Chapter 7
The Gospel of a New Beginning
"Anima..." Kizuna muttered under his breath.
Anima leaned down over her victim, observing Mado as he was clutching his right shoulder. Anima raised her head, letting out a painful moan as blood seeps from its eye like a tear. The very atmosphere around Anima screamed death and suffering, and the smell of blood was added to the atmosphere.
Kizuna saw Amon get up, startled by the ear-piercing shriek. He looked at his partner, who was lying on the ground, screaming in agonizing pain.
"M-Ma... MADO-SAN!" Amon cried. The investigator grabbed his quinque, the black hammer, and rushed to Mado's side. "Speak to me, Mado! Speak to me!"
Kizuna's fear ran high as his adrenaline was shooting into overdrive. He got up. "GET AWAY!"
Amon looked at Kizuna, outraged at the boy's exclamation. But then he noticed the fear of God in the boy's eyes and turned around and became aghast and pale.
"What the hell?" Amon asked. He looked at Mado, who was looking at Anima, and for the first time, he saw terror in his partner's eyes. Amon pulled out a pistol and fired off a few shots. Anima growled and hissed before shrieking at him.
"Stop! Your bullets won't work!" Kizuna said. "That thing is an Eikon!"
Amon tried to get Mado back up on his feet, black chains sprouted from beneath Anima as she let out another shriek. The chains start flailing around like whips. One of those chains smacks Amon, sending him and Mado flying. He saw the Eikon twist its body to look at the two men, bloodied and broken to the point of no return. Anima lets off another screech as light shines in its blood-soaked eye.
"STOP!" Kizuna yelled as he cast a Blizzard spell.
The icy projectile hit Anima in the back of the head just before the flash came, causing Anima to miss her shot. The road off to the right was blasted to kingdom come. Anima twists her body again, looking upon the boy with animosity, but with no killing intent. Blood drips from its eye socket.
"Kizuna-chan!" He could hear Ryouko's voice calling to him. He turned to see the woman get up.
"Don't move! Stay there!" Kizuna said.
"But—!"
"I SAID DON'T MOVE!" He looked back at Anima. His legs shook as he looked upon the Eikon and tried to steel himself.
"That is enough, Anima," A voice called out.
Kizuna heard the voice coming further behind him. The Eikon stood upright, looking down at Kizuna before shifting her gaze. Kizuna looks behind himself...
... to see his mother holding a crystal in her hand.
"Mom?" He looked at her eyes, only to see a silent fury behind those eyes.
"Am I the one who summoned Anima? Yes, I am the one who called her forth," Eva said. "She and I have made a pact the day after your father's funeral. I am her Dominant, her summoner, her lord and master."
"D-Dominant?" Kizuna asked himself.
Eva walked past Ryouko and went over to Kizuna. She had a menacing aura that was nearly suffocating. He couldn't sense anything but this enormous pressure weighing him down. He looked at the crystal and returned to Anima before refocusing on his mother. She held her keyblade tightly, almost like a quiet furiousness had taken hold of her. He had never seen his mother like this. This side of her felt so alien to him. It was almost as if she were a completely different person.
The silence broke as she looked down at him and spoke.
"Why are you trying to protect them?" She asked.
"Please, Eva-san-"
Eva turned to face her direction. "I want to hear it from my son," She said with a commanding voice. She looked back at Kizuna, the boy seemingly breathless.
He quickly took a breath before speaking his mind. "Mom... look, I already fought them trying to protect Mrs. Fueguchi and-"
"One of them had the gall to dig up her husband's grave," Eva said.
Kizuna took a step back. He looked at the two men. Amon was wrapping up Mado's wound with whatever he could use to make a makeshift tourniquet and bandages to dress the wound and stop the bleeding, leaving him without a jacket. Amon looked back at Kizuna, seeing the shocked and dismayed look on the boy's face.
"You... dug up Mr. Fueguchi's grave?" Kizuna asked.
At that point, Hinami rushed over to Ryouko, with Kaneki following after her. Ryouko instinctively put Hinami behind her. Amon looked at Hinami, only for the girl to retreat behind Ryouko. The man looked at Kizuna. The boy had a stare that stretched for miles.
Amon slowly got up, pulling Mado up as well. "L-Look, he was already a suspect in our files and found him and Jason at that clinic, and he-"
"Fought back to protect his wife and child that were in hiding," Eva said. "And you killed him."
"We didn't mean to kill him! We just wanted answers!"
"Then why did you let the bastard who maimed him get away?" Eva asked.
Amon stopped. His eyes dart all over the place, trying to come up with a convincing argument. "We tried to go after him, but he was too strong... we couldn't pursue him, not after he nearly overpowered us and ran off. We didn't have any backup with us. We called out a search, but by then, he was already-"
"Anima,"
A withered hand comes from out of the ground and grabs Mado. Anima falls over, but not before the ground bursts apart to reveal a skull with grey hair and horns on its head. Another withered hand appears. The hand around Mado squeezes tightly, causing the man to scream before he is tossed aside. Kizuna turned to face his mother.
"Mother, stop!" Kizuna begged. "Killing him won't bring him back!"
"Your son's right, Eva-san! Asaki wouldn't want this!" Ryouko said. "Killing this man wouldn't bring him back!"
"Please, Mrs Daichi, this isn't worth it!" Kaneki protests.
"MADO!" Amon tries to rush over to Mado, but not before the Eikon gets ahead of him and throws a punch.
The punch lands, crushing the man beneath her fist.
"That's one less sinner in this world," Eva said. "That'll do, Anima."
Anima's body begins to dissipate, her body beginning to break down into tiny lights. As Anima disappears, Amon's body can be seen in a crater made by the punch. His body was practically mangled and twisted. The man was barely even breathing. Eva went over to an overly terrified Mado, raising her keyblade, ready to strike him down.
"N-No, please... wait... I-I have a daughter..." Mado begged. "I... I can't leave her in this godforsaken world... she just turned 21..."
"You should have thought about your daughter before," Eva said.
Kizuna stands between his mother and Mado, arms spread out. Eva looked at him in surprise.
"Get out of my way, boy," Eva said.
"Mother... please... stop," Kizuna said. "This won't bring Mr FueguchiorDad back..."
Eva looked at her boy. She didn't see defiance in him. This was... selflessness. She breathed heavily as she looked into her son's eyes. She begins to lower her keyblade slowly before it dematerializes. Her eyes softened up as her chest was heaving.
"You... are right," Eva said. "My mind was... not as clear as I thought it was. Forgive me, my son."
"All is forgiven, mother..."
Sirens could be heard off into the distance.
Present Day
"Man, that had me on the edge of my seat there," Sora said. "If you hadn't calmed her down, things would have gotten real messy. Speaking of which, how are those two doing?"
"I dunno, I didn't hear anything from them," Kizuna said. "But knowing them, they must have changed a lot since that encounter."
He puts the idol back. He turns to his bed. Sora vanished.
"Time for some sleep, champ,"Sora said.
"Come on, Jiminy, it's time you got some..." He stopped and noticed the cricket taking a nice and cozy nap. He wasn't even making any cricket sounds. "Silly me..."
He gets in his bed and begins to sleep. His eyelids become heavy as his mind drifts out of consciousness.
Ai's Room
Ai was in her bed when a yellow fairy flew around her. She looked at the fairy with a smile as it flew around in excitement. She laughed as she watched the fairy fly around.
"You're very excited about this year, aren't you, Tinker?" Ai asked.
The fairy Tinker Bell was her companion. Ai remembered meeting Tinker Bell in a forest when her parents lived in London, England. She found the fairy to be wounded. Ai took the fairy home to her British mother, who helped in healing the fairy. Tinker Bell was then made a member of Ai's family and Ai's companion before her family moved to Japan. Ai had Tinker Bell alongside her as she was training and working on her magic powers. She introduced Tinker Bell to Akko, and, eventually, her friends at Luna Nova Academy. All the time she spent at Luna Nova with Tinker Bell by her side was a blast.
The fairy nodded.
"Yeah, I'm excited about this year, too," Ai said, blushing as she cupped her cheeks. "So many hot boys to go on dates with~"
The fairy frowned and pouted. She flies around to make an image of her mentor Kairi, reminding Ai why on earth she is here in Daybreak Academy. Ai bemoans at the fairy. "I know, I know, I'm doing this for Master Kairi."
She sighs. "It's just... it's not that serious, is it? I mean, I'm allowed to find a boy who can make me happy, right?"
Tinker Bell squeezes her temple and shakes her head.
"You're no fun," Ai said before rolling on her side, looking saddened. "Besides... you know that's not the only reason, right?"
The fairy becomes wide-eyed and settles down close to Ai's nose. Tinker Bell looked saddened.
"I know... I miss my mom too..." Ai said.
She could never forget that day, the day her mother faced off against an evil witch. She could never forget that witch's face as her mother, Hilda Nanami Leighton, was struck down by her. Her eyes were as black as the darkest night, crimson as the blood moon that hovered over the night, and her skin as gray as ash with red markings similar to blood veins. Her hair was white as snow. She and her siblings were but children then.
"I wish I could have done something to help my mother..." Ai said.
Tinker Bell tried to cheer Ai up. She lets some pixie dust out to make an image of Akko.
"Yeah, I know, Akko would kill me if she saw me looking sad," Ai said. "She'd probably turn herself into a fish or even an elephant if she saw me like this. Heck, I bet she would make some silly faces just to cheer me up. That's something she'd do."
She giggles as she looks at her fairy friend.
On the shelf was a Balan-shaped plush toy sitting there. The plush toy winked once, and it disappeared.
Elsewhere
Salem walked into a room, spotting a girl who was about the same age as a teenager. She had her hair, eyes, and skin, and was wearing a black-red uniform, tending to a rifle with an axe blade on the stock that had been swiveled down. The girl's hair was styled in a bun, with the rest of her hair flowing out. It made Salem think back to how she looked when she was young. This girl was her daughter, whom she affectionately named Hansel. Salem looked upon her daughter, a gift to her from All for One's doctor and head (mad) scientist, Kyudai Garaki. Looking at her daughter, Salem felt pride and joy in her heart.
And the weapon Hansel was cleaning? That weapon was the perfect gift from Salem. It was rather ironic that the weapon of one of her enemies turned out to be the best thing that her daughter could ask for.
Then again, she always took after her mother.
She approached her daughter and sat on the bed.
"Hans?" Salem asked softly as she looked at her daughter. "Where's your brother, Gretel?"
The girl looked at her mother with a smile while polishing the weapon.
"Gretel? That sadistic nutjob of a brother?" Hansel asked. "Knowing him, he's probably fighting some Heartless."
Salem sighed. "Well, your brother has Saiyan blood in him, it's in his nature to seek conflict. How else will he prove just how powerful he is to others?"
"Don't you think you should reign him in a bit?" Hansel asked. "You know it's only a matter of time until his violent tendencies and destructive habits destroy the whole planet out of boredom, rage, or a single glance at a full moon."
"Oh, Hansel, you worry too much," Salem said. "Sure, your brother has... a few problems that he and I are going to work out, but he's still your brother."
"I seriously doubt that," Hansel rolled her eyes, making Salem pout. My brother has no table manners. He's rude and increasingly selfish. He thinks about nothing but finding a worthy opponent for him to fight so he can have another trophy to mount on his wall, and he is a literal glutton. Don't even get me started on his eating habits. I think he takes too much after his father."
The ground shakes as a red beam of light shoots forth, accompanied by a roar.
Hansel stopped cleaning the barrel and looked at where the beam came from. "We need to find him a playmate before he becomes the death of us all."
"Oh, hush, child, you're overreacting."
Gretel fired off a ki blast, destroying a Shadow. The teenage boy had a monkey tail that had wrapped itself around his waist. His hair was white with red highlights. His eyes were black and red, just like Salem's eyes. The boy was laughing as he looked down upon a dead Behemoth that had its head torn off.
"Come one, come all! I'll take any one of you on!" Gretel said.
He quickly turns around, swinging his arm, deflecting a red beam coming at him. The deflected beam strikes the ground. He saw several bipedal, draconian machines with claws mounted on the arms. The machines had heads with open mouths. The machines looked up at Gretel before firing energy beams at him. Gretel smiled maniacally, feeling his blood boiling. A barrier field surrounded him and the barrier deflected the beams. He disappeared and reappeared behind the machines.
He rushes at the machines as they try to engage him in melee combat. He punched right through one. He axe kicks another one, crushing the person riding the machine. He vanished as a third machine tried to grab him. He appeared behind the machine and blasted it, destroying it in one shot. He turns to see another wave of machines coming towards him.
From a distance, Arthur Watts watched Gretel as he fought against the machines. He watched the boy using a pair of binoculars.
"Hmm... that boy worries me," Watts said. "He's violent, mentally volatile, and he acts like a bloodthirsty hound than an actual fighter. Still, at least the Magitek armor works."
He turned to see a man with long blonde hair tied up in a ponytail. The man had a disturbing smile. His eyes were an emerald green color. His face was painted white with red around the eyes and purple around his lips. He was wearing robes with white and red polka dots, black with yellow stripes, and plain purple. He had a red cloak with a yellow lining and a red triangle trim along the interior of his cloak. He was wearing red and blue tights with a black boot and a white boot on his right and left legs.
The man he was looking at was none other than Kefka Palazzo, 35 years old, born in Atlas during the Chaos Era. The man had been experimented on by the Atlesian military's Magitek Knight Program, with Kefka being the first test subject. These experiments were conducted during the Chaos Era in secret. The procedure wasn't perfected by then, and it resulted in him going insane as a result of the infusion of mana coming from a different dimension. The Atlesian military later perfected the process, creating better Magitek Knights. But as peacetime rolled in, the Magitek Knight Program had been shut down after an incident in Mary Geoise that shook the world. It happened when Kefka went berserk during a protest in Mary Geoise and caused a massacre that would live on as the Mary Geoise Massacre. According to the news reports, Mary Geoise was engulfed by a sea of flames followed by several explosions yielding 50 megatons each. Kefka was later subdued by the combined strength of the Keyblade Order and LOGOS and brought on trial on mass murder charges on account of the deaths of 50,000 people, including civilians, the local authorities of Mary Geoise, several mages involved in the operation to stop Kefka, and several key figures in the field of thaumaturgy and Magitek. The trial was held in international court, and the man was later found guilty and then sentenced to death via execution.
Kefka was supposedly being transported to LOGOS' Aerial Maximum Security Prison Onrac to be executed.
But then the transport taking him there exploded as soon as the transport arrived at Onrac. The world government assumed that Kefka died in the explosion in an act of suicide to avoid execution.
Little did they know that Watts and his associates had anything to do with Kefka's death.
Though he could appreciate Kefka's knowledge of Magitek, he had no reason to trust Kefka at all. The man willingly murdered 50,000 people on the spot. The man only joined this organization just to satisfy his desire to destroy things. Even if he happens to be the strongest Magitek Knight, what's to stop a man like Kefka from going off-script and attacking both friend and foe indiscriminately?
"Geez Watson, why the long face?" Kefka asked.
Watts sighed. "Just be glad that Salem sees you as a valuable asset to the team. I'd prefer that you prove that to me as well."
"Oh, come now, Watson-"
"It's Watts, Kefka, Watts," Watts corrected the man. "Besides, I don't trust you, even if Salem deems you useful."
"Whatever," Kefka said. "I've been a good boy since I was thrown into this little soiree of yours by that pale lady who so gladly invited me over! I would never stab you in the back. I do make a nice barbeque over a burning chapel. Too bad those Mormons didn't like their meat well done!" Kefka burst into laughter, much to Watts's disgust.
He wishes he could provoke this lunatic, but knowing what a man like Kefka is capable of, Watts resists the temptation. As skilled as Kefka is in magic, he has a very short fuse, and the slightest provocation would throw him into a fit of rage. An angry Kefka is much more terrifying than a calm Kefka, especially considering his aptitude for magic is incredibly high.
He looked back to continue his observations of Gretel and the Magitek Armor platoon, only to be met with the sight of a man with a single black wing. He had long, silver hair and flashy green eyes and wore a black coat with several buckles keeping it together. The man carried an odachi that was longer than the man's height in one hand.
"GAH!" Watts recoiled. "Damn you Sephiroth! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!"
Kefka laughed again, making Watts turn around in anger at his psychotic colleague. He turned back to Sephiroth.
"Garland wants a full report on the Magitek armor," Sephiroth answered in a cold tone. "And what of Salem's scion?"
Watts simmered down and took a deep breath. "Well, the armors are doing fantastic. The Cornelians sure were masters in the art of developing Magitek weapons. Thanks to our collaborator in England and our friends in the Shinra Electric Power Company, we've been able to mass produce the armor with added modern technology. There are still a few kinks to work out but rest assured, Garland will have his army of Magitek armors."
"And the boy?" Sephiroth asked.
"Well, Gretel's power levels are high, he's in good spirits, good shape, and he's focused," Watts said. "Still, I have concerns about that impetuous child."
"Hm?" Sephiroth lowered one of his brows and raised the other.
"I get that Saiyans are incredibly powerful, but was it necessary for Salem to... procreate with one? Especially when said Saiyan could easily obliterate an entire galaxy if he wanted to?" Watts questions. "Sure, Gretel has shown excellent results so far, but that child is... erratic. His violent tendencies make him almost highly unpredictable and his sadistic attitude is going to turn him into a liability."
"It matters not."
Watts turned to see Garland. He didn't trust Garland for several reasons. The name Garland is cursed in the words of the Grimoire of Stories. Garland the Chaos Bringer, a fallen knight driven mad by his obsession with power, wants to become a god. The Grimoire depicts Garland to be a demon in the guise of a man, a person devoid of interest in anything other than power, the creator of the Four Fiends, born from his hatred and desire to destroy. The man started the Third Keyblade War which destroyed the Old World.
Watts could care less about fairytales and whatnot, but this man is incredibly cryptic. He's never seen Garland take his helmet off, nor does he seem to communicate his intentions. Garland has demonstrated his power during the Tartarus Prison Break, but he feels like there is more to Garland's power. For now, it would be best to simply stay in his good graces.
"Yes, you're right, Sir Garland," Watts said. "The results are all that matter."
Garland chuckles. "That's right. The results are the only things that matter."
Atlas
Whitley Schnee had returned from America after his business trip, stepping out of the VTOL that landed on the helipad. He was wearing a blue-white suit with a cravat around his neck. Alongside him was Penny Polendina. The ginger green-eyed android stood alongside him. Penny was Whitley's bodyguard and he found himself in good company with Penny, even if Penny caused some socially awkward situations due to her lack of social awareness. Alongside Penny was Ciel Soleil, Penny's partner. Ciel was very regimented, something that he expected from someone from Atlas Academy. Even though Ironwood is now a member of LOGOS, his existence can still be felt in the Atlesian military. The two were excellent bodyguards, way more competent than those blundering imbeciles on that train with him a few years back.
Whitley saw his mother, Willow. The white-haired boy looked at his mother, who was smiling at him. It was a welcoming sight to see after being away for so long.
Especially since that man is now gone from his mother's life at long last.
"So, how did your trip to America go?" Willow asked.
"Well..." he walks over to her, Ciel and Penny following him. "It was a pleasant trip, to say the least. I got to meet Xeha in North Carolina. He introduced me to All Mights' former sidekick, David Shield, and he introduced me to his daughter, Melissa."
"David Shield? You mean the brains behind I-Island?" Willow asked. "And he had a daughter?"
Whitley nodded. "Yes, I asked her out for dinner, everything was fine before I found out that Penny and Ciel were—"
"We were just making sure that no harm came to you during your dinner date with Ms Shield." Ciel cuts him off.
"It is just as Ciel says. We were trying to keep a good eye on him while enjoying the local delicacies there," Penny said. "The food was scrumptious."
"Even though I assured the both of you that I would be perfectly fine by myself," Whitley said. "Or have you forgotten that I am carrying a weapon?"
"Sir, with all due respect, having a weapon isn't going to be enough protection for you," Ciel said. "Even with an Aura and a Semblance—"
"Ciel, forgive if I'm wrong, but I can assure you, Penny, and I are relatively the same age and I do believe we attend the same academy together," Whitley said. "I'm not some newborn babe that needs to be coddled occasionally."
"Correction, you are at least—"
"A month, 14 days, 3 hours, 20 minutes, and 13 seconds younger than the both of you," Whitley finished Penny's sentence.
"Oh, you remembered," Penny said, looking genuinely surprised.
"Numbers are much easier to remember than words," Whitley said. "In any case, mother, it was quite the eventful trip."
Willow smiled. "Oh, my young man is growing up to be such a wonderful man." She went over to the young man and hugged him.
"Mother, I'm only 16," Whitley said, blushing a bit out of embarrassment. "How are my sisters doing? I forgot to give them a call..."
"Well, I just got a call from Weiss. She's doing just fine with her friends and you know Winter, she's always busy with her work as a member of LOGOS," Willow said. "Speaking of Weiss, I think she mentioned this boy she met. I think his name was Shoto Todoroki."
Whitley raised a brow. "Endeavor's youngest son?"
"Yes, I think so," Willow said. "Why do you ask?"
"Oh... no reason Mother," Whitley said, one of his brows twitching. "No reason at all."
"Whitley, your body temperature rose by 5 degrees and your heart rate spiked for a second," Penny said. "Is everything alright? Should I get Baymax to—?"
"No, no... it's fine Penny," Whitley said as he finally returned the hug.
Willow gives her son some space.
"Wait, where's Klein?" Whitley asked.
"Klein's baking a cake to celebrate your return," Willow said.
Whitley chuckles. "I should have known you'd have him work in the kitchen." He turns to Penny. "Penny, cancel my appointments. I can't let Klein's cooking go to waste."
Nor Technologies HQ
North Carolina, United States of America
Xehanort was sitting in his chair, pondering to himself. Living his life as a rich kid who was the son of a brilliant scientist and tech entrepreneur was a life he enjoyed. It was a nice break from all the drama his future self threw him into. He turned a plaque around to see the name Xeha T. Nor written on it. His present incarnation was born here in North Carolina and his mother was responsible for the rediscovery of Magitek. He had access to his mother's research notes regarding the ancient, yet highly advanced magic-powered technology used by two highly advanced, ancient civilizations named Gestahlia and Lufenia. The rediscovery of magitek led to a technological renaissance followed by widespread research into magic called the Magitek Renaissance, with Nor Technologies being at the forefront of Magitek development. They made magic-powered appliances, vehicles, processors, medical procedures, and weapons. Nor Technologies has become an incredibly big multi-billionaire company along with its competitors like the Shinra Electric Power Company and the Schnee Dust Company.
Xehanort had become interested in both of these two civilizations managing some business enterprise. They were so highly advanced, having made advances in science, medicine, astrology, and technology, and possessed an interesting culture. For these two to just vanish left questions that need answers. How could they vanish? Did they destroy each other in some kind of war? Did they just leave this world to its own devices? Were they brought down by some kind of cataclysm? Even with all the research being done on these two civilizations, humanity has only scratched the surface.
Xehanort was simply too curious to ignore such things. It helped him to take his mind off of... everything else.
He heard the phone intercom ring. He pressed the button.
"Yes?"
"Mr. Nor, you have a call from the headmaster of Daybreak Academy," A female voice spoke.
'That mouse king? What does he want?'Xehanort thought to himself. "Transfer it to my penthouse."
"Very well sir, have a good night."
He got up.
Xeha's Penthouse
Xehanort was looking at a hologram of Mickey after he got out of the shower with some bathrobes on. He had just gotten out of the shower.
"So, Your Majesty, what are you calling about that needs my attention?" Xehanort asked. "You do know I have to play the part of a multibillionaire genius, yes?"
"Can the attitude, Xehanort," Mickey said. "Speaking of the which, how is the company?"
"Well, the stock prices are high, the money is rolling in, sales are through the roof, and my studies into both Gestahlia and Lufenia are producing some interesting results," Xehanort said. "Now, why is it that you called me?"
"Well... I just got word from intelligence that someone is developing Magitek weapons for Eternal Darkness."
"And that you're going to need to up to ante," Xehanort said. "I can think of a few people or conglomerates willing to throw their chips in with Garland's lot. What about the Kelvin project? Is it proceeding on schedule?"
"Franky and Cid should have it finished by the end of this month," Mickey said. "I just hope it'll be enough for what comes next."
Xehanort put his hands together, crossing his fingers. "I assure you that the Kelvin will do fine once it is finished."
