Chapter 12-The First Attack
Troy's P.O.V
Troy walks out of his room in the sanctuary. He walks over to Laura, who was watching the rest of the saviors. "Have you seen anything?" Troy asks her.
"Nothing out of the ordinary. I think it's about time you start to earn their trust," Laura says.
"How?" Troy asks her.
"I have no clue," Laura says. "Good luck," Laura says before she walks away.
"Great," Troy says as he looks at the saviors. Jed walks up to him.
"Did they leave you here?" Jed asks.
"Yeah, you have a problem with that?" Troy says.
"I think we got off on the wrong foot," Jed says.
"You were an asshole, and I put you in your place," Troy says, making Jed grin.
"You have balls. I like that," Jed says as he walks away. "You coming?"
"Where?" Troy asks.
"Cards," Jed says. "So you coming?"
"Sure," Troy says as he follows Jed.
Al's P.O.V
Al watched as Maggie showed Charlie how to ride a horse. She smiles as the gate opens. All three of them look at the gate as Rick drives in. Rick stops the car by the ring and gets out. "Hey, what are you doing here?" Maggie asks him.
"I'm going on a run, and Michonne is watching Judith. I was wondering if Al wanted to come with me," Rick says as he looks at Al.
"Sure. Let me get my things," Al says.
"I'll be right back," Maggie says to Charlie, who nods. Maggie follows Al inside. Al goes into her room and grabs her bag.
"You need something?" Al asks her.
"I just wanted to say be safe," Maggie says. Al nods. Maggie hugs Al, who hugs her back. Al pulls back and kisses Maggie's cheek before she leaves. Maggie watches her with a small smile before she follows her outside. Al and Rick climb into Al's van, and they leave the Hilltop.
Troy's P.O.V
Troy walks over to Jed and a few other saviors. "Why don't you take a seat, Troy," A savior named James said. Troy sits down beside Jed.
"So, how did you end up with Daryl?" Jed asks.
"Saved Alicia's mother after she almost killed me with a hammer," Troy says.
"You must like being one of his bitches," Jed says.
"I'm nobody's bitch," Troy says to Jed. "There is safety in numbers. You are still here,"
"Because if I did leave, we all know Rick Grimes would shoot me," Jed says. "He talks all about this new world while we are left here with no weapons and a babysitter,"
"I know the feeling. Back at my ranch, the Indians in the area took over and took all of our guns and kicked me out of my home," Troy says.
"And you let them do it?" Jed asks him.
"I didn't have a choice. Madison held me at gunpoint," Troy says. "I led a herd of walkers to the ranch, and most of them were killed,"
"Wish we could do that to Alexandria," Jed says. "You see people like Rick, Madison, Daryl, and the people who took your ranch. They all think they are better than the rest of us. Rick wouldn't care if a herd of walkers came and killed us as long as his boy Gabriel makes it out alive. We are just his tools,"
"When he doesn't need us anymore. He'll kill us," James says. "Watch your back, Troy. You may have come back with Daryl, but you don't matter to Rick and his bitches,"
"Think about what side you want to be on when shit goes down, Troy," Jed says. "We got work to do," Troy looks at them as they leave. He sighs as he stands up and walks away.
Al's P.O.V
Al drives the van down the road. Rick was directing her towards the town they were going to. "You know before all this, I was the deputy sheriff," Rick says to her.
"I know you and Shane were partners. Knowing your way around a gun, most have been good for all of this," Al says.
"Yeah, it was," Rick says. "It's hard to think of who I was back then. It seems like we are completely different people. One thing that hasn't changed is I don't like being on the sideline. I want to help as many people as possible,"
"That is where we are different," Al says. "For most of this, I stood behind a camera and gave the people what I promised them. I stayed away from getting connected to anybody I interviewed,"
"What changed that?" Rick asks her.
"Daryl, Morgan, and John," Al says. "As I told Alicia. I have layers. Daryl getting shot is what changed it all if I didn't get off the sideline. He would have died, and I couldn't let that happen,"
"You just needed the right reason. What matters is that you did help him," Al nods as they continue to drive.
Maggie's P.O.V
Maggie walks into Tara's room and looks at the woman who was on her bed. "Hey, Maggie. What's up?" Tara asks as Maggie sits down on the side of her bed.
"Can I ask your opinion on something?" Maggie asks.
"Sure," Tara says as she sits up.
"What do you think about, Al?" Maggie asks her.
"She's cool. She fun to talk to and she's an interesting person. She isn't bad looking," Tara says to her. "Why?"
"We've had a few moments," Maggie says slowly.
"Moments?" Tara asks with a smile.
"Yeah. When she got back from Alexandria, she kissed my cheek before she left today," Maggie says.
"Sounds like she likes you," Tara says. "I have things to do. Maggie, if you do like Al and you feel like you are betraying Glenn in some way. Glenn would want you to be happy regardless of who it's with," Maggie nods as Tara leaves the room. They hear gunshots and then a crash and then more gunshots. Maggie stands up and leaves the room. She goes to the stairs and sees Charlie.
"Stay inside," Maggie tells Charlie, who nods as she runs outside. Maggie gets in cover as they are shot at. They saw a truck and the gate opened. They see a man shooting at them as others fleel into the woods. Tara shoots the man in the stomach, making the man fall to the ground. Maggie goes down to the truck and looks around.
"Kal what the hell happened?" Tara asks her.
"I don't know. This guy just came out of nowhere in this truck and ran into the gate. Others shot at us from the woods and then went back into the woods," Kal says. Maggie walks over to the man who looks at her.
"Who the hell are you?" Maggie asks as she bends down. The man coughs blood out of his mouth.
"This is just the beginning. We will continue Negan's work. We will save the people you and your friends have doomed. We are the true saviors," The man says before he grabs his gun and shoots himself in the head.
"Is anybody dead?" Tara asks.
"Two," Kal says. "Lucas and Will. They were on watch,"
"Anybody recognize him?" Tara asks as she looks at the body.
"No," Tara says. "He must be one of the saviors,"
"Radio Gabriel and see if any of the saviors are gone," Maggie says to Tara, who nods as she leaves. Maggie grabs her radio off her hip.
"Al? Rick?" Maggie says.
"We are here. What is it, Maggie?" Al asks.
"We just got attacked by saviors like Liam," Maggie says. "Will and Lucas are dead, and one of them is dead. It sounds like they are calling themselves the true saviors,"
"We'll be back as soon as possible," Al says. Maggie gets in the truck and moves it forwards. Kal and Siddqi shut the gate.
"The gate will shut, but they fucked it up. We'll need to fix it," Siddqi says.
"Earl and Kal can do it," Maggie says.
"We'll get right on it," Earl says as he walks over to Kal. Maggie looks at two members of the Hilltop named Dillon and Bill.
"You two grab the metal panels in the basement and get them up top. We need cover for people on watch," Maggie says. They nod as they walk away. Maggie walks away.
Troy's P.O.V
Troy walks into Gabriel's room and looks at him. "What do you need? I think I'm starting to gain your trust," Troy says.
"A group of the saviors just attacked Hilltop. Killed two members," Gabriel says.
"How did they get the guns?" Troy says.
"Who knows. Where was Jed?" Gabriel asks.
"I was with him. Jed may have been here, but I do think he is part of this in some way," Troy says.
"I need you and Laura to make a delivery to Hilltop. Some metal panels and tools to help fortify the gate," Gabriel says.
"I can't leave. I'm getting somewhere with them, Gabriel," Troy says.
"I'm not trusting any of them near Maggie right now. I am the leader of the sanctuary, and you live here right now. Go, the truck is ready," Gabriel says. Troy leaves the room, slamming the door on his way out.
Maggie's P.O.V
Maggie walks to the gate as it is pulled open slowly. Al stops the van and climbs out. "Are you okay?" Al asks Maggie as she walks up to her.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I was inside with Tara," Maggie says.
"How is Charlie?" Al says.
"She is inside," Maggie says as Rick walks up to her. "Troy and Laura are on their way here with a delivery with panels and tools. We are going to give the saviors food in return,"
"Good," Rick says. "I'll be back tomorrow. I don't think these guys are done,"
"They aren't, Rick. He said they would save the people who we have doomed. We are the true saviors,"
"We'll figure this out," Al says.
"Well, a good amount of our muscle is in Georgia," Maggie says.
"I think clearing that warehouse will help more than just our group," Al says to Rick. "We could use the wood to reinforce The Hilltop, Alexandria, and the Kingdom after we reinforce the campgrounds,"
"I'm going to go talk with Negan," Rick says as he gets into his car and leaves. Earl and Kal shut the gate.
"Come on. Let's go inside," Al says. Maggie nods as she follows her inside.
Rick's P.O.V
Rick arrives in Alexandria in the evening. He drives to his house and gets out of the car. He gets out, and Michonne comes over to him. "Gabriel told us about what happened," Michonne says.
"I have to go talk to Negan," Rick says. Michonne nods as he walks down to Negan's cell. Negan looks at him.
"Hey, Rick, the prick. Did you bring another bitch?" Negan asks.
"Do you know about the true saviors?" Rick asks.
"The what?" Negan asks as he stands up.
"Hilltop was just attacked, and two people were killed by a group of saviors calling themselves the true saviors," Rick says.
"Well, Rick, I don't have a damn clue about them. I have been locked in a cell," Negan says.
"If I find out you have anything to do with this. I'll kill you," Rick says before he leaves the room.
Al's P.O.V
Al walks out of her room after making sure Charlie was asleep. Troy and Laura had delivered the supplies and left. She walks downstairs and sees Maggie sitting in her office with a bottle of whiskey. "Where did you get that?" Al asks her.
"Gabriel gave it to me after he arrived at the sanctuary," Maggie says. "You want a glass,"
"Sure," Al says as she walks into the office and sits down. Maggie pours her a glass and hands it to Al. "Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yeah. I wish I could have changed what happened," Maggie says.
"You couldn't have known what they were doing," Al says. Maggie nods as puts the whiskey away.
"No drinking for me. I thought we would be done with the saviors after we caught Negan. They are still causing us problems," Maggie says.
"We'll stop these assholes," Al tells Maggie. Maggie nods as she finishes the glass.
"We have some work to do tomorrow," Maggie says as she stands up. "Close up when you are done," Al nods as Maggie puts her glass away. She walks over to Al and kisses her cheek.
"Goodnight, Al," Maggie says before she leaves. Al watches her as she leaves. Al drinks the rest of her glass and goes to bed.
Thanks for reading. This chapter shows the first attack of this group. Troy is starting to earn the trust of the saviors, and Maggie and Al are growing closer. I'm having Maggie's and Al's relationship go a little slow because I think Maggie would be a little hesitant to date another person after Glenn, but you can tell that they have feelings for each other that will continue to grow. The next chapter will focus on the final setup for the warehouse—the aftermath of the attack and Alden and Luciana. I have gotten a few responses on what they want with Beth.
