Sunday, 7th August 2022 – Part Two

Jamie heard the front door open and the voices of Nigel and some other workers floating up the stairs and frowned. He stretched and climbed out of bed, running through his normal morning routine of stretching every muscle before he got moving. He opened a bottle of water and drank half the bottle before screwing the lid back on and dressing. He went downstairs and said hello to everyone before heading into the backyard where the portaloo was located. The day after he'd moved in, a full portable bathroom had arrived, but the original loo remained. He went back into the house when he was done and made himself a protein shake.

"Weren't expecting you all to be here on a Saturday," Jamie said.

"Roy's paying extra to get the main bedroom and bathroom along with the kitchen functional."

Jamie smiled; of course he was. "Since Monday?"

He received a nod from Nigel.

"Would I be in your way if I headed out to the front garden, I want to get started on clearing it out. Need something to do with me hands; miss playing FIFA."

"You play FIFA?" John asked.

Jamie nodded. "Yeah, it's fun, not as easy as actually playin' but it's good."

"Your game went well yesterday," John said. "Excellent goal in the first half."

"Sam set it up beautifully," Jamie agreed.

"You won't be in our way," Nigel told him. "Rest of the guys will be here in about half an hour."

Jamie nodded. "Anyone want breakfast? I'm going to order something in."

John looked at Nigel who smiled back. "You aren't ever going to hear us say no."

"Okay, usual orders?"

They all nodded, Jamie pulled out his phone and put through the order before going back up to his room to grab the garden tub, gloves, and kneeling mat. He'd start with weeding and then go through the garden and see what was going on with the plants.

Later, when Roy was talking to Nigel, Jamie called his mum.

"Hello, baby," his mother answered.

"Mummy, Roy's going to sell Platypus Green when he's finished with the renovation."

Georgie made a noise but before she could say anything Jamie felt anger in his gut.

"I'm going to fucking buy it; he might be a twat, but I love this house and what this house is going to be."

"That's a great idea…you won't be sad to not share it with him?"

"He don't want me like that," Jamie told her. "But when this ends, I'm still going to have-"

"Jamie?" Roy knocked on the door.

"Gotta go, Mummy."

"I love you."

"Love you too."
