Chapter 83-The first battle
Daryl's P.O.V
The night was silent, and the air was cold and tense. The only thing anybody heard was the sound of breathing around them as they all watched the woods. Daryl held his Ar in his arms, with Negan standing behind him, his crossbow slung over his shoulders casually. Daryl gripped his gun when they saw the shine of a flashlight in the woods. "Get behind the cars," Daryl hisses to the front line as they all slowly move behind the cars that they had put in front of Hilltop. It was only two minutes before the first explosion when off, and the fight began.
Bullets flew between Hilltop and the woods as the two communities fought each other. Daryl looks threw the window of a car...bendind back down as the window to the car was shot, and glass went onto the ground, causing him to curse. "So, what's the plan here, boss?" Negan asks him.
"We gotta keep them distracted so John and Dorie can flank them!" Daryl says over the gunfire as he shoots threw the window towards the woods. "Carl, radio to Eugene, tell him to blow up bomb three!" Daryl yells to the young leader of Alexandria, who nods. Another explosion goes off after a minute, and shouting could be heard from the woods. Daryl was about to move again when a rocket came from the woods and smacked into the walls of Hilltop. To their shock and a grenade went off around the cars.
Alicia's P.O.V
Alicia slowly pulled herself up and looked at the wall that once stood. Wood and metal were scattered around Hilltop, and a trailer was crushed from the wall coming down. Alicia grabbed her gun off the ground and helped Maggie up. "You okay?" Alicia asks her.
"No," Maggie grunted as she looked at her shoulder where a small piece of the metal was embedded. Alicia looks around and sees Earl nearby.
"Earl!" Alicia shouts. Earl looks at them and quickly runs over. "Get her inside."
"I can fight." Maggie protested.
"No, get inside," Alicia tells her firmly. Earl nods as he helps Maggie up, and they move towards Barrington house. Alicia looks at her right arm, which was cut from a piece of wood. Alicia moves away from the hole and goes over to Alden and Luciana.
"You okay?" Alden asks, seeing the cut on her arm with worry.
"I'm fine. It's just a scratch. What the fuck was that?" Alicia asks before she shoots towards the woods.
"A fucking RPG," Alden says. "Dorie and John have to be getting close."
Alden finishes his sentence as another explosion goes off and another piece of the wall goes down. "My Mom and Shane. Where are they?"
Alden points to the other side of the wall where Madison and Shane are. Alicia slowly moves through Hilltop until she gets to the hole in the wall. She creeps her head and moves back as a bullet hits a piece of the wood. She turns her head as Michonne lays her hand on her shoulder. "The cars are on fire."
"Shit," Alicia says. "Make sure everybody is prepared to move just in case," She tells Michonne, who nods as she moves away from Alicia, who moves toward Madison and Shane.
Negan's P.O.V
Flames light up the air around Negan from the burning cars, causing him to duck. Negan dragged Daryl behind one of the few cars that wasn't burning and pressed his back up against it. "How are you feeling there, boss?" Blood poured down Daryl's head from where he had been pushed back by the explosion and hit his head on the ground.
"Like shit, next stupid question." Daryl says as he holds his rifle. "You see, Carl, Daniel, or Jesus?"
"No. Been a little hard with all the smoke, flames, and bullets." Negan answers him looking through the fire with worry in his eyes, knowing Rick would have both their asses if anything happened to his son. "John and Dorie need to hurry their asses up. These motherfuckers have an RPG." Negan says.
"We did at one point, too." Daryl says as he shoots a man coming out of the woods. "We gotta get back into Hilltop. There ain't enough of us to hold the front line," Daryl says.
"I'll cover you." Negan tells him.
"I ain't leaving, not without the others!" Daryl tells him.
"Daryl, you have to survive this. Your kids and wife need you. I will find the others and get them in. Just get your stubbornredneck ass in there." Negan growls. Daryl stares defiantly at Negan for a moment and then nods in resignation "Run for the back. Go through the passage," Negan tells Daryl. "Now," Negan says before he raises up and shoots towards the woods as Daryl runs behind the walls. Negan gets down and reloads. "Okay, Carl, where the hell are you?" Negan moves past the cars. He steps over bodies of both kinds of defenders until he sees Carl crouched down in front of a destroyed vehicle, a hand on his side, the other clutching the Colt his father always had. Negan stops beside him. "You okay?"
"Yeah, a bullet grazed my side." Carl tells him.
"Jesus, Daniel?"
"Alive, they're in Hilltop. Jesus got hit in the shoulder. Daniel got him in. Daryl?"
"On his way back, couldn't leave you out here, kid," Negan says with a smirk.
Carl stared then nodded gratefully, leaning over and shooting over the vehicle.
"So, how do you plan on us getting back in?" Carl then asks him.
"How many more bombs Eugene got?" Negan asks after a moment's thought.
"Four."
"Which ones are closest to those assholes?"
"Two and four," Carl says.
"Tell them to blow it up." Negan tells Carl, who nods as he grabs the radio.
"Eugene blow up two and four,"
"Run like hell when those go off." Negan says. After several moments, the ground shook with the explosions as the fires came up from the tree line. Soon Negan and Carl stand up and run towards Hilltop under fire. Turning, Carl shot two men that were coming up as Negan ran, then turning to provide Carl fire and the two switching until, they get through the hole in the wall as the shots come towards Hilltop again. Negan breathes heavily as Alicia runs up to them.
"You guys okay?" Alicia asks.
"Yeah, Jesus?"
"Inside, June is with him. Where's Daryl?" Alicia asks.
"He's coming. He went around the back," Alicia nods. "We gotta keep fighting. John and Dorie have to be close."
John's P.O.V
John and Dorie moved through the forest slowly. Clementine, Dwight, Amanda, Laura, Troy, and Tripp moved behind them with the rest of the second line. They stop when they hear shouting not that far ahead of them. "You have the flashbangs?" Dorie asks Troy, who nods as he hands them to him. John grabs a grenade and looks at his father, who nods. John throws the grenade, and Dorie throws the stun grenades, soon enough go off and screams were heard as the group raises their guns and starts to shoot into the woods. They move behind trees, Dorie throwing another flashbang, as the bullets starts to fly towards them.
Seeing the diversion the Hilltop defenders layed down covering fire in a pincer attack, starting to engulf the New Frontier soldiers.
Badger's P.O.V
Jesse stood by Badger behind a thick tree as bullets came from two directions. "We have to pull back!" Jesse yelled over the gunfire.
"Yeah, we do." Badger says calmly. "Jesse." Badger says, making the man look at him. Badger raises his gun and shoots Jesse in the stomach. Jesse falls to the ground, and Badger raises his gun to shoot him in the head, but is hit in the hand by a bullet from Hilltop. Badger growls and kicks Jesse in the face, soon looking around and sees that nobody saw him. "Pull back! They got Jesse! Pull back!" Badger shouts to the men, who slowly start to move away from the edge of the woods and back into the forest. Badger follows them with a large smirk on his face.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl slowly pushed the hatch open and climbed into Hilltop. He shut the hatch and turned around as he walked out from in between the trailer. He looked at Alicia as she ran up to him and hugged him. She let him go after a moment and kissed him, seeing the gash on his head. "You okay?"
"Yeah, you?" Daryl asks her. She nods as Daryl looks around Hilltop. Multiple pieces of the walls were scattered around the walls, and bodies littered the ground. "Start getting everybody together and get whatever supplies we can scavenge. We're moving to Alexandria," Daryl tells Alicia, who nods as she walks away. Daryl moves down to Negan, who was standing by Carl as he was getting patched. He then turned and grinned, seeing who was walking by
"Glad to see you made it back okay, boss," Negan says.
"Thanks for talking some sense into me, asshole," Daryl says before he walks towards Barrington house.
Shane's P.O.V
The sun was starting to rise in the sky as Shane, Madison, and a dozen people from Hilltop walked through the bodies collecting their weapons. "We got a live one." Strand called over. Shane walked over to Strand and looked down at the groaning Jesse.
"What do you think?" Strand asks, already raising his gun.
But Shane pushed it down. "Take him back, have June patch him up. We'll see what we can get out of him," Shane tells Strand, who nods resigned as he motions two men over who pick Jesse up and help for Hilltop. "Let's make sure these assholes don't turn."
Al's P.O.V
Al sat beside Maggie holding her hand. "How are you feeling?" Al then asks her.
"My shoulder hurts like hell; besides that could be better," Maggie says.
"I can ask June for some pain killers," Al tells her.
"No, save them for the people who actually need them," Maggie says. "We'll be moving to Alexandria pretty soon. Can you do me a favor and grab Glenn's hat and my Dad's bible out of our room?" Maggie asks.
"Yeah. I'll be right back," Al says. Al leaves Maggie and goes up the stairs. She goes into their room and goes over to Maggie's dresser. She opens the top drawer and grabs the bible and hat out of it. She puts it in a bag and walks back down the stairs as two men bring Jesse in.
"Who is this?" June asks, looking over from checking on Maggie.
"It's one of them. Shane wants to get information out of him." The man tells her. June nods as she bends down beside him. Al sets the bag down by Maggie.
"Al, can you come help me?" June asks her.
"Yeah," Al says as she walks over to June. She stops when she sees Jesse's face. June looks at her.
"Al?" June says. "Al, what's wrong?"
"That's my brother."
Badger's P.O.V
Badger looked at the remainder of his group that was left. They hadn't lost as many people as the people in Hilltop, thank god for the RPG they had stashed for an emergency, but they still lost enough men to do some damage. "Where's Jesse?" Ava asks.
"They got him. They killed him. Badger says as he looks at everybody. "Jesse was trying to keep you safe, keep your families safe from those animals. We did damage to them today. We took away one of their homes. But the fight is far from over, but they will pay for every one of us they kill in blood, and I promise you when all of this is over. Richmond will be standing! And your families will be safe!" A cheer is heard from the army as Badger smiles.
Thanks for reading. The first battle has concluded, and Al has found someone she never thought she would see again. Badger has taken control of the Army, and Hilltop is in bad condition.
