Chapter 19-Their New Home
Beth's P.O.V
Beth was standing on the balcony by Maggie's room, looking over Hilltop. She looks at Maggie as she walks out. "Daddy would have liked it here," Beth says to Maggie.
"Yeah, he would have. Glenn liked this place," Maggie says as she looks at Carl and Enid, who was talking with Earl.
"I didn't recognize him at first. He's taller, and he has one eye. He's not the same kid that was at the prison," Beth says.
"None of us are the same as we were at the Prison," Maggie says as the gate opens. "That's Carol, most likely," Beth smiles as she goes back inside.
"I'll get Judith," Maggie says. Beth nods as she goes down the stairs and outside. Beth runs up to Carol and hugs her as she gets out of the truck. Carol wraps her arms around the blond. Carol kisses Beth's head. Carol pulls back and looks at the blond.
"You look amazing," Carol says to her.
"So do you," Beth says. Carol smiles at Maggie as she walks outside. Beth lets Carol go and looks at Ezekiel.
"This is Ezekiel," Carol says. "He runs the Kingdom,"
"Nice to meet you, Beth," Ezekiel says as Maggie walks over to them. Carol goes over to Carl and hugs the teen.
"Where is Tara?" Jerry asks.
"With her sister. Daryl found her sister too," Maggie says.
"Seems like Daryl has a thing for finding our dead friends," Carol says.
"Where is he?" Beth asks her.
"The warehouse. He stayed for a little bit," Carol says. "What happened to everybody at Grady?"
"Besides Amanda and Edwards. Daryl and the group killed the rest," Beth says.
"Good," Maggie says. "That's what we should have done with you,"
"There were more people this time than when Rick came," Beth says. "Speaking of them. Where did he meet them because I didn't know any of them, and he trusted them,"
"Daryl and Morgan met them in Texas," Maggie says.
"Texas?" Beth asks.
"Daryl and Morgan left after the war and came back a few months later with that group. The campgrounds are where he plans on living, so they don't have to separate them," Carol says. Beth nods.
"You guys hungry? We were about to have lunch," Maggie says to them.
"We can eat," Carol says to her. Maggie nods as she leads them away.
Tara's P.O.V
Tara and Lilly have been lying in Tara's bed enjoying each other's company. "Megan?" Tara says.
"I buried her," Lilly says. "Daryl burned the Governor's body,"
"Good," Tara says. "He played us,"
"Yeah, he did. We trusted him, and all he wanted was revenge against Rick, and because of that, people died. I got bit, and Megan is dead," Lilly says.
"Well, he's dead," Tara says. She looks at Lilly's stump. "We should find you a prosthetic, or I can ask Earl to make you one,"
"Earl?" Lilly asks.
"Our blacksmith," Tara says. "Come on. Let's go see him,"
"Okay," Lilly says. Tara and Lilly walk outside. They walked down the path and over to Earl, who looked at them.
"Hey, Tara," Earl says. He looks at Lilly. "I'm Earl,"
"Lilly," Lilly says to him.
"So, what can I do for you two ladies?" Earl asks.
"Can you make a prosthetic for her?" Tara says as Lilly shows him his arm. Earl looks at her arm and nods.
"Yeah," Earl says as he looks at her arm. "Gives me a few days, and I'll have something for you,"
"Thanks, Earl," Tara says. Earl nods as the two sisters walk away.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl stood by his bike with Glenn's hat in his hands. "Maggie ask you to get that?" Rick asks as he walks up to him.
"Yeah, got Hershel's bible too," Daryl says. "Forgot to give this to her,"
"I don't know how you did it. Going back there," Rick says.
"I barely slept," Daryl says. "Spend the first day burying Hershel and talking to his grave. After I found this, I got so mad, and I started to beat on the Governor's body. Alicia found me, and we burned the body," Rick nods as Al, John, Alicia, and Morgan walk outside.
"We should get going," John says. "We should go help at the campgrounds,"
"Go, we'll close up the warehouse for the day. There should be enough material at the campgrounds after Aaron and Jesus take that truck," Rick says as he looks at the truck filled with metal and wood.
"Why don't you guys go with them," Daryl says to Alicia, John, and Morgan. "I have to go to Hilltop,"
"Okay, we'll see you there," Alicia says. Daryl nods as he climbs onto his bike. Al gets in her van and leaves, with Daryl following her.
"Rick, go get Gabriel. We'll help Daniel, Aaron, and Jesus," Morgan says. Rick nods as he walks to his car with Michonne.
Maggie's P.O.V
Carl walks up to Maggie, who was sitting on the steps to Barrington. Carl sits down beside Maggie and looks at Enid and Beth, who were talking. "I think she approves," Maggie says to Carl.
"I do too," Carl says as he looks at her. "I got Mom's picture for Judith,"
"She'll love it," Maggie says. "You're a good brother," Carl smiles as they hear Daryl's bike. The gate opens, and Daryl and Al drive into Hilltop. They stop their vehicles. Maggie stands up and walks up to Al. She hugs the woman who hugs her back. She lets Al go and looks at Daryl. "I thought you would have gone to the campgrounds," Maggie says.
"I will," Daryl says as he opens his back and pulls out Glenn's hat. He holds it out to Maggie, who grabs it. She looks at Daryl.
"Thank you," Maggie says. Daryl nods as he pulls Hershel's bible out.
"Figured you might want this," Daryl says. Maggie grabs the bible and nods.
"Daryl, thank you," Maggie says before she gives him a hug. "They would be proud of you," Maggie whispers to him. "They both knew that you are one of the good things," Daryl nods before he lets her go. He nods to Carol and Ezekiel, who nods back. He walks over to Beth and hugs her. He looks at Enid.
"Stay out of trouble," Daryl says to her.
"I'll try," Enid says to him. Daryl nods as he walks up to Carl.
"You want a ride to Alexandria?" Daryl asks.
"I'll stay here for the night," Carl says to Daryl. "Thanks for letting me come,"
"Would have been harder without you, kid," Daryl says before he goes back to his bike. He climbs on the bike and leaves Hilltop, heading for the campgrounds. Maggie smiles at Al before she goes back over to Al.
Rick's P.O.V
Rick and Michonne were driving down a dirt path with a map Troy had made for them. Rick slows the car down when he sees the cabin. He turns the car off and steps out with Michonne. "Gabriel," Rick says. The door opens, and Gabriel steps outside.
"Hey, Rick," Gabriel says. "What are you doing here?"
"We are taking you somewhere else," Rick says.
"Where?" Gabriel asks.
"Kingdom," Rick says. "The Saviors aren't allowed inside of Kingdom, and they don't go that way much,"
"Okay," Gabriel says as he goes inside. He grabs his things and goes outside, and walks over to Rick and Michonne. He climbs inside of the car. Rick and Michonne climb in after him. Rick starts to drive down the road again. Rick drives down the dirt road and gets back out to the main road. He turns onto it, heading for the Kingdom.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl drives his bike down the dirt road heading for the campgrounds. John pulls the gate open, letting him drive his bike inside. Daryl turns his bike off by Merle's bike. He climbs off and grabs his bag. He looks at John as he walks up to him. "There are only three cabins that need to be fixed," John says.
"We'll fix 'em," Daryl says. "We will fix them tomorrow," Daryl says as he walks with John. "Has everybody picked a cabin?"
"Yeah," John says. "We are using the bigger cabin for group meetings and for everybody to eat at and store supplies," Daryl nods as he sees Charlie talking to Alicia. "Most people are bunking up with someone to save room for people when we find 'em,"
"Do you know where everybody is?" Daryl asks.
"Ask June. She found a chart that lists all the cabins. She has been marking them," John says. Daryl nods as he walks away from John and walks to the cabin that June was using as an infirmary. He walks inside and sees June setting up the equipment.
"We'll need some generators until we get the solar panels set up," June tells Daryl, who nods.
"John said you had a chart where everybody was," Daryl says. June nods as she grabs the chair and holds it out to Daryl.
"Most of these cabins had two rooms," June tells Daryl, who nods. Daryl looks at the chart. Shane and Madison were sharing. Strand and Cole were sharing. Luciana and Nick were sharing. Morgan was sharing with Dwight. Tobias was sharing with Eugene. Amanda was sharing with Alden. June and John were sharing. Daniel was in a smaller one by himself.
"Alicia, you and Charlie are the only ones without a cabin. Cyndie and Rosita are staying in the big cabin until they leave," June says. Daryl nods as he looks at the chart. Daryl nods as he sets it down.
"We'll get a generator in here tomorrow morning," Daryl tells June, who nods as he leaves. Daryl walks outside and over to Alicia and Charlie, who are talking.
"Was everything okay at Hilltop?" Alicia asks him. Daryl nods as he looks at them.
"Do you know where you are going to stay?" Daryl asks her.
"No," Alicia says. "I was going to sleep on the couch in the big cabin,"
"You can stay in a cabin with Charlie and me," Daryl says.
"Okay," Alicia says. Daryl nods as he leads them to a cabin close to John's and walks inside. He looks around the cabin. There was a chair and a couch and a small kitchen. Daryl could see a door leading to a bathroom and see three doors that led to rooms.
"Pick a room," Daryl says to them. Daryl goes to one of the rooms and opens the door. It had a bed and a dresser. Daryl takes his bag off and throws it on the bed. He pulls his vest off and sets it on the bed beside his vest. Daryl sits down on the bed and rubs his eyes. Daryl looks at the door as Charlie opens it. "Everything okay?"
"Yeah," Charlie says as she walks up to him.
"What is it?" Daryl asks her.
"Can you teach me how to hunt?" Charlie asks Daryl.
"Yeah," Daryl says. "Come on. We should go eat," Daryl says. Charlie nods as they walk out of the room. They see Alicia come out of the bathroom with new clothes on. "You coming?" Alicia nods as she follows them outside. They walk to the big cabin. Daryl walks inside and sees the group sitting inside. Madison walks up to him and hands them a plate of food. They sit down and eat their food with the rest of the group.
Maggie's P.O.V
Maggie walks out of her room as Beth is feeding Judith. She walks over to Al's room and opens the door, and walks in. Al was sitting on the bed, watching the footage from the camera June used. Al looks at her and sets the camera down. "Hey," Al says as she stands up. Maggie walks up to her.
"We haven't had much time to see each other today," Maggie says.
"Your sister came back from the dead. It's okay," Al says. Maggie smiles at Al and kisses her.
"I wanted to stay goodnight," Maggie says to Al.
"That was a good way to do it," Al says. "Now go be with Beth," Maggie nods. She kisses Al again and walks out of the room. She shuts the door and walks to her room.
"When did that start?" Carl asks. Maggie looks at him.
"What are you doing up here?" Maggie asks.
"I was going to talk to Beth, but then I saw you go in there and listened," Carl says.
"It started a few days ago," Maggie says. "But nobody knows so keep it quiet,"
"I might have to give her the talk," Carl says.
"Go to bed," Maggie tells Carl as she goes into her room. Carl smiles as he goes down the stairs. Maggie sits down by Beth and smiles.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl sat in a chair outside the cabin with a cigarette in his hand. He had found them in the dresser in his room. He takes a buff of the cigarette and looks. Daryl looks at Morgan as he walks up the stairs and sits by him. "This place will do well," Morgan says.
"We have some work to do, but yeah, it will," Daryl says to him. "But now we have to worry about the true saviors,"
"We beat Negan. We can beat his lackeys," Morgan says to him. Daryl nods as he looks at the door.
"Get some sleep, Morgan. We have work to do tomorrow," Daryl says. Morgan nods as he stands up and walks away. Daryl throws his cigarette on the ground and stomps on it. He walks inside and goes to Charlie's room. He makes sure she is asleep before he goes to his room. He lays down in the bed and goes to sleep.
Thanks for reading. So now Daryl's group is finally at the Campgrounds, which will be their home. If anybody has any ideas for the name of the campgrounds, let me know. I have one or two, but I want to hear some others. Next chapter Daryl and the group start to turn the campgrounds into a home. Maggie gets used to having her sister back in her life, as does Tara. Carl decides if he wants to return to Alexandria and the True Saviors get ready to make their next move. Also I know that these last few chapters have been Daryl and Maggie centric and that is about to change. These next few chapters will focus a little more on people like Alicia, John, Morgan, Nick and some of the other main characters who have kind of been in the shadows.
