Chapter 10-The Prison part 1

Daryl's P.O.V

Daryl drives his bike down the dirt road heading for the Prison. He stops his bike when he sees the building. He turns off his bike and climbs off. "You okay?" Alicia asks him as Daryl looks at the Prison. June grabs a camera.

"I'm fine," Daryl says as a walker moves towards them. He raises his crossbow and shoots it in the head as everybody gets out of the cars.

"Al ask you to do that?" Madison asks her.

"Yeah, she got this from Daniel," June says as she starts to film the Prison.

"We'll clear the field," Daryl says as he walks towards the Prison. Carl follows closely behind him.

"Keep an eye on them," Shane says as he follows them. Daryl puts his crossbow behind his back and pulls his knife out. He grabs a walker by its shirt and stabs it in the top of the head as John shoots another one coming towards them. Daryl moves to where Hershel was killed. He looks at the others.

"Go clear the field," He tells them.

"Daryl-," Shane says.

"Go," Daryl says before he walks away.

"I'll go with him," Carl says as he follows Daryl. The others nod as they head into the field. Daryl stops by Hershel's body and head. The body was slightly decomposed, with parts of his bones on his arms showing. Daryl stares at the man. "I miss him," Daryl looks at Carl.

"I do too, kid," Daryl says. He lets a tear go down his eyes. "Let's clear this Prison and get shovels. We'll bury him," Carl nods as they walk towards Shane, who was staring at the Governor's body.

"Is this him?" Shane asks Daryl, who nods.

"Yeah, that's the bastard that killed Hershel, Merle, and Andrea," Daryl says. Shane kicks his body and spits on it as Daryl looks at the graves as Alicia stabs a walker in the head. John looks at him.

"What is it?" John asks.

"There is an extra grave," Daryl says as he walks towards the graves.

"How do you know?" Dwight asks.

"Because I dug most of them," Daryl says as he looks at the grave. The grave had Megan engraved on it.

"Who's Megan?" Nick asks.

"I have no idea," Daryl says. "Come on. Let's get inside," The others nod as they follow Daryl up to the Prison. He looks at the tank and goes to the door. He pulls it open and goes inside. He walks down the stairs with the others following him. Daryl walks to the cellblock door and pulls it on.

"Is it locked?" Madison asks.

"Yeah," Daryl says.

"You locked it before you left?" Enid asks

"No," Carl says.

"Someone's here," Daryl says. "If someone is in here. Open the door. We are here to get supplies and bury our friend,"

"Who are you?" They hear a woman's voice ask.

"Come on out and talk to us," Daryl says. They wait a few moments, and a woman walks out of a cell and looks at them with a gun raised. She looks at Daryl.

"I know you. You were here the day Brian killed the old man," She says.

"You knew him? The Governor?" Daryl asks.

"Yeah, My sister and I were with him. I'm Lilly Chambler,"

"You're Tara's sister," Carl says. Lilly looks at him.

"You know Tara? She's alive?" Lilly asks.

"Yeah, she's in Virginia. A community called the Hilltop. She got out with Glenn," Daryl says. "Can you please open this door?" Lilly nods as she lowers the gun and unlocks the door.

"Tara said you died," Carl says as he looks at the part of Lilly's arm that is missing

"I got bit," Lilly tells them. "After I killed Brian, a walker grabbed me, and I screamed. They blocked the view from the Prison. She had every right to believe that"

"What about the man Brian was talking to? The man with the Phylon,"

"Rick," Daryl says. "He's alive. Pick a cell. We'll be here a day or two," Daryl says.

"I was going to bury the old man," Lilly says. "I only leave to get water,"

"Are all the supplies still here?" Daryl asks.

"A lot of it. I've eaten some of the food, but there is still a lot of it. The guns, ammo, and medical supplies are still here," Lilly says.

"What about the tombs?" Daryl asks.

"I've haven't heard anything," Lilly says.

"How long have you been here?" Alicia asks.

"A few weeks," Lilly says. Daryl nods as he walks into Hershel's cell. He sits down. Lilly walks in. She holds a bible out to him. "I found this on him," Daryl nods as he grabs the bible.

"Thanks," Daryl says to her.

"Was Tara doing okay when you left?" Lilly asks.

"You'll be proud of her," Daryl tells Lilly, who nods as she leaves. Carl walks into the cell with two shovels.

"You ready?" Carl asks Daryl, who nods as they walk outside.

Shane's P.O.V

Shane looked around Carl's cell and saw the picture of Lori, Carl, and Rick. "Is that her?" Madison asks as she walks in.

"Yeah," Shane says. "This is Lori. Carl and Judith's mom,"

"She's beautiful," Madison says as she grabs the picture. "This is the picture Carl came for," Shane nods as Madison sets it down. John walks into the room.

"We are going to move the cars up here. You guys coming?" John asks. Madison and Shane nod as they follow John out. They walk outside and see Carl and Daryl digging Hershel's grave. Hershel's body and head were beside them.

"They both seem like they are shut out from the rest of us," Enid says.

"Carl lost his mother here. Daryl lost his brother while he lived here, and they both lost friends," Morgan says. "Can you blame them?"

"I guess not," Shane says as they head for the vehicles,"

Daryl's P.O.V

Daryl sets his shovel down and looks at Carl. He grabs a bottle of water from his bag and hands it to him. Carl takes the water and takes a drink as he sits down beside Daryl. "You know it sucks coming back here. But we'll be able to bring Tara back with her sister, and Madison found Tobias," Carl says. Daryl nods.

"We should have come back a long time ago," Daryl says. "He should have been buried a long time ago,"

"We're correcting that now," Carl says to him as he looks at Hershel. "I remember that. Every moment of it,"

"I do too, kid," Daryl says.

"Do you think if we shot him? Hershel would still be alive?" Carl asks him.

"I don't know," Daryl says. "Maybe, or they would have shot him and Michonne, and we would have lost 'em both," Carl nods as he looks at Lori's grave. "She would be proud of you,"

"He would too," Carl says as he looks at Merle's grave. Daryl nods as he stands up.

"Come on. Let's get him in the ground," Carl nods as He helps Daryl lay Hershel into the grave. Daryl and Carl grave their shovels and start to put the dirt on top of Hershel.

Enid's P.O.V

Enid sat in the resting area, making a cross. Alicia walks in from the tomb. "You found the food?" Enid asks her.

"Food and medical supplies. Lilly, Madison, John, Shane, and Tobias are getting the food on carts while Rosita, June, Dwight, Nick, and Cyndie are helping June," Alicia tells Enid as she sits down. "Is this for Hershel?"

"Yeah, I don't know how to help him," Enid says.

"I think Daryl and Carl are the only two people who can help each other. We don't know what they went through here. We know the details but not what actually happened. This will help them," Alicia tells Enid, who nods as she continues to work on the cross. They both look at the door as Carl walks back in. "Where's Daryl?" Alicia asks.

"He said out there for a minute," Carl says as he walks down to Enid. He wraps his arms around her. "This is nice,"

"Thanks, we can take it out to Hershel's grave after Daryl comes back," Enid says. Carl nods as he walks away.

Daryl's P.O.V

Daryl bends down in front of Hershel's grave. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect her. I'm sorry, Hershel. I couldn't protect Beth and Glenn is dead because of me. I promise I'll keep Maggie and that kid safe if he's anything like his parents, aunt, and grandpa. That kid will be a force to be reckoned with. I couldn't save you. I saw you smile. I don't know how you were able to smile when you knew you might die. You were one of the best men I ever knew, Hershel. I'll honor you by keeping your family alive," Daryl says before he stands up. He wipes the tears off his face and goes back into the Prison. He walks inside and sees the carts. "Good job," Daryl says.

"Are you okay?" Madison asks.

"Yeah, I'm fine. The guns are outside. We locked some of them up. Lilly should have the keys," Daryl says. Shane nods.

"They were about to make dinner," Shane says. Daryl nods as he goes into the cellblock. He looks at Carl, who was sitting in his cell.

"Enid made a cross. I'll take it out for him," Carl says. Daryl nods as he goes up the stairs. Daryl walks into Beth's cell and looks around. He looks at the board Beth would use. Daryl smiles as he walks away from the cell.

Night

Daryl's P.O.V

Daryl sat in his cell. It has been about three hours since everybody went to bed. Daryl stands up and walks into Glenn and Maggie's cell. He lifts the mattress and grabs Glenn's hat. Daryl sets the mattress down and sits on it. He stares at the hat and lowers his head. He looks up and goes back to his cell. He puts the hat in his bag and goes outside. Daryl walks down the path and over to the Governor's body. He kicks his body, letting out grunts of anger as he kicks the man's body. Daryl kicks him in the face and starts to stomp down on his face. Daryl hears the cracking of the bones. "Daryl!" Alicia says as she grabs him. Daryl looks at her, breathing heavily. "What are you doing?"

"I stopped looking. I stopped looking for this bastard, and he came back and killed Hershel, destroyed the Prison, and put us all back out there. Glenn, Tyreese, Beth, Bob, and Sasha were safe in here. We were all safe, and this bastard sent us back out there. Maybe if I didn't stop looking, they would still be alive. Maybe we would all still be in this Prison, and Maggie's child would have a father, a grandpa, and an aunt. He came back and helped kill the people I love," Daryl says in anger. "Because I stopped looking," Alicia hugs him, and Daryl lays his head down on her shoulder as he cries. Alicia lifts his head up.

"Look at me," Alicia says. "This is not your fault. You couldn't have known what he would do. You did your best, Daryl. You came back here for the people you loved and so you could bury your friend. He was a monster, Daryl. You're a good man Daryl. This is not your fault. None of this is," Alicia says to him. Daryl stares at her, breathing heavily. He could feel his heart beating. Alicia leans up and kisses him. Daryl wraps his arms around her waist. Alicia pulls back and grabs Daryl's hand. She pulls him into the watchtower and leads him up the stairs. Daryl kisses her again. Daryl pushes her against the wall as she pushes his vest off.

Alicia's P.O.V

A few hours later

Alicia opens her eyes and looks around. It was still dark out. She pulls Daryl's vest off of her and looks around. She sees that he is gone. Alicia stands up and sees a fire on the path. She grabs her clothes. She gets her pants and shoes on. She puts her tank top on and walks down the stairs. She walks over to Daryl, who was watching as the Governor's body burned. He had his pants and shoes on as well as a T-shirt. Alicia stops beside him. "He doesn't deserve to be buried or even left on the ground. He'll be burnt like the walkers," Daryl says. Alicia nods and holds Daryl's vest out to him. Daryl puts his vest back on.

"Do we forget this happened?" Alicia asks him. Daryl looks at her. "I can't go through what I went through with Jake again and I don't think either of us want to go through the pain if one of us dies,"

"We'll forget it," Daryl tells her. Alicia nods as she turns around. "Partners?"

"Partners," Alicia says. Daryl nods as he continues to watch the body burn. Alicia walked back into the watchtower as Daryl turned and walked back to the Prison. Alicia grabbed her things and walked back into the Prison. She looks at June, who was sitting in the resting area. "What are you doing?"

"Watching the footage," June says. "Daryl just came in. Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, he was mad, and I helped calm him down," Alicia says to her. "He burned the Governor's body,"

"I don't blame him," June says.

"Neither do I. Goodnight, June," Alicia says. June nods as Alicia walks into the cellblock.

Thanks for reading. The Prison will be two parts. This was day one and was focused on a lot of Daryl and Carl, and the next chapter will continue that because the Prison is a very big part of their story. I loved this chapter so much. So Lilly Chambler is the other surprise character. Her arm looks a lot like Aaron's would after he loses his. Before I get any shit on it. I have Madison alive, and she was in a worse situation. She got bit and lost her arm. She has a very interesting story coming. I have run the Daryl and Alicia part through my head a thousand times, and every time I did, it felt like a romantic scene would have been wrong for them. The fast adrenaline scene felt more like how that would go down in my mind, and this is my story, so my choice. The Prison also felt like the perfect place, and that will have effects on their relationship going forward. Their relationship is going to work backwards kind of. And if anybody didn't understand the reason neither of them wanted to get into a relationship. My reason is neither of them want to open themselves up to that kind of hurt. Two more things. One, I do not know how body decomposition works, so don't leave a comment or anything about that. The last thing is, I was going to ask if you think the group should return to Grady but I have made the decision that they will. So let me know if you have any suggestions for Grady. Grady will be discussed more in the next chapter. Part two will have more scenes like this one, and I am very excited for it. Sorry for the long note but I felt this needed to be said. As always, suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
