ELITE FORCE: Season 2 Episode 21

"The World's Second"

Disasters in Centium City are on the rise, and the Elite Force have one suspect: Raven. With the clock ticking to their deadline, will they track down the final shapeshifter? And will their combined powers be enough to fight a force that keeps on growing? Chase and Oliver must channel their inner detective when mysterious spark marks show up at every mission site, and Skylar, Kaz and Bree are called to a save where no one seems to need saving at all...

FADE IN.

SCENE ONE.
EXT. CENTIUM CITY - DOCKS - DAY.
(A crowd of soaked people stand on the docks, the remnants of a collapsed, wooden pier floating in the choppy water below. A large ship sits docked, burn marks scorching the side of the hull. The Elite Force are all in their mission suits: OLIVER and KAZ are weaving through the crowds, passing out water bottles and checking for injuries, whilst SKYLAR talks off to the side with the CAPTAIN of the ship, a frazzled middle-aged man. CHASE stands at the edge of the docks, watching the hull of the ship for someone. He looks up suddenly when BREE appears on the deck of the ship, dusting her hands off).

BREE
(Calling down)
Okay, that's it, there's no more people on board.

CHASE
That's good - come down before there's another explosion.

BREE
(Smirking, rolling her eyes)
Yes, Mom.

(CHASE outstretches an arm and uses his molecular kinesis. A plank of driftwood from the fallen dock lifts from the water, aligning with the deck of the ship. He nods towards BREE, who takes the signal and leaps like a cat onto the plank. Whilst keeping BREE suspended in the air on the planks, he lifts another piece of fallen wood up into the air. She leaps across to the next one like a stepping stone).

BREE
I can't believe this pier would just collapse.

(She continues hopping across more planks that CHASE lifts for her).

CHASE
Well, they're ancient, probably rotted through. It's hardly unexpected. Having said that… (BREE leaps across to another) The city should really be doing more regular checks.

BREE
Do you think there's anyone at fault, though? It seemed like the engine in that ship just went like a bomb (She leaps across onto another plank). That's hardly the city's fault.

CHASE
(Shrugs, concentrating on the planks)
I suppose that's the police's problem. We're heroes, we're not detectives.

(BREE takes a final leap from the plank onto the docks, and lands firmly on two feet next to CHASE. They fist bump and she dusts herself down).

BREE
I think I'd make a great detective - I look amazing in sunglasses and leather jackets.

(CHASE gives her a tired look, huffing a laugh as SKYLAR shakes the CAPTAIN's hand and walks back over to her team).

SKYLAR
The Captain says he has no idea what happened, but the important thing is that no one on the crew was hurt.

(KAZ and OLIVER jog back over from the crowd of civilians, a mix of the crew and general public).

OLIVER
Everyone who was in the water is cleared for hypothermia.

CHASE
(Nodding)
Alright, then let's do what we do best.

KAZ
Leave the clean up to the city?

CHASE
That too… but I was more talking about tackling the increasingly looming threat of Raven still out there.

SKYLAR
Chase is right. We're nearing the 20 days to go mark and we've still no sign of her.

KAZ
(Sighing)
Aw, man. Can't we go home first? I'm exhausted. That's the twelfth mission since we were given the thirty day deadline! How are we meant to track her down when everything in Centium City is going so wrong?

BREE
We have to keep trying. I'm not letting the Elite Force die because of mine and Chase's stupid mistake.

CHASE
Yeah, Mr Davenport's counting on us.

KAZ
Alright then, well can the ones among us who don't have crippling issues about disappointing their fathers go home and eat lunch?

OLIVER
(Proudly)
Yeah, not to brag, but I haven't had a father in seven years.

(He immediately looks crestfallen, SKYLAR patting his shoulder. A beat of silence).

CHASE
(Awkwardly)
Alrighty then… ignoring that, we need a plan. Searching hasn't worked, so I think we need to have an uninterrupted meeting where we -

(Sirens blare in the distance, cutting him off).

CHASE
I said, we need an uninterrupted meeting where -

(BREE coughs, looking at him guiltily).

BREE
Sorry.

CHASE
(Huffing)
An uninterrupted - (CHASE's phone begins to ring. He groans). Oh, for - come on! (CHASE looks at his phone) Ugh, it's Adam. One second. (He takes the call, stepping away) Adam, for the last time, just because it looks edible, doesn't mean it is!

(CHASE disappears to take the call, and BREE turns to KAZ).

BREE
You do realise that if the Elite Force dies, you and I will go back to living in separate states, right?

(KAZ blinks, realising).

KAZ
And suddenly, I too have issues about disappointing your father.

BREE
(Smugly)
That's what I thought.

SKYLAR
Look at those sparks.

BREE
(Grinning, leaning into KAZ).
I know, we're adorable.

SKYLAR
No, you two are nauseating. (KAZ and BREE look offended). I mean the actual sparks. Look over there. They look like burn marks from something.

(They look where SKYLAR is pointing, to the edge of the dock near a boat. Charred, jagged burn marks appear on the edge of the stone).

OLIVER
That looks like it came from an electrical spark - it must have been from the engine.

KAZ
(Casually)
Nah, that kind of trawler ship is usually powered by a diesel. It's over 20 feet long so needs stronger propulsion than anything electrical would give.

(BREE, SKYLAR and OLIVER look surprised at KAZ's intelligence and knowledge. He looks at them, confused).

KAZ
What? My Dad worked on boats a lot. I learnt to walk on the deck of a ship - that's why I fall over a lot on dry land.

(CHASE comes back from the phone call, hanging up).

CHASE
(Deeply sighing)
So... Adam had forgotten how many students he had - apparently counting is hard for the guy.

KAZ
(Nodding sagely)
Man, I get that.

CHASE
(Pinching the bridge of his nose)
He thought he'd lost one. Apparently he did a headcount of ten yesterday, but only nine today, panicked, and wanted to double check how many of Rodissius' kids we'd sent to him. I asked if he had counted himself by mistake. He counted again, and what do you know: nine. (Sighs) Honestly. (He shakes his head). But anyway, as I was saying, we need to take this break as an opportunity to have an uninterrupted meeting about how to find -

(Everyone's phones suddenly blare with the sound of a mission alert).

CHASE
(Snapping)
Seriously! What is going on today?!

SKYLAR
(Mockingly supportive)
Don't worry, Chase. I'm sure you'll get to finish a sentence at some point.

(SKYLAR leads the group in running off into the city, everyone tired but focused on their next job).

ROLL TITLES.

SCENE TWO.
INT. CITY APARTMENT BUILDING - HALLWAY OUTSIDE ELEVATOR - DAY.
(The door to the elevator sits open, but there is no elevator inside the shaft. The cable sparks as the actual elevator box itself dangles precariously three floors below. In the hallway, The Elite Force all stand looking down the shaft, then lean back to strategise).

BREE
The building superintendent says the power to the elevator spontaneously shut off.

CHASE
It's dangling three levels below us on the twentieth floor - this is our closest vantage point, but that cable's going to go any second.

OLIVER
I could lift it.

SKYLAR
I'll help you.

(OLIVER and SKYLAR start forwards, but CHASE holds up his hands).

CHASE
Wait. It's the only cable left. If we're not careful, it could snap and send the people trapped inside freefalling.

KAZ
What about pushing it up?

CHASE
(Dismissively)
Don't be ridiculous, there's nothing to push!

KAZ
Uh… (Points to himself) Flying, (Points to SKYLAR and OLIVER) Flying with superstrength, (Points to CHASE) Molecular kinesis, (Points to BREE) Um… I don't think you can help here - but you're pretty.

BREE
(Softening, giggling)
Aw, thanks.

KAZ
Can't Skylar, Oliver and I get in from the basement shaft and push it up? Then Bree can pull the people to safety and Chase can hold it up with your molecular kinesis whilst we fly out again. (There is stunned silence; KAZ looks around) What? Does that not work?

CHASE
(Surprised)
No, it, uh… works pretty well.

SKYLAR
(Stunned)
That's the second smart thing you've said this morning - are you feeling well, Kaz? I'm genuinely concerned.

SCENE THREE.
INT. CITY APARTMENT BUILDING - HALLWAY OUTSIDE ELEVATOR - DAY.
(CHASE stands, his arms outstretched, holding the elevator shaft half-way up, with the floor of the elevator mid-way up the doors. SKYLAR, KAZ, and OLIVER fly out from underneath the elevator, landing back in the hallway, and BREE helps the last civilian out to safety. They regroup).

BREE
Alright, that's everyone - again.

KAZ
Nice one, team! Zero casualties. Man, I should start suggesting plans more often. Right, Chase?

(KAZ claps CHASE on the back, making CHASE jump. CHASE loses his focus and drops the elevator box. It free-falls down the shaft and smashes. CHASE, furious, turns to KAZ; KAZ grins sheepishly).

KAZ
Well, still, zero casualties for living things!

SKYLAR
Let's just count it as a win and move on.

OLIVER
Yeah, if the last couple days are anything to go by, we're going to get another mission alert any minute now. I know it's been busy, but twice in one morning? Isn't that a little weird.

BREE
I agree with Oliver, I've got a really weird feeling. The last time it was this busy…

CHASE
(Grimly)
Rodissius came out of the woodwork.

(There is a brief pause as everyone thinks).

SKYLAR
We can't make assumptions. They're two isolated incidents - there's nothing to link them together. Let's just keep our heads down and figure it out. The sooner we catch Raven, the better.

(SKYLAR uses her superstrength to manually close the elevator doors. However, when she does, the same jagged black scorch marks are burnt into the doors, as if something sparked into it).

BREE
Wait - look at that?

CHASE
What is that?

BREE
We saw them at the docks whilst you were on the phone.

CHASE
They look like electrical burns. Like something from a spark.

BREE
That's what I said.

OLIVER
Skylar, you're looking for something connecting the pier collapse with the elevator? There's your clue.

(BREE claps her hands together).

BREE
Ooh! A clue! Now we're detectives.

SKYLAR
Come on, both sites had sparks - we literally saw it sparking in the shaft. It could be from anything.

CHASE
Skylar's right, logically the two incidents don't fit.

(Another mission alert suddenly blares on all five of their phones. KAZ sighs viscerally).

KAZ
Well, okay, but if this next one has the same spark marks you're totally buying lunch. I still haven't eaten and I'm getting hangry!

OLIVER
That's true - we've got about half an hour before he gets unbearable.

CHASE
(Tiredly)
Let's just go.

SCENE FOUR.
EXT. CENTIUM CITY CENTRE - BUSY CROSS JUNCTION - DAY.
(OLIVER, CHASE, SKYLAR, BREE and KAZ rush to the scene, stopping in shock on the sidewalk at the carnage in front of them).

BREE
Oh my gosh…

(On the cross junction, cars are completely interwoven. Some crashed, some stopped, some abandoned. The traffic lights all flash intermittently between green, amber and red, some all at once, some two at a time, some flickering. There are a set of traffic lights at each lane on each side of the road, making sixteen altogether. It's absolute chaos).

OLIVER
So… the traffic lights think they're disco lights?

SKYLAR
Bree and I can do a quick assessment for injuries.

OLIVER
I'll use my superstrength to lift the cars that have crashed.

(OLIVER, SKYLAR and BREE motion to set off, but CHASE is staring intently at the traffic lights, the blue twinkle in his bionic eye clicking into life).

CHASE
Guys, those lights aren't flickering randomly. It's a pattern.

(BREE doubles back).

BREE
What kind of pattern?

CHASE
It's… (he quietens) morse code. It's a message. (he watches the lights) Dot, dash, dot… dot, dash, rest… triple, dot, dash… (he turns to his team) Guys, it's saying "Raven". Over and over again.

OLIVER
What? Are you sure?

CHASE
Completely.

(SKYLAR pales and she sees something on the road).

SKYLAR
Uh… guys?

(She points, and she sees more scorch marks on the road).

BREE
Spark marks.

OLIVER
They are connected to the other rescues.

CHASE
Yeah… and more importantly, they're connected to Raven. Whoever made them wants us to find her.

SCENE FIVE.
EXT. CENTIUM CITY CENTRE - CROSS JUNCTION - DAY.
(A few hours have passed. CHASE closes the wiring panel for the traffic lights, which are now working normally again. SKYLAR and BREE speed back to the sidewalk from different directions, KAZ finishes providing medical attention to a civilian, and OLIVER pushes the last abandoned car out of the way of traffic).

CHASE
There - the traffic lights should be working again now.

SKYLAR
And the flow of traffic is back to normal.

KAZ
Awesome, now can we please get something to eat -

CHASE
Let's talk about these spark marks and those lights flashing Raven's name.

(KAZ groans in hungry frustration).

CHASE
I think we should take a closer look at those marks. It's safe to say they're connected to Raven somehow, seeing them at every mission today can't be a coincidence, and if she's out there causing all this, she's going to keep doing it.

(Everyone's phones blare yet again: another mission alert. Everyone exchanges a grim glance).

BREE
I knew I had a bad feeling about today.

SKYLAR
The alert's showing a fire in a warehouse downtown.

CHASE
I should stay here and analyse those spark marks.

OLIVER
I'll stay with you - I love a good analysis. (Quietly, to CHASE) Plus I want to get out of Kaz's eye-line when he's hungry.

(CHASE nods in agreement).

SKYLAR
The rest of us should get going - fires get big quickly, we have to hurry.

BREE
(Rolling her eyes)
Man, no fair, you guys get to play detective. That's so cool.

CHASE
(Deadpan)
Do you want to sit here all afternoon and run samples of concrete with me in silence?

BREE
(Glaring)
You know that I don't.

CHASE
(Smirking)
Then why are you complaining?

BREE
Ugh, whatever. Enjoy your concrete, we'll go do something fun.

SKYLAR
(Confused)
"Something fun" being... put ourselves in danger?

BREE
Yeah, obviously.

KAZ
(Grinning at BREE)
And that is why she's my favourite.

(KAZ, SKYLAR and BREE all speed off in the direction of the warehouse, leaving CHASE and OLIVER to their analysis).

SCENE SIX.
INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE - EMPTY ROOM - DAY.
(BREE, SKYLAR, and KAZ enter the warehouse, their footsteps echoing. They look around, confused).

KAZ
Am I missing something? Where's the fire?

SKYLAR
Everyone must have gotten out.

KAZ
We're sure this is the right place?

SKYLAR
Yes, Kaz, because we didn't let you read the map this time.

KAZ
(Defensively)
Okay, first of all that was one time. And yes, it may have added two hours onto the journey but did we or did we not love those waffle fries at the diner we found? (Whispering, to himself, pained) Man, I'm so hungry right now.

(BREE paces forwards, inspecting the dusty, boarded up windows).

BREE
I don't know, there's something not right about this.

KAZ
Maybe the fire just burnt out.

BREE
Right, but, even if it did… look at this wood boarding up the windows. Any fire would have burnt right through that.

SKYLAR
(Grimly)
So… no fire.

BREE
(Shaking her head)
No fire.

(A pause. KAZ opens his mouth to speak).

KAZ
I know I'm asking the obvious here... but if there's no fire, then who reported it?

(BREE and SKYLAR exchange an unsure look, looking cautiously around the empty warehouse).

BREE
Someone who wanted us here.

SCENE SEVEN.
EXT. CENTIUM CITY CENTRE - CROSS JUNCTION - DAY.
(CHASE and OLIVER have rolled out a selection of tools from his mission bag on the sidewalk. They crouch beside the spark marks on the concrete, OLIVER now sweeping a sample of dust into a beaker, whilst CHASE analyses the marks with his bionic eye).

OLIVER
So do you think these marks came directly from Raven?

CHASE
It's highly likely. They're electrical, so my guess is that she has some new grade weapon or something.

OLIVER
Her superpowers wouldn't be able to recreate electricity even with shapeshifting, so it has to be.

(CHASE suddenly sits upright, staring in confusion at the spark marks, his bionic analysis concluding).

CHASE
Uh… scratch that.

OLIVER
Scratch what? You got an itch, buddy?

CHASE
What? No! (Rolls his eyes) My analysis is showing these were made by someone bionic - the sparks - see here?

OLIVER
Yeah?

CHASE
They're not from a weapon, they're from a chip. I saw something similar once at the Academy, my brother Leo wasn't regulating his bionics properly and started sleepwalking. He didn't have a chip, just a bionic arm, but this is unmistakably bionic.

OLIVER
But Raven's not bionic.

(CHASE is already pulling out his phone).

CHASE
No, she isn't. But if someone bionic is trying to warn us about Raven then I know just the person to tell us who.

(He goes through his phone and clicks on ADAM's name, pressing "Video Chat". It rings for a few beats before ADAM's face fills the screen. He is dressed in his white mentor uniform).

ADAM
(Seriously)
Adam's phone, Adam speaking.

CHASE
(Deadpan)
Adam, I can see you.

ADAM
Who's this?

CHASE
(Deeply sighing)
Your brother.

ADAM
Leo!

CHASE
The one whose face is on your screen.

ADAM
(Grinning)
Nah, I'm just messing with you. What's up, Chasey?

CHASE
Can you log into the mission tracker for all the bionic teams and check to see who was in Centium City this morning?

ADAM
Uh… sure, one second.

(ADAM looks off to the side at his computer, typing into his system).

ADAM
It's not showing that anyone was there today. Bob drops by occasionally to see Bree through the window but other than that nope. And definitely not today.

(CHASE and OLIVER, confused, and a little concerned at the Bob statement, exchange glances).

CHASE
Are you sure?

ADAM
Yeah, there's nothing there. I know I'm not good at counting but I know when there's little red flashing dots on a map and when there isn't. (A pause) Oh! By the way, no need to worry, little brother - I did another headcount, and I got all nine shapeshifters again. I was sure there was another one yesterday, but I must have counted twice. Either way, if there was another one, she's not here anymore.

OLIVER
Wait, wait… Adam, "she"?

ADAM
Yeah.

(OLIVER and CHASE's expressions drop).

OLIVER
What did she look like? This extra student this morning?

ADAM
Uh… teenager, dark hair, name began with R.

CHASE
(Sarcastically)
Very helpful, thank you.

OLIVER
(Urgently)
And she just disappeared?

ADAM
I don't know, I probably just miscounted. (He chuckles) As long as I end up with the same number I started with I'm winning, right?

CHASE
Adam, we've got to go.

ADAM
Alright, well say hi to Br -

(CHASE hangs up the phone swiftly, pocketing it and immediately forgetting his brother).

CHASE
Oliver, are you thinking what I'm thinking?

OLIVER
That it was kind of rude to just hang up on your brother like that?

CHASE
What? No! (Disgusted) My brother and I aren't "polite" to each other. No. (He takes a breath). Adam didn't miscount. There was a tenth student yesterday, but she disappeared… right in time to come to Centium City for this morning.

OLIVER
Raven.

CHASE
Yeah.

(A pause as they both think).

OLIVER
But you said these marks were bionic, and Roman, Riker and their siblings aren't bionic. (Rambling) So unless she broke into the tech whilst she was there and gave herself a chip, which would be impossible. (He chuckles, but sees CHASE's pale face). Chase… (more urgently) Tell me that Raven breaking into your family's tech and giving herself bionics is impossible!

(CHASE, quietly, slowly, shakes his head).

CHASE
Everything's protected with Mr Davenport's retina scans…

OLIVER
(Panicking)
Are you telling me your big idea for security was something a shapeshifter could easily replicate, when we are literally in the middle of a war with shapeshifters?

CHASE
(Equally freaked out)
Well, when you say it like that it seems like a disaster!

OLIVER
This is a disaster!

CHASE
I know what it is!

OLIVER
(Running a hand through his hair)
We have to warn Skylar, Kaz and Bree!

(The boys race off, hearts pounding and looking terrified, towards the direction of the mission).

SCENE NINE.
INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE - EMPTY ROOM - DAY.
(BREE, SKYLAR, and KAZ have finished their recon and regroup, all confused).

KAZ
I've got nothing, you?

BREE
Nope. (She sighs) Let's just go, find the others. There's clearly nothing here for us.

(As they step towards the exit, footsteps begin to echo from outside the room. BREE pales, SKYLAR readies for a fight, and KAZ looks suspiciously in the direction of the noise).

KAZ
You guys heard that too, right?

(SKYLAR and BREE nod).

SKYLAR
Who's there? Show yourse -

(An electric ball of energy fires into view from seemingly nowhere. All three are knocked off their feet, completely caught off guard. They slam into walls and slump onto the ground; the screen goes completely white from the explosion, blocking sight of KAZ, BREE and SKYLAR as they lie lifelessly…).

MIDWAY BREAK.

SCENE TEN.
INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE - EMPTY ROOM - DAY.
(A pitchy whine. Focus on BREE, as she lies crumpled, unconscious, slumped against the wall of the warehouse).

CHASE'S VOICE
(Echoey, distant)
Bree!

(BREE's eyes twitch as she slowly gains consciousness again. An arm reaches out to shake her shoulders, and we see it revealed to be CHASE as he drops down beside her).

CHASE
(A little louder as BREE hears it)
Bree - Bree, come on. You with me?

(BREE opens her eyes and blinks up at CHASE, confused).

BREE
(Slurred)
Hey, you kinda look like my brother.

CHASE
(Sighs)
Oh, boy. Alright, come on, up and at 'em.

BREE
No, not Adam. Chasey. (She rolls over) M'kay, I'm going back sleepy time now. Bye-bye.

(CHASE rolls his eyes and yanks BREE to her feet. As soon as she is standing upright, she comes to, steadying herself on her feet. She takes a deep inhale, rubbing her eyes and looking around).

BREE
Wait, what happened?

CHASE
Are you okay?

BREE
I… I think so. (She manages to pull away from CHASE, standing by herself, still a little confused). The mission was a bust, and then I heard footsteps, and.. (She snaps back to reality, realising, and turns around frantically). Skylar? Kaz!

(Panning to the rest of the warehouse, SKYLAR and KAZ are slowly coming to themselves, pushing themselves up onto their elbows and groaning. OLIVER sprints in, having followed CHASE, and makes a beeline for SKYLAR).

OLIVER
Oh my gosh, are you sure you're okay? I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to you!

SKYLAR
Aw, Oliver, I'm -

(OLIVER runs directly past SKYLAR and skids to a halt next to KAZ, helping him slowly to his feet).

KAZ
I'm fine, just a little banged up.

SKYLAR
(Unimpressed)
I'm fine too, thanks for asking.

OLIVER
What? You look fine - he's a little pale.

BREE
Are you guys okay?

(SKYLAR stands up, brushing himself down).

SKYLAR
Yeah, luckily.

KAZ
Me too.

BREE
What was that?

CHASE
We need to get out of here, now. We don't know who's listening. Let's get back to Mission Command and regroup.

SCENE TWELVE.
INT. MISSION COMMAND - DAY.
(BREE, SKYLAR and KAZ sit on stools at the cyberdesk in a row, all open-mouthed in shock. KAZ has an icepack to his forehead, and they all stare blankly, stunned, at OLIVER and CHASE, stood in front of them).

BREE, SKYLAR, KAZ
(All at once)
What?!

SKYLAR
Bionics? You think Raven has bionics?

OLIVER
It's our working theory.

BREE
(Frantically shaking her head)
No. No, no way, because I'm the only bionic-superhuman hybrid. Me. I'm the world's first.

CHASE
And now we think there's another.

KAZ
But that's impossible! Even if she did get her hands on a bionic chip at the academy, we would have seen her in that warehouse!

CHASE
Not necessarily. She's still a shapeshifter, remember? And we have no idea what her bionics actually are. Plus, if she's got a chip, she's highly unstable.

BREE
(Realising)
Oh my gosh, no capsule. Like how Leo was at first.

CHASE
Exactly. Dangerous, volatile, and she'll have absolutely no control over it. That's why we keep seeing these spark marks at all our missions. She's trying to lure us out with these disasters, but her chip is glitching.

KAZ
Then what are we waiting for? If she's glitching, then she's weak. We need to pounce whilst we have the advantage!

SKYLAR
Kaz, she's twice as powerful, even with the glitch.

CHASE
Skylar's right, and we've had so many more missions already because of her upgrade. We still don't know where she is.

(As if on cue, a mission alert blares out from the cyberdesk, the blue LED lights of mission command flashing red).

KAZ
(Demanding)
Is that her again?

(CHASE frantically checks the console).

CHASE
I don't know - it's a cyber attack at Peridot Bank. Their headquarters is in the city centre – it could be a coincidence, but we have to go. There's billions of dollars on the line and they're running out of time!

OLIVER
(Groaning)
Oh my gosh, can Raven shapeshift into a coffee or something? That's our fifth mission today!

KAZ
And for the record I still haven't -

BREE
Oh for the love of - there's a granola bar in my pocket. Take it!

(KAZ looks at BREE with awe, and then horror).

KAZ
(Betrayed)
Were you withholding this from me this entire time?

SKYLAR
(Yelling)
Guys! Mission!

KAZ
(Holding his hands up in mock surrender)
I'll eat on the road, jeez.

(KAZ, CHASE, SKYLAR, BREE & OLIVER all jog tiredly but purposely out of the tunnels towards the next mission site).

SCENE THIRTEEN.
INT. PERIDOT BANK – SERVER ROOM – DAY.
(CHASE, OLIVER and BREE are each hunched over a set of blaring screens in a large server room. Monitors and servers line the wall, and they focus intently on the coding in front of them. CHASE presses enter on a furious line of code, but is met with a red screen and a loud, harsh error buzz).

CHASE
(Angrily)
This doesn't make any sense! I'm the smartest guy in the world, I should be able to out-hack some lowlifes.

BREE
Try getting through a mission without saying you're the smartest guy in the world – you might have more time.

OLIVER
This doesn't seem like Raven's MO – she's been causing physical chaos, destroying things up until now. Plus there aren't any spark marks.

(SKYLAR and KAZ run into the room, closing the door behind them, urgency on their faces).

KAZ
Vaults are still full, no signs of forced entry. All the security footage is clear.

SKYLAR
And no spark marks anywhere.

BREE
So this really is a random attack?

(CHASE suddenly lets out a scream. The keyboard he's working on has sparked straight into his hand. He clutches it, doubling over).

BREE
Chase! What happened?

CHASE
My hand – the freaking thing just exploded on me. (He holds his hand close to it, staring in slightly impressed, slightly afraid shock at the monitors). This is really advanced tech.

OLIVER
Here, let me ice your hand, it's blistering.

CHASE
(Pulling away)
There's no time! We've got ninety seconds before these hackers have access to Peridot's entire database – Davenport Industries holds accounts here, thousands of livelihoods are at stake! If we don't do something now, we're never going to get to keep the Elite Force! The board will sink us for sure!

(SKYLAR steps forwards to the keyboard).

SKYLAR
It's okay, you step back. Bree and I can use our superspeed to type for all of us.

BREE
Tell us the code – we got this.

CHASE
Here….

(CHASE presses his free hand to his temple as OLIVER inspects CHASE's injured hand and ices it with his cryoblast. CHASE activates his abilities and uses his bionic eye to project a holographic screen in front of SKYLAR and BREE. The holographic screen has a list of advanced code).

SKYLAR & BREE
(Nodding)
Got it.

KAZ
(Reading a timer)
Eighty seconds!

(BREE and SKYLAR, side-by-side, begin typing… but it seems painfully slow. Both girls are moving in normal speed).

CHASE
What are you doing?! Go faster!

BREE
(Confused)
I… can't.

SKYLAR
(Sharing a look with BREE, flexing her hands)
Me neither.

KAZ
Seventy seconds!

OLIVER
What? What do you mean you "can't"?

BREE
(Wide-eyed)
I mean my superspeed isn't working! I can't activate it!

CHASE
(Thinking)
It's possible something's messing with your bionic interface.

SKYLAR
But I can't use mine either! I can't even feel it! It's like… (quietly, devastated) like my powers are gone again.

KAZ
Guys, we're coming up to fifty seconds!

(CHASE pulls his hand away from OLIVER's cryoblast, which has kept the blistering at bay somewhat).

CHASE
Alright, alright, one problem at a time! (To SKYLAR and BREE, as supportively as he can through his stress) Look, I don't know why you can't use your superspeed, but we'll figure something out, okay? For now we need to stop these hackers. If we can't code, we'll have to destroy the mainframe.

KAZ
Fry the circuits?

CHASE
Yes, but don't use your fire powers, Kaz, please, the last thing we need is an electrical fire. Oliver, we have to time this with the hackers entering their final code, but then we'll combine your cryoblast with my forcefield and hope that it generates enough kinetic energy to destroy the mainframe and erase the coding. Got it?

OLIVER
Got it. (To SKYLAR) Do either of you have access to your blast powers?

SKYLAR
(Tears in her eyes, panicked)
No…

(BREE shakes her head).

KAZ
Guys, you have ten seconds!

CHASE
We'll have to make do, Oliver. Ready?

OLIVER
(Laser focused)
Ready.

(CHASE waves his hands into a sphere, locking in and creating a forcefield as OLIVER generates a sparking and spitting ball of ice in his hands).

KAZ
Five seconds!

(They exchange a glance and merge the powers into one growing, spinning ball of energy. It pulses blue, growing in strength and takes a toll on CHASE and OLIVER as they strain).

KAZ
Four…

CHASE
Three…

OLIVER
Two…

CHASE & OLIVER
Now!

(The boys hurl the merge of powers into the mainframe. Everyone ducks, sparks fly, the lights go out temporarily but flicker back on. Everything is quiet, the blaring has quietened, the monitors dead. There's a silence. Everyone looks at each other, and when CHASE and OLIVER catch their breaths after a second, they rush forwards to check the data. CHASE takes the tablet from KAZ; everyone holds their breath).

CHASE
(Heaving a sigh of relief)
We did it. They lost access.

(Relieved celebration breaks out amongst the group, but CHASE, OLIVER and KAZ can't help but stare their sympathy at BREE and SKYLAR, who are both worried for themselves and clearly trying not to cry).

SCENE FOURTEEN.
EXT. CENTIUM CITY PARK – DAY.
(Everyone is exhausted. The team have found a secluded section of park, BREE and KAZ sitting on a wooden bench, SKYLAR sitting on the armrest of the bench and OLIVER with a hand on her shoulder, comforting her. KAZ is eating a large gyros, savouring every bite).

BREE
Are you seriously eating at a time like this?

KAZ
There's no point in us going home – knowing today we'll be called back out again before we get our shoes off. I'm just saving time! (Offering her the wrap) You want a bite?

(BREE nods with a sigh, and he holds it up as she sadly bites a piece off).

BREE
Thanks, Kaz. (She leans against his shoulder as he puts an arm around her).

OLIVER
I'm sure it was just a fluke, something to do with the server room at the bank.

(SKYLAR gets up, pacing).

SKYLAR
Then why are we still not able to do anything?

(No one can answer. CHASE walks back over to the bench, a phone to his ear).

CHASE
(Talking through the phone)
Alright, thank you. … Yeah, I'll let them know. Thanks. (CHASE hangs up the phone). That was the cops – they found the hackers from the IP address I gave them, and get this: they told them that they were hired for the job… by someone named Raven.

KAZ
(Furious)
That sneaky little… she played us!

SKYLAR
And nearly ruined thousands of livelihoods in the process.

OLIVER
(Gravely)
Thank goodness we stopped it in time.

SKYLAR
(Glumly)
Yeah, with half the team defective.

OLIVER
Skylar, you're not defective! I fell in love with you when you had no powers, remember?

SKYLAR
(Whining)
I know, but I'm so much cooler with them! I can't do another two years, Oliver! I can't!

BREE
(Panicking again)
Two years?! Chase only lost his bionics for a couple of months!

CHASE
Woah, woah, everyone take a breath! We don't know what's happened – let me scan you.

(CHASE puts a finger to his temple again, and perspective shifts to a bionic scanning of everything in CHASE's view: a data scan pans over the four bodies in his direct line: BREE, SKYLAR, KAZ and OLIVER. SKYLAR lights up with a yellow fog, and BREE's has a mix of a similar fog, except in her, it's purple, with an equal amount of the same but in red).

CHASE
Wait… that's weird.

OLIVER
What is?

(The scan extends to OLIVER and KAZ. Oliver is completely clean, but KAZ has the same purple fog across his body in the scan. CHASE ends the scan).

CHASE
Kaz, use your powers.

KAZ
Why?

CHASE
Did you use them in that last mission?

KAZ
No – I haven't since before the abandoned warehouse where Skylar, Bree and I got knocked out.

BREE
(Realising)
Oh my god, you don't think…?

(KAZ jumps up as if to fly, but barely gets an inch off the ground, gravity pulling him down again. Panicking, he does it again with the same result).

KAZ
No, no, no, no! I'm a normo again? No! What's happening to me? This is a disaster! Chase, do something!

CHASE
You three all have something dampening your powers. They're not gone like my bionics were, and they're not dormant like Skylar's were when they got taken the first time. They're just blocked.

OLIVER
Blocked? Blocked how?

CHASE
Their individual weaknesses… there are trace amounts of coal in Skylar's system, and in Kaz's and Bree's there's copper. There's also a VPN somehow been installed into Bree's chip to stop her bionics – this wasn't random, this was individually targeted. It had to have been when they were knocked out in the warehouse.

KAZ
(Stunned)
Well, she clearly did her research.

SKYLAR
(Furious, determined)
Raven's going down.

BREE
So her big plan was to make herself powerful, and disarm us in the process?

(CHASE nods).

CHASE
I'm sure we can correct it, but I'd need to do some tests, and I'd need time.

SKYLAR
Time we don't have! She's still out there, and the longer she's out there, the more chance people's lives will be ruined.

BREE
And the more dangerous she is – she's given herself bionics, she's going to be near unstoppable.

KAZ
(Angrily)
Yeah, and I'm not going to be split up from everyone and have the one good thing I've made of my life ruined because we didn't catch her in time. We're still an Elite Force, and I say we fight.

OLIVER
But only Chase and I actually have any powers at all. We benched Chase when he lost his powers as a precaution, remember?

SKYLAR
We can't afford to do that now! We have twenty days, Oliver, and there's no way you and Chase are going to beat Raven alone. You need the numbers.

KAZ
Besides, she's glitching, right? If her chip's glitching, that makes her slightly weaker.

(CHASE suddenly blinks, realising something. He opens his phone, with a sudden lead).

CHASE
Kaz, that's it! Her chip!

KAZ
(Confused)
What? What did I do? (Hopefully) Something smart again?

CHASE
(With eureka)
Her chip may give her more abilities, but it's also a computer. And it has a built in GPS! If I run the serial number of the stolen tech through the database… cross reference that with the academy map… then I can – (he cuts himself off) Got her!

(He turns his phone around, showing a blinking dot, labelled as a string of numbers and letters).

CHASE
She's in the tunnels.

BREE
(Eyes widening)
She must be headed for Mission Command.

SKYLAR
(Assuredly)
Whatever happens - we've got this.

(The team nods, sure, determined, but races off to the tunnels, KAZ regretfully throwing his gyros in the trash).

SCENE FIFTEEN.
INT. UNDERGROUND TUNNELS – DAY.
(There are sounds of laboured breathing. A light flickers. There is a spark mark on the ground, etched into the dirt. Out of frame we hear footsteps walking away. A battle has been fought. As we pan up from the spark mark, we see collapsed stone, discarded weapons, and then feet. The feet pan up to become CHASE, lying, unconscious, on the ground. There is a burn mark in his mission suit. Next to him, KAZ, groaning, pushing to sit himself up as he comes back to consciousness. KAZ makes eye contact with OLIVER, who coughs, and BREE and SKYLAR lie still, their suits torn and their faces pale. SKYLAR is missing a shoe, and some of BREE's hair is singed from a spark mark).

(In the distance, a figure walks away, unscathed, a spark jumping from the back of her neck and landing again on the stone. RAVEN laughs, and it echoes through the dark tunnels).

(OLIVER closes his eyes a moment, recovering, and KAZ blinks, steadying himself).

OLIVER
(Weakly)
We're going to need a bigger Force.

KAZ
(Shaking his head)
I'm going to need a bigger lunch.

(And both boys fall unconscious again).
