice to meet you..." I stall out, waiting for her to tell me her name. "Shiori, Shiori Novella." She says, reaching out her hand. "Nice to meet you Shiori." I say, giving her a firm handshake. "Nice to meet you Amelia. I really like your style, it's very business casual." She says, looking up and down at my bedroom attire. "This? No! I was teleported like this!" I shout, waving my hands in embarrassment. "Sure, sure, and I teleported here in my full attire." Shiori says sarcastically, using her free hand to point at her clothes. "No! I'm serious! I-" I shout trying to explain. "Alright, I believe you, let's just get to work." Shiori interrupts, opening the large doors to the throne room.
We walk inside to see the council in their looming podiums, waiting for us patiently. However, when Baelz and Sana look at me, they suddenly burst into laughter. "Did you enjoy my express shipping, Watson?" Sana says, giggling to herself. "So you guys are the ones who did this!" I shout at the two mischievous gods. "I'm sorry about them Amelia, they can get a bit a little troublesome when they're bored, and... they're bored all the time." Fauna says, looking at the two dejectedly.
"So much for them. We don't have much time." Kronii says. "How has your mission progressed Amelia, has Ina given any information on Cthullu's revival?" Kronii asks, taking on an imposing stance.
"Ina hasn't shown any suspicious behaviour at all, and when asked, she showed no knowledge on Cthullu's revival or any desire to make it happen." I explain. Ina hasn't acted weird or suspicious at all the whole time I knew her. She's been generally chill and nice, the opposite of someone trying to destroy the world. "So what are you saying? The priestess won't be the one to revive Cthullu?" Mumei asks, sounding unsure. "I'm not saying that's the case, but we can't rule out the possibility that someone else revived Cthullu." I say, looking at Mumei. "I would like to see the prophecy. Maybe there's some evidence that could prove someone else's involvement." I give Mumei a request and she replies with an uninterested look. "Sure, but there's nothing there that we haven't told you." Mumei says, gesturing to Shiori.
"Here ya go." Shiori hands me an extremely aged piece of paper, looking to be at least a hundred years old, though I wouldn't doubt if it was older. I take a look at the prophecy written on the page.
"On the latter months of the year 2021 the stars will align, allowing the ancient Cthullu to awaken, its priestess's body being the vessel to hold its physical form."
Mumei was right, there's nothing here I've that never hear about. And there's nothing here that would indicate how Cthullu would be awakened, just when and who would be their vessel. This prophecy is extremely short, it's hard to extract information from this.
I trace my finger asking the page, looking at it once again.
"On the latter months? This prophecy doesn't have an exact date?" I look up from the paper and ask. "The Laplace demon can't actually see into the future." Fauna explains. "It just uses it's vast knowledge of atoms to create predictions using the laws of determinism. But even though it's predictions aren't always exact, they are always correct." Fauna continues.
The Laplace demon is always correct. So I can trust this prediction to come true. Looking closer at the prediction, I notice a potentially important detail, but first, I'll need information.
"What are the requirements for Chtullu's awakening?" I ask the council. "The stars need to be aligned in a certain way, and a suitable host must hear the Ancient One's call. Once these requirements are met, Cthullu is able to awaken and cross into our world" Fauna responds. The Ancient One's call is interesting, but there's a detail that sticks out.
"The stars need to be in a certain alignment?" I ask, turning to Fauna. "That's right, if the stars aren't aligned properly, then Cthullu's awakening is impossible." Fauna explains. "And Sana, can you change the orientation of the stars?" I ask, turning to Sana. "I can, I have dominion over all space after all. Though, I can't do it without a proper reason." Sana says. "Would Cthullu's awakening be a proper reason?" I ask. "Of course!" Sana says like it's obvious. "Then why didn't you do it?" I say, looking at Sana seriously.
"I see." Kronii says, slightly grabbing her chin. "If Cthullu needed the stars to align in a certain way, why didn't Sana offset them and prevent Cthullu's revival?" Kronii asks. "Maybe she just forgot." Baelz jokes. "Or maybe someone prevented her from doing so." I propose. "That would make sense. But how would they do something like that." Kronii ponders. "Killing me would be the only way to make something like that happen." Sana says, unfazed by the prospect of her own death. "Yes, that means that someone killed her on the day of Cthullu's revival." Kronii says, her hand still on her chin. "Then why don't we just offset the position of the stars now to avoid the risk of Sana dying before she could change them?" I ask Kronii. "No, the stars play an important part in the flow of the universe. If I move them now, the order of the universe will be disrupted for months." Sana answers.
Shoot, I was going to propose changing the stars a week or month from Cthullu's revival, but we don't even know when that is.
"Then I have a new mission for you Amelia. Find out who kills Sana, and report them to us." Kronii commands. "Alright." I accept, glad to know that Ina might not be involved in Cthullu's revival. "Although, who would even be strong enough to kill Sana in the first place?" I ask, causing everyone to think.
"Amelia Watson, do you wanna know why I'm called the 'Anti-Council'?" Baelz says with an uncharacteristic seriousness. "And why is that?" I ask, curious about her sudden serious demeanour.
Kronii gives a disapproving look, but does nothing, allowing Baelz to speak
Baelz clears her throat and begins to speak. "At the beginning of time there were three members of the council. Ouro Kronii, god of time, Tsukumo Sana, god of space, and the Laplace demon, Laplus Darkness, god of knowledge. For thousands of years, they lived in harmony with each other, protecting the order of the universe. However, one day the arrogant Laplace demon decided that she would overthrow the council, and rule the universe herself. She attacked the gods of space and time and nearly killed the two completely helpless gods. But before their physical bodies were destroyed, the creator had given life to a powerful, beautiful, amazing, perfect, girl. She was the god of chaos, unpredictable. The direct opposite of the god of knowledge who could predict everything. The god of chaos defeated the Laplace demon and sealed away her [true] form. Turning her into the tiny, little, itty-bitty Laplus Darkness. The creator then appointed the god of chaos, the 'Anti-Council', to be the leader of the council so that no member would ever dare to challenge the council again, lest they want to feel the wrath of the Chaos god, Hakos Baelz! And ever since then, the council has only known peace, and they all lived happily ever after." Bae finished recounting her story with a bow.
*clap* *clap*
Sana gives Baelz a standing ovation. She's the only one who does so.
"So what I learned from this story is, that you're the number one suspect Baelz." I say, giving her a distrusting look. "What!? No! You're supposed to learn that Laplus Darkness is the Laplace demon, and that means that she could definitely kill Sana." Baelz shouts, standing up from her podium. "Well, you just said that she was sealed away so... not much she can do now." I say sarcasticly to Baelz. Opposing her out of frustration for the prank she pulled on me this morning. Though, it is true that she is a suspect, I'll have to investigate her soon. "Well, what if someone unsealed her true form!?" Baelz suggests, trying to protect her innocence. "But Bae, you said that the Laplace Demon can only be unsealed using that key hanging on your neck." Mumei says, pointing to the aforementioned key. "Oh, hehe, you're right." Baelz says, scratching the back of her head.
"Alright, we have our main suspects then." Kronii says, clapping to get our attention. "Anyone from the council has the ability to kill Sana, but Bae is the number one suspect." Kronii says and Baelz sticks out her tongue in response. "And the Laplace demon could be unsealed, making her a suspect aswell." Kronii says and I nod my head in agreement. "I'll monitor the council, and you'll keep track of Laplus Darkness and any other potential suspects." Kronii commands. "Alright, I'll keep my eyes out. And I'll continue to monitor Ina as well." I tell Kronii determinedly.
"Great, then you're dismissed. Thank you for your work." Kronii says, and gives me a little wave goodbye. I say my goodbyes to her and the rest of the council, then head outside with Shiori.
"I know some more suspects, Amelia." Shiori says, a smirk on her face. "Really? Who?" I stop and ask.
"Two years ago, four girls were imprisoned in 'the cell' for staging a coup against the council. The power of those four girls combined could probably be enough to kill Sana." Shiori explained, and then continued to walk. "What are the chances of these girls escaping?" I ask. "It's not likely, but... it's not a zero percent chance." Shiori says with a playful tone. "I see..." I say as I keep a mental note on both the prisoners and Shiori's playful demeanour when talking about them. "Well, I gotta go now, got some business to do. Bye Amelia, It was nice to meet you." Shiori waves goodbye as she walked towards a corridor. "Bye Shiori, it was nice to meet you too." I say as I wave goodbye to my new friend.
After saying goodbye to Shiori, I walk towards the large door that I entered from and swing them open walking out onto the green grass of the island Paradise. I can see why it's called Paradise. It's really beautiful, green grass next to clear blue sea, it's quite scenic.
However, it's about time I say goodbye to this beautiful island and go home. Wait, how am I supposed to get home?
