Chapter 30-Starting to make peace
Morgan's P.O.V
Morgan was awoken to the sound of someone knocking at his door. He sighs as he stands up and walks to the door. He pulls it open and looks at Rosita. "What time is it?" Morgan asks.
"I don't know. A little past 6:00," Rosita says.
"I meant like ten. Give me a moment," Morgan tells Rosita, who nods. Morgan gets his coat, book, and stick and walks outside.
"Where is he at?" Rosita asks. Morgan looks at her.
"Most likely sleeping like everybody else. Who's on watch?" Morgan questions.
"Laura and Troy," Rosita tells Morgan, who nods as they walk to the gate. Troy and Laura look at them.
"Good morning," Troy says with a grin.
"Shut up," Morgan grumbles as Laura pulls the gate open for them, and Morgan starts to walk towards the gate.
"Where are we going?" Rosita questions him. He ignored her, staring ahead as he thought I can't keep her in camp right now. I need to know she is serious. "Morgan!" Rosita says a little louder, breaking Morgan out of his thoughts.
"You'll see," Morgan speaks after another moment. Rosita nods as she continues to follow him. They walk quietly until they see a walker. Morgan grips his stick and stabs the end of it through the walker's eye. He pulls it out and pulls out a rag. He cleans the blood off as they continue to walk. They get to the lake as the sun touches it, and it makes a beautiful glow off the lake. "I always liked doing this with Daune when we could camp. I loved the sunrise," Morgan explains to Rosita, who nods.
"Why did you bring me here?" Rosita asks. Morgan pulls out his book and holds it out to her. He nods to the sand. "You want me to read this?"
"Yes," Morgan answers. Rosita frowns but grabs the book and sits down. Morgan sits down behind her.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl walks outside his room and sees Alicia sitting on the couch. "I thought you'd be sleeping," Daryl says.
"I want to come with you. I need out of here for a little bit, and we'll be moving from community to community, so I'll be safe," Alica says. "Please," She pleads. Daryl doesn't say anything for a few seconds, considering. The true saviors are dead, but they are still threats, and I don't know Clementine and Kenny at all. We haven't had any problems in weeks.
"Fine," Daryl says with a sigh after a couple of minutes of silence. Alicia nods as she leaves the house. Daryl follows her out. They walk up to the truck where Clementine, Kenny, and RJ already were. "We'll stop at Hilltop, then Alexandra, and finally Kingdom if you haven't decided by then. You got your things?" Daryl asks Clementine and Kenny, who nod.
"We saw your friend leave. John," Kenny says.
"Yeah, he's going to Hilltop," Daryl tells them. "Let's go," They climb in the car and leave.
Amanda's P.O.V
Amanda walks over to Shane as he walks to the big cabin. "Hey, Shane," Amanda greets the man who looks at her.
"Hey," Shane says back.
"So, I need to ask you a question," Amanda says to Shane, who nods. "I talked to Daryl and Rick about this, and we are having a group of three people in each community to help settle disputes," Amanda explains.
"A police force?" Shane questions.
"No, kind of. That's not the point. I am going to ask John when he gets back from Hilltop, but I wanted to ask you first if you want to help," Amanda tells him.
"I appreciate the thought, but I got things going on with Madison and Alicia as well as some other people. I'm not a cop anymore, Amanda. I'm going to say no," Shane says. Amanda nods. "Ask Dwight," Shane suggests.
"Dwight?" Amanda questions.
"Yeah, if anybody is going to be able to settle disputes with saviors, it will be Dwight," Shane explains to Amanda, who nods before she walks away.
John's P.O.V
John drives a car into Hilltop and stops it near Carl and Earl. John turns the car off, grabs his hat, and climbs out. "Got here early," Earl says.
"Figured I might as well have," John says. "Is Maggie awake?"
"I have no idea. Nobody has come out yet, so maybe not," Carl tells John, who nods with a frown. "How good are you?" John looks around and sees a metal cup beside Carl.
"Pick that up," John says. Carl looks at Earl, who nods. Carl slowly picks the cup up. John pulls out his revolver, and within two seconds, the cup layed on the ground. Carl smiles as he looks at it and picks it up.
"That's awesome," Carl says with a smile. "You have got to teach me how to do that."
"You got work to do," John tells Carl, who nods.
"Take a break today and join them if you want," Earl suggests. "We don't get much to do anyway," Carl smiles at the older man as Maggie walks outside. John looks at her.
"I'm assuming the gunshot was you," Maggie guesses.
"Indeed it was," John answers. "So, who am I teaching?"
"Follow me," Maggie tells John, who nods as he follows her. Carl smiles at Earl before he follows.
Morgan's P.O.V
Morgan was standing a little bit away from Rosita, doing his exercises. "I've been reading this book for hours," Rosita comments, making Morgan stop and look at her.
"Rosita, you told me you have been dreaming about Abraham, correct?" Morgan questions Rosita, who nods. "What are the dreams of..." He then asked gently "his death?"
"At the end, yeah," Rosita answers. "You know, when it all happened...at one point, it looked like Abraham was offering himself to Negan. I think he died thinking we were all going to be okay," Rosita's voice cracks a little. "But then Glenn died, Olivia, Eric, Spencer. All the people we lost during the war," A tear rolls down her cheek.
"You think you failed him," Morgan says.
"I wouldn't be here if it wasn't Abraham. I may be alive, but I wouldn't be here. I couldn't help in the end, and what he thought was wrong and people he cared about died," Rosita explains. Morgan nods...then abruptly stood up
"Come on," Morgan says.
"Where are we going?" Rosita questions as she stands up. She hands Morgan the book.
"Back to camp. I have an idea," Morgan tells Rosita, who nods as she follows Morgan.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl climbs out of the car at Hilltop and looks at the car John took as Alicia, Clementine, and Kenny get out with AJ. "I see you brought some friends," Beth says as he walks up to him. She wraps her arm around Daryl before she hugs Alicia. "How are you feeling?" Beth questions Alicia.
"Fine," Alicia says. She looked at the blond, confused, before she realized and looked at Daryl.
"Just so you know. Carol and John also know," Daryl informs his girlfriend.
"Got it," Alicia says. "Where's Maggie or Al?"
"You know. I saw them go upstairs about 15 minutes ago. You can go find them, but that is at your own risk," Beth tells them.
"Okay, where's Tara?" Daryl questions. Beth motions for them to follow her. They follow the blond to the graveyard where Tara was placing some flowers by Glenn and Abraham's grave with Enid. The two of them look up at them.
"Hey, you got new people," Tara says as she stands up straight, smiling at the two pleasantly "I'm Tara. This is Enid."
"I'm Kenny, that's Clementine, and this little guy is AJ," Kenny introduces them...
The girl with the small cap waved shyly, looking around.
"Are they staying here?" Enid questions Daryl.
"I'm showing them Hilltop, Alexandria, and Kingdom and seeing which one they like," Daryl explains to them.
"Well. We can give you a tour," Tara says. Daryl nods as Tara leads the three of them away.
"What are you two going to do?" Beth asks them.
"I'm going to go find Lilly," Alicia says before she walks away. Beth looks at Daryl.
"I don't know," Daryl tells Beth, who nods. "Where's Carl and John?"
"We set up a training area a little bit away from here. It will take them a little. Want to go see it?" Beth asks. Daryl nods as he follows Beth.
Morgan's POV
Morgan walks up to Eugene's cabin and knocks. A few moments later, Eugene opens the door. "Morgan," Eugene says before he looks at Rosita. "I was not aware you were here."
"Nobody was," Rosita tells him. "Why are we here?" She questions Morgan.
"Eugene, I have seen you messing with a map and marking things down. May I ask why?" Morgan questions Eugene, who nods.
"I have been pinpointing locations that I believed to have been used by the military before the fall and would be stocked with supplies that would benefit us in our quest to survive," Eugene explains to him.
"Would you mind if we see that map?" Morgan questions Eugene.
"One moment," Eugene says as he goes back inside.
"What is the point of this?" Rosita asks him.
"You said that what Abraham thought was wrong, and at the time, it was, but now we can fix it. We can get these supplies and help out everybody. Who knows, maybe someday people won't have to risk their lives on runs anymore," Morgan says. Rosita nods after a moment and follows Rosita inside. They walked inside and walked over to Eugene's table, where he had gotten out a map. He points to one not far from them.
"What's there?" Rosita questions.
"A camp," Eugene says.
"Why hasn't anybody cleared it?" Morgan asks him.
"I would say because our dead friends have decided to make it their home," Morgan says.
"We'll need a group then," Rosita says. Eugene nods. "We could hit it today."
"Yes, we could," Morgan says. "How many walkers do you think, Eugene?"
"My guess would be at least two dozen, maybe more," Eugene informs Morgan, who nods.
"Get Alden, Nick, Madison, Strand, Cole, and Lucy," Morgan says.
"We'll need two cars," Rosita says.
"We have 'em," Morgan says. Rosita nods as she leaves. Morgan grabs the map and follows her out of the house. "Thank you, Eugene," Morgan walks towards Shane. "Hey, I'm going on a run soon with Alden, Nick, Madison, Strand, Cole, Luciana, and Rosita."
"Okay," Shane says. "Why are you telling me?"
"Because someone needs to keep an eye on Negan," Morgan answers Shane, who sighs.
"I'll watch him. Keep your radio close just in case something happens," Shane tells Morgan, who nods as he walks. Shane sighs as he goes to find Negan, already dreading what that jackass was gonna say
Thanks for reading. The next chapter will go into Alexandria and the run and an idea I have for Shane that will involve Negan. As always, suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time
