Chapter 29-Starting to help people
Negan's P.O.V
Negan was carrying a piece of wood towards the wall when he saw Morgan and Nick practicing with their sticks. "Does that actually do anything for you besides make you a badass with that stick?" Negan questions making them both stop and look at him.
"Yes, it does more than that," Morgan answers. "It helps you find peace and removes stress, and keeps your body calm. Maybe you should try it sometimes," Morgan suggests.
"I'm good," Negan says as he continues to walk. Negan walks to the wall and hands the wood to Strand, who grabs it and puts it up against the wall.
"What took you so long?" He asks Negan.
"Had a small talk with Morgan," Negan answers. "How did you end up with this group?" Strand doesn't say anything as he continues to work. "Not a talker, huh?"
"I talk to people when I want to," Strand answers. "I've been with Alicia, Madison, Daniel, and Nick since the start," Negan nods as he starts to put up another piece of wood.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl stands in Maggie's office as she shuts the door. "I'm glad you came," Maggie says as she walks up to him. "How have things been at the campgrounds?"
"Good," Daryl says. "I came here for more than just horses," Daryl admits. "I wanted to check on you and the baby. How have you been?" Daryl asks with concern evident in his voice.
"We're fine. Edwards said the baby is healthy. Only a few more months," Maggie says. Daryl nods. An awkward silence fills the room.
"Okay, I can't do this. We need to fix this. I can't have this tension between us," Daryl says, breaking the silence. Maggie sighs and looks him in the eyes.
"I don't want this tension either, Daryl, but every time I look at you, I think about the fact that the man who slaughtered Glenn, no not just him our Friends, and laughed about it is now walking free." Maggie explains.
"Yeah, he's out, but he can't do anything, Maggie. We've been through so much s***. The farm, the prison, Grady, and everything leading up to this. I don't give a f*** that your people are mad at me or that Oceanside is mad at me. I do care that you are mad at me," Daryl says before he hears knocking at the door.
"We're ready," John says.
"I'll be out in a second," Daryl says before he looks at Maggie. "Don't stop Carl or Beth from coming to the campgrounds. I want you to think about what you would do if the true saviors had Al. Would you have let them kill her, or would you have let Negan out," Daryl walks to the door and opens it. "Also, I do know about you two," With those words, Daryl walks out of the room, leaving Maggie to her own thoughts as she sits down, her face full of conflict.
Dwight's P.O.V
Dwight was sitting against his bike smoking a cigarette when Rosita walked up to him. He takes a hit of the cigarette and looks at her. "What are you guys doing here?"
"Amanda's talking to Rick," Dwight answers. Rosita nods. "What do you need?" Dwight questions.
"I have a request for you when you get back to the campgrounds," Rosita answers. Dwight nods.
"What is it?" Dwight asks.
"Can you have Morgan radio me?" Rosita asks Dwight.
"Morgan? Morgan Jones?" Dwight questions, a bit taken aback.
"Yes, can you do it or not?" Rosita asks.
"Yeah, I'll do it," Dwight tells her.
"Thanks," Rosita says before she walks away.
"That woman confuses the hell out of me," Dwight says as he continues to smoke. Amanda walks over to him a few minutes after he finishes. "Ready?" Dwight asks. Amanda nods as they climb onto his bike and leave, heading for the campgrounds.
Rick's P.O.V
Rick walks back inside his house and sees Michonne lying on the couch with a book in her hand. "Comfortable?" Rick asks with a grin as he walks over to her. Michonne looks at him.
"I can't remember the last time I got to sit down and read a book. It has been a while," Michonne says as Rick sits down at the end of her feet. "It's so quiet."
"Yeah, with Carl and Judith gone, this house feels abandoned," Rick says with a sigh.
"What did Amanda want?" Michonne asks, trying to get Rick's mind off his kids.
"She wants to start a police force of sorts," Rick tells him.
"Like Deanna did with you and me?" Michonne questions as she brings herself up to give Rick her full attention.
"Yeah, kind of, but there will be three people in each community that will report to Amanda, John, and me," Rick explains.
"Who are you thinking about for Alexandria beside you?" Michonne asks.
"Rosita," Rick says. "She had some experience in the army. She will be perfect. I was also thinking Aaron," Rick says.
"Good idea," Michonne says. "I think it is a great idea and will do some good."
"Yeah, I gotta go radio Maggie and Ezekiel," Rick tells Michonne, who nods as he leaves.
Gas station
A teenager runs into a gas station with a child in her arms and a man behind her. The man pushes his back against the door as walkers try and push it open. "What do I do?" She asks.
"Get me your bag," The man replies. The girl nods as she sets the kid down and pulls her back off her back. She hands it to the man as the child starts to cry. The girl picks her back up.
"It's okay. Don't cry, goofball," The girl says.
Carl's P.O.V
Carl was working with Earl when Maggie walked up behind them. "Carl, can we talk for a second?" Maggie asks Carl, who nods as he sets his tools down and takes his gloves off. He follows Maggie away from the others. "Did you go to the campgrounds yesterday?" Maggie questions him.
"Maggie, we were on the run," Carl replies.
"Carl, Daryl said to me to let you and Beth go to the campgrounds. How would he know I was keeping you if you didn't talk to him?" Maggie says.
"Fine, we went to the campgrounds," Carl says. "Are you going to lock me in a cell now?"
"No, next time you decide to lie to me, I will. I don't know why you want to see Negan, and really I don't give a damn. If you want to go, do it but don't sneak off next time," Maggie says. Carl nods as he walks away. Carl walks back over to Earl and grabs his groves and tools.
"You okay, kid?" Earl asks Carl, who shakes his head.
"Women confuse me," Carl replies with a sigh.
"That will never change," Earl says with a chuckle as he continues to work.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl drives down the road. "Is something going on at camp?" John asks Daryl, suddenly making him look at him.
"What do you mean?" Daryl questions.
"June has been smiling since the day before last, and she said talk to you about it," John answers.
"Alicia's pregnant," Daryl tells John, causing a huge grin to form on his face.
"That's great, Daryl. Congratulations," Johns says.
"Thanks," Daryl says. "I was going to wait a little bit to tell you and Morgan."
"I understand. That is great. Does Shane know, and if he does, how did that go?" John asks, the grin still on his face.
"He knows, and he threatened to kill me if I hurt the baby or Alicia, and I believed him," Daryl says.
"Are you and Alicia together?" John asks Daryl, who nods.
"Yeah, since last night," Daryl answers. John grins and is about to speak when Daryl's radio went off.
"Hello, is there anybody there?" A man asks through his radio, his voice full of panic."We need help."
Daryl quickly grabs his radio. "Yes, we are here. Where are you?" Daryl questions.
"We are in a question off the highway. We saw a sign for something called Barrington house a mile back," The man replies. John looks at Daryl.
"You know where that is?" John questions Daryl, who nods.
"Hang tight. We're coming to help," Daryl says before he speeds the car up.
Gas Station
Daryl stops the truck outside the gas station and sees the walker pressing themselves up against the door. He could hear the child crying. John pulls out his revolvers and shoots four walkers in seconds as Daryl shoots one through the head with his crossbow. John shoots two more walkers as Daryl reloads. Daryl shoots another walker as John shoots the last six. "Jesus, man. Why do you bother using a knife?" Daryl asks John, who smirks as they go to the gas station. "I see why Maggie asked you,"
Slowly...the man comes out of the gas station first, hands up to show no weapons. The man is tall with black eyes and hair as well as a black beard. He had an eyepatch on his right eye and a brown hat on his head with a little white on it. He was followed by a girl holding a toddler. The girl was around Carl's age, maybe a little younger, with a hat on her head that had a D on it with a little bit of dark brown hair showing. She had brown eyes. The toddler had black hair and black skin...still sniffing a little.
"Thank you," The man says. "I'm Kenny, and this is Clementine and AJ."
"No, problem," Daryl says as he looks around. "We got a place. A community. A couple of them. You can come back and stay in one of them if you want."
"You sure?" Clementine asks Daryl, who nods.
"Yeah, you can stay at mine tonight, and tomorrow we'll take you around and see which one you like," Daryl explains to Clementine, who looks at Kenny and gives him a nod.
"We'd like that very much," Kenny replies. Daryl nods as he goes back towards the truck.
"Are those horses?" Clementine asks in mild shock.
"Yeah, we need them for a plow. Every community has them," Daryl says.
"How many communities are there?" Kenny asks.
"Six, but we are only showing you four," Daryl says. Kenny nods as they climb into the truck and leave.
Morgan's P.O.V
Morgan walks up to the radio and sits down. "Hello, Alexandria," Morgan says.
"Hey, Morgan. It's Rosita," Rosita responded.
"Hi, Dwight said you wanted to talk to me," Morgan says.
"I did, yeah," Rosita tells him. "I want you to help me."
"What can I help you with?" Morgan questions Rosita.
"Finding peace with all the s*** that has happened since we've gotten to Alexandria," Rosita tells him. "Since Negan has been let out, I keep dreaming of Abraham, and it won't stop. I figured this would be the best place to start."
"Can you come here and not kill Negan?" Morgan asks.
"I didn't try to kill him in Alexandria. Yeah, I can try," Rosita says.
"Okay, come here tomorrow morning, and we'll start," Morgan says.
"Thank you," Rosita says before she leaves the radio. Morgan leaves the room smiling as he hears a car outside. He walks outside and sees Madison walking away with Clementine, Kenny, and AJ. He walks up to Daryl.
"Who are they?" Morgan questions.
"Some people we helped," Daryl says. Morgan nods as he looks at them.
"You got the horses good job," Morgan says.
"John has to train people in Hilltop now," Daryl tells Morgan, who nods.
"Amanda wanted to talk to you," Morgan tells Daryl, who nods as he walks away.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl walked into his cabin after talking to Amanda after dinner. He sets his crossbow down and looks at Charlie and Daniel, who are playing chest on the table. "Hey," Daryl says.
"Hello," Daniel says. "I hope you don't mind. I wanted to show her how to play."
"I have no problem with it," Daryl tells the man. "Don't stay up too late," Daryl tells Charlie, who nods as he goes to his room.
Thanks for reading. So Clementine, Kenny, and AJ are now in the story, and I know they are not in the show's universe but figured to expand this universe. The next chapter will go in more with them, Morgan and Rosita, Amanda and her idea, and John at Hilltop, and maybe a talk between Morgan and Negan. That will be either the next chapter or the chapter after. As always, suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
