Chapter 38-Getting ready for the babies
Two months later
Alicia's P.O.V
Alicia walks out of her cabin with a sigh. It has been two months since Maggie had her baby, and that was the last time she had left the campgrounds. Her stomach was visible by now as she walked down the steps. Negan looks at her as he walks past her with a crowbar. They had finished the trench the month before. "I can't believe Daryl let his baby Momma leave the cabin," Negan says with a grin.
"I'm glad he did. I'm about to tear his head off," Alicia says with a small smile.
"I don't blame him. Having a baby before all of this was scary. Now it is even more so," Negan explains to Alicia, who nods, agreeing with his logic. Everybody in the campgrounds, including Alden, had come around to Negan. Everybody may not trust him, but he was just another member of their community now.
"Have you seen my Mom?" Alicia questions Negan, who nods.
"Yeah, she's at her cabin," Negan says, thumbing over in that direction. Alicia nods as she walks towards the cabin. She opens her door and hears her Mom let out a frustrated groan.
"Are you okay?" Alicia asks as she shuts the door. Madison looks at her from the floor. She was trying to put a crib together.
"You know I did this twice for you and Nick. Steven was working, but this is bullshit," Madison says with a frown. Alicia chuckles as she sits down. "Don't laugh. I'm doing this for you and my grandchildren," Madison explains. "Have you and Daryl started talking about names?" Alicia nods.
"Yeah, he's picking the boys name, and I'm picking the girls," Alicia explains.
"You two got the perfect match. One boy and one girl and in one go. I had to do it twice," Madison mumbles.
"Well, if you and Shane ever plan on having kids. Try having sex in a prison watchtower," Alicia teases, having heard that story from Daryl, one of the rare times he was in a humorous mood.
"Do you have a name?" Madison asks her, trying to ignore her other comment.
"I got a middle name. I'm going to use Dad's name," Alicia answers. Madison nods with a smile.
"He would be honored," Madison says. "Why haven't you picked the first name?"
"I need to talk to someone first," Alicia explains.
"Who?" Madison questions.
"Daniel," Alicia answers, and Madison understands.
"Ofelia?" Madison asks Alicia softly, who nods.
"She was my friend, and at the beginning, she was the only one I had," Alicia explains.
"Well, go talk to him, and I will continue working with this devil device," Madison says. Alicia laughs as she leaves.
Kenny's P.O.V
Kenny drives a truck into Hilltop and turns it off. He climbs out as Lilly walks up to him. "What do you got today, Kenny?" Lilly asks.
"I heard you guys had some structural damage near the south wall. I stopped by the warehouse. I got you some more wood and metal. Should help you repair the wall," Kenny explains to Lilly, who nods.
"I'll get some people to unload it. Are you hungry?" Lilly asks Kenny, who nods. Kenny follows Lilly into Barrington house. She gets him a plate of food, and he sits down. "So, when was the last time you were at Alexandria?" Lilly questions Kenny as she sits down beside him.
"It's been about two weeks. After this, I was going to head back for a few days and see Clem and AJ," Kenny answers. Lilly nods as he eats. "How has Maggie been?"
"She's doing good. So is Hershel. I think they are both sleeping upstairs," Kenny nods as he sets his plate down. "I haven't seen Tara or Beth," Kenny comments.
"Yeah, they are hunting. Sometimes they stay out for the night. Sometimes they are back by dinner," Lilly explains.
"Are they together?" Kenny asks.
"Not that I know of," Lilly answers. "Come on. Let's go help them unload the supplies," Kenny nods as he follows her, laughing.
"You know, let me tell you about this other chick I knew named Lilly..."
Morgan's P.O.V
Morgan jabs his stick through the head of a walker. He moves it out and moves back as the walker falls to the ground. He looks at the group with him. John, Tobias, June, Nick, and Rosita were with him. John stabs another walker through the head as Nick kills the final one with his stick. "So, what are we looking for?" Morgan asks. They were in an old clinic.
"A little of everything, but we need birth control pills. I know Alexandria has plenty, but Carol said that Hilltop and Kingdom need some," June explains.
"Okay, John and Rosita with me. Tobias and Nick go with June," Morgan says. Everybody nods as they split up. Morgan pushes a door open with his stick and looks inside of the room. He walks inside and looks around. Rosita opens the door and smiles. "You think Alicia would like a breast pump?" Rosita asks.
"Wouldn't hurt," Morgan says as he opens another cabinet and looks at the baby formula. "Seems like this had a lot of baby supplies."
"You would think this place would have been picked over by now," John comments as he fills his bag.
"There were quite a few walkers. I'm not surprised. Most people avoid places with too many walkers," Morgan explains.
"Not us," Rosita says as she zips her bag.
"Yeah, not us," Morgan says. "But we have the supplies we need to clear places like this. Most people don't."
"Well, hopefully, once the babies are born, Daryl can go back to helping people like he planned," John says as they leave the room.
"Until then, we'll do it for him," Morgan says.
Alicia's P.O.V
Alicia knocks on Daniel's door, and the older man opens it. He smiles at her. "Come in," Daniel says. Alicia nods as she comes inside and sits down. "What do I owe the pleasure?" Daniel asks as she sits across from her.
"I have a question for you," Alicia says. "So, Daryl and I are picking names for the babies. I'm picking for the girl, and he is picking for the boy." Daniel nods.
"When Grizelda and I had Ofelia. We debated the name for months. You got lucky. Not some many problems," Daniel says with a sad smile as he remembers his dead daughter and wife.
"Ofelia is part of the reason I'm here," Alicia says. "I want to name the baby after her."
Daniel nods as tears form in his eyes. He smiles as he walks over to Alicia and hugs her. He lets her go and moves back. He wipes his arm. "She would be honored and very proud," Daniel says. Alicia smiles as she hugs him again.
Reilly's P.O.V
Reilly goes outside of the Sanctuary with Arat and looks at Justin, who was fighting with another savior named Luke. "Enough," Reilly exclaims as he goes down the stairs and pushes Justin off of Luke. Arat steps in front of Luke before he can go back to Justine. "What's the problem?" Reilly asks.
"Justin's being a prick. He won't listen to anything I'm telling him! I'm trying to fix the garden, and nothing is working, and he's standing behind me being a prick." Luke says.
"He threw the first punch," Justin says. "I was defending myself," Reilly looks at Luke.
"What's wrong with the garden?" Reilly asks.
"Nothing fucking grows at this factory. Negan was able to keep it going because of Alexandria, Hilltop, and Kingdom. Now the Negan is living a better life than us at the fucking campgrounds," Luke says in irritation.
Arat steps forward warning, causing Luke to back up, more than a bit intimidated now "Watch your damn mouth, he's gone, but you know damn well all of us wouldn't even be alive if it weren't for him."
Stepping between the two, Riley held his hands up in peace "Okay enough, Justin, you're on walker duty now. Luke keep trying, and I'll try and figure something out," Reilly says to the two men. Justin shakes his head as he walks away. Reilly goes back into the Sanctuary, scratching his jaw in worry.
Shane's P.O.V
Shane walks with Negan as they walk the trench, killing any walkers they see. Negan looks at Shane. "You excited for your grandkids to show up?" Negan asks Shane, who looks at him.
"They ain't my-" Shane starts to speak.
"Don't even start that shit, man," Negan says, interrupting him. "Yeah, it ain't by blood, but when those two grow up, they ain't going to be calling you Shane. They'll be calling you Grandpa. If I learned anything from you, sorry sacks of shit since getting out of that cell is that blood doesn't matter to you," Negan says. "You see Alicia as your daughter, right?" Shane nods. "She sees you as a father figure?"
"I think so," Shane answers.
"Good, so I ask again. Are you excited for your grandkids to show up?" Negan asks again. Shane smiles and nods.
"Yeah, I'm excited," Negan nods as they continue to walk. "I'll be the cool great uncle Negan," Shane chuckles.
"I swear if they call you that, let me know. I want to see the look on Daryl's face."
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl and Charlie were putting the second crib together when Alicia came back in. "You two are doing better than my Mom. I think she might burn the thing."
"You two. I've done most of the work," Charlie comments as she looks at the paper. Alicia looks at Daryl with a raised eyebrow.
"I spend most of my life in a cabin in the woods hunting for myself and living with an asshole of a father. I've helped where I can," Daryl says. Charlie looks at him and sticks her tongue out at him.
"Glad to see the teamwork," Alicia says as she sits down.
"Did you talk to Daniel?" Daryl asks.
"About what?" Charlie asks as she sets the paper down.
"A name for your sister," Alicia answers.
"What is it?" Charlie asks, her excitement visible.
"You'll have to wait," Daryl says. Charlie frowns.
"You two suck," Charlie says as she sits back down.
"He said yes," Alicia answers. "What about you, Mr. Dixon? Have you picked our son's name yet?"
"I got a first name. Working on a middle one," Daryl answers as he starts to help Charlie again. "Morgan should be back soon," Alicia nods as she goes to their room.
Night
Reilly's P.O.V
Reilly rubbed his eyes as he looked at a map. He stared at the locations he had mapped. He hears a knock on the door. "Come in," He says. The door opened, and Arat came in.
"You didn't eat," Arat says as she sets a plate down by him. In the last six months, the two saviors have come together and become co-leaders instead of just one of the leading. "What is this?"
"Locations, the saviors, could move to," Reilly says. "Luke's right. The only reason we were able to stay here so long was because of the other communities giving us supplies," Reilly admits. "If we don't want to split up, we have to find somewhere else to go."
"I agree. Have you found anywhere?" Arat asks, somewhat reluctant to do so. The Sanctuary had long been a home to the residents, but she had to admit in recent months the gardens were dying out.
"Sure, but I don't know if any of them are still standing," Reilly says. "We still have enough supplies to last us a while. We'll figure something out," Reilly sets his pen down and eats his food.
"See you tomorrow," Arat says. Reilly nods absently as she leaves, hunched over the table still staring at the maps...
The problem was that this was going to be a Massive undertaking and they'll need help...
He knew Rick would help, no question...
But would the others?
He wasn't afraid to say that the thought filled him with worry.
Thanks for reading. I think there will be one more chapter before we get into the bridge and Alicia gives birth. I had a lot of fun with this chapter. It was more lighthearted, and that was fun to write. As everybody knows, this week is Thanksgiving, and I won't be home and probably won't even have my computer with me. So there will be no upload on Friday. I'm going to be spending time with my family. So Happy Thanksgiving, and as always, suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
